While Gummo, Trash Humpers, and Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine has always pushed the edge of cinema, his latest Edglrd projects certainly bring him into a new echelon. Following his infrared crime thriller/nightmare Aggro DR1FT, he’s back with Baby Invasion, which sports a brand new score from Burial. Following its Venice premiere last fall and ahead of its unique NYC event this Friday, the first trailer has now arrived.
This Friday’s event will take place at Queens’ Knockdown Center and will feature Korine deconstructing and mixing the feature film like a DJ set, transforming Baby Invasion into a pulsating, hypnotic experience. The event, which one can get tickets for here, will also feature live DJ sets by Harmony Korine/Edglrd, Doss, Eyedress, and Yves Tumor.
Here’s the synopsis: “An ultra-realistic, multiplayer Fps game follows a group of mercenaries using baby faces as avatars through the use of AI.

Hot on the heels of the title track from her forthcoming album, Eusexua, FKA twigs has dropped another song and video, this one for the poppier “Perfect Stranger.” The clip—directed by Jordan Hemingway, who was also at the helm of the stunning “Eusexua”—features cameos from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Yves Tumor.
The video sees twigs slipping into various characters across a series of vignettes, intercut with the kind of bold choreography and forward-minded fashions we’ve come to expect from the English artist. The scenes range from depictions of conventional domesticity (twigs is alternately seen cutting vegetables and bouncing a baby on her hip) and less traditional situationships (her body forms the base of a coffee table while a man watches TV).
In one scene, twigs portrays the sub to Waller-Bridge’s dominatrix. The singer is handcuffed, walking on a treadmill, while the actress, wearing silver-tipped horns around her neck,...

St. Vincent stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night to perform a pair of songs from her recent album All Born Screaming: “Flea” and “Big Time Nothing.”
As expected, St. Vincent brought plenty of ferocity to her performance of “Flea.” Bathed in a stark red light, she raged through the song’s grungy chorus and eventually landed on her knees for a dreamy guitar solo. For “Big Time Nothing,” on the other hand, St. Vincent appeared more tense and poised; She employed lots of hand choreography, and by the time she got into her new wave-inspired solo, she loosened up and began dancing around the stage a bit more. Watch both performances below.

While her pair of songs were definitely rousing on Fallon, she was even more frenetic when performing “Broken Man” through a moshpit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year.

Way Out West, a music festival based out of Sweden, has added a new stage for… sperm and eggs?
Somehow, it’s true. The festival will set up a stage/IVF laboratory specifically for sperm and eggs in a fertilization process. Designed by Love Hultén, headlining performances from acts like Fred again.., Peggy Gou, Queens of the Stone Age, and Pulp will be streamed into the lab for the listening pleasure of the sperm and eggs.

The festival cites a Spanish study from Institut Marquès that suggests music and vibrations increase the chances of IVF success by five percent as the reason behind the wild move. They also recognize the absurdity, however. “Above all, we’re doing this as a fun idea to highlight the importance of a vibrant live music scene, and the studies are used more as creative insight rather than scientific evidence,...

It’s been just over a month since St. Vincent’s latest album All Born Screaming arrived, and to support the new release, Annie Clark stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a sizzling performance of the song “Broken Man.”
Cooly delivering the song’s lyrics with an underlying flair of sinisterness, Clark and her band brought “Broken Man” to life, learning into the song’s industrial rock feel. For the climax, Clark even hopped into the crowd, belting the lines “Like you never seen a broken man” as she made her way moshing through the pit. Watch the video of the performance below.

St. Vincent has shared “Big Time Nothing,” the third single to arrive ahead of her forthcoming album, All Born Screaming. Watch the lyric video below.
“Big Time Nothing” follows the previously released tracks “Flea” and “Broken Man” in anticipation of the LP, set for release later this week on April 26th. While the other two singles share the psychedelic touches of “Big Time Nothing,” this latest offering leans even further into explosive instrumentals and pulls back the focus on lyrics. St. Vincent holds the sole producer credit on all three tracks, and All Born Screaming is poised to be her first entirely self-produced album.

Kim Gordon has revealed her new sophomore solo album, The Collective. Stream it below.
Featuring icy, industrial, and hip-hop centric sonics, Kim Gordon narrates the scenes of The Collective with a stream-of-consciousness, collage-esque lyrical style. The album was produced by Justin Raisen, who has worked extensively with Lil Yachty, Yves Tumor, and Angel Olsen, and produced Gordon’s last album, 2019’s No Home Record.
The Sonic Youth co-founder previewed The Collective earlier this year with the laundry-list lead single “Bye Bye,” which we named as a “fucking banger” in our Song of the Week column, and the toxic masculinity-skewering “I’m a Man.” She also shared the noisy, mantra-heavy “Psychedelic Orgasm” this week. Kim Gordon has announced her second solo studio album. The Collective is out on March 8th via Matador, and the Sonic Youth musician is celebrating the news with the lead single “Bye Bye” as well as a batch of 2024 tour dates.
Gordon’s follow-up to her 2019 debut No Home Record brought her back to producer Justin Raisen, whose knack for dub and hip-hop leaning beats intermingle with Gordon’s best-in-class rock songwriting.
Those colliding genres are especially evident on the rumbling, ear-splitting “Bye Bye.” You would probably never guess it was a Kim Gordon song until her droning voice comes in, rattling off what sounds like her to-do list before a big trip: “Buy a suitcase, take pants to the cleaner,” she raps. “Call the vet, call the groomer/ Call the dog sitter.”
Before long, roaring guitars come in, almost as if signaling anxiety about travel — or something more sinister.

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has compelled some...

Blondshell’s self-titled era isn’t over yet. Come October 6th, Sabrina Teitelbaum will issue a digital deluxe edition of her debut full length, which she’s previewed with the new song “Street Rat.” Check it out below.
Originally released in April, Blondshell channeled the indie rock of the 1990s with modern flourishes courtesy of producer Yves Rothman. The promising LP featured “Salad,” the best song of 2023 (so far), and earned Teitelbaum the chance to open up for Liz Phair on her upcoming tour.
The deluxe edition expands Blondshell from nine tracks to 14, featuring the new songs “Street Rat,” “Tarmac 2,” and “It Wasn’t Love,” as well as a demo version of “Kiss City” and the previously released standalone single “Cartoon Earthquake.” Today’s melancholy offering features über fuzzed out guitar as the artist realizes she probably has a problem with a substance. “Wouldn’t feed that to a street rat,...

Last summer, when Sabrina Teitelbaum was about to release her new single “Kiss City,” she sent it to her sister for some reassurance. With lyrics like “Just look me in the eye when I’m about to finish,” the explosive alt-rock stunner was the most explicit song she’d ever written.
“She sent me back some text that was like, ‘Oh my god. I can’t believe you just said that about sex,’” Teitelbaum, who performs as Blondshell, recalls. “I was like, ‘But our family’s not going to hear it.

Regret, longing, and heartache define the latest song by Yves Tumor, the producer-singer who’s spent the better part of quarantine and lockdown recording new music. “These days have been tragic,” Tumor sings on “Jackie,” the standout track from their recently released The Asymptotical World. “I ain’t sleepin’/Refuse to eat a thing.”
Produced and co-written by Chris Greatti, the track’s stadium-sized drums channel 1990s boom-bap, while an electric guitar wails more elegiac than bombastic. Tumor overlays and distorts their voice, building in intensity even while maintaining a slightly detached delivery.
