From Homeland to And Just Like That, modern television has made the loudmouth alternative-media personality such a fixture that by now it’s practically a trope.
But few inhabit the role like Dan Stevens in the Netflix political-thriller series Zero Day, which has become a hit for the streamer and star Robert De Niro since its debut last month. Playing the part of popular YouTuber Evan Green, who gets especially vocal after a major terrorist attack, Stevens, 42, emits conspiracism and sanctimony so deftly, you wonder if he’s planning a side career.
Green occupies a seat that ideally should convey news to a thirsty audience. But in a world where “what should be objective fact becomes subjective,” as co-creator Eric Newman recently told The Hollywood Reporter, the character goes the other way. He sows division and even ends up a suspect himself.

A night out with your best friends is still the best night ever.
I saw “One of Them Days” in theaters over the weekend and I have to recommend it. It’s a buddy comedy that follows two best friends (Keke Palmer and Sza) who are trying to make rent before they’re kicked out of their apartment. The film is funny and heartfelt – the two leads have a ton of chemistry, you believe they’ve been best friends for a decade – and the plot is wild and entertaining. Ultimately, it’s about what buddy comedies are about: a great friendship that makes each person better. It got me thinking about other awesome buddy comedies out there – so, here are my favorite top seven buddy comedy movies you can stream right now.

U.S. filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, now based in Denmark, worries his “home country is perhaps becoming a dictatorship.”
“It remains to be seen. The question we all face, each and every one of us, is this: ‘Is it too late for us?’ I encourage you to look up and see that above you, there’s still a sky,” he said at Sweden’s Göteborg Film Festival on Sunday.
“When we read about the genocide in Gaza – which horrifies me particularly because it’s committed in my name as a Jew – when we read about thousands of people drowning in the Mediterranean Sea every year, trying to escape conditions of misery that we knowingly impose on them so that our clothes, our electronics, our food and our energy remains cheap… We feel heartbroken for a second and then we look for suitably heartbroken emoji,” he noted.

Friends has stood the test of time, with re-runs constantly being shown and generations of people still enjoying the sitcom that focused on six friends making their way through life in New York City. Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Rachel, Joey, and Chandler were well-defined characters that each had their own goals and personality traits while being there for one another, even if they had differing opinions.
The show finished 20 years ago, but the actors are still well-known for their portrayals on Friends. Adrien Brody’s Oscar Speech & Infamous Kiss With Halle Berry ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The Brutalist star Adrien Brody has launched the 2025 awards season campaign with a Golden Globes victory, cementing his position as a frontrunner for the upcoming Academy Awards. The last time Brody was in such a spotlight was 22 years ago for his role as Władysław Szpilman in The Pianist, another epic drama about Holocaust survivors. Then, he lost the Golden Globe to Jack Nicholson (About Schmidt) but won the Oscar, becoming the youngest-ever Best Actor recipient.
That March 2003 evening, however, is often remembered for a different reason: the unplanned kiss Brody planted on presenter Halle Berry. The Grand Budapest Hotel actor now has the rarest of chances to revisit the Oscars stage — this time with an opportunity to rectify the recklessness of his past. Fortunately for Brody, Berry, who had won the Oscar for Monster’s Ball the previous year,...

Kamala Harris raised more than $1.5 billion dollars in less than 107 days — a staggering, incomprehensible sum of money that signified an enormous confidence in her ability to deliver the presidency — and then she went on to lose all seven battleground states and the popular vote to a four times-indicted, twice-impeached, convicted felon and adjudicated sexual abuser. If losing that badly weren’t fuck-up enough, the campaign appears to have ceased operations tens of millions of dollars in debt.

Despite the huge success and acclaim of the first two Jump Street movies in the comedy franchise, 23 Jump Street appears to have been canceled. There were not many people who thought it would be a good idea to reboot the 1980s TV show about undercover cops in high school into a comedy, but 2012's 21 Jump Street was a surprise hit and the sequel took the action to college. They both dominated the box office, with 22 Jump Street grossing over $331 million (via Box Office Mojo), so it came as a surprise that 23 Jump Street never happened.
The novelty of throwing Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) into any kind of educational environment lends itself to tons of sequel possibilities, and the idea was even joked about at the end of the second movie. 22 Jump Street teased 25 sequels, such as 23 Jump Street: Medical School and 27 Jump Street: Culinary School,...

Just as fans were wondering what happened to Coach on New Girl, Winston was introduced as the new character in the sitcom. New Girl premiered on Fox in 2011 and came to an end in 2018 after seven seasons. The series, created by Elizabeth Meriwether, follows Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a bubbly teacher who, after a bad breakup, moves into an apartment with three less-than-mature men to begin a new life. Jess new roommates were Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.). Winston (Lamorne Morris) joined the group in the second episode of New Girl.
Coach made quite an impression in the first episode of New Girl as a cocky yet awkward former athlete who worked as a personal trainer but was a bit too intense with clients. Despite Damon Wayans Jr's great performance and his chemistry with the rest of the New Girl cast, the character was...

Fox's hit comedy New Girl resonates with viewers for its honest look at struggling roommates in Los Angeles and its improvisational comedic timing. The show follows elementary school teacher Jess Day (played by Zooey Deschanel) as she finds herself moving into a loft with male roommates after she catches her boyfriend cheating on her. The roommates, Winston Bishop (played by Lamorne Morris), Schmidt (played by Max Greenfield), and Nick Miller (played by Jake Johnson) each have their own unique history with one another from their childhood and college years, which comes into play as they forge their paths into adulthood.
The show offers a romantic slow burn between Jess and Nick, even amid their vastly different personalities. While the show's central couple have excellent chemistry, sometimes their differences get the best of them, driving them apart. On the contrary, Schmidt and Jess' best friend Cece consistently push each other to grow and improve as people,...

Posted on the official X account for You, the video shows Badgley channeling his inner Joe Goldberg and uttering a monologue that could rival any of Joe's internal monologues from the past four seasons. "You see how I show up to work? Very demure, very mindful," the actor says, looking straight at the camera as he goes about his day. "I don't really do too much when I'm at work. New Girl ended its run in 2018, but it gained a cult following that's eagerly anticipating a revival or spinoff. Co-stars Lamorne Morris and Jake Johnson have been playing hot potato over reunion talks, but Lamorne wants fans to know it's Johnson who's holding things up.
Lamorne Morris is committed to a New Girl reunion despite co-star Jake Johnson's ambivalent response. Johnson and Morris co-starred as mainstay characters Nick Miller and Winston Bishop, childhood friends living with Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) in the same loft. The show had such an eclectic ensemble it endeared audiences for seven seasons before it was canceled due to sustained rating drops. New Girl did give its characters a proper sendoff, but Morris is adamant the series could still go on. In an interview with ComicBook, he called out Johnson to admit he's the reason why a New Girl reunion wouldn't launch.

June Squibb has loved working with auteur Alexander Payne, but that doesn’t mean it was an easy road to start.
The actress detailed during SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” with Julia Cunningham just how much she had to convince Payne to cast her in 2002 film “About Schmidt.”
“Well, to be honest, it was very difficult to get them to look at me for ‘About Schmidt,'” Squibb said. “My agents tried and tried. They were in L.A. and going to shoot in Nebraska and I was in New York and they really didn’t want to use New York actors. They ended up, I think using one or two, but not very many. And they kept saying, ‘No, we’re not interested. We’re not interested.'”
The “Inside Out 2” star continued, “Finally, I think my agents wore them down and they said, ‘Yeah, just send us a tape.

Live concert experiences of the music for films, TV shows, and video games, with full orchestras, are nothing new. Screenings with a full onstage orchestra celebrate watershed scores, create communal experiences of beloved musical themes, and get people to see live music — to say nothing of a hellacious way to end “Tár.”
It’s not surprising that a juggernaut film like “Barbie” would eventually have a second life as a go-to for amphitheater-sized live screenings. But IndieWire is happy to report that “Barbie’s” concert era has come together in the most “Barbie” way possible. Folks looking to see the film with a live instrumental performance of Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt’s score — and their songs — will be treated to the Barbieland Sinfonietta, an all-female orchestra conducted by Macy Schmidt, at the Hollywood Bowl.

Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, 21 Jump Street established itself as one of the best buddy cop action comedies out there. However, some may not know that the film is actually an adaptation of the namesake television series which ran from 1987 to 1991. The series starred Johnny Depp as Officer Thomas “Tom” Hanson Jr. and was responsible for turning him into a teen idol.

After a little over two decades passed since he last played Officer Tom Hanson, Johnny Depp made a return to the franchise in the 2012 action comedy. While his time in the film was limited, the cameo was as iconic as it gets. However, he had one condition before he said yes to the part.

Before "21 Jump Street" became one of the defining buddy cop comedies of the 21st century, it was a hit crime procedural TV series that premiered on Fox in 1987. However, the 2012 big screen adaptation from directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller delivered something much different in tone than the original series, which took a rather serious approach to following a squad of youthful-looking undercover police officers sent undercover to stop crimes in schools, gangs, and other venues frequented by teens.
Despite the much more comedic and even meta approach to the premise of "21 Jump Street," Lord & Miller knew they needed at least one element of the original series in their movie: Johnny Depp, who cut his teeth playing Officer Tom Hanson. But ensuring Depp's involvement required bringing in another piece of "21 Jump Street" history.

Josh Margolin’s Thelma is a heartfelt drama-comedy that offers a fun and nuanced exploration of aging. Elevated by an exceptional performance from legendary Hollywood actor June Squibb, the film also features a terrific performance from the late Richard Roundtree – star of the American blaxploitation crime action thriller Shaft – in his last ever role.
The story centres on Thelma (Squibb), a 93 year-old widow living a quiet, solitary life in LA. Her days are filled with frequent visits from her aimless, yet adoring grandson, Danny (Fred Hechinger). When a phone scammer posing as Danny tricks her out of $10,000, Thelma is determined to retrieve her money. Despite her family’s concerns, she enlists the help of Ben (Roundtree), a widower from a neighbouring assisted living community, and together they set out on an adventure.
Writer-director Josh Margolin draws inspiration from his own grandmother’s near-experience with a scam, infusing the film with heartfelt affection.

New Girl debuted on Fox as a starring vehicle for "adorkable" actress Zooey Deschanel, but it quickly became an ensemble comedy. The series followed Jess (Deschanel) as a recently heartbroken young woman who moved into an LA loft to become the fourth roommate to three very different guys in their 30s: Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Coach who was later replaced by Winston (Lamorne Morris). She and the guys, along with her model best friend Cece (Hannah Simone), navigate young adulthood in Los Angeles.

Channing Tatum began his career as a model before quickly transitioning to the film industry. However, among his numerous movies, the buddy police comedy 21 Jump Street deserves a special mention. This movie was so favorably liked by the audience that a sequel, 22 Jump Street, was created after it.

The best Two and a Half Men episodes hilariously showcase the dynamics of the titular Harper men, and later Walden Schmidt, blending acerbic wit with hilarious sitcom humor Two and a Half Men is at its best with episodes like "Salmon Under My Sweater" and "Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab" when Jake is bonding and clashing with his family. The Polish Netflix hit Colors of Evil: Red features a robust ensemble cast. The leads of the movie are Jakub Gierszal, Maja Ostaszewska, Zofia Jastrzbska. Some of the most prominent English-language projects featuring the cast are Schindler's List, The Pianist, and Dracula Untold.

The crime thriller movie, which is a hit on Netflix, was directed by Werewolf's Adrian Panek from a screenplay that Panek co-wrote with The Getaway King's ukasz M. Maciejewski. Kii Muneyuki, a former head of production at Japan’s Toei, is launching K2 Pictures, a company that aims to upend Japanese filmmaking practices. Its debut slate, with films by Kore-eda Hirokazu, Iwai Shunji and Nishikawa Miwa, will be unveiled in Cannes next week.
A key part of the new company’s strategy is the establishment of a film fund, K2P Film Fund I, that will invest in live action and animations productions. It aims to attract investors from Japan, other parts of Asia and the U.S.
The company explains that “most Japanese films today are made under a system found only in this country of ‘production committees’ formed by such organizations as film companies, TV stations, and publishers. Funding under this system comes only from sources with film-related know-how, making entry difficult and limiting returns to both producers and creators.”

Former Toei producer Muneyuki Kim has launched K2 Pictures, which will work with major directors such as Hirokazu Kore-eda and aim to create a new funding ecosystem for Japanese animated and live-action features.
The plan is to return profits that would traditionally go to film companies to investors and creators, which its founder says closely follows approaches used in Hollywood and elsewhere. Creators who team with K2 will be able to participate on projects as shareholders.
Kii, who will be K2’s CEO, says most Japanese films are produced through a system of ‘production committees’ with industry know-how formed through film companies, TV networks and publishers, which it believes makes entry into the market difficult and limits returns to producers and creators.

The friendships on New Girl are just as important to the series as the romantic relationships. The show wouldn’t be what it is without the unique dynamics of the central friend group, both as a whole and within different pairings. Some friendships on the show are more expected, like Cece (Hannah Simone) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), and are there from the beginning to the end of the series. Others kind of appear out of nowhere, like Nick (Jake Johnson) and Tran (Ralph Ahn), and yet it’s hard to imagine the show without them.
New Girl is a great reminder at how important it is to let comedies explore relationships both within and outside of the core friend group. It’s one thing to see how the characters get along as a whole, but pairing people off who may or may not have much in common initially is an...

A revival of New Girl would undo its perfect ending. A reunion episode would be a fun addition to the series without messing with the ending. Nostalgia doesn't guarantee success and can hurt a show's legacy.
In the era of revivals in film and TV, New Girl shouldn’t join this trend as it would undo the show’s perfect ending. The 2010s saw a resurgence of sitcoms, and among the most popular ones is New Girl, created by Elizabeth Meriwether. New Girl introduced the audience to Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel), a quirky and optimistic young woman who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three strangers after finding their ad for a roommate online.
It doesn't take long for Jess to become friends with Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Nick (Jake Johnson), Coach (Damon Wayans Jr), and Winston (Lamorne Morris), forming a big, chaotic, but fun and supportive family. New Girl...

Sátántangó’s first few minutes provide an unsubtle hint that we’re in for a slow and gloomy slog, though you would expect that from any film by Béla Tarr. The Hungarian master, currently retired (he insists), is an international star who never set out to make a crowd-pleaser, even if his primary characters are pleasure-seeking proles at large in the swampy ruins of the post-Communist Eastern European Bloc.

The cows are themselves pretty interesting to observe, especially as one or two appear aware of the camera. They saunter toward the edges of the frame, and the camera bestirs itself,...

Harrison Ford acted "goofy" on the set of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, according to Mads Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen loved working with Ford, who is a kid at heart but also very serious about his work, making everyone feel at home on set. Mikkelsen underwent the de-aging process for his role in the film, too, and he insists on the importance of using the technique ethically.
Is it really any surprise that Harrison Ford acted “goofy” on the set of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? New Girl is one of the best sitcoms from the 2010s, and it's all because of its unique characters. The show follows the lives of a group of roommates after Jess, a quirky and desperately optimistic young woman, moves in with three men, Winston, Nick, and Schmidt, each unusual in their own way.
One of the reasons the characters of New Girl are so unforgettable is the excellent chemistry among the cast. Furthermore, the show tries to make them both funny and relatable. However, not all the characters are equally funny and well-developed. Some of the characters in the show quickly became some of the best in sitcom history, while others proved more forgettable.

DC vs Vampires: Every Hero Who Transformed in Nightwing's Vampire Army (Ranked Weakest to Strongest)
Nightrider and B'wana Beast prove to be the weakest and most pathetic vampires in the DC vs. Vampires series. James Gordon and Looker also have disappointing vampire tenures, meeting swift and embarrassing ends. Mister Terrific, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Zatanna make critical mistakes that have significant consequences for the vampire regime.
In the bloody setting of DC vs. Vampires, the sun has forever set on the DC Universe in this Elseworlds series, all thanks to the ingenious machinations of Nightwing. Dick Grayson, the Titan-turned-vampire-overlord, orchestrated a successful coup against the previous vampire ruler, Mary Queen of Blood. Afterward, he infiltrated the hero ranks, transforming those who were once champions of good into his own personal vampire army.
Amidst the unexpected twist of vampirism, DC's power dynamics have been upended, leading to a reshuffling of the hero hierarchy in the world of DC vs. Vampires, which spans a number of books. The main series,...

The creators of For All Mankind confirm that Ed Baldwin's character will return in season 5 and explain that his fate was decided early on because there is more story to tell. The show plays with the audience's expectations of character deaths and uses the history of the show to create surprises by keeping characters alive. The new time jump in season 5 of For All Mankind will revisit Mars and possibly explore other storylines, leaving the fate of characters like Dani Poole uncertain.
For All Mankind creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert seemingly confirm one original character's return, despite the new time jump for season 5. Portraying an alternate history, the Apple TV+ series imagines what would happen if the Soviet Union achieved the first Moon landing and the consequences of an ongoing space race. The cast includes Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Wren Schmidt, Edi Gathegi, and Krys Marshall.

Channing Tatum's suggestion to run all over the building made the Schmidt and Captain Dickson confrontation scene funnier and more impactful. The ability of the actors to improvise and have fun during the production process contributed to the success of 22 Jump Street. Despite plans for a sequel and spinoffs, the future of the 21 Jump Street franchise remains uncertain.
22 Jump Street co-director Christopher Miller reveals a key suggestion from Channing Tatum that made its best scene so memorable. The sequel's most well-known scene involved Jenko (Channing Tatum) figuring out that Schmidt (Jonah Hill) hooked up with Captain Dickson's (Ice Cube) daughter. He puts two and two together after seeing Schmidt wearing a bulletproof vest and Dickson addressing the elephant in the room. This prompts Jenko to walk around the office to tell everyone about it, turning into one of the most hilarious scenes from the movie.
