With increasing class disparity, the pervasion of hyper consumerism, and corporate control over every sphere of life, it’s no wonder that in art and literature, eat-the-rich has become a subgenre in itself. The existing inequality, the negligence of the so-called one percenters towards the plight of those in need, and the inevitable conflict between different strata of the economic hierarchy make for relatable, engrossing narratives. But the issue is, among the numerous movies released nowadays that deal with this particular topic, only a few actually manage to ask the right questions with an understanding perspective. Unfortunately, Netflix’s German drama, Delicious, isn’t one of those, and despite having the right intention to portray the ever-growing and persistent class divide, it ends up demonizing the oppressed class in the most weird way possible. The characterization feels largely derivative as well, and the narrative as a whole is very predictable.

In Dear Child,a 13-year-old missing persons case is reopened with stunning and dramatic turns. When an unknown woman is struck by a car in a German forest at night, doctors and nurses at the ER have plenty of questions. And then, once they start talking to the precocious and strange little girl who accompanies her in the ambulance, the mystery grows deeper — and more urgent.
Based on the international bestselling novel of the same title, Dear Child (originalGerman title Liebes Kind) unspools its suspenseful story across six episodes. It’s as tense as Gone Girl, while theclaustrophobic, dungeon-like scenario that the little girl (Naila Schuberth) describes back home recalls Room. In Dear Child, all the twisting roads and plots appear to point back to that dark forest — or do they?
When will Dear Child be released?

"Dear Child" is a gripping German thriller on Netflix, but it is not based on a true story. The events and characters are entirely fictional. The series is based on the 2019 novel "Liebes Kind" by Romy Hausmann, but the Netflix adaptation deviates slightly from the book to create something fresh. The show follows the perspective of different characters and tells a story filled with twists, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats and eager to unravel the truth.
Dear Child revolves around a mysterious 13-year-old missing person's case that abruptly gets reopened following the discovery of a woman and a child, and the intriguing plot has some viewers wondering if the series on Netflix is based on a true story. Dear Child is a crime thriller from Netflix and an original miniseries that dives deep into the depths of a crime that took place a decade ago and the connection found to a woman who was severely injured. This genre always garners plenty of attention from the audience, for it does not spoon-feed them. It allows the audience to think from a different perspective as the drama surrounding the case unfolds, and many truths come out. Dear Child is based on the novel by Romy Hausman. Apart from being an investigative thriller drama, this show also brings forward the effects of trauma, manipulation, and their prolonged effects. The psychological effects of crime unravel as the show progresses and the hunt for the culprit begins.

Yet it’s also true for the viewers, who also never see the monsters. At their best, Bird Box and the sequel Bird Box: Barcelona follow the principles of Jaws and Alien: They keep the creepy thing out of sight to let the viewer’s imagination do the work.

This review has a mild Bird Box: Barcelona spoiler.
Is Bird Box a movie franchise? More precisely, is Bird Box essentially a shared cinematic universe? Netflix obviously thinks so, as this weekend’s Bird Box: Barcelona acts as both a spinoff and a naked bit of franchise world-building after the original Bird Box movie took streaming subscribers by storm… for a couple of weeks in December 2018, at any rate. Yet I might argue that it’s unclear whether that film scored with audiences because of its grindhouse-adjacent premise or simply due to it being a high-concept movie starring Sandra Bullock that was released during the doldrums of a holiday season.
Since then we’ve seen a lot of Netflix thrillers led by movie stars taking a streaming paycheck, and few have had the impact of Bird Box. Maybe that’s why the film’s ostensible sequel is trying to do the same thing again,...

Screenwriting and directing duo Álex Pastor and David Pastor face the enormous task of crafting a story that is as engaging, thrilling, and unique as Bird Box without relying on the same themes and plotting. Bird Box Barcelona suffers from the reality that the creatures cannot truly be revealed, as the premise thrives on the characters and audiences not knowing what they are. This may lead to repetitive actions and scenarios, requiring creativity on the part of the filmmakers. However, the franchise can’t continue without feeling redundant or evolving to the next step, figuring out how to defeat these beings or developing a cure. Both of these possibilities are hinted at in Bird Box Barcelona, but they're not fully explored. The Pastors work on this by honing in on personal narratives and teasing the possibility that humans can resist and defeat these creatures. The allure of the unknown is still very much intact,...

Five years ago seems aeons in an era so disrupted by Covid. So it comes as a surprise to realize that the original screen “Bird Box” arrived a full 14 months or so in advance of pandemic restrictions — becoming an early Netflix pop-culture phenomenon before lockdown made that sort of thing a regular occurrence. Susanne Bier’s film of Josh Malerman’s sci-fi horror novel was intriguing and suspenseful enough, even if its emphasis on psychological drama over thrills made for a somewhat unlikely breakout hit.
Inevitably, if belatedly, there’s now a follow-up — but not an adaptation of Malerman’s own print sequel, which continued the travails of the character played by Sandra Bullock. Instead, “Bird Box Barcelona” is a “parallel story” set on another continent entirely. Bird Box Barcelona, Netflix’s follow-up to the 2018 hit Bird Box, operates under the assumption that viewers are caught up to speed on the monstrous, unseen entities that rendered the world into a post-apocalyptic dystopia. Writer/Directors Álex Pastor and David Pastor bypass retreading the familiar invasion story beats to instead jump straight into character introductions against a backdrop already torn asunder. While 2018’s feature grapples with motherhood, Bird Box Barcelona explores grief, religion, and salvation. Its ambition in themes fascinates even when its execution struggles.
An opening scene introduces dad Sebastián (Mario Casas) having a touching moment with daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard) as they roller skate in an empty gym. It’s short-lived as the pair gear up with goggles and prepare for a blind trek to safety. The hostile strangers encountered shortly after signal a city deeply entrenched in and familiar with the creatures that have decimated the world.

Review: Released eight months after John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, Bird Box became a hit for Netflix. In the five years since Susanne Bier’s film debuted, author Josh Malerman has penned a sequel novel while a film follow-up has been in development. The first of multiple global spin-offs, Bird Box Barcelona continues the tale of supernatural entities that force people to commit grisly suicide. Existing in the same post-apocalyptic universe as the Sandra Bullock-led hit film, Bird Box Barcelona manages to weave a distinct story while unveiling new details about the monstrous beings by taking the story in an unexpected direction.

Bird Box is finally getting a sequel, and while there's no A-list actor like Sandra Bullock leading the movie, the Bird Box Barcelona cast is full of great performers. The original Bird Box follows a mother (Bullock) attempting to protect her two children from supernatural entities that make people take their own lives when they're looked at, which leads to everyone blindfolding themselves. However, Bird Box 2 isn't a direct sequel to the original 2018 movie. Bird Box Barcelona takes place in the titular Spanish city, and follows a new group of characters, as the entities terrorize not only a small town but the whole world.
Given that Bird Box Barcelona is much bigger in scope compared to its predecessor, it has a bigger cast. While most of the actors in the movie are extras who take their own lives based on the Bird Box 2 trailer, there's a tight-knit group of survivors...

"There are worse things than the creatures." Netflix has revealed the main official trailer for the Bird Box Barcelona movie (also known as Blindly in Spanish). It will be available to watch in just a few more weeks. The Netflix Spain production tells another story within the same post-apocalyptic people-go-kill-themselves universe as the first Bird Box in 2018. After a mysterious force decimates the world's population by causing all who "see" it to suddenly take their lives, Sebastian and his daughter Anna must navigate their journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than unseen creatures grows. This stars Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Diego Calva Hernández, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Really looks like this'll be much better than the original film.

The second teaser trailer for Netflix’s Bird Box spinoff, Bird Box Barcelona, reveals much more of the terror the citizens of Barcelona are feeling as the creatures launch their attack. The premise remains the same as the original film – cover your eyes and never ever look at the creatures – but the setting switches to show how the world’s dealing with these bizarre beasts.
Bird Box starring Oscar winner Sandra Bullock premiered in December 2018, and the spinoff will debut on Netflix on July 14, 2023. Goya award winner Mario Casas (No matarás) leads the cast of the spinoff, starring Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, and Patrick Criado.
In addition, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia also star.
Álex Pastor and David Pastor penned the screenplay and co-directed. Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis produced the post-apocalyptic thriller.

Five years after the original "Bird Box" became an absolute sensation on Netflix, we're finally getting a follow-up. While it's not a proper sequel, it is more of a spin-off taking place elsewhere in the world. In this case, Spain, which is why the forthcoming movie is aptly titled "Bird Box Barcelona." That also has a nice alliterative ring to it. But that's about the only thing about this movie that looks nice, as it seems absolutely chaotic and tense.
This appears to be going with a very similar conceit as the original film, with survivors trying to avoid eye contact with the mysterious beings at the center of this disaster at all costs. It's a new group of people in an entirely new location. What will those new elements bring to the table? Let's have a look-see.

Netflix has released an official teaser trailer for Bird Box Barcelona, an upcoming spinoff set in the same universe as the 2018 film.
"Those things, they take our fears, and they twist them," explains Georgina Campbell's undisclosed character in the opening moments of the Netflix teaser. The upcoming Spanish-language spinoff takes the terror and action from the original film and places it thousands of miles away in Spain. Similar to the 2018 film, which starred Sandra Bullock, Barcelona follows a family as they try and survive while avoiding visual contact with the mysterious creatures that are causing mass suicides across the globe. However, according to an unseen individual in the trailer, the monsters are evolving, suggesting that the protagonists in the upcoming spinoff may be in for a tough road ahead.

In today's news of slightly unnecessary projects, Netflix is reviving its hit original film "Bird Box" with a sequel-extension film called "Bird Box Barcelona." You read that right, we're getting another "Bird Box" film, but seemingly one that is simply adjacent to, and not a continuation of, the events of the original. Interesting.
Netflix debuted a one-minute teaser trailer for the new film — which was announced back in March 2021 — and it gives us a glimpse into a similar event as the 2018 film, only in Europe this time. There is chaos in major cities, and folks turn to obscuring their sight in the outside world in order to obtain shelter. Again, it's very much a global repositioning of the events of the first film, however, it does seem like this new story will have some of its own twists and turns.

Bird Box, one of Netflix’s most-watched movies ever, has finally spawned a follow-up — some four-and-a-half years after the Sandra Bullock-led original broke streaming records.
Released back in December 2018, the original Bird Box followed a mother (played by Bullock) as she and her children embark on a two-day journey whilst blindfolded, to avoid eye contact with a mysterious force that is decimating the world’s population. Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and John Malkovich (Billions) co-starred.
