The San Diego Comic-Con lineup of films and television panels may never return to its pre-Covid level, but the 2025 schedule has enough of both to keep Sdcc attendees hopping between Hall H, Ballroom 20, and the Indigo Ballroom. TV panels once again outnumber movie panels, with the casts from series including Peacemaker, Outlander (the original and its prequel), Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Resident Alien, Revival, Gen V, Ghosts, and Abbott Elementary making their way to downtown San Diego for the sold-out pop culture convention.
The Anne Rice Universe will be represented by Interview with the Vampire and Talamasca. Plus, the stars of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Upload, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Alien: Earth, Dexter: Resurrection, Spartacus: House of Ashur, and Paradise are scheduled to attend the 2025 Sdcc.

San Diego Comic-Con is rolling out its schedule for the 2025 convention this week, which runs from July 24–27. It will likely be a quieter convention this year, since neither Marvel Studios nor DC Studios are planning a major panel covering their upcoming projects. But for the first time in its history, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas will appear in person at the largest annual fan gathering in North America, to give a first look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which is expected to open in Los Angeles in 2026. He’ll be joined in Hall H by director Guillermo del Toro, visual designer Doug Chiang and moderator Queen Latifah.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome George Lucas to Comic-Con for the very first time,” said Comic-Con’s chief of communications and strategy David Glanzer in a statement. “Nearly five decades ago, ‘Star Wars’ made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention,...

Whether it’s a hopeful farm girl learning to control her powers or a hardened warrior ready to face apocalyptic threats, every version of Supergirl has reflected the era and universe she belonged to. The late Princess Diana would have been 64 years old today on July 1. The young and beautiful Princess passed away on August 30, 1997. Her death occurred after a high-speed car crash in Paris. Resulting from being chased by the paparazzi with a drunk driver behind the wheel.
Princess Diana Passed Away at Age 36
Diana was 36 years old on the day of her untimely death, and much of the world still remembers where they were when they found out about her tragic passing.
After Diana’s separation from Prince Charles, the royal was often alone as her two young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were away at boarding school.
Diana was lovingly known as “The People’s Princess,” a title that was never more evident than on her final birthday. She had received cards by the truckloads and at least 70 bouquets of fragrant flowers before her staff had to stop counting.

Grog Strongjaw, a hulking barbarian warrior who once helped save the realm by splitting a terrible dragon’s skull in twain with a mighty cleave of his axe, did not expect to find himself dancing, doing the worm for the amusement of a fiendish emcee. As he writhed his body on the stage in front of a sold-out arena crowd, it’s fair to say that Travis Willingham didn’t expect this either. He and the rest of the cast of Critical Role were the ones who were actually dancing,...

In a week of constant gaming news, with big, little, and everything in between announced, it’s easy to miss some of the diamonds in the rough. Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, Dispatch could definitely be characterised as such.
Featuring Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, The Last of Us 2’s Laura Bailey, and more besides, Dispatch puts players in the boots of a former superhero, Robert Robertson, better known as Mecha Man. Robert is now in charge of a rehabilitation program for ex-supervillains and must manage a dysfunctional team of misfit heroes.
Per Adhoc Studio:

The first time that Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin’s HBO adaptation of “The Last of Us” majorly deviates from the game is also the first time the show begins to find its voice.
The heartbreaking Season 1 episode “Long, Long Time” tells the intimate 20-year love story between Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) as the two fall for each other, despite Bill’s more controlling, masculine nature, and even through Frank’s sickness. But in the game, their relationship is merely hinted at when Joel and Ellie discover Frank’s body hanging with a note.
It’s a notable expansion from the game, and the kind of narrative detour your average post-apocalyptic show wouldn’t dare devote an entire episode to. But in a world that has completely left hope behind, watching two men still find a rare form of connection is what gives this show its unique edge.

The conclusion to season 2 of The Last of Us is just around the corner, and with season 3 already confirmed, it’s safe to say there’s going to be a lot to unfold after the finale. Although some suspected the adaptation might shift things around compared to the game, especially after the initial focus on Abby, for the most part, barring some changes, the showrunners have been true to the original’s structure.
Unsurprisingly, season 3 will follow suit, as, according to Craig Mazin, the next season in question will be entirely about Abby.

To say that Tlou 2’s narrative is relegated to a revenge tale would be a disservice to the writers. The structure itself, while controversial, was important for the story that Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross realized with the Award-winning game. And according to Craig Mazin,...

[Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 2 and “The Last of Us Part II” video game]
Anyone who’s played the “Last of Us” games — or, to put it in Regina George parlance, been personally victimized by the “Last of Us” games — might have anticipated seeing Joel (Pedro Pascal) in flashback even after his demise at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). His perfectly planned trip for Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) 16th birthday occurs as a flashback at around this point in “The Last of Us Part II,” after the player has secured the Seattle theater as a base of operations to hunt the young Washington Liberation Front member down.
Our favorite immune survivor/Sally Ride fangirl’s joyful trip to a science museum is covered with the same warm glow by cinematographer Ksenia Sereda as it’s rendered in the game, and Joel’s pièce de birthday résistance, the space launch...

If you were shocked by Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) brutal death at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) in Episode 2 of The Last of Us Season 2, you weren’t alone — and according to showrunner Craig Mazin, your reaction might have been healthier than the fanbase’s first time around. In a new interview with Collider’s Christina Radish, Mazin opened up about the response to Joel’s death in the show compared to the backlash that followed the same event in the game.
“Yeah, a little bit,” Mazin said when asked if he was surprised by how many people didn’t know it was coming. “Neil [Druckmann] and I had a lot of discussions about this because this presumption was that everybody’s going to know. A lot of people played the game, and people talk online constantly. I remember in the early days of social media, whatever the Harry Potter movie was where Dumbledore died,...

If you asked me what the finest adaptation of the Marvel Universe is, the 2010 cartoon "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" would have to be up there.
It was the second attempt at an Avengers cartoon, after the best forgotten "Avengers: United They Stand." "Earth's Mightiest Heroes," from the moment it premiered on Disney Xd, was much better. Developed by Marvel animation veterans Christopher Yost and Joshua Fine with director Ciro Nieli, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" did what the (sadly short-lived) "Spectacular Spider-Man" did. It took the whole of "Avengers" comics, picked out the most famous stories and what worked, and streamlined a messy publication history into an epic saga.
Yost and Fine, as adult fans of Marvel Comics, were clearly writing with people like themselves in mind. But that wasn't to the detriment of young viewers! What kids got in "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" was a show that respected their intelligence and attention.

The Last of Us is one of the most popular video game franchises ever, and it is not just for the flashy visuals and emotional storytelling. Naughty Dog wanted to give the gaming community a cinematic, yet interactive experience that could rival major Hollywood blockbusters and passed with flying colors. Unfortunately, in every tale of success comes a fair share of trials and hardships.
The studio’s name will forever be part of the online hate discussion. Director Neil Druckmann learned that the online community is vocal and will deliver their message even if it is aggressive. To that end, Druckmann has been preparing Tati Gabrielle, the lead of his new project, for the hate they will face.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated title. It’s the first new original IP in the developer’s catalog since 2013’s The Last of Us, and gamers can’t wait to see how this sci-fi journey manages to take forward the legacy of Naughty Dog.
Right after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s reveal, some angry commentators bombarded it with hate, calling it “woke trash” that was destined to fail. The hate was even directed against The Last of Us 2 actress Tati Gabrielle, who plays the game’s protagonist, Jordan.
However, Naughty Dog isn’t backing down from such a hateful campaign as studio head Neil Druckmann has been himself “bootcamp-ing” The Last of Us 2 actress.

This article contains spoilers for "The Last of Us" season 2, episode 5.
The Cordyceps brain infection is fairly straightforward. Both in "The Last of Us" games and on the show, it got its origin from tainted crops but soon started spreading on its own, courtesy of infected individuals. After this initial infection, the poor person with the mutated Cordyceps now growing in their brain is slowly taken over, leading them to a hellish life cycle of various types of Infected zombies on "The Last of Us."
Up to now, however, the show has omitted a key component of the Cordyceps infection. In the games, all non-immune characters have to keep a gas mask ready whenever they're exploring confined areas in case they stumble upon a spot where the air is contaminated by Cordyceps spores. Breathing them in is a surefire way to become infected, which makes the spores a dangerous (and fairly common) environmental threat.

The Last of Us is deep into its second season, and so far it's doing a shockingly faithful job of adapting the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us Part II. The season kicked off with a brutal twist when the new character Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) came to the settlement of Jackson and murdered Joel, the hardened smuggler played by Pedro Pascal. Joel was the main character of The Last of Us season 1, but now he's off the board, clearing the way for his surrogate daughter Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to come to the forefront for season 2.
When The Last of Us Part II came out, the backlash to Joel's death was severe; things reached such an unhinged level that people were sending death threats to Abby actor Laura Bailey and her family. The show hasn't faced quite the same amount of controversy, but it's still had its share. It's...

After the recent release of the fourth episode, we’re now more than halfway through The Last of Us Season 2. Although Pedro Pascal’s role as Joel has been cut shorter than Season 1 after his tragic death in Episode 2, other characters like Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Tommy (Gabriel Luna) have stepped into larger roles. Kaitlyn Dever is one of the many new additions to the Season 2 cast, and while her role as Abby has been small thus far, she’s certainly making the most of her limited screen time. Lifestyle Asia recently caught up with Dever for an interview to chat about The Last of Us Season 2, and she was asked if she had spoken with Laura Bailey, who plays Abby in the game:
"I actually didn’t, mostly because Neil Druckmann really wanted me to just focus on the scripts and not the game."

That was not a trick of the light, Josh Peck did in fact have a quick cameo in “The Last of Us.”
The actor appeared in a quick scene to open up Season 2, Episode 4 of the HBO adaptation. Like many people in the post-apocalyptic landscape of “The Last of Us,” the “Drake and Josh” alum is not long to survive but his appearance is likely to turn some heads and raise some eyebrows.

While HBO has dominated the small screen for the last 25 years, for a brief period, AMC did threaten the network’s crown with some of the finest pieces of television with Breaking Bad, followed by its spin-off, Better Call Saul. With HBO once again rocking the medium with The Last of US season 2, interestingly, there’s one common link when it comes to the departure of some of its most popular characters.
The scene in question is the nursing home, which finally brings Gus’ empire down, and the brutal execution of Joel in the HBO retelling of the revered Naughty Dog gem.

On the surface level, both scenes revolve around bringing a murder plot to fruition, whether it’s Walt’s desperation to get rid of his rivals or Abby’s obsession with bringing her dad’s killer to justice.

Early in The Last of Us Part II, Joel, the main character from the first video game, dies. He is brutally murdered by a new character named Abby while his surrogate daughter Ellie watches. For the rest of the game, players switch between playing as Ellie and Abby, as the one goes on a quest for revenge and the other recovers from her own.
Critics loved the game, but players went berserk. There was an online backlash so loud you could not avoid it if you were even passingly interested in gaming and owned a phone. Offended fans raged and ranted; the low point may have been when Laura Bailey, the actor who voiced Abby, received death threats not only against herself but her 2-year-old son.

The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020, and time has vindicated it. It sold less than the original game, but it still sold over 10 million copies,...

Bella Ramsey's Ellie is leading The Last of Us after Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) died in the last episode. It was a painful and prolonged death, and the characters are all feeling the after effects.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey said that the scene where Ellie cries over Joel's jacket was the most taxing. "Oh God, in the closet, that was the hardest," the actor said. "So I really struggle with crying in scenes. I can get a tear out - but that's different to crying. And even getting the tear, it doesn’t come easy for me. I don't cry in front of people in my everyday life. A very, very limited amount of people in my life will see me cry."
"And so having to do that on a set full of people with the monitor and then more people watching the monitors…it's virtually impossible for me.

Much like the video game that it is based on, The Last of Us Season 2 has been made a victim of review-bombing. This is when a bunch of internet trolls collectively manipulate ratings on aggregator websites, mainly to vent their frustration at a story's elements, often times in a political sense.. Several platforms such as Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb have taken measures to prevent this sort of thing, but there's only so much that can be done to keep trolls at bay. They've really been at it with the second season of The Last of Us, which continues to be critically acclaimed, but has also seen its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes plummet to unreasonable lows over the last couple of weeks. That said, this appears to be somewhat unique to Rotten Tomatoes, as the IMDb user score for the episode sits at an impressive 9.5 out of 10.

This article contains spoilers for both "The Last of Us" on HBO, particularly Season 2 Episode 2, "Through the Valley," and the 2020 video game "The Last of Us Part II." If you don't want to read any game spoilers, stop reading now!
In "Through the Valley," the second episode of the sophomore season of HBO's adaptation of "The Last of Us," fans of the original Naughty Dog game series got the moment they've been waiting for (and likely dreading). Joel Miller, the protagonist of the story played by Pedro Pascal, meets a bloody, grotesque end at the hands of Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever), the daughter of a man Joel once killed to save his own (surrogate) daughter, Ellie (Bella Ramsey). I'm not saying anyone should be happy about this. The scene is, to put it lightly, gutting to watch. Ramsey's performance as Ellie, who's pinned to the floor and begging for Joel's life,...

This story contains Major Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 2.
The most recent shocking twist in The Last of Ussaw Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) murder fan favorite Joel (Pedro Pascal) in revenge for the murder of her father. This will spark a cycle of hideous violence as Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Joel's surrogate daughter, tracks down Abby and her companions.
Unfortunately, the killing off of a beloved character often sparks online trolling, and this time is no exception. Kaitlyn Dever has already had abusive messages posted on her social media account - including, bleakly, on the pinned Instagram post where she discussed the loss of her mother. But her co-stars aren't having it.
Bella Ramsey is in fact friends with Dever in real life - the hatred between their characters does not remotely translate to reality - and when Ramsey appeared on Capital Buzz they made it a point to condemn the trolling.

The following contains spoilers for The Last of UsSeason 2, Episode 2, "Through the Valley."
Mark Mylod knew exactly what he wanted viewers to see when bringing the most controversial scene from The Last of Us Part II video game to the HBO series. According to the director, the way Abby kills Joel played out just like he hoped.
"I wanted to avoid overt torture," Mylod told The Hollywood Reporter about The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 2. "I don't have much interest in showing violence itself." Instead, his approach to the scene was driven by understanding. "But what motivated Abby to a place where she was doling such extraordinary violence - that is endlessly fascinating. So after establishing the brutality and, hopefully, exploring some of the context to why this young person was driven to such extraordinary violence and cruelty, I wanted to keep most of it off-screen."

There’s no moment more controversial — or more emotionally charged — in The Last of Us franchise than Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) death. And in HBO’s Season 2, Episode 2, that moment finally arrived in all its horrific, grim and unrelenting brutality. But while the world reeled from losing Joel, the creators and cast were equally focused on the impossible challenge placed on one actor’s shoulders: Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Abby. Now, we have to be honest about things here. Abby doesn’t just kill Joel. She mercilessly beats him to death, one of TV’s most beloved father figures, in front of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) — and in front of millions of viewers. Stepping into that role? It took guts.

This post contains spoilers for this week’s episode of The Last of Us, which is now streaming on Max.
Ellie and Joel. Joel and Ellie. That was the pairing that made the first season of The Last of Us so special. The combination of these two damaged souls — her needing a parental figure, him needing a surrogate daughter, both afraid to acknowledge this fact to themselves or each other — coupled with spectacular performances by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, elevated the HBO drama above the usual tropes of a post-apocalyptic survival story.

Episode 2 of The Last of Us Season 2 aired Sunday night, recreating a plot point that had long divided the game’s fanbase. Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal, was killed by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) in a sequence that closely follows the early events of The Last of Us Part II. Joel is ambushed in a mountain lodge outside Jackson, Wyoming, where Abby attacks him with a golf club and drives a spike into his neck.
The moment reflects a controversial turn in the source material. Joel had previously killed Abby’s father, a Firefly surgeon, at the end of the first season during Ellie’s rescue. His actions led Abby to pursue him, continuing the cycle of retaliation that drives the sequel’s narrative.
Pascal said there was no point when he was explicitly told Joel would be killed early in Season 2, but the idea was always present. “It was...

If you were shocked Sunday night to see Pedro Pascal’s Joel get brutally murdered to death by Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby and her crew of Fireflies from Salt Lake City in the latest episode of the HBO’s “The Last of Us,” you were not the only one who was blindsided.
Fans of the game have been talking about the shocking decision, first made in the TV adaptation’s source material “The Last of Us: Part II,” since its release in 2020. Like many things during the Covid pandemic, the sequel to the original Naughty Dog and PlayStation video game was delayed as the company’s staff adjusted to working from home. The game would ultimately be released in June of that year. But two months before its release, creator Neil Druckmann’s worst nightmare came true.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us Season 2
HBO’s The Last of Us had a phenomenal episode this week that was action-packed and gut-wrenching. The biggest twist in the second part of the game, which this season adapts, came true, much to our fear and sadness. Pedro Pascal’s Joel is now dead, being killed by the nemesis who was introduced in the season premiere, Abby.
Kaitlyn Dever, known for Booksmart and Apple Cider Vinegar, plays the controversial character. When her casting was announced last year, fans were not too happy with Dever as her physical appearance was not close to the game’s counterpart. However, Dever’s performance this week will probably shut purists up.

The Last of Us season 2 is here and just had its second episode premiere. Based on the video game franchise of the same name, the first season of the show followed the source pretty faithfully, garnering rave reviews and awards in the process.
Well, the event we had all been fearing finally took place in the second episode, leaving many of us heartbroken even though we knew what was coming. Kaitlyn Dever’s portrayal of Abby Anderson took center stage in a brutal and highly pivotal episode. While she deserves all the praise in the world for her acting genius, her role also raises serious concerns given what happened to the Og Abby actress, Laura Bailey.

As part of The Last of Us' adaptation process, fans got to learn Abby's motives earlier than expected.
Following the acclaimed HBO show's Season 2 premiere, showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin spoke with The Verge about the opening scene and why they felt it necessary to establish Abby's Firefly status from the beginning. Much of this, according to Druckmann, came down to the challenges of video game vs. television narrative progression, stating, "When we put out The Last of Us Part II, you have the entire story and you decide how you want to pace it out. Here we're putting out episodes week by week, which are roughly an hour long. If we were to wait as much as we did in the game to reveal certain things, our viewers might have to wait a very,...

The Last of Us Season 2 finally premiered this past weekend, giving viewers a glimpse of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie's (Bella Ramsey) new status quo. Taking place five years after the events of Season 1, the premiere episode reintroduces fans to the Jackson settlement that was first revealed last time around when Joel reunited with his brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). For those who have played the game, the setting is a pretty impressive recreation of the opening hub that players explore in the first section of The Last of Us Part II. Much like the video game, there is also a fun cameo from someone essential to the production of both the games and the series.

This article contains spoilers for the premiere of "The Last of Us" season 2.
"The Last of Us" has an interesting approach when it comes to video game adaptations. For the most part, the show plays like a shot-for-shot remake of the video game of the same name directed by Cruce Straley and Neil Druckmann and developed by studio Naughty Dog. Except the series does something unexpected every so often, from dedicating an episode to telling the backstory of a minor character whose nuance most gamers miss, or wholly original prologues that show how the Cordyceps fungal infection started abroad.
When it comes to meta references to the games, "The Last of Us" finds a good balance between winks at the audience and just loving tributes to the people who helped make the game. Take the casting of Ashley Johnson as Ellie's mom, a beautiful cameo that works on many levels...

The Last of Us Season 2 is about to throw a wrench into the emotional core of the series with the arrival of Abby—one of the most polarizing figures in modern gaming. But for series newcomer Kaitlyn Dever, playing the part of the muscular, grief-stricken soldier from The Last of Us Part II has been anything but one-note.
In a new interview, Dever opened up about taking on the role originated by Laura Bailey in the game, the physical transformation required, and the internal damage Abby hides behind her armor, which she uses in her physical and emotional conflict with Pedro Pascal's Joel and Bella Ramsey's Ellie in the series. She also confirmed that, by design, her approach would not be a direct imitation of Bailey’s performance, which is probably for the best.

The internet is, once again, in shambles. Season 2 of The Last of Us hasn’t even aired yet, and fans are already sharpening their pitchforks over the casting of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. Why? Because, in their eyes, she simply doesn’t have the same physique as her video game counterpart.

The consequences of Joel's actions reveal themselves in The Last of Us'brand new season 2 trailer.
Released during The Last of Us' SXSW panel, the trailer features a look at not only the life Joel and Ellie have built in Jackson since season 1's finale, but additional conflict between The Last of Us Part II's rival factions the Washington Liberation Front and Seraphites in Seattle. In between these scenes, the trailer featured several throwbacks to its video game source material like Joel and Ellie's flashback museum trip, Abby and her allies traveling through the snow, and Ellie and her girlfriend Dina dancing and escaping a horde of Infected in an abandoned train station. Additionally, new scenes were teased that didn't appear in the game, such as Joel observing Ellie's tattoo covering up her bite marks, Wlf leader Isaac confronting a prisoner, and Joel's brother Tommy battling a Bloater with a flamethrower.

Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us comes out on April 13, 2025. Season 2 will follow the game so we can expect to be introduced to Abby Anderson and her story. With Kaitlyn Dever taking on the role, the series has the opportunity to expand on one key aspect of her backstory that was cut from Naughty Dog’s second game.
The first season was a big success we’re hyped for Season 2. | Image Credit: HBO
According to Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in the game, there was a deleted flashback revealing Abby’s history with Wlf leader Isaac Dixon. The scene would’ve given us more context into their relationship and explained why he was so forgiving of her betrayal. Let’s hope it makes it to Season 2.
Abby’s story will be a big part of The Last of Us Season 2 And this cut content would add a lot of weight to it.

The Last of Us is hailed as one of the best stories ever told in gaming by many, and fans became attached to its characters. Director Neil Druckmann struck gold with an original story about a post-apocalyptic world devoid of life and love, and Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson brought their A-game for their respective roles, but the director can only do so much to keep their characters interesting. All good things must end, and some fans felt Joel Miller’s demise in the controversial sequel was too soon and an indication that no one is safe.
