When "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" first hit AMC, my mom watched it before I did. At the time, I asked her how the crossbow-wielding fan favorite character managed to get from the East coast of America to France while living in a zombie-filled apocalyptic wasteland. "Some bad guys got him," she answered simply. On paper, it's a laughable explanation for a sudden, drastic change of scenery over a decade into a franchise that's typically only moved its characters around in ways that make sense. After I caught up with the show, though, it became clear that she was right: Daryl's big move boils down to the introduction of new villains whose misdeeds just so happen to take place in an area adjacent to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Status effects can be a major nuisance in Marvel Rivals. While most deal little to no damage, they leave your character uncontrollable and open to follow-up attacks. It is important to know what your enemy is capable of and how to avoid or counteract such abilities. In mirror matches, it can be extremely handy to use your own status effects first to stop the enemy in their tracks. However, it can also be important to not needlessly use a negative effect and save it for a big push or defense.
One important aspect is to also assess the team composition of the enemy and your allies in Marvel Rivals. A negative status effect isn’t as much of an issue if no one can properly utilize it. In most cases, these effects are used by Strategists to escape or Vanguards to approach. If there aren’t enough Duelists to add further damage,...

“Her center-parted, ash-blonde hair flows just past her shoulders, framing her piercing blue eyes that seem to follow your every move.”
The doll is expected to ship by June 2025 — just in time for M3GAN’s return in M3GAN 2.0 on June 27. The sequel will be followed by a spinoff, SOULM8TE, due out on January 2, 2026.

Elsa Bloodstone is known in the Marvel Universe as the Worlds Greatest Monster Hunter, however, despite her profession and renowned skills, she has never been as hateful towards Marvels monsters as one may think at least, until now. Lately, the famed monster hunter has suddenly begun to change her tune, going against a key character trait, and leaving fans to figure out why.
Blood Hunters #2 contains the story "Once More Into the Darkness, Part 2" - written by Erica Schultz, with art by Bernard Chang - which follows the all-woman vampire-hunting team known as the Blood Hunters. While the teams main goal is to continue cleaning out the forces of Varnaes vampire uprising, the majority of the super-heroic group are determined to save each willing vampire, not destroy them.

The career of Ian McKellan has often been filtered through his fantastical performances. The stage legend rose to incredible heights in British films until his roles in The Lord of the Rings and X-Men made him a household name. The Critic looks to cash in on some of the goodwill of McKellan’s earlier performances. In the same vein as Mr. Holmes and Gods & Monsters, McKellan once again shines as a man wrestling with age. Unfortunately, The Critic proves exceptionally thin outside of his performance.
The Critic – The Plot
Set in 1934 London, theater critic Jimmy Erskine (McKellan) feels unstoppable. However, when the ownership of the paper turns to David Brooke (Mark Strong), for the first time in years Erskine could be out of a job. His writing conflicts with the owner’s personal feelings towards actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton). Additionally, Erskine’s status as a gay man in 1930s...

War Machine enlists Marvel villains for a unique team-up, arming them with Stark tech to take down a billionaire villain and his Stark Sentinels. Invincible Iron Man #19 showcases a Rhodey-centric twist on the Armor Wars concept, exploring themes of redemption. By taking influence for its Armor Wars adaptation, the MCU has the potential to bring back old foes with Iron Man-quality upgrades.
The MCU is currently building to an Armor Wars movie, but with James Rhodes' War Machine in the central role (played by Don Cheadle.) Robert Downey Jr's exit from the Marvel movies makes Armor Wars a major question mark, however the ongoing Invincible Iron Man comics just showed exactly how the movies can put a Rhodey-centric twist on this iconic story.

In Invincible Iron Man #19, War Machine assembles a new Dark Avengers team, featuring a group of villains seeking redemption by fighting alongside Iron Man against a greater threat. This Dark Avengers team, or a similar roster, would be perfect for the MCU, offering an opportunity to spotlight familiar villains in a new way, while also introducing several new ones to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The First Omen releases in theaters on April 5th, 2024.
I don’t know to what extent The Omen (1976) is considered a classic, but the truth is that it was one of the most profitable films of its respective year, it has one of the most memorable scores of that decade – so much so that it even won an Oscar, something extremely rare considering the genre – and, of course, it spawned several sequels and even a remake over all these years. The First Omen is the sixth installment of the franchise and, as the title indicates, it’s a prequel to the original movie. It’s also the directorial debut of Arkasha Stevenson who also co-writes the screenplay along with Tim Smith and Keith Tomas (Firestarter).

Rejoice exhibition, because some wide releases are keeping their dates on the theatrical film schedule next year, despite it being wrecked by the impact of the actors strike. Disney had April 5 on hold and that’s now being designated to 20th Century Studios’ psychological thriller The First Omen, the prequel to the classic 1976 horror film.
The original movie, a hit in its day, grossed more than $60 million at the domestic box office (unadjusted for inflation) and starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Harvey Stephens, follows an American ambassador who believes his 5-year-old son is the Antichrist.

Despite his attempt at humor, Matsson's tweet shows his sinister motive to take down Living+ and make sure his deal goes through. The tweet highlights Shiv and Matsson's evolving partnership, as she convinces him to remove the tweet, suggesting a more equitable dynamic between them.
Lukas Matsson's tweet, "Doderick macht frei", causes a lot of controversy in Succession season 4, episode 6, "Living+". Although this storyline isn't introduced until the very end of the episode, it is a signal that Kendall and Roman's plans to destabilize Mattson are actually working, and the untouchable industry titan may in fact be worried about the brothers and their motives. And while Matsson comes out ahead of all the Succession characters in the series finale, "Living+" sees him sweating for the first time.

Mantis' portrayal in the MCU drew criticism from her co-creator, Steve Englehart, who felt that the character was significantly different from the original comic version. While Mantis' alien origins and some superhuman abilities in the MCU make it challenging to fully align with her comic counterpart, her solo journey opens up opportunities to integrate comic storylines and develop her character further.
After the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel Studios can fix the Guardian of the Galaxy that disappointed her own creator. Pom Klementieff joined the MCU in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, introduced as Ego the Living Planet's aide prior to joining the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Since her debut, Mantis...

Sky and AMC have unveiled several first look images for the upcoming historical psychodrama series, “Mary & George,” starring Oscar and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”), alongside Nicholas Galitzine (“Cinderella”) and Tony Curran (“Mayflies”).
“Mary & George” is inspired by the true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. Through scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. All this at a time when England’s place on the world stage was under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters were taking to the streets to denounce the King.

You could call the 40 executives on THR‘s inaugural International Women in Entertainment — Film list “the survivors.” As seismic disruptions rocked the indie world, from Covid shutdowns to the decimation of the special cinema market, these women have found a way to secure the money and the partners to keep making the stories they care about — often told by filmmakers from ignored or underrepresented groups — and get them out to the audiences that love them, worldwide. In a business that lionizes ego, these bosses — some who run pan-national mini-studios, others who oversee boutique operations with a handful of employees — have made an art out of collaboration, understanding that only by pooling their resources, by co-producing, co-financing or distributing one another’s movies, and by mentoring and encouraging young (often female) filmmakers, can the polyglot world of international indie cinema survive.

Brendan Fraser won best actor at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday night, thanking his The Whale director Darren Aronofsky for throwing him “a creative lifeline.”
“So this is what the multiverse looks like!” Fraser said when he got to the stage to accept his award. “I’m grateful to Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale. … It couldn’t be done without my cast. The multiverse film Everything Everywhere All At Once won best cast, best actress, best-supporting actor and best supporting actress at the 29th Annual SAG Awards on Sunday.
The film’s record-breaking four actors included victories for Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan, who became the first Asian actor to win in the Supporting Actor category.
James Hong, who plays lead actress Yeoh’s father in the movie, gave a speech for their best motion picture cast win.
The 94-year-old actor said that his first film was made 70 years ago. “Back in those days, [Asian roles] were played by [white] guys with their eyes taped because producers said that Asians were not good enough and they were not ‘box office,'” Hong stated. “But look at us now!”

For much of this year’s awards conversation, The Banshees Of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once have dominated in the major categories – but at the 2023 BAFTAs_ that cleaned up. Edward Berger’s film bagged seven awards on the night including Best Film – building up momentum throughout the show as it won multiple technical categories and major gongs over the course of the ceremony.
“For a German-language film, we’ve been blessed with so many nominations, and winning this is just incredible,” said producer Malte Grunert on stage while picking up Best Film. The film’s big wins also came freighted with the relevancy of its World War I story. Upon winning Adapted Screenplay, writer-director Berger noted that in five days time it will be a year since war began in Ukraine, and stated that: “There are no heroes in any war.”

The Best Actor award at the 2023 Oscars has been a close race between the five nominees, with industry praise and notable wins throughout the awards season helping to predict who will take home the Academy Award. Following Will Smith’s Best Actor win for King Richard at the 2022 Oscars, this year’s five nominees are Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Austin Butler for Elvis, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Bill Nighy for Living, and Paul Mescal for Aftersun. The 2023 Best Actor category didn’t come with any huge surprises, as it’s filled with nominees who would each be incredibly deserving winners.
Interestingly, all five men are first-time nominees in the Oscars’ Best Actor category, though they bring very different backstories, career lengths, and triumphs to their campaigns. While this context will undoubtedly come into play when the Academy decides the winner, it’s also important to...

Since making his screen acting debut on “The Cosby Show” at age 21, Adam Sandler has built a reputation as a timelessly popular comedic performer with such resume highlights as “Happy Gilmore,” “50 First Dates,” and “Grown Ups,” not to mention his successful five-season stint on “Saturday Night Live.” He has also continually proven his dramatic chops over the past two decades as the star of “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Reign Over Me,” and “Uncut Gems,” the last of which brought him the most positive notices of his career just three years ago. Now, he is in the running for his first Screen Actors Guild Award based on his work in the sports drama film “Hustle.”

After a career that’s spanned over 30 years, Brendan Fraser has finally scored his first individual nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of Charlie, an immensely obese online teacher in Darren Aronofsky’s film “The Whale.” While the Best Actor nomination may be his first individual one, it’s not his first time at the SAG Awards. 17 years ago, he won the Best Cast in a Motion Picture prize for being part of the ensemble of “Crash,” which would later claim the Oscar for Best Picture.
Like Fraser, all of his fellow nominees in the lead actor category are celebrating their first individual SAG nomination: Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Bill Nighy (“Living”) and Adam Sandler (“Hustle”). A quarter century and more than 50 film and TV appearances into his acting career, Colin Farrell has finally landed both his first individual and ensemble Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. This dual recognition comes for his lead performance in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which marks his third film collaboration with writer-director Martin McDonagh, following 2008’s “In Bruges” and 2012’s “Seven Psychopaths.” If he succeeds on his solo bid, he will be the first Irish actor to ever win this or any individual SAG Award.

Bill Nighy gives the performance of his career in Living as a man facing impending death with the knowledge that he’s never truly lived. His work is so good that, on its own, it’s enough to justify remaking a classic. The fact that Oliver Hermanus’ resulting film isn’t too bad itself is its own sort of miracle.

Please Note: This forecast, assembled by The Hollywood Reporter’s executive editor of awards, Scott Feinberg, reflects his best attempt to predict the behavior of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, not his personal preferences. He arrives at these standings by drawing upon consultations with voters and industry insiders, analysis of marketing and awards campaigns, results of awards ceremonies that precede the Oscars and the history of the Oscars ceremony itself. There will be regular updates to reflect new developments.

The Screen Actors Guild has announced the nominations for its 29th annual awards.
Honouring both film and TV, the awards are voted on by the Hollywood actors’ guild SAG-AFTRA.
This year’s ceremony will be live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Sunday 26 February, beginning at 8pm Est.
The move comes after the SAG Awards lost their longtime broadcast home on TNT and TBS. On Wednesday (11 January), they announced a new multiyear partnership with Netflix to stream the ceremony.
The SAG Awards have long been considered one of the most reliable Oscar predictors. Typically, if a film ensemble isn’t among the SAG Awards nominees, it’s unlikely to win Best Picture at the March Academy Awards.
