Magic: The Gathering has collaborated with numerous IPs this year. First, there was the announcement of Marvel's Spider-Man; next was a limited SpongeBob SquarePants drop, which featured existing cards in the style of the iconic cartoon, followed by a Final Fantasy release. And this November, it was announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender will have its own drop. But this July, another brand will dash its way to the Magic: The Gathering universe. The world of Sonic The Hedgehogwill all be transformed into trading cards in an upcoming Secret Lair Superdrop.
According to the official Magic: The Gathering website, Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends are speeding into the Mtg universe with three new Secret Lair sets, each featuring seven cards inspired by the iconic Sega franchise. The first set, "Secret Lair X Sonic: Friends & Foes," features cards of beloved characters, including Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow, with...

New concept art imagines Jim Carrey as Sonic the Hedgehog, and... Well, there's hair, and flesh, and teeth. It's grotesque. Carrey has played absurd characters before but this one takes the cake.
One artist went above and beyond in transforming Jim Carrey into Sonic. It's easy to imagine Carrey as the voice of the blue hedgehog, and now fans won't have to wonder what the live-action counterpart would look like. Instagram user isaiasarts has a knack for "fleshing out" animated characters, literally; he takes stills of popular scenes from The Simpsons or SpongeBob SquarePants, and then reforms these using Adobe Photoshop. Carrey's Sonic looks like a horribly gone wrong experiment, however, much more absurd than The Grinch or The Mask.

Carrey went all-out with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise; he played two unique characters in the third film and even served as artistic consultant.

While some anime characters amaze viewers with superhuman feats of strength or intellect, sheer speed is one of the most entertaining and impressive physical feats of all. Plenty of anime characters push their mobility to the limit, moving faster than the eye can see to give themselves a serious edge in battle. Being too fast to hit is the best armor of all, most of all for characters who can keep pace with or even surpass the famed Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic is one quick character, but even he would fall behind when racing certain anime characters who have become speed incarnate. Some of those characters employ their dazzling speed in short bursts, such as ultra-rapid punches or leaps, while others can cross a long distance and maintain their unbelievable speed for quite some time. Some of those quick-moving characters pair their speed with astonishing strength as well, making them nigh-unbeatable in battle.

When Shrek 5 was first announced, the fan base went absolutely wild at the prospect of the beloved green ogre returning to our screens one more time. But when the first teaser for Shrek 5 was revealed, all of that optimism quickly shifted to horror. Shrek, Fiona, their daughter Felicia, Donkey, and Pinocchio have all been redesigned with "upgraded" animation, and fans have rallied against the new look, questioning why DreamWorks felt the need to alter the already beloved designs. And now Sonic the Hedgehog is joining the chorus on social media with a post targeting the newly redesigned Shrek.
One studio that knows a thing or two about fan backlash to character designs is Paramount, which altered the look of Sonic the Hedgehog's eponymous hero after fans fought against the initial "realistic" design, swapping it for something more video-game accurate. Now, with Shrek 5 on the chopping block,...

Gerard Butler says the upcoming live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon will be scarier than the animated counterpart, but in a good way and not in the uncanny valley horrific way that the original Sonic the Hedgehog design was. After Disney turned their animated classics into live-action blockbusters, DreamWorks Animation is now getting in on the action with a remake of How to Train Your Dragon. While the movie certainly looks to go for a different tone than the original film, original co-director and later solo director on the two sequels Dean Debois will return to direct the live-action movie with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast.
While speaking with The Direct, Butler spoke about how the live-action How to Train Your Dragon will differ from the original animated film:

Sonic the Hedgehog 3's post-credits scene contained a subtle nod to The Terminator, a reference that teases a major story element in the fourth movie. The story of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they go up against a new adversary in the form of Shadow, a black-and-red hedgehog intent on destroying the world. The film has become a global success at the box office, while also earning an 87% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing. Some of this praise includes acclaim for its ending and post-credits scenes.
The end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 sees Shadow working with Sonic to stop Gerald Robotnik from destroying the world with the Eclipse Cannon. Following the Ultimate Lifeform's apparent sacrifice, alongside that of Dr. Eggman, Team Sonic celebrate their victory with a family race. Believe it or not, Sonic the Hedgehog does have a father, and he's a far cry from what most fans would picture. This long-forgotten character has been cast aside over the years, but he made his debut in Archie Comics' continuity of the series and left a strong impression on readers. Even today, while he hasn't made an appearance in some time, Sonic's dad remains a fascinating figure from the franchise's history.
Sonic the Hedgehog #192 features a story titled "Father and Son", written by Ian Flynn with art by Jon Gray, in which Scourge the Hedgehog breaks into Sonic's house to kill him but finds a robot instead. Scourge initially mistakes him for a Metal Sonic, only for the robot to reveal that he is Sonic's father.

Paramount could’ve almost ruined one of their best franchises with a small mistake at the beginning. While adapting Sega Games’ popular character Sonic the Hedgehog, the studio initially went for a more realistic design. It looked awful and nothing like the adorable character from the video games. The box office race between Disney prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" and Paramount sequel "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" has only just begun, but it's not too early to call a winner. With opening weekend estimates in for both movies, "Sonic 3" is on track for first place with a $70.5 million debut, and "Mufasa" is trailing in a distant second place with $35 million, per The Wrap.
Widening the gap even further is the fact that "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" was made for a relatively conservative budget of $122 million, while "Mufasa: The Lion King" cost north of $200 million. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the Disney movie was put into production following the success of Jon Favreau's 2019 "live-action" remake "The Lion King," which retold the story of the animated classic using near-photorealistic lions. Though "The Lion King" 2019 was a box office hit -- grossing $191 million in its opening weekend, and more than $1.66 billion globally...

A new video for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 shows Jim Carrey dancing with himself as his two Sonic universe characters. Carrey is known for playing the live-action character Ivo Robotnik in the Sonic franchise films. This Sega adaptation series will soon continue with the December 20 release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will reunite Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails while also introducing the character of Shadow to this Sonic trilogy. In addition to Carrey, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 features a leading cast including Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Tika Sumpter, Tom Butler, Alyla Browne, and James Marsden.

Disney is releasing Mufasa: The Lion King in December and it’s starting to look like it will get beaten at the box office by Sonic 3. Both films open on the same day, December 20, 2024.
Disney has a live-action problem. With each film, its returns dwindle, and now the unthinkable may happen. According to early pre-ticket sales, a “Lion King” film could be beaten by a video game hedgehog. Of course, pre-ticket sales do not mean final numbers.
Fans are seemingly checking out from Disney’s endless live-action reimaginings of popular animated films. While “Lilo and Stitch” may still do well, it looks increasingly like “Snow White” will not. “The Little Mermaid” was heavily marketed, and it did not make much money after expenses.
It doesn’t help that fans feel the new “Mufasa: The Lion King” is “retconning” the original “Lion King” film by making Mufasa an orphan. In the original film,...

Disney has officially unveiled the first Lilo & Stitch teaser online, and it's exactly what fans had hoped it would be. Starring Chris Sanders reprising his voice role as Stitch, and franchise newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo, the upcoming remake is set to reimagine the beloved animated classic for modern audiences. The first footage unveils everyone's favorite blue creature at the beach, leaning into his "destructive tendencies" in a loose homage to the original Lilo & Stitch.
The Lilo & Stitch teaser released online ahead of Moana 2 heading to theaters later this week. The 30-second trailer includes Stitch acting out his best Godzilla impression and destroying a line of detailed sandcastles on the beach. Although the footage is missing one-half of the movie's title, it gives fans the best look at the visual style and overall vibe of the film. It's hard not to love how Stitch looks in "live-action,...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is right around the corner, and with it comes the introduction of a fan favorite character, Shadow the Hedgehog. Before Shadow was introduced, there were hints suggesting his arrival, and fans believe they may have spotted similar clues for another key character in the franchise.
A post on X, formerly known as Twitter, pointed out that Doctor Maddie Wachowskis outfit in the promotional material for the upcoming film was bright pink, which suggests that the next character to be introduced to the Sonic Cinematic Universe will be Amy Rose. The reason Maddies outfit could be a hint towards Amy the Hedgehogs introduction is that her outfits in the first two films were color coded to match the arrival of Tails and Shadow. In the first Sonic the Hedgehog, she wore yellow and blue, and Tails was introduced in the after-credits scene. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2,...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already teased its exciting post-credits scene, but this pattern is actually setting up a major problem for the franchise's future. The Sonic the Hedgehog movies have surprisingly become known for their post-credits scenes, with both of the movies that have been released so far featuring post-credits scenes that show off exciting new characters. It has already been confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 3's post-credits scene will be doing something similar, but this could end up creating an issue that the live-action movie series won't be able to fix.

Luckily, there has already been confirmation that a secret character will be appearing at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and there are tons of options.

2024 is gearing up to be the biggest year ever for the fan favorite Sonic the Hedgehog character, Shadow the Hedgehog. The recognizable and iconic anti-hero has been competing with his blue counterpart since 2001, when he was created for Sonic Adventure 2. Since then, Shadow The Hedgehog has expanded his story and appeared in games, shows, and other media across the franchise, including his own divisive spinoff video game, and has evolved into one of Sega's most popular characters.
This year, Shadow, known as the ultimate lifeform, will lead a new platforming experience from the Sonic Team alongside his titular rival in Shadow Generations, a parallel story bundled with a new remaster of the commercially successful Sonic Generations. A couple of months later, the powerful hedgehog will make his big screen debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, voiced by none other than iconic action star Keanu Reeves.

As we draw closer to the release date, anticipation is building for the upcoming theatrical debut of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The eponymous blue blur, Sonic the Hedgehog (Ben Schwartz), and his friends face a new threat in the upcoming sequel, the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves). Shadow is already one of the franchise's most popular characters, who even starred in one of his own self-titled video games, and the Sonic film series chose the perfect foil for Team Sonic in the third movie. Shadow the Hedgehog's arrival signals that Sonic 3 will be a cinematic event for fans of the franchise.

Shadow the Hedgehog is set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and it might show if Shadow is faster than Sonic and Knuckles. Although Shadow has only had a few seconds of screentime in the Sonic movies so far, he is the main villain of Sonic 3, with his powerful abilities making him a massive threat to the titular blue blur. By looking at Shadow's history in the games, comics, and other Sonic-related media, it can be guessed how powerful Shadow will be in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Shadow is the product of Project Shadow, an experiment put on by Gerald Robotnik in an attempt to discover immortality.

Sonic fans can look forward to Shadow's return, third movie, and classic games in 2024. Memorable quotes from Sonic games highlight Sonic's heroic nature and catchy catchphrases. Sonic's depth as a character shines through in moments of compassion and bravery in various games.
Sonic the Hedgehog fans have plenty to look forward to in 2024. With Shadow the Hedgehog returning with both Classic and Modern Sonic in Sonic X Shadow Generations and the third movie due to release in December, fans are quite literally drowning in content, like the blue menace himself without a life jacket. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 must change the franchise formula to avoid disappointment among fans of the Sega video game series. The upcoming film needs to focus on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as an ensemble cast rather than just Sonic alone. Giving equal focus to all three main characters will not only benefit the heroes but also allow for more development of the new antagonist, Shadow.
If Sonic the Hedgehog 3 wants to succeed, it needs to change the franchise formula in a big way to avoid a major disappointment. The first two live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies have been received well by fans of the Sega video game franchise, with it being mostly faithful to the elements that matter. However, the Sonic the Hedgehog movies have had a problem with balancing their fairly large casts, and if the upcoming third film wants to be better than its predecessors, then Sonic the Hedgehog 3...

I think Tails should have a bigger role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, after being sidelined during the second half of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Tails' technological skills could be crucial in the upcoming sequel, with him potentially learning how to control Space Colony Ark in the process. Tails' role could further develop in future Sonic movies as they face new threats that require his intelligence to take down.
Even though Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is going to be focused on introducing Shadow to the movie universe, I hope it can also give one character a bigger role after he was sidelined in the previous movie. The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is shaping up to be an exciting installment in the growing series, finally putting Shadow in the spotlight. Beverly Hills Cop and Shrek star Eddie Murphy once voiced the beloved 70s cartoon crimefighter Hong Kong Phooey, and test footage from the ill-fated live-action adaptation of the iconic Hanna-Barbera series has now resurfaced. Murphy, who is no stranger to voicing animated characters thanks to the likes of Donkey and Mulans Mushu the dragon, was cast as the live action Hong Kong Phooey back in 2011, with the project intending to use the same technique as Sonic the Hedgehog, realizing a CGI character in the real-world.
Produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and originally broadcast on ABC, Hong Kong Phooey took advantage of the huge popularity that martial arts, kung fu, and movies from Hong Kong saw during the 1970s in Hollywood. The live action outing would have been based on the cult classic cartoon series, which introduces audiences to a mild-mannered dog named Penrod "Penry" Pooch, who works as a janitor at the local police station.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 faces pressure to get Shadow's character right, just like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 faced high expectations with Knuckles. The franchise's impressive characterization of Knuckles inspires confidence that it will handle Shadow the Hedgehog's introduction with care. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 must find a way to differentiate Shadow's story from Knuckles' to keep things fresh, despite several inevitable similarities.
There's a lot of pressure for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to nail Shadow's character, but Paramount's previous movies already prove that they'll do the villain justice. Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe has seen massive success since the first movie's debut, with both films becoming the highest-grossing video game movie in North America at the time of their release. And although The Super Mario Bros. Movie has taken that title since, the Sonic movies remain solid adaptations of the beloved video games they're based on.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic characters in video game history. He's headlined multiple video games and his own movie series, with the final installment set to release in theaters this year. But he's also been a star in animated series, including Sonic X and Sonic Prime on Netflix. Sonic fans might remember that at the height of his popularity, the Blue Blur was the focus of two different animated series: Sonic the Hedgehog (1993) and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Not only did these two series have wildly different plots, but they sprung into existence due to failed plans to get a Sonic cartoon into syndication.

Idris Elba's Knuckles in the TV show fixes 14 years of mischaracterization and brings the echidna back on course. The Knuckles TV show perfectly captures Knuckles' warrior traits, legacy, and obsession with training in a way previous adaptations failed to do. Idris Elba's serious and fish-out-of-water Knuckles is the mainstream version the character should always be, ensuring future success.
The Knuckles TV show is out now, and one of the best things about the series is that Idris Elba's version of Knuckles has finally fixed the character after 14 years of mischaracterization.
