The Art of the Emmy Submission: Which Stars and Series Chose Wisely (and Wrongly) to Win Gold
Image
The art of the Emmy submission has long been a strategic tightrope walk — part performance showcase, part calculated gamble. This year’s contenders are playing the game more thoughtfully, and creatively, than ever.

Apple TV+’s “Severance” and “The Studio” lead the pack in drama and comedy, with 27 and 23 nominations, respectively, while HBO Max made history with 142 total nominations — its highest tally yet. Still, while numbers and category domination make for splashy headlines, the real intrigue lies in how nominees carefully curate the episodes meant to win over Emmy voters.

Historically, episode submissions were everything. When Emmy panels were selected from blue-ribbon groups that were required to watch every submitted tape, lesser-known performers could score upsets with a powerful episode — a Tatiana Maslany in “Orphan Black” could sneak past network juggernauts. There were also no-brainer selections, like when Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) had her baby on “Friends,” which all but sealed her Emmy win.

She-hulk Star Tatiana Maslany Faces An Unspeakable Evil In Red Band Trailer For Osgood Perkins' Keeper
Image
Neon has released the full trailer for Keeper, the latest movie from Osgood Perkins, who has been carving out a name as a modern-day master of horror following the likes of The Blackcoat's Daughter, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Longlegs, and The Monkey.

Keeper stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor), and follows a couple as they "escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets."

The first teaser showed various women in different locations (and possibly timelines) looking towards the camera, before things took a very dark turn. Here, we get a little more to go on, as the trailer plays out from the perspectives of Liz and Malcolm, who both seem to be equally...

Tatiana Maslany Is Returning as She-Hulk: Industry Insider’s Report on Avengers: Doomsday
Image
Tatiana Maslany‘s Jennifer Walters will reportedly return in Avengers: Doomsday, despite the reception of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The latest report comes from industry insider Alex Perez, who was answering fan questions on his The Cosmic Circus Q&a session. He is not the first insider to suggest She-Hulk’s return to the upcoming Avengers film.

The show was considered one of the worst in the MCU, with fan hate pouring over the CGI character played by Maslany. However, multiple insiders say Marvel intends to bring her back. This will come as a surprise to some fans of the actress, who were upset that she was completely cut from Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again.

Earlier in May, insider Jeff Sneider also brought up Maslany’s name when he revealed an extended list of names set to appear in Doomsday. Sneider’s list on The Hot Mic podcast also included Charlize Theron,...

Keeper Trailer: Tatiana Maslany Tries to Survive in Longlegs Director’s Next Horror Flick
Image
Osgood Perkins‘ second horror feature of the year, Keeper, has received its first trailer, which stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland at the forefront. Having already delivered two major horror hits in recent memory, Longlegs and The Monkey, this movie marks his second collaboration with the Marvel star.

Although much of the story is still shrouded in mystery, the trailer offers us a glimpse at the plot, featuring a couple in a secluded cabin, which is par for the course when it comes to horror locations. However, what sets it apart is the approach to the story, which is told from dual perspectives.

Keeper Trailer Splits the Perspective Between Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland

Midway through the trailer, which sees Tatiana Maslany’s character questioning her relationship at the beginning, cuts to Rossif Sutherland’s character, who mimics the same narration and questions regarding their bond.

Part of Marvel Studios' deal with Sony Pictures to co-produce Spider-Man movies involves characters from the MCU teaming up with the web-slinger. Why? Well, it boosts interest and increases ticket sales, hence Robert Downey Jr.'s $10 million payday for 8 minutes of screentime in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Later, Spider-Man: Far From Home enlisted Nick Fury and Maria Hill, with Spider-Man: No Way Home putting the spotlight on Doctor Strange, and to a lesser extent, Wong and Matt Murdock.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as The Hulk for a team-up (and potential clash) with Peter Parker. Keeper Trailer Sets November Date For Tatiana Maslany’s Cabin Horror
Keeper (2025)
Neon has unveiled the newest trailer for Osgood Perkins’ Keeper, confirming a November 14 theatrical release and sharpening the film’s premise: Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland play a couple whose anniversary getaway to a secluded cabin fractures when he abruptly heads back to the city, leaving her to face an encroaching threat tied to the property’s past. The studio’s description frames the story as a contained, single-location thriller written by Nick Lepard, with Chris Ferguson and Jesse Savath producing.

The campaign extends the cryptic playbook Perkins used on Longlegs and The Monkey. Earlier this summer, a poster surfaced with the ominous line “I don’t like you anymore,” following a first teaser that simply showed Maslany staring into the camera and scribbling for 66 minutes and 6 seconds—an endurance provocation that said little and set a mood.

New footage leans into suggestion over exposition. Quick cuts place Maslany’s character in isolation,...

Osgood Perkins’ ‘Keeper’ Gets Haunting First Trailer, Featuring Tatiana Maslany As A Woman Questioning Her Relationship During A Nightmarish Cabin Getaway
Image
A seemingly idyllic cabin getaway takes a haunting turn in the first trailer for horror auteur Osgood Perkins’ forthcoming pic Keeper. Starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, the two-minute clip teases a relationship on the brink, influenced by the unfolding wickedness around the couple.

“Why does it always have to end? Is there any way to keep love alive? Do I even know this man? Is it his face I see when I close my eyes? Or only a mask that he’s wearing? Always there, looking back at me. I think he’s a keeper,” Maslany’s Liz narrates, before her partner Malcolm (Sutherland) repeats the words from his perspective.

Billed as a “dark trip” from Perkins — who is coming off of the dual successes of Longlegs and The Monkey — the film features the tagline: “I don’t like you anymore.” The promotional material for the Neon project also...

A New Teaser for Osgood Perkins’ ‘Keeper’ Asks Why Things Have to End
Image
The ongoing partnership between Osgood Perkins and Neon continues to be one of the healthiest marriages in all of independent film. But the horror auteur is preparing to follow the success of “Longlegs” and “The Monkey” with a dark look into relationships gone awry.

Perkins’ latest work — and his third Neon release in 16 months — “Keeper” sees him applying his distinctly dark gaze to a contained horror film about a woman who finds herself trapped in a haunted cabin. A new teaser released on Monday gives fans their closest look yet into the secrets it might be hiding.

An official synopsis for the film reads “During an anniversary getaway at a remote cabin, a wife (Tatiana Maslany) is left alone after her husband (Rossif Sutherland) departs, only to confront a sinister presence that exposes the cabin’s chilling past.”

Perkins’ meteoric rise through the indie horror world began with the 2024 thriller “Longlegs,...

Disturbing ‘Keeper’ Teaser Trailer Asks What It Takes to Make Love Last
“Why does it always have to end?” That’s the haunting question at the center of the new teaser for Osgood Perkins’ latest film, Keeper. While the teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much, the images of obscured faces, a fish picked clean, frantic doodles of screaming faces, and a terrified red-haired woman looking over her shoulder (possibly the same figure glimpsed outside a stained-glass window) prove we’re in for yet another disturbing entry from Perkins.

What is certain is that the two characters, who we now know as “Liz” (Tatiana Maslany) and Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland), want to know if love can ever truly be kept alive before coming to the conclusion that they’ve both found a keeper.

Check out the trailer below:

After cementing himself as one of the defining horror directors of the moment with The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Longlegs, and The Monkey, Perkins seems to be determined to keep audiences unsettled.

Full ‘Keeper’ Trailer Reveals Osgood Perkins’ Latest Nightmare-Inducing Horror Story
Image
Osgood Perkins is unstoppable.

The writer/director’s “The Monkey,” a gonzo Stephen King adaptation (and one of the best horror movies of the year), came out in February. And already he’s back with another new original film, “Keeper,” out this November. And you can get your first look at his latest, which stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, via a new trailer. Watch it below.

What makes the trailer for “Keeper” so fascinating is that it’s split in half, with one half dedicated to “Liz” (Maslany’s character) and the other to her partner Malcolm (Sutherland) – we already know something fishy is going on since Liz’s name has quotes around it. And an early teaser suggested that the woods surrounding the house where the story takes place has a dark and twisted history all of its own.

Beyond the fact that the film centers on a...

Keeper Trailer: Osgood Perkins' New Horror Film Stars Tatiana Maslany
Image
Osgood Perkins has made massive waves in the last two years with his horror movies Longlegs and The Monkey, and he will soon release Keeper, which just got a new trailer. Longlegs holds an 86% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score while The Monkey is at 77%; The Monkey also became a streaming hit upon its release on Hulu.

Meanwhile, Keeper is slated for a theatrical release on Nov. 14, 2025. Keeper stars She-Hulk and Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany and Murder in a Small Town's Rossif Sutherland. The new movie follows a couple who retreat to a secluded cabin, which turns out to be viciously haunted, prompting a confrontation and fight for survival.

Keeper's initial teaser from several weeks ago was especially mysterious, but the new full trailer hints more at the movie's plot and core themes. The video has a unique format, essentially repeating its spiral into haunted house terrors twice, starting with...

Maika Monroe in Longlegs (2024)
Keeper, the latest Osgood Perkins horror film, gets a new teaser trailer
Maika Monroe in Longlegs (2024)
Neon did a great job putting together intriguingly strange marketing material for director Osgood Perkins’ horror film Longlegs last year, and it paid off, as the film earned more than $125 million at the global box office. Over $74 million of that was the domestic haul, making that film Neon’s highest-grossing release domestically. The marketing for Perkins’ Stephen King adaptation The Monkey was less intriguing, but the movie still did fine when it was released this past February, pulling in almost $64 million worldwide. Coming up next from the Neon / Perkins collaboration is the dark trip horror movie Keeper, which is expected to reach theatres on November 14th, and Neon is once again coming up with an interesting marketing campaign. It began with the promotional video “It has no end,” then a poster for the film was unveiled, sporting the tagline “I don’t like you anymore.” But that’s not all there wass to it.

Stephen King’s short story The Monkey has taken a fresh and twisted turn under Oz Perkins’s direction. After the success of his 2024 indie hit Longlegs, Perkins returned with this darkly funny and brutal adaptation, putting Theo James in a challenging double role as twin brothers Hal and Bill Shelburg.

The film struck gold for distributor Neon, earning $68.9 million worldwide and a 78% Certified Fresh score from critics.

The Monkey Tops Streaming Charts

Now streaming on Hulu, The Monkey is topping the platform’s charts, surpassing titles like The Other Woman and The Amateur, per Flixpatrol.

The Marvel character who once had 'no MCU future' will now return, reports say
Image
Characters have come and gone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the franchise's opening movie. The film series takes place in one of the biggest, richest, and most larger-than-life shared universes to ever grace any screen, so it isn't surprising that some characters pop in and out while others go for long periods of time before we see them again.

However, the Multiverse Saga took this to the extreme. Due to the expansion of the MCU across film and TV, the gap between appearances for characters was wider than ever. Moreover, there were a multitude of newer characters introduced who received some relatively divisive responses from audiences (or appeared in projects that didn't go down too well). Various rumors and reports have since claimed that those characters have had their returns "cancelled" while others believe it will just be some time until we see them again.

For one character who...

Stephen King's 'The Monkey' Becomes Major Hulu Streaming Hit
Image
Stephen King adaptations have been a staple of cinema since 1976, when Brian De Palma's Carrie, based on the king of horror's debut novel, set a high bar for future adaptations. The 1980s saw a boom in such adaptations, including Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980), Cujo, Christine (both 1983), Pet Sematary (1989), and others.

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of Stephen King adaptations. It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019) introduced his classic tale of terror and camaraderie to a new audience, with the first film becoming the highest-grossing horror movie of all time. Mike Flanagan has emerged as one of the most lauded interpreters of King's work, notably with Doctor Sleep (2019), which deftly bridges King's novel with Kubrick's vision of The Shining.

This year alone has seen the horror movie The Monkey, Mike Flanagan's existential Life of Chuck, with the dystopian thriller The Long Walk and Edgar Wright's...

Is America Chavez Returning in 'Avengers: Doomsday'?
Image
Xochitl Gomez might have hinted that she's returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, despite not being officially confirmed as part of the main cast.

Gomez joined the MCU in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as America Chavez, a young girl with the power to travel between universes who was the target of Wanda Maximoff / The Scarlet Witch. Several years later, despite the MCU being in the middle of its Multiverse Saga, Chavez has yet to reappear, even with the franchise speeding towards Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking with Et Online, Gomez was asked about her involvement in Avengers: Doomsday and what fans might expect to see of her character. Gomez notably declined to correct the interviewer, point out that she hadn't been announced as part of the cast, or even deny that she'd be in the movie, leading some fans to speculate she's in Avengers: Doomsday,...

Do Emmy Episode Submissions Still Matter? Kathy Bates, Quinta Brunson and Britt Lower Make the Case
Image
With the Television Academy officially revealing this year’s Emmy nominees, attention turns not only to who’s in the running — but what episodes the actors are submitting. Though the Emmys have increasingly become dominated by buzz and momentum, official episode submissions can play a critical role. But as full-season sweeps have become more common, it’s worth asking: Does the individual episode still carry as much weight?

In the lead drama actress category, frontrunner Kathy Bates — who made history as the oldest nominee ever — opted for the penultimate 17th episode of “Matlock’s” inaugural season from CBS. “I Was That, Too” reveals the truth about Matty (Bates) to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and provides an absolute masterclass in acting from Bates, blowing the story wide open.

Her closest competitor, Britt Lower, submitted the acclaimed “Attila” episode from Apple TV+’s dystopian “Severance” — where “Innie” Helly R. learns that her...

'Longlegs' Director's 78% Rt Stephen King Adaptation Is Dominating on Streaming
Image
After the success of Oz Perkins's indie darling Longlegs last year, one of the most anticipated films of 2025 was his adaptation of The Monkey. The film got plenty of buzz not just for its director, but for how it adapted the Stephen King short story of the same name in a violent and darkly comedic fashion, with Theo James in a dual lead role as twins Hal and Bill Shelburg. All the hype translated into another box office hit for Neon and Perkins, raking in $68.9 million globally and earning a Certified Fresh 78% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes to boot. Now that the killer wind-up toy has made its way to streaming on Hulu as of last week, it's dominating a new front, currently topping the charts ahead of The Other Woman and The Amateur.

The Monkey follows the two brothers as their lives are haunted by the titular cursed Monkey,...

Kathy Bates could make Emmy history as sole nominee for ‘Matlock’
Image
Kathy Bates could be heading for one of the rarest wins in Emmy history. The Oscar winner and two-time Emmy champ is Matlock’s only nomination at the 2025 Emmys — and if she wins Best Drama Actress, she’d be the first performer to take the prize for a lone-nominated show since Tatiana Maslany. Only two other women — Patricia Arquette and Sela Ward — have pulled off the feat this century.

Bates currently leads Gold Derby's odds over Britt Lower (Severance), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters). Bates' industry gravitas, a Critics Choice Award win earlier this year for Matlock, and the show’s status as one of the most-watched programs on television weigh in her favor.

Jax Media Alums Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns Team With Elise Henderson to Launch Counterpart Studios
Image
Producers Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns have teamed with former MRC TV president Elise Henderson to launch Counterpart Studios.

The pair who previously ran the production banner Jax Media have quietly been working with Henderson under the Counterpart banner for the past year. Hernandez serves as CEO of Counterpart, while Burns is chief creative officer and Henderson is president. Sarah Madigan, formerly a senior business executive at Jax Media and Imagine, has also signed on as chief operating officer.

The group will leverage its deep experience in production and strong industry relationships to bring business to Counterpart. As was the case with Jax, the company will offer a mix of production services on third-party projects and it will pursue its own in-house development.

“We believe that high-quality, efficient production is the root of creative success, and we have built a company around that model,” Hernandez, Henderson and Burns said in a statement.

Oz Perkins Describes New Horror Film 'Keeper' as "A Look at Disgusting Maleness"
Image
The next film by modern master of horror Osgood Perkins is set to be released in November 2025, the same year he released the well-received Stephen King adaptation, The Monkey. Keeper, which will reunite the director with Tatiana Maslany, is a project that has remained almost entirely under wraps. Neon's marketing team has made sure to keep everyone in the dark with an eerie trailer that doesn't show much, and a campaign that has revealed zero details about the plot. However, Maslany and Perkins have revealed what the film is about, and, well, the intrigue has only grown.

Perkins and Maslany sat down to talk to Comic Book during the recent edition of the San Diego Comic-Con. While the conversation did not include big reveals about Keeper, it was enough to get a couple more clues that could help fans solve the mystery. This is what Perkins said when describing...

11 Marvel Comics stories that would make perfect animated Disney Plus shows
Image
One of the beauties of streaming platforms is having the opportunity for comic book stories to be told outside of their respective cinematic universes. Maybe more importantly, it’s a chance for the novice to see them like they are in the source material. You can see what started the momentum that made them popular.

Marvel Studios has successfully attempted this multiple times on Disney Plus, with the likes of X-Men '97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man telling gripping, comic-accurate stories that aren't tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And that just highlights that we need more animated Marvel shows.

The upcoming list will explore some Marvel Comics stories that would be the perfect source material for an animated series or project on Disney Plus. Let’s start with a personal favorite.

Deadpool by Gerry Duggan

This is the series I normally recommend to new Deadpool readers. It has all of the fourth-wall breaking,...

'She-Hulk’ Star Patty Guggenheim Wants To See More of Madisynn in the MCU [Exclusive]
Image
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law featured a breakout star in Patty Guggenheim, who completely stole the show as Wong's new best friend, Madisynn. In a recent interview with Collider, Guggenheim expressed interest in returning to the MCU sandbox for future projects. A second season of She-Hulk could easily pull off a larger-scale story with Jennifer Walters helping other Marvel heroes, like she did with Daredevil in Season 1.

The world is almost exactly three years removed from the release of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the fourth wall-breaking MCU series led by Emmy-winner Tatiana Maslany. In addition to the Orphan Black star, who has still not been seen in the MCU since, Marvel brought back other franchise veterans like Mark Ruffalo and Benedict Wong to star in the series as Bruce Banner and Wong. However, the true breakout stars were in the newcomers, like Jameela Jamil, Josh Segarra, and, of course, Patty Guggenheim.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Exec Producer Reveals His 4-Year Plan for the Upcoming Series
Image
The latest Star Trekseries doesn’t even have a set premiere date on Paramount+, but the team behind Star Trek: Starfleet Academyis already thinking about the future. The iteration of Trek is set to premiere its first season in 2026 and has already been renewed for a second.

In an interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy executive producer Alex Kurtzman teased what he called a “four-year” plan for Starfleet Academy. The new show stars Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti and a host of cadets at the newly reopened Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. The series is set in the same timeline as the last three seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, 100 years after “The Burn” destroyed the Federation.

Kurtzman explained why a four-year plan works for the show. “You have to have a four-year plan because college is four years long…We do have a plan for...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Brings In An Avenger (And A Returning Villain) To Join Tom Holland
Image
Each of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies has had a special guest star Marvel character (as if Spider-Man himself isn't enough to get people to theaters). "Homecoming" had Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), "Far From Home" had Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and "No Way Home" had Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (plus a slight cameo from Charlie Cox as Daredevil).

The upcoming fourth film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (which just revealed its first eight-second-long teaser) is not changing the team-up formula. The movie will face the challenge of trying to match the scale of "No Way Home" but it'll face this head-on and at worst go down swinging like Peter Parker does. It's already been confirmed that Jon Bernthal will be appearing as the Punisher in the movie, and he's sure to be (at best) an uneasy ally for Spider-Man. Now,...

Original 'Avengers' Cast Member Joins 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'
Image
Another Avenger is swinging into Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and it’s not who you’d expect. Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner in the upcoming MCU film, marking a big green return to the big screen and a major addition to the fourth installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series. Although Marvel hasn’t confirmed what exactly Banner will be doing in the story, it's expected that whatever Hulk he's portraying in the film won't be restricted to just a cameo, but rather Bruce Banner will play a key part in the story alongside Holland's Peter Parker. We're hoping for some kind of science bros storyline, or maybe a mentorship somewhat in the vein of Peter and Otto Octavius from Sam Raimi's trilogy. The news was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, even though the casting was initially reported all the way back in...

‘Awards Magnet’: Kathy vs. Britt, Noah vs. Adam, and all the drama over drama — including casting!
Image
The Awards Magnet team is back to dish all the drama over drama at the 2025 Emmys.

While senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Denton Davidson agree on who will win most categories, they fiercely clash on others like Best Drama Series (The Pitt vs. Severance), Best Drama Guest Actress (Merritt Wever vs. Kaitlyn Dever), and Best Drama Casting (The Pitt vs. The White Lotus). Oh, the humanity!

In the lead races, they debate the closely watched contests of Kathy Bates vs. Britt Lower for Best Drama Actress, and Noah Wyle vs. Adam Scott for Best Drama Actor. Does Bates have an uphill climb because she's the only Emmy nominee from her show, Matlock? Or could Lower take her down as part of a Severance sweep? They also note how Wyle submitted the season finale of The Pitt instead of his heralded breakdown episode, while Scott put forth the absolute best option he could have,...
