Fantastic Four's Galactus Actor Starred In A Horror Movie You Need To Watch
Image

Whatever problems "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" has with its portrayal of Galactus, none of them come from his actor Ralph Ineson. While Ineson's appearance is completely concealed inside Galactus' armor, his greatest strength as an actor is his deep, Yorkshire accented voice. That voice sounds like it should be coming out of a wrathful cosmic god like Galactus.

Ineson has been working as an on-camera actor since 1993, but he's had a career renaissance in the last decade. Before that, he was part of the cast in the U.K. version of "The Office" as Chris Finch (the counterpart to David Koechner's Todd Packer from the American version). In the late 2000s to early 2010s, he also had minor parts in the "Harry Potter" films (as the Death Eater Amycus Carrow), "Game of Thrones" (the Ironborn Dagmer Cleftjaw), and...

Alien: Earth Has A Shocking Number Of References To A Classic Fantasy Tale
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Alien: Earth" to follow.

The franchise may be called "Alien," but the face-hugging, chest-bursting, penis-headed little monsters have always only been half of the equation. Androids, from Ash (Ian Holm) in the 1979 original "Alien" to David (Michael Fassbender) in "Prometheus," have always been just as important to "Alien" as a property. The FX series "Alien: Earth" honors that tradition and explores different types of androids, too.

The first "Alien: Earth" episode's introductory text reveals that, in 2120, "the race for immortality will come in three guises." First, cyborgs, or humans enhanced with cybernetic parts. Second, androids, or beings who are completely synthetic in mind and body. Then, finally, hybrids, or human minds fully uploaded into synthetic bodies, "Ghost in the Shell" style.

"Alien: Earth" is all about the hybrids. The future of "Alien" has always been a corporatocracy, but...

A Beautiful $4,500 Feature: How a 23-Year-Old Made His Debut After 30 Festival Rejections
Image
A few weeks ago, Ted Hope published a list of “good films” made for under $300,000 on his Hope for Film Substack. While it doesn’t adjust for inflation, it’s a striking snapshot of more than 100 scrappy cinematic beginnings like “Clerks,” “Laws of Gravity,” and “River of Grass,” and a reminder that a low budget doesn’t mean low impact.

Thanks to Reddit, I stumbled across another low-budget debut: “Real Life,” a feature made by 23-year-old Dallas filmmaker Julian Sol Jordan. It took nearly three years to finish and he estimates the cost around $4,500 — the price of a camera, a tripod, and some pizza and beer for friends. It premiered on YouTube last month after being rejected by 30 festivals.

To be fair, “Real Life” ticks a lot of festival red-flag boxes: It’s a hybrid documentary made by a recent college grad about his post-grad existential crisis, resolved through… making...

Who Plays Galactus in ‘The Fantastic Four’? Meet the Man with the Booming Voice
Image
In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Marvel’s First Family faces off against the walking, talking, planet-eating Galactus for the first time — sort of. Though the cosmic devourer has appeared in a Marvel film before, Matt Shakman’s latest entry to the MCU marks the first time an actor has actually portrayed Galactus.

When the Fantastic Four meet Galactus, they are faced with a colossal man in purple garb with a tuning fork helmet. Despite the visual silliness of this character, his immense size and booming, theater-shaking voice immediately establish a threat unlike the Four have ever faced.

But who lent their voice to give Galactus such gravitas? Read on to meet the man behind the planet eater.

Who plays Galactus in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”

To play Galactus, Marvel Studios tapped Ralph Ineson, a Robert Eggers regular and rising horror icon known for “The Witch,” “The First Omen” and “Nosferatu.

How Ralph Ineson Went From a Nameless Pilot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to the Almighty Galactus in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’
Image
The moment Ralph Ineson’s towering stature enters into frame and his God-like voice is heard, the moviegoing audience knows they’re in particularly good hands.

Thus, The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman understood full well the type of gravitas he’d be receiving when he offered Ineson the role of Galactus, the planet-devouring demigod and recurring foe of Marvel’s first family. In the first hour of what is now the definitive live-action adaptation of The Fantastic Four, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) return home from an unsuccessful parley with the cosmic entity, and they are visibly shaken by the threat they just encountered, something Ineson’s performance conveyed with ease.

The Fantastic Four is not Ineson’s first foray into the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2014, he played a nameless Ravager...

Steven Soderbergh Recruits a ‘Lord of the Rings’ Icon, 86, in First Image From His Follow-Up to ‘Black Bag’
Image
Steven Soderbergh’s next filmThe Christophers is already making waves — and we now have our first look. The newly released image shows Michaela Coel and Ian McKellen in character as Lori Butler and Julian Sklar, respectively. McKellen, 86, appears to be embracing full “grizzled legend” mode, leaning against a battered doorframe in a rainbow-striped sweater, while Coel’s Lori watches him warily, suitcase in hand. The film, currently in post-production, marks Soderbergh’s follow-up to Black Bag and reunites him with longtime screenwriter Ed Solomon.

Described as a dark comedy, The Christophers centres on the estranged children of a once-famous artist who hatch a morally flexible plan: hire a forger to complete their father’s unfinished work and pass it off as discovered originals after his death. Yes, it’s art fraud with a Soderbergh twist — which means expect stylish plotting, morally compromised characters, and at least one monologue about capitalism.

‘Skeleton Crew’ Director, 43, Addresses Star Wars Return: “That Doesn’t Come Around That Much” [Exclusive]
Image
It’s been a big few months for Jake Schreier, who directed an episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew near the end of 2024 before kicking off summer 2025 with Thunderbolts*, the MCU hit that earned a “certified fresh” 88% from critics and a “verified hot” 93% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Schreier also directed Skeleton Crew Episode 5, “You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates,” which is the highest-rated episode of the series on IMDb. There have been whispers about a Skeleton Crew Season 2, but no concrete announcements have been made.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt caught up with Schreier recently to chat about Thunderbolts*, and they got onto the topic of his future in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Lovitt asked Schreier if he were to return to the Star Wars universe, would he be more interested in riding along and directing more episodes, or if he’d want to be in the...

Every A24 Movie Coming Out in 2025 and Beyond
Image
Editor’s note: this list was originally posted January 2025. It will be periodically updated to reflect new release date announcements.

It’s rare for a studio to become a brand, but A24 has managed it. Since its humble beginnings as a New York-based distribution company founded by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges in August 2012, A24 has become synonymous with quality for film lovers, the place that releases the must-see indies everyone is talking about.

A24’s first film was the little-seen and little-loved “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” from Roman Coppola, which hit theaters in February 2013 to muted fanfare. But the movie that really put the company on the map was “Spring Breakers,” Harmony Korine’s wild crime comedy that released in March that same year and established many of the conventions associated with the brand: Artful neon cinematography, shocking content and stylized violence,...

Anne Hathaway ‘Broke Down’ on A24’s ‘Mother Mary’ Set and Said: ‘I Have to Apologize Because I Think What’s Going to Come Out of Me Will Hurt You’
Image
Anne Hathaway opened up in a new Vogue cover story about the making of “Mother Mary,” the upcoming A24 music drama from director David Lowery. Co-starring Michaela Coel, the film stars Hathaway as a pop diva who flees her tour during an existential crisis and seeks out the old friend who helped craft her public persona. Not much else is known about the movie, although Lowery said “it felt like shooting ‘Apocalypse Now.'”

“At one point Annie broke down and said, ‘I have to apologize, because I think what’s going to come out of me will hurt you.’ And Michaela took her hands and said, ‘I love you, I trust you,’ ” Lowery remembered about shooting a climactic scene. “We were in various stages of that for about a week, shooting that scene.”

Coel said “David’s writing is so vivid” that “we were forced into an intensity.” The...

“Demented Flashbacks,” Unfinished Music and a “Very Weird Movie”: Anne Hathaway Reveals New Details on A24’s ‘Mother Mary’
Image
New details have emerged about David Lowery’s Mother Mary courtesy of a new Vogue cover story featuring its Oscar winning star Anne Hathaway.

The A24 film casts Hathaway as the title character, a pop star described as a Lady Gaga-meets-Taylor Swift hybrid who flees a tour and winds up seeking out an old friend and fashion designer (Michaela Coel) who helped shape her public persona. Based on interviews Vogue writer Maya Singer included in the piece, Mother Mary sounds like a challenging project for all involved, or at least “intense” per Singer who describes the (nearly) finished product as “a very weird movie.”

Much of the film “turns on the making of a dress, which is spectacular,” and most of the action finds Hathaway and Coel hanging out in a 13th century barn where those involved may have gone “temporarily, mildly insane,” Singer writes. There are “a...

Anne Hathaway Plays a Pop Star in ‘Mother Mary’ but Is ‘Grateful’ She Couldn’t Learn the Music in Advance
Image
Anne Hathaway had to shed her Oscar-winning musical background for David Lowery’s “Mother Mary.” The indie film, which centers on Hathaway’s pop star character, features original songs written by Charli Xcx and Jack Antonoff. While Hathaway did record the vocals for the tracks, the music was not finalized during the filming of “Mother Mary,” leading Hathaway to ad-lib the onscreen singing scenes.

“It was so confusing. I had to learn,” she told Vogue. “Because if I’d had the music a year before we ever turned a camera on, I would have tattooed every note of it on my soul, and there would have been a whole process, very specific. And that was not available to me. In the end. I am very grateful I could not take control.”

The “Odyssey” actress actually had to tap into relearning certain parts of acting. “I had to submit to being a beginner,...

Michael Gandolfini Battles Anxiety and a Hornet Allergy in Short Film ‘Tea’ — Watch
Image
For a rising filmmaker with a short to market, few honors are more important than being named a Vimeo Staff Pick. The program, which selects a notable short film every weekday, has honored filmmakers including Charlotte Wells, David Lowery, Ari Aster, the Daniels, and Josh and Benny Safdie since its inception in 2008. This month, writer/director Blake Rice joins that club with his short film “Tea.”

“Tea,” which premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and competed for the Short Film Palme d’Or, stars Michael Gandolfini as an allergy-laden man whose plans to ask his crush on a date unravel as he battles anxiety after being stung by a hornet. The film, which boasts Patty Jenkins as an executive producer, also stars Olivia Nikkanen, Matt Van Orden, and Zina Louhaichy.

Following the film’s debut at Cannes, “Tea” went on to screen at the Denver Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival,...

The Best Disney Live-Action Remake, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
In 2010, Disney scored an unexpectedly large hit with Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," a film that cost a sizable $200 million to make but which inexplicably raked in over a billion dollars worldwide. I say "inexplicably" because the film wasn't terribly well-liked by critics; it currently holds an unimpressive 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although it had the same title as Disney's 1951 animated film "Alice in Wonderland," it was more of a sequel than a remake, following Alice (Mia Wasikowsa) back into Wonderland after she had already become an adult. There, she found the fantasy kingdom had been split by war and violence, leading her to don a suit of armor and take up a sword to make things right.

Disney had remade some of its animated movies before, but "Alice" ushered in a new trend for the studio. Over the 15 years that followed, Disney re-milked its own properties with pointed aggression,...

This Underrated Live-Action Remake Is A Must-Watch For How To Train Your Dragon Fans
Image
Disney has been producing live-action remakes of some of their most beloved animated films for quite some time, but this practice has particularly dominated the studio's ambitions since 2010, when "Alice in Wonderland" grossed over $1 billion. Since then, we have had films of varying quality hit theaters, with a few highlights including "Cinderella" and "The Jungle Book," both showcasing their share of cinematic merits. But for the most part, films like "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," and "The Lion King" may have been $1 billion hits, but failed to add anything worthwhile to these beloved stories. Not to mention, returns are diminishing with recent releases such as Rob Marshall's "The Little Mermaid" and Marc Webb's "Snow White" failing to make waves financially, although the runaway box office smash that is "Lilo and Stitch" may breathe some life back into the practice, for better or worse.

Universal is the latest studio...

The How To Train Your Dragon Remake Completely Fails For One Key Reason
Image
This article contains spoilers for "How to Train Your Dragon."

Remakes tend to be a touchy subject. The very idea of someone tinkering with a beloved film causes some folks to immediately reach for their pitchforks. On one hand, their announcements can feel especially discouraging in a landscape where most movies emerging out of the studio system are in some way tied to an intellectual property. But at the same time, remakes can often present an opportunity to imbue a fresh, new perspective on a familiar tale. Good stories deserve to be retold because adaptations can lead to visual and/or thematic shifts that engage with the original text in interesting ways.

When we discuss the best remakes, these are often the ones that come up as beacons of this time-honored cinematic practice. They don't negate the existence of the originals, nor do they replace them, even if you don't care for the updates.

Natalie Portman-Produced French Animated Film ‘Arco’ Wins Annecy
Image
Arco, a French animated feature about of unexpected friendship and the fate of a world impacted by climate change, has won the Cristal for best film at this year’s Annecy film festival.

The feature debut of famed French illustrator Ugo Bienvenu, which premiered in Cannes and counts Natalie Portman among its producers, follows Arco, a 10‑year‑old boy from the year 2932 who inadvertently travels back in time, via a rainbow, to 2075, where he encounters Iris, a young girl living through environmental collapse. Their burgeoning friendship becomes a tender yet urgent bond across time, rooted in innocence, curiosity and shared heartbreak. In her rave Hollywood Reporter review, Lovia Gyarkye called Arco “a considered meditation on ecological disaster within the dulcet grooves of a charming story about adolescent friendship.”

Disney’s Unending Live-Action Adaptations Ranked, from ‘Snow White’ to ‘Mulan’ to ‘The Little Mermaid’
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in May 2023. It has since been updated to include new Disney remakes, including “Lilo & Stich.”]

To quote one of the best sitcoms ever: “Did you just double-dip that chip?”

If George Constanza was a real person — and the opinions of “Seinfeld” characters had any bearing on major movie slates — Disney CEO Bob Iger would be forced to answer in the affirmative some 20 times over thanks to his company’s buffet of CGI-laden remakes, sequels, and spin-offs. The entertainment giant has spat out scads of these so-called “revivals” of its animated classics in recent years, with critics routinely pointing out the bottom line motivating the mostly mediocre trend.

And yet, no matter how poor the reception, the Disney live-action revisits just keep coming. In 2025, fans were treated to “Snow White,” a remake of the company’s groundbreaking original film that bombed at the box office and (because no bad film can just be a bad film anymore) was at the center of intense right-wing blowback. “Lilo and Stitch...

Alex Garland To Direct Live-Action Elden Ring Movie Adaptation At A24
Image
Arise now, ye Tarnished — an Elden Ring movie is coming! Yes, after weeks of hushed whispers and grapevine rumours doing the rounds, Deadline is reporting — and Bandai Namco have confirmed — that FromSoftware's critically acclaimed, epic fantasy video game is getting the live-action film treatment in collaboration with A24. And, what's more, Alex Garland — yes, he of 28 Years Later, Annihilation, and Warfare fame — is heading into the Lands Between as writer-director on the ambitious project.

Created by Soulslike game guru Hidetaka Miyazaki from a story penned by Game Of Thrones godhead George R. R. Martin, Elden Ring is a sprawling dark fantasy with a deep bench of characters and even deeper lore. At its simplest level, the game sees the player assume the role of a Tarnished (a being once banished from and now returned to the mythic realm of the Lands Between), embarking on a quest to repair the...

Tilda Swinton, David Lowery team for an ‘anarchic whodunnit’
Image
Death In Her Hands will bring together Tilda Swinton and director David Lowery for a new whodunnit. More on the project here.

Tilda Swinton is a unique actor known for seeking out projects that challenge the artistic potential of cinema. (She also did Doctor Strange.)

Similarly, with films such as A Ghost Story and The Green Knight on his filmography, David Lowery often adopts the same approach as a director.

It’s intriguing then to see that See-Saw Films is backing Lowery’s next project, an ‘anarchic whodunnit’ called Death In Her Hands which will star Swinton in an adaptation of the cult novel by Ottessa Moshfegh.

Screen Daily broke the news, with Lowery describing the project as a ‘devious challenge’ to tackle. The filmmaker is currently in post-production on on the Anne Hathaway-starring Mother Mary, a movie that we’re hoping to see in 2025. Lowery has a particular...

Tilda Swinton is set to star in the psychological whodunnit Death in Her Hands
Tilda Swinton at an event for Amore (2009)
Tilda Swinton can recently be seen in Pedro Almodovar’s The Room Next Door with Julianne Moore. Our Alex Maidy found the film to be only adequate with his review stating, “The Room Next Door is as intriguing as all of Pedro Almodovar‘s films, but the move from Spanish to English betrays some of the gaps in the legendary filmmaker’s writing talents. Moore and Swinton are good, with the latter continuing to show her talents as a performer through physical presence, even more so than through speaking. This is not a film for everyone, but it shows that dying does not always have to be dark and that filmmakers like Almodovar can even find positivity and hope in sadness.”

Swinton implied that she’s ready for a break in her career, but that break won’t be coming too soon since The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that she...

Leos Carax, Albert Serra, David Lowery, Alexander Payne & More Plan Next Features
Image
Kicking things off with a small but enticing update, following last year’s incredible cine-memoir It’s Not Me, Leos Carax is finally prepping a 2026 shoot for his first narrative feature since Annette. While not much is known about the project, a casting call confirms Léa Seydoux and Adam Driver will star in the Paris-set feature. Speaking of Driver: he’s also set to soon shoot James Gray’s Paper Tigers, in which Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller stepped in for Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, respectively.

Last year, when we spoke to Albert Serra about his planned collaboration with Kristen Stewart for Out of This World, he seemed hesitant if the casting may come together and, indeed, it proved too good to be true. Variety now reports Riley Keough will lead the film alongside F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia. The film follows “an American delegation traveling to...

Swinton, who most recently led Pedro Almodóvar’s English feature debut “The Room Next Door,” will star as widow Vesta Gul, who may or may not have stumbled upon a crime scene. The character finds a handwritten note while walking in the woods, with the letter reading, “Her name was Magda. Nobody will ever know who killed her. It wasn’t me. Here is her dead body.” Yet without a corpse in sight, recluse Vesta becomes obsessed with solving the would-be murder.

The book’s official synopsis reads, “As her inner world begins to eclipse reality, the mystery of Magda threatens Vesta’s grip on her own life — until, in a spellbinding operatic climax, we realize that Magda’s death may finally allow Vesta to live.” The...

Video: Kesha Surprises Jennifer Hudson By Revealing Her Dreamgirls Role
Image
Before Kesha was known for her work on songs like Tik Tok and Right Round, she worked as an extra on the 2006 movie adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls. On a recent visit to The Jennifer Hudson Show, Kesha revealed to the Dreamgirls star that she worked on a scene in the film. "For like $120 dollars, for 16 hours, I sat there with my hair teased to the gods," the pop star explained to a shocked Hudson. "No offense, but I hated it...We were just an extra in a scene [in a] big auditorium in downtown L.A." As an actor, Kesha later went on to star in Jen and the Holograms, directed by Wicked's Jon M. Chu, and David Lowery's A Ghost Story. The...

'Monkey' Man Director Dev Patel Teams With A24 for New Medieval Action Film
Image
Following the tremendous success of his directorial feature, Monkey Man, English actor and director, Dev Patel, has set his sights on a new action film, one that will take him back to the Middle Ages. Dev Patel's The Peasant was confirmed to be in the works earlier this year. But, the film has finally landed a distributor, one which will make fans of Patel and the action genre very happy.

Deadline recently confirmed that The Peasant has been picked up for distribution by A24. The rapidly growing distribution and production studio behind action hits like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Warfare, acquired the rights to the film for a reported $30 million. With the deal only freshly penned, a release window for The Peasant hasn't been confirmed yet. The film is based off a script co-written by Dev Patel and Will Dunn, who wrote the final episode of the McU's Ms.

The Peasant | A24 lands Dev Patel’s new film
Dev Patel at an event for Chappie (2015)
Dev Patel is directing again with The Peasant, and A24 has picked up the film for distribution. More on the project here.

Last month we heard that Dev Patel will be following up his 2024 directorial debut Monkey Man with another action-focused movie: The Peasant, a medieval revenge thriller that sounds rather epic. It combines Arthurian elements with 1300s India and sees Patel adventuring across a colourful and dangerous land on a quest for retribution.

The Peasant will once again see Dev Patel both direct and star. It’s a revenge movie, by the sounds of things, with Patel’s shepherd hunting down a group of knights who “ransacked his community,” according to The Hollywood Reporter’s brief plot description.

References such as Braveheart, John Wick were promptly quoted to give us an idea of the direction that Patel is taking things in.

He’s also working with a Black List...

Dev Patel’s The Peasant picked up by A24
Dev Patel at an event for Chappie (2015)
Dev Patel’s second outing as director following Monkey Man, The Peasant, has officially been picked up by A24 for worldwide distribution in a deal that reports are pegging around $30 million.

The Peasant was part of the 2023 Black List, the annual survey of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Said screenplay is by both Patel and Will Dunn, who wrote the story and script for the final episode of Ms. Marvel. It seems as if the success of Monkey Man – which easily made back its budget and received wide acclaim – helped get it off of that list and into production. The Peasant is produced by Thunder Road Pictures.

As for plot details, the Black List had the following blurb for The Peasant: “In the 14th Century, a lone shepherd rages against a company of mercenary knights after they ransack his peaceful peasant community, proving that he is more than he seems.

Dev Patel’s Action-Thriller ‘The Peasant’ Snapped Up By A24 For Worldwide Rights On Eve Of Cannes Market
Image
Exclusive: Dev Patel’s revenge action-thriller The Peasant has been snapped up by A24 in a splashy deal on the eve of the Cannes market.

We understand the pact closed in the $30M range last night after a competitive situation. It’s a Cannes market low on buzzy action movies and this one has a unique premise and strong elements so was taken off the table by A24. It will be on sale for international territories going forward.

The 2023 Black List project is being described as having shades of Braveheart and John Wick as well as notes of King Arthur. After being updated by Patel, the script combines medieval knights with feudal India. Set in the 1300s, it centers on a shepherd who embarks on a rage-fueled campaign against a group of mercenary knights who ransacked his community, revealing himself to be more than he seems.

‘The Peasant’: Director Dev Patel & ‘Ms. Marvel’ Writer Working Together On Period Revenge Film Set In 1300s
Image
Thunder Road, the production company behind the “John Wick” franchise, is looking to reunite with actor and director Dev Patel on his ambitious new film “The Peasant” after the two collaborated on his energetic Indian-set action thriller “Monkey Man.”

The Hollywood Reporter shared the announcement that the new revenge story at Thunder Road and Fifth Season is set in the 1300s, taking inspiration from films like the aforementioned “John Wick,” Mel Gibson‘s Oscar-winning Scottish independence epic “Braveheart,” and elements of the King Arthur lore (Patel previously starring in the Arthurian flick “The Green Knight” for director David Lowery) being a mash-up of sorts combining medieval knights with feudal India.

Dev Patel To Follow Up 'Monkey Man' With Period Action Thriller 'The Peasant'
Image
After making his feature directorial debut with the action thriller Monkey Man in 2024, Dev Patel has set his sights on his next project, in which he will star, produce, and direct. According to a new exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Patel is set to work on The Peasant, described as a period piece and action thriller. Thunder Road, the production company behind the John Wick films, as well as Patel's first film, will return to produce the movie. However, there are no reports of other production companies being involved in his first work returning, such as Jordan Peele's MonkeyPaw Productions.

The same report describes The Peasant as a mixture of Braveheart and John Wick, with aesthetics and imagery similar to those of King Arthur. Patel's intentions of combining medieval knights and feudal India promise to create a unique feature film, especially with the director/actor producing through his own production shingle,...

The Peasant | Dev Patel to direct medieval revenge thriller
Dev Patel at an event for Chappie (2015)
Dev Patel looks to be combining elements from Monkey Man and The Green Knight for The Peasant. More here.

Anybody who’s seen David Lowery’s 2021 Arthurian adventure The Green Knight will know just how capable Dev Patel is at capturing the audience’s imagination as he travels through strange and mystical lands in search of adventure. Likewise, Monkey Man, Patel’s 2024 tilt at becoming an action star (and also a director) broadened his capabilities as a leading man.

In the newly announced The Peasant, it looks like the actor will be taking elements of both roles and fashioning them into a new role that – at this early stage – sounds fascinating.

The Peasant will once again see Patel both direct and star, this time in a tale set in 1300s India. It’s a revenge movie, by the sounds of things, with Patel’s shepherd hunting down a group of knights who “ransacked his community,...

Guy Ritchie’s Underrated Epic With This 'Sons of Anarchy' Star Returns To Streaming After 8 Years
Image
Over the years, numerous filmmakers have tried their hand at adapting the legendary tale of King Arthur, with varying degrees of success. David Lowery's The Green Knight, John Boorman's Excalibur, and Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur rank among the most acclaimed. However, other worthy entries exist, including Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), a bold and subversive take on the myth whose glorious destiny was sadly denied by a critical tongue-lashing and subsequent box office failure. While not without its flaws, Legend of the Sword was not nearly as bad as the critics deemed it, at least in the eyes of the fans. It has since been regarded as one of the most underrated Arthurian adaptations, and this May, Peacock is offering a new chance for audiences to appreciate Ritchie's daring vision.

Starring Charlie Hunnam in his first major role after Sons of Anarchy,...

Dev Patel To Write, Direct, And Star In Medieval Revenge Thriller The Peasant
Image
With his directorial debut, Monkey Man, Oscar nominated actor and former Skins star Dev Patel stunned cinemagoers with his chops as both an action filmmaker and an action star, serving up an Indian mythology infused revenge thriller filled with gnarly knife kills, kinetic camerawork, and exploding fish. Now, per THR's reporting, Patel is readying his sophomore directorial effort The Peasant — another revenge thriller, but this time centred around a rampaging shepherd and set in Medieval India. Naturally!

According to THR's sources, Patel's latest — on which he'll serve as writer, director, and star — takes cues from Braveheart, John Wick, and Arthurian legend to tell a feudal India set tale infused with Medieval knights. Set in the 14th century, The Peasant — which, it bears noting, existed in a previous form as a Blacklist featured Will Dunn screenplay about a Pope-connected shepherd in Italy — will see Patel star as an Indian drover squaring...

How ‘Snow White’s’ Magical Seven Dwarfs Stack Up Against Other CG Characters from Disney Live-Action Remakes
Image
Despite the controversy surrounding the seven dwarfs, the recently shuttered Mpc aimed to find the difficult sweet spot between painterly and photoreal in “Snow White,” translating them in a way that does justice to the hand-drawn aesthetic of Walt’s revolutionary debut feature from 1937. It’s shame that it’s one of the VFX studio’s last hurrahs, after working on the Oscar-winning “The Jungle Book” (2016), the Oscar-nominated “The Lion King” (2019), and the “Mufasa” (2024) prequel.

However, Mpc doesn’t stand alone. They followed Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” (2010), the first of the Disney live action remakes, which benefited from the tech achievements of Sony Pictures Imageworks, while Weta Digital created something iconic with the friendly dragon from David Lowery’s “Pete’s Dragon” (2016).

Let’s see how the dwarfs stack up against some of these other notable CG characters:

For “Snow White,” Mpc applied its photoreal animation skills...

Ben Foster & Laura Prepon Accuse Each Other Of ‘Cruel & Inhuman Treatment’ In New Divorce Filings
Image
Amid their tumultuous divorce, estranged couple Ben Foster and Laura Prepon have made allegations against one another for “cruel and inhumane treatment.”

On March 18, six months following their separation, Foster amended a divorce petition to accuse Prepon of “inappropriate marital conduct.” Foster had initially cited “irreconcilable differences” as the grounds for his and Foster’s divorce, but his amended petition alleges that he endured “cruel and inhuman treatment” from Foster, which rendered living with her “unsafe and improper.”

Prepon, one of the stars of Orange Is The New Black, responded the next day with the same accusation against Foster, adding he was “guilty of habitual drunkenness,” and asked for evidence of such inhuman treatment.

>Watch: Ben Foster & David Lowery Interview On ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,’ Rooney Mara

Foster’s petition requested that he and Prepon receive joint custody of their two children, asserting that both are “fit and proper” parents.

10 Disney Remakes Absolutely Nobody Asked For
Image
Disney’s live-action Snow White film is now in theaters, but it has been plagued with criticism and suspicion from film fans since its first trailer was released. Star Rachel Zegler’s questionable press tour and the…interesting CGI are just two of the ways in which the film has become the topic of countless internet memes.

So, in honor of the controversial film’s release, it may be useful to look at some of Disney’s most unnecessary live-action remakes. Not all of the entries on this list have been critically panned, but they have all suffered from their parent company’s efforts to further capitalize on well-established characters, which has stoked fatigue amongst moviegoers.

Cruella Completely Ruins One of Disney’s Most Villainous Characters Released in 2021

Some die-hard Emma Stone supporters may be horrified to see this entry on the list, which is understandable, especially given that fans...
