Josh O’Connor is best known for his award-winning performance as Prince Charles in The Crown. But he may be hinting at new endeavors- this time behind the camera. The British actor, celebrated for his emotionally evolved performance in films like La Chimera, recently got candid about his increasing interest in directing.
Who ignited the spark? Harris Dickinson. The Babygirl actor recently made a bold and critically acclaimed directorial debut with the movie Urchin at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Dickinson, primarily known for his brilliant acting skills, has now shifted gears and is riding full speed towards directorial success. Urchin stands as a raw portrayal of humanity’s reality. And it’s this very masterpiece that’s caught O’Connor’s eye. In a recent interview, O’Connor opened up about being inspired by Dickinson.

Kate Winslet has had a fantastic career, of course. She has starred in some of your favorite films, such as The Holiday and a small film called Titanic. She has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, and she won for 2009's The Reader. But there is one thing she has never done before.
That would be directing a film. She has produced several projects, and she has even helped write a TV series. But direct? Nope, not yet.
She will soon do that, however. She will be the director of the Netflix movie Goodbye June, which she will also star in. The plotline follows a group of siblings who seemingly have grown apart only to be forced back together again during a trying time. We do not know yet what that trying time is, of course, but do we want to know before we see the film? Unlikely.

In her feature directorial debut, Bonus Track, Julia Jackman has created an immensely charming romance. With help from a script co-written by Michael Gilbert and Josh O'Connor that is equal parts silly and sweet, the end result seems impossible to dislike. The central pair are George and Max, played by Joe Anders and Samuel Small, two 16-year-old boys living in small-town England. George is far from academically gifted, but his aspirations lie in the music industry. So, when Max — the son of a famous musician — arrives at his school, the two join forces to prepare a song for the end-of-year talent show.
The drama is relatively low stakes: Max having a famous father makes him the topic of tabloid speculation and George's parents are going through a tumultuous time in their relationship. However, those plot threads could really be anything, as they just work in service of the central romance.

Julia Jackman’s feature debut about two teenagers with a shared passion for music is entertaining and sympathetic if a bit formulaic
Writer-director Julia Jackman is an award-winner for her short films and now makes her feature debut at the London film festival with this teen romcom, based on an idea co-authored by Josh O’Connor – who shows up in an amusing cameo playing a masked graffiti artist and part-time body piercer with a sub-Banksy reverence for his own anonymous glamour. It’s sweet-natured and engagingly laid-back, if a bit televisual and reliant on that time-honoured staple that dates from Richard Curtis’s Love Actually: the end-of-term school show in which a romantic declaration becomes an unscripted part of the programme.
The year is 2006 and, come to think of it, this is the second Lff movie set in 2006, after Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn; perhaps it will...
