It's been an up-and-down couple of weeks for Netflix shows. We've seen some big renewals, including The Perfect Couple, Beauty in Black, Xo, Kitty, and Running Point. But, the biggest news was the shocking cancellation of The Recruit starring Noah Centineo.

We knew The Recruit might be in trouble way back at the end of 2024 when Netflix confirmed the show's second season would premiere one week after The Night Agent season 2. Things looked good for The Recruit out of the gate, but Netflix made the disappointing decision to cancel the show after two seasons. Oscar winner Kathy Bates, who is experiencing a late career resurgence thanks to a critically acclaimed turn on the CBS network drama Matlock, took the spin in the spotlight inside a Beverly Wilshire ballroom on Friday afternoon to accept yet another award in her storied career. This one is called Showperson of the Year and it was placed in her hands during the 62nd annual Icg Publicists Awards.

Following an enthusiastic standing ovation, Bates, 76, immediately borrowed a quote from Colin Farrell’s recent SAG Awards speech during which he said, “What we do is unquantifiable; it’s playtime.” While Bates was referring to the profession of acting, she might as well have been talking about publicists. Their jobs are often unquantifiable simply due to the fact that the profession is so wide-ranging, demanding and (as most would say) overwhelming and almost never done.

Keke Palmer insists she had no idea that the vintage Chanel dress she wore to the SAG Awards on Sunday was once worn by her “Scream Queens” co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.

“I literally found out after it came up online,” Palmer told me Wednesday night at Vanity Fair and Instagram’s Vanities party at Bar Marmont in West Hollywood. “I had no idea. I just loved the dress. I just thought it was stunning.”

In May 2022, exactly a month after the first season of Heartstopper premiered on Netflix, the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama received a rare two-season renewal by the streamer. Almost five months after Season 3, the last of the two installments under that deal, dropped on Oct. 3, there is still no word from Netflix on the future of Heartstopper as another half-hour series, No Good Deed, also awaits a renewal decision two and a half months after its Netflix debut.

The streamer’s semi-annual What We Watched viewership data report released today provides more context to the series’ performance beyond Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankers that may be factoring into the renewal conversations.

Season 3 of Heartstopper amassed 10.9M views from its Oct. 3 release until the end of 2024 to rank #130 among all of Netflix’s programs from June to December last year, according to the report. The show spent two weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10, peaking at #4, vs.

The 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards — the top awards event for the independent film and television community — were handed out on Saturday from the beach in Santa Monica, Calif.

The ceremony, hosted by Saturday Night Live vet Aidy Bryant for the second year in the row, was streamed live on the IMDb and Film Independent YouTube channels at 5 pm Et, and across other social platforms.

It looks like one of Disney+/Marvel's bigger TV shows may get a follow-up after all!

The MCU has had its ups and downs as of late. Captain America: Brave New World may have had a great opening weekend but poor reviews and word of mouth may hold it back. At least in television, the MCU is going strong.

That included Agatha All Along, which was not only a hit with viewers but critical raves, too. It was a follow-up to WandaVision, the first Disney+ Marvel show, and a showcase for the scene-stealing witch Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn. 

The series followed Agatha regaining her memories and going a journey for power alongside a pack of witches and a mysterious man named Teen (Joe Locke). From there, fans were treated to a series of music, twists and amazing set pieces. 

The show seemed to be a one-and-done limited series.

Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum gives fansa promising update for the future of Agatha All Along.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Winderbaum, Marvel's head of streaming, television, and animation, was asked about how the studio considered projects in terms of producing them as limited over linear series. When referencing Agatha All Along in this context specifically, Winderbaum noted, "I think it's 'linear series potential.' A show like Agatha, to me, is concept based." Winderbaum added. "Yes, a second season for sure is something that we would want to do, but let's not rush it. Let's get the right idea and then make it."

With Daredevil: Born Again set to debut on Disney+ soon, all eyes are on MarvelTelevision, specifically on what the future holds and if previously established series will return. Many of Marvel's Disney+ series were designed as miniseries, drawing criticism from fans who thought the shows felt more like movies awkwardly edited into six parts than episodic television. It also meant the fates of characters like She-Hulk and Moon Knight were left up in the air, as there was no clear indication of when fans would see them again. That said, it sounds like two Disney+ series might be returning for Season 2: Agatha All Along and Hawkeye.

If “Agatha All Along” moving out of the Limited Series category for awards season gave you some hope for a second season, one Marvel TV head is here to give you even more. According to Brad Winderbaum, Marvel “for sure” would want another season — at some point.

Back in 2023, the exec noted that Marvel was revamping its TV structure, adding in 2024 that “we are thinking about television really more like traditional television.” That means multiple seasons. And, according to Winderbaum, “Agatha All Along” certainly lends itself to that.

“A show like ‘Agatha,’ to me, is concept-based,” he said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Yes, a second season for sure is something that we would want to do, but let’s not rush it. Let’s get the right idea and then make it.”

Since WandaVision aired in 2021, Marvel Studios has produced no less than 11 original TV series for Disney+, and while some have been hits, there's a sense that it's all a bit too much. Bob Iger, the CEO of Marvel's parent company Disney, admitted that they had "diluted" the audience's attention with so much content, hinting that they'd be more selective in the future.

The future is here. Deadline reports that Marvel has paused development on three shows: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. It doesn't mean that these shows will never see the light of day, but as Deadline puts it, the company has "shifted its priorities at the moment."

Kit Connor’s Nick and Joe Locke’s Charlie love story is based on a graphic novel series of five volumes, with Oseman writing a final volume to conclude the series.

The third season of the Netflix series took elements from the third volume, but the streamer has not officially commissioned a fourth season yet, something Oseman is working on.

Edward Berger, hot from his double-whammy Best Film and Outstanding British Film wins for Conclave at the Ee BAFTA Film Awards, wanted to stop by the Searchlight after-party at Soho House’s Greek Street to laud Rising Star winner David Jonsson.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of star-power. It's true; all the big stars find their way there eventually. Look no further than the recent Captain America: Brave New World, which has brought Harrison Ford into the MCU franchise and will reportedly bring Liv Tyler back after nearly two decades. The Multiverse Saga has seen the additions of some more big names, including Olivia Colman, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfield, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, and so many more. And with Robert Downey Jr. set to return to the franchise in a brand new role, the star-power is clearly still alive and well in the MCU.

Agatha All Along made some major advancements in LGBTQ representation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) up to fulfill his comic book destiny as the iconic superhero Wiccan and introducing the delightfully twisted relationship between lead character Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and Rio Vidal/Death (Aubrey Plaza). The latter dynamic became particularly popular with fans due to the vibrant chemistry between Hahn and Plaza, earning the ship name Agathario, and creator and showrunner Jac Schaeffer recently reignited interest in the unique pairing.

Ruaridh Mollica had a recurring role on the show, playing a character named Jaz Cox. Marvel released a new animated video celebrating the Young Avengers' 20th anniversary, with the sentient Tva symbol (voiced again by Tara Strong) serving as narrator as she recaps the first comic's issue and team debut. Created in the wake of Avengers Disassembled, this original team consisted of Wiccan, Patriot, Hulkling, and Iron Lad, though Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang would later join their team as brand new heroes. The group's actions put them on the radar of J. Jonah Jameson, who recruits Jessica Jones to investigate them and who, in turn, partners up with Iron Man and Captain America to halt the heroes' unsupervised actions. However, a confrontation with the classic Avengers leads to Iron Lad unveiling his true identity: Nathaniel Richards, a future version of Avengers villain Kang the Conqueror's younger self.

Marvel Studios took us all on a trip down, down, down the Witches' Road with Agatha All Along. The Disney Plus series is a spinoff to the original Marvel Cinematic Universe streaming show WandaVision, with Kathryn Hahn returning to play the titular role of covenless witch Agatha Harkness. The character was a breakout in WandaVision, with Hahn's performance earning her an Emmy nomination (and turning a lesser-known Marvel Comics character into a global phenomenon) so it was a necessity to bring her back at some point.

Fans will soon have the opportunity to look at the art of the series behind the magical Marvel series Agatha All Along. Marvel Television's Agatha All Along: The Art Of The Series is a deluxe artbook from Marvel's Art Of series that is now available for pre-order. The artbook by Jess Harrold will be released on April 29. The deluxe artbook's cover features The Witches' Road engulfed in a purple haze the same color as Agatha's magic. Ruaridh Mollica has joined the cast of Disney+’s new Marvel series Vision, and there’s a big fan theory about the role that he’ll play!

The 25-year-old actor – who has previously appeared in projects such as The Franchise, Sebastian and Witness Number 3 – will appear in the WandaVision spinoff series alongside the likes of Paul Bettany, who plays the titular character.

Nominees Mikey Madison, David Jonsson, Marisa Abela, and Nabhaan Rizwan celebrated their nominations at the Vanity Fair Ee BAFTA 2025 Rising Star Party on Wednesday (February 5) at Pavyllon in London, England.

The event featured a who’s who of British talent, including many fan fave actors and plenty of newcomers who probably have a shot at a nomination in the future.

The winner of the Ee Rising Star Award will be announced at the BAFTAs on February 16. Also nominated in the category is Unstoppable actor Jharrel Jerome.

Mikey stars in the new movie Anora and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. David had his breakout in the sci-fi thriller film Alien: Romulus this past year. Marisa stars in the HBO series Industry and led the film Back to Black in 2024.

Marvel Studios' planned Vision series has added another new cast member, and there's already speculation that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have found its Tommy Maximoff, aka Speed.

Deadline reports that The Franchise and Too Rough actor Ruaridh Mollica has joined the WandaVision spin-off as a character named "Tucker."

Though this Tucker might well be a completely different character, previous rumors have suggested that the Vision series will introduce Billy Maximoff's (Joe Locke) brother, who the newly powered-up Wiccan set off to locate alongside "Ghost Agatha" in the season finale of Agatha All Along.

At 25, Mollica is a little older than Locke (21), but he could convincingly play a teenager.

For years, Antony Starr has drawn high praise for his chilling performance as Homelander in the hit superhero satire TV series The Boys. Now, he's managed to beat some stiff competition to earn a major acting award win for his work in the role.

On Feb. 2, the 52nd annual Saturn Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles. At the event, Starr won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series. It's a significant win for Starr, as the award isn't limited to superhero-specific projects. Broadway star Patti LuPone has revealed that the Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” will not return for a second season, based on creator Jac Schaeffer’s preference for single-season storytelling.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM podcast, LuPone shared details of her conversation with Schaeffer during the show’s production. “Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,'” LuPone recounted. When she expressed hope for a second season, Schaeffer was clear about her creative approach.

“She said, ‘I don’t do second seasons,'” LuPone explained. “‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-off stories.” This approach is consistent with Schaeffer’s previous work on “WandaVision,” where she also declined a second season.

Agatha All Along came out on Disney+ last year and was the best Marvel series I'd watched in a while. That surprised me. Marvel series have been pretty hit or miss over the years, and Agatha All Along was a spinoff of WandaVision that drilled down on breakout supporting character Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn). It felt a bit like a cash grab, but I was delighted with its fleet-footed storytelling, vivid performances and sense of whimsy. Plus that song is a banger.
