From Samantha Stephens on “Bewitched” to Sabrina Spellman on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” the concept of a TV show about witches is an old (pointed) hat. And it’s not a trend that will soon disappear, if there’s any indication from buzzy shows like the upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series on HBO and the second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
But our historical depictions of witches and interpretations of the pagan beliefs are both steeped in arts and culture. And this means they come with good, bad and even conflicting tropes. When developing a TV show, it’s often up to the creators and their creative teams to decide which way something wiccan is coming for their projects.

AMC is building a franchise called the Anne Rice Immortal Universe out of late author Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witch books – and while we wait to see what’s going to happen with the spin-off series about the secretive society called the Talamasca, the network has renewed the Mayfair Witches series for a third season, while confirming that season 3 of the Interview with the Vampire series won’t start airing until 2026.
It’s kind of surprising to hear that Interview with the Vampire season 3 won’t be making it to the airwaves by the end of this year, because it was officially announced last June, plot synopsis and all. The show is moving on to the events of the second novel in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series, The Vampire Lestat. The Mayfair Witches season 2 finale, "Into the Woods," certainly saw a lot go down. There was a big and major death, a key character is leaving (we think?), and Rowan has now been changed, possibly forever. As far as finales go, I think it was a really good one! So is there more to come?
At the time of this writing, AMC has not revealed whether a Mayfair Witches season 3 is happening. The Anne Rice series has been a bit hit or miss with fans, especially those who have read the author's books and can't help compare the novel to the adaptation. I do agree that the series is messy and need some work if it does continue.
Though I do think the story could be written much better, there actually is more to tell and explore. Plus, Anne Rice's universe has become pretty established at the network, with Interview...

‘Mayfair Witches’ Showrunner Unpacks Finale Fates, Talks Anne Rice Crossovers and Hopes for Season 3
[This story contains major spoilers for the Mayfair Witches season two finale.]
For Rowan and the other Mayfair witches, the events of the AMC series’ season two finale signal that the game is on, says showrunner Esta Spalding.
As fans saw on Sunday night, with the help of Ciprien (Tongayi Chirisa) and others, Rowan (Alexandra Daddario) succeeds in taking down the Scottish Mayfairs — headed up by Cortland’s (Harry Hamlin) brother Ian (Ian Pirie) — after they kill Lasher (Jack Huston) for the power of his blood. While Rowan is able to save Lasher, once in the fight to stop Julien, the other Mayfairs and save his children with Emaleth (Henessi Schmidt), he is felled.
In the lead up to his death, Julien’s intentions behind the sacrifice of both of his sons as well as Lasher come into starker focus, as does Julien’s necessity for Rowan and her power as part of a much larger plan...

Mayfair Witches strays quite far from the books both in terms of the story and the characters, so it’s obvious that fans of Anne Rice’s “The lives of the Mayfair Witches” aren’t too fond of the show. But to be fair, there’s more to the general dismissal of Esta Spalding’s show as a worthy addition to Immortal Universe than just the liberties it takes with the source material. Personally, I have a wildly varying opinion on the show depending on which episode I’ve seen last. And since Mayfair Witches goes from 0 to 100 within the matter of a single episode, it’s not the easiest thing to stick to the show. But now that the sophomore season has drawn to a close, I’ve got to admit that I’m pretty excited to see where the story will go should they greenlight a 3rd season.

Alexandra Daddario is an award-nominated performer, but not everybody is a fan. Some have criticized the Mayfair Witches star for her acting work, but she doesn't put too much stock into what they say, feeling that her Emmy nomination speaks for itself.
Per Elle, Daddario was asked to address what she considers to be the "most outrageous rumor" she has heard about herself that just "won't go away." What came to mind first for Daddario was the perception held by her critics that she's "a bad actress." While she agreed that not every project she has been a part of has been a major success, she pointed out how these failures were not because of her performances directly. When it comes strictly to her work, Daddario feels very confident in how she performs on-screen.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3, “Cover the Mirrors.”] The first official crossover of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe shows took place in Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3 through Felix (Gabriel Freilich), the vampire student of Lestat seen in Interview With the Vampire‘s Season 2 finale. Mayfair Witches was more so borrowing a vamp from Iwtv than it was providing any narrative update to the franchise’s flagship show with this crossover, but showrunner Esta Spalding tells TV Insider that there will be some foundation laid for the upcoming Talamasca series later this season. Felix’s run-in with Lasher (Jack Huston) opened the episode. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Mayfair Witches season 2, episode 3!Mayfair Witches showrunner Esta Spalding has explained season 2's Interview with the Vampire cameo, and what it means for the wider Immortal Universe. At the beginning of Mayfair Witches season 2, episode 3, Lasher (Jack Huston) is approached by Felix (Gabriel Freilich), a vampire drawn to him because of his inhuman nature. The pair have a conversation where the vampire encourages the reborn entity, since he's a new creature in this world. Felix is also an unnamed vampire, credited as "pale young vamp," seen helping Lestat (Sam Reid) in Interview with the Vampire's season 2 finale.
Speaking with TV Insider, Spalding explained how the idea of a vampire in New Orleans came about, influenced by wanting to tie Mayfair Witches more concretely into the Immortal Universe. The showrunner worked with Interview with the Vampire showrunner Rolin Jones, naming the young vampire while giving him a purpose in the show.

AMC has expanded their adaptation of Anne Rice's Immortal Universe in Mayfair Witches, but will the supernatural thriller get renewed for a third season soon? Developed for TV by Michelle Ashford and Esta Spalding, the series adapts Rices' Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy of books that concern Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario) as she inherits her family's fortune, and discovers their lineage of witchcraft. A malignant spirit named Lasher (Jack Huston) has linked itself to the Mayfair family for centuries, and Rowan is the latest in a long line of Mayfair women who must try to stop the foul entity.

The first season of Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches has already deviated quite dramatically from the book it's based on, with changes ranging from subtle to totally transformative. Set in the new Immortal Universe based off of Anne Rice's iconic work that began with 2022's Interview with a Vampire, Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches adapts the first tome of Rice's Mayfair Witches book trilogy, The Witching Hour. Showrunners Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford has already taken some extreme liberties with the source material.
At over 1,000 pages long, it's no wonder that an 8-episode series had to make such sweeping changes in their adaptation of the story. Just like in the book, the first season follows brilliant neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Mayfair as she learns about her true heritage as a magical witch, born into the mysterious Mayfair clan of spellcasters. However, the first season has already created some dramatic differences from...

Anne Rice's Immortal Universe is showing no signs of slowing down, with new seasons of both Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire on the way. Tongayi Chirisa, who stars in the former as Talamasca agent Ciprien Grieve, recently teased that a crossover between the two series could be in the works.

AMC's critically-acclaimed adaptation of Interview With the Vampire recently wrapped its superb second season, but the network's other serialized take on the works of the late Anne Rice, The Mayfair Witches, is also set to return for a sophomore run, and a new teaser trailer and poster have now been released.
The first season concluded with Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario) giving birth to a human incarnation of the demon known as Lasher (Jack Huston), fulfilling the Mayfair family prophecy in the process.
This came on top of Rowan discovering that she is the heiress to a long line of witches - and learning the truth behind her own parentage, which ultimately led to her using her new magical abilities to turn her biological father to stone.
“In the books, [Lasher] grows really quickly in a matter of minutes. We’ve drawn it out a little bit,” showrunner Esta Spalding reveals to TV Line.

Lasher is human in Mayfair Witches Season 2. Or is he? Jack Huston‘s enigmatic and dangerous character makes a “terrifying” return in Season 2, according to the stars in our New York Comic Con video interview (above). Agatha All Along is one of the biggest shows of the fall. In terms of hype and excitement, it feels like one of the biggest of Marvel's Disney+ shows since the streaming service launched in 2019.
After fans watched all nine episodes of Agatha All Along, there's going to be a long wait until Agatha All Along season 2 (or whatever iteration that continues this story) hits Disney+. And, on top of that, we have a lot of good and witchy shows like Agatha All Along while we wait for season 2.
Let's get the list started...
