Enigma Black Stage Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Is Aijin Dead Or Alive?
Image
The literal translation of the word “enigma” is a person or a subject that is so mysterious that it is beyond human understanding. It resists simplified interpretations; always remains elusive— and just when you think you have grasped at its hem, it pulls itself away from your grasp. It is almost effervescent, a concept that exists to deny itself. The final episode of Enigma: Black Stage fully embodies the elusive mystery of the word—in the sense that the previous episode already gave us an ending: Plengpin won the contest. She was just about to take the stage in the phenomenal Bu Nga Phamon dress and bedazzle everyone, but it escaped from her grasp.

Enigma: Black Stage Episodes 3-4 Recap: Who Is Madame Kosum?
Image
Enigma: Black Stage may seem like a show that deals with magic, sorcery, and a little bit of science—making it a perfect cocktail of modern-day magical realism—but as the episodes progress, the allegorical significance of the show intensifies. The show revolves around a reality show where participants are competing to be cast in a play—where they get the chance to win and wear a phenomenal, talismanic dress. Each round has eliminations—with one person being eliminated after every round based on how they perform the text’s poetry. Episode two ended with Anya’s murder—which came as a shock right after she decided to team with Aijin and Plengpin. As more time passes, the show is becoming a stage where the contestants are like puppets, with strings being pulled by an entity from the dark. In this article, let’s check out what happens in episodes...

Enigma Review: Two Icons, Two Strategies for Survival
Image
Documentaries often seek to uncover a single truth, but Zackary Drucker’s Enigma presents something far more potent: a story about two truths, two lives, and two radically different strategies for survival. The film introduces us to a pair of women whose paths allegedly began at the same revolutionary Parisian cabaret, Le Carrousel, in the 1950s.

On one side stands April Ashley, the pioneering model who lived a life of radical transparency, becoming a celebrated activist for trans rights. On the other is Amanda Lear, the glamorous disco queen and artist’s muse, a woman who has spent a lifetime wrapping her origins in a thick cloak of mystery. Enigma does not just recount their histories; it places them in direct dialogue, exploring the profound power each woman found in controlling her own narrative in a world that sought to write it for them.

Deadline previously told you that BlacKkKlansman Oscar winner Kevin Willmott is already set to write.

In addition to Hyde Park Entertainment and Skydance Sports producing together, Warner Music Group is securing the music and providing creative guidance to the production, the pic planning to include singles of the era from such artists as Aretha Franklin, Prince, Curtis Mayfield and others.

‘The Last Anniversary’ Finale Ending Explained: Is Grace Okay?
Image
The Last Anniversary’s ending feels like a warm hug on a winter morning. The finale is not as gut-wrenching or heartfelt as I’d imagined, but I still enjoyed it, and it definitely gives us all the answers we’ve been waiting for, so there’s really not much to complain about. The 6-part TV show dives deep into the struggles of womanhood and how, despite decades passing, some things still remain the same. Whether it be Margie’s relationship with Ron, Grace’s feelings towards Ollie, or Sophie’s entire life, we’re reminded at every instant that it’s just not fun being a woman. However, this final episode makes all that fade away by reminding us that what we really need is family and female friendship to sustain us. I kind of love that, you know? Anyway, with that said, I’ll dive straight into the ending of The Last Anniversary.

‘The Last Anniversary’ Episode 6 Recap: Who Is Enigma’s Mom?
Image
At the end of The Last Anniversary’s finale, it finally feels like the women of Scribbly Gum Island have taken back what is theirs. It’s certainly a satisfying ending because we get all the answers we’ve been missing, but I can’t help but feel a little bit disappointed by it at the same time. Maybe because of how it plays out, super straightforward? There is that one major twist in the final episode, which definitely shocked me. I’m personally very happy with the way things turned out for Sophie and Grace. I hope they can be best friends for many years to come, and I’m so glad that Sophie’s finally found a family of her own, even if it is very unconventional. But, with that said, I will not waste any more time, let’s dive straight into episode 6.

Barriss to Beq: 5 more characters who deserve to be in Tales of the Jedi
Image
The anthology series Tales of the Jedi is a wellspring of potential storytelling. While we’ve already covered different characters who could be featured in the series, there are still plenty of potential candidates from every era. Sticking with the prequel and Imperial era from Season 1, here are 5 more characters who would be fantastic additions to Tales of the Jedi.

1. Barriss Offee

A huge question mark of a character coming out of The Clone Wars is Barriss Offee. She is a character fans have been asking about since her last full appearance in Season 5 of the series. Pretty much anytime a mysterious new character or Inquisitor pops up, especially around Ahsoka Tano, the speculation mill starts to churn. She was a good friend to Ahsoka which is why Barriss' turn was so shocking.

This friend-turned-enemy is exactly what needs to be explained. It’s a big jump from The Clone...

‘The Last Anniversary’ Episode 5 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Is Rose?
Image
I did call The Last Anniversary a predictable show, but there’s still some satisfaction in knowing that my predictions were right. But there’s one thing I’m still unable to understand: why Rose hates Sophie so much. Does she remind her of Alice, or does she remind her of herself? Meanwhile, we see Veronika and Sophie come through in this episode, finally finding the answers they’ve been looking for this whole time. Maybe that’s why Rose didn’t want Sophie around, because she knew she’d reopen old wounds. On the other hand, we see Grace really push the idea of Callum and Sophie together because she feels helpless when it comes to Ollie. It would be interesting if Grace let Sophie have Ollie, but I think that would have adverse long-term effects. We’ll just have to wait and see if she’ll end up being the cool aunt.

‘The Last Anniversary’ Episode 4 Recap & Ending Explained: Did Enigma Find Her Family?
Image
There’s something very predictable about The Last Anniversary, yet it still keeps you watching because of its ensemble cast and the way the story plays out. Rather than the mystery, I think the main point is to focus on individual women and what each of their dilemmas is. Also, I think I’ve figured out what Rose is hiding, but I’ll get into that a bit later. This episode shows Enigma standing up for herself and her family to show everybody that she genuinely cares. On the other hand, Grace is planning something big that nobody has any idea about, and though Callum notices that she’s not having the best time being a mom, he isn’t able to figure out how to help her. I suppose this means that whatever happens in the next episode is going to be huge, at least for Grace. Also, Rose...

‘The Last Anniversary’ Episode 3 Recap: Is Enigma A Monster?
Image
At the end of episode 3 of The Last Anniversary, Grace tells Sophie and Callum a heartbreaking story about her mom. I suppose, really, there are two sides to this story. One is the mystery behind Enigma’s parents’ disappearance, or well, her mom and uncle’s disappearance, and the other is just generational trauma for all the women on the show. I’m quite confused about what’s going on with Rose here, though. I don’t know if it’s just her being mad about Connie leaving her house to Sophie or just Connie being dead. I’m really not sure. The poster of the show is quite interesting because in it, we see Grace facing away from the camera and Veronica, Sophie, and Rose hugging her tightly. Sophie has an almost terrified expression combined with a hint of sadness, but I’m not able to figure out what...

Decades later, this baby is now a grown woman, but one of the sisters, Connie, dies from old age. What she leaves behind is some mystery and a lot of women who have to find their way in the world. Will they be able to? The basic premise of this show is super mysterious, but in truth, it’s a family drama about motherhood, trauma, and the lives of women in different situations, as their lives are intertwined and connected. It’s an exciting show with just 6 episodes and a mystery at its heart. What happened to the parents of that baby? Who were the parents of that baby? And did we have the story wrong this whole time? The Last Anniversary Review: A Bold Adaptation of a Literary Classic
Image
The series, an adaptation of a bestselling novel, opens a portal into an enigmatic narrative where literary mystique meets the suspense of concealed legacies. Centered around freelance journalist Sophie Honeywell, the story unfurls as she unexpectedly inherits a house on Scribbly Gum Island—a locale as captivating as it is shrouded in quiet enigma. The narrative unfolds along two intertwined threads: the unmasking of deep-seated family enigmas and the pursuit of a decades-old mystery surrounding the Baby Munro case.

This adaptation crafts an atmosphere that delicately balances moments of tender human connection with an undercurrent of mystery. The island itself emerges as a silent yet potent character, its isolated beauty juxtaposed with the shadow of long-kept secrets.

Themes of belonging and personal reinvention surface as characters confront the remnants of familial legacy, each encounter rippling with the weight of unspoken histories. Here, relationships are sculpted in the interplay of past and present,...

‘Enigma’ Review: A Fascinating Portrait of Two Trailblazing Transgender Legends
Image
With “Enigma,” director Zackary Drucker (“The Stroll”) makes another intriguing film about trans history. From the sidewalks of New York, this time she takes the audience to glamourous Parisian

nightclubs and the fringes of British aristocracy to tell the story of Amanda Lear and April Ashley. The film is a straightforward chronological documentary relying on archival footage and media interviews from that era. Most fascinating is Drucker’s interview with Lear, which gives “Enigma” much-needed tension and conflict to balance out the conventionality of the rest of the proceedings.

Dubbed the “white queen of disco,” Lear was a famous performer and celebrity in the 1970s, while Ashley started as a model and became a pioneer of trans rights advocacy in her native Britain. According to Ashley, on whose book and recollections most of the film is constructed, they met as showgirls in the late 1950s in the Parisian cabaret Le Carrousel.

Jeannot Szwarc, Director of ‘Somewhere in Time’ and ‘Jaws 2,’ Dies at 87
Image
Jeannot Szwarc, the French-American director who helmed the movies Somewhere in Time and Jaws 2 and multiple episodes of shows including The Practice, Smallville and Grey’s Anatomy, has died. He was 87.

Szwarc died Tuesday of respiratory failure at Central Hospital in Loches, France, his son Sacha Szwarc, a film editor, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jane Seymour, who starred alongside Christopher Reeve in the 1980 time-traveling romantic fantasy Somewhere in Time, said on Facebook that the role changed her career.

“Jeannot Szwarc was not just a brilliant director but a kind and generous soul,” she wrote. “He gifted us many timeless stories, including Somewhere in Time, a film that changed my life forever. May his memory be a blessing, and may his artistry live on in our hearts.”

His other film credits included the Martin Sheen-starring Enigma (1982), the Helen Slater-starring Supergirl (1984) and Santa Claus (1985), starring David Huddleston and Dudley Moore.

David Lynch was a master of the surreal, the macabre, the hallucinogenic — and the very ordinary
Image
David Lynch, the visionary filmmaker who died Thursday at 78, months after revealing he had been diagnosed with emphysema as a lifetime smoker, was such an essential figure in the history of cinema that he had his own adjective: Lynchian. The term describes works that share characteristics with some of his most memorable creations.

Lynch’s work was unmistakable. “I loved David’s films. Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and Elephant Man defined him as a singular, visionary dreamer who directed films that felt handmade,” Steven Spielberg, who cast Lynch to play John Ford in The Fabelmans, said in the aftermath of his friend’s death. It’s a sentiment shared widely on social media over the last several hours.

In movies like 1986’s Blue Velvet, 1997’s Lost Highway, and 2001’s Mulholland Drive — not to mention the 1990s ABC TV drama Twin Peaks — Lynch portrayed a mundane America of seemingly pastoral splendor undercut by stupefaction and terror.

Sorry, Hulk - Marvel Kicks Off 2025 With a New Hero As Its Official "Most Powerful Person in Existence"
Image
Few things remain static in the ever-changing world of the Marvel Universe, but it's usually a pretty sure deal that Hulk will remain the strongest hero on the publisher's books - however, as 2025 begins, that's no longer the case. Late in 2024, an X-Men hero surpassed Hulk as Marvel's strongest hero, and their first official act in the position is taking down Thanos.

A Founding X-Men Hero Is Now Marvel's "Most Powerful Person in Existence" From Superhero to God to Something Even More Powerful

In Phoenix #5 by Stephanie Phillips, Alessandro Miracolo, Marco Renna, Cory Petit and David Curiel, founding X-Men hero Jean Grey encounters Eternity, the living embodiment of Marvel's reality. The series sees Jean Grey take off on a cosmic Odyssey to come to grips with her newly potent bond with the Phoenix Force, stretching her wings as a godlike being. However, Eternity corrects Jean, insisting that she...

Marvel Unveils Ultron's Ultimate Form Which Makes Thanos Look Like a Joke
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Ultimates #8 ahead!

Ultimate Marvel just namechecked the most powerful version of Ultron ever, vaulting the Avengers antagonist up the publisher's power rankings – and in the process, honestly continuing the trend of making Thanos look small time, in comparison to some of the overly-strong cosmic characters that have been introduced to Marvel canon over the past several years.

The Ultimates #8 – written by Deniz Camp, with art by Juan Frigeri – contains a passing reference to "the Ultron Dominion," which will stand out especially to fans of the X-Men franchise's Krakoan era.

The last five years of X-lore established Dominions, incredibly powerful artificial intelligences that exist outside time and space, as the most powerful forces within the Marvel Universe. Now, it is confirmed that in at least one timeline, the villainous robot Ultron was able to achieve Dominion status, radically changing his role in the Marvel Multiverse.

The Avengers may be known as Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but Marvel's new Guardians of the Galaxy just made it clear they're not even in the running. Before being traded to the New York Jets, Rodgers was a Packer for 18 years, starting in Green Bay for the last 15 years of that stretch. Taking over from Brett Favre, Rodgers shot to stardom when he led Green Bay to victory in Super Bowl...

Why Aaron Rodgers Left The Green Bay Packers After 17 Years In 2022
Image
As depicted in the Netflix docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback left the Green Bay Packers after playing there for nearly two decades. Aaron Rodgers: Enigma chronicles Rodgers' experience after being sidelined with an Achilles injury for the entire 2023-24 NFL season in the highly-anticipated season-opening game against division rivals, the Buffalo Bills. The docuseries was released exclusively on Netflix on December 17, 2024.

Aaron: Rodgers Enigma depicts the Qb's transition from the Green Bay Packers, who he played 17 seasons for and led to a Super Bowl victory in 2010, to the New York Jets. Rodgers returned for the current 2024 NFL season but has found little success with his new organization, which fired their head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season (they are 4-10 at the time of writing and have no path to the playoffs). Rodgers also orchestrated a reunion with former Packers' standout Devante Adams,...

There’s No Big Mystery in ‘Aaron Rodgers: Enigma’
Image
Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, a new Netflix docuseries about the great and apparently greatly misunderstood NFL quarterback, begins with a tattoo. After the Green Bay Packers trade him in early 2023 to the New York Jets, Rodgers decides to change his jersey number from 12 to 8, which in turn inspires him to get the tat: a dragon eating its own tail while curled into the shape of an infinity symbol.

“Eight sideways is infinity,” Rodgers explains as his left biceps is inked. “So, definitely wanted the infinity symbol. Then I woke up...

Aaron Rodgers Speaks Out on Estranged Brother, Blasts ‘Stupid Show’ The …

Aaron Rodgers has a lot to complain about at the moment.

His New York Jets are 4-10 and certain to miss the NFL playoffs, and his ex-girlfriend Shailene Woodley is finally opening up about their toxic relationship.

And Aaron’s not known for his sunny disposition even when things are going well, so you can bet that he’s especially grumpy these days.

Yes, the future Hall of Famer has a long history of sullenness, and he opens up about some of his past problems in a new Netflix docuseries entitled Aaron Rodgers: Enigma.

Aaron Rodgers: Enigma Review — Insightful with Bias
Image
Watching the new Netflix sports docuseries Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, I reflected on how the media has changed this century. It’s a funny thing. Journalists and reporters demand genuine, honest conversation, yet we live and die by search engine optimization. However, we live in an age where we reduce soundbites to the point where we no longer care about their accuracy.

Today, we cut up what transpires in a one-on-one conversation or press conference into something that never reflects the actual intent. The days of Edward R. Murrow are gone, replaced by bloggers and social media darlings. While watching Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, you can genuinely feel for the man, but he often puts his foot in his mouth without showing true humility.

10 Forgotten Shonen Jump Manga That Deserve A Second Chance
Image
Shōnen Jump has long since made a name for itself as the biggest manga magazine in the world. Not only has it consistently had the highest circulation of any manga magazine in Japan, but it’s birthed some of the most iconic manga of all time like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, so there’s no denying how big it is to the world of anime and manga.

Some of history’s most iconic manga came out of Shōnen Jump, but that can’t be said for every one of their works. In addition to Shōnen Jump manga that were canceled too soon, some manga, even when they do get a chance to tell their stories properly, never leave much of an impact on people, so whatever the case, plenty of great Shōnen Jump manga were unceremoniously forgotten due to how little impact they left during or after their runs.

The Man Who Loved UFOs Review: An obsession-fuelled surreal odyssey
Image
The Man Who Loved UFOs tells the adventurous story of José de Zer, an Argentine TV journalist in the 1980s driven by obsession to uncover the truth about extraterrestrials. Directed by Diego Lerman, the film centers around a notorious episode from de Zer’s career where he stirred up nationwide interest after investigating alleged UFO sightings in rural Cordoba.

Played captivatingly by Leonardo Sbaraglia, de Zer approaches any strange phenomenon with zealous enthusiasm. When locals pitch him reports of weird activity in the mountains, he eagerly sets off with cameraman Chango to find answers. But de Zer’s methods become increasingly questionable as he begins fabricating evidence to sensationalize the story.

The film explores de Zer’s fixation and whether his experience was real or merely the effects of stress. It also examines how far he went spreading tales for fame and ratings. Was he seeking truth or simply caught...

Lady Gaga’s Secret Late-Night Performance at L.A.’s Belasco Was Bonkers — and One of the Best Things She’s Ever Done
Image
Can a set of show tunes and Great American Songbook standards, rendered with a healthy measure of respect and virtuosity, also be a punk-rock show? Or at least something that kinda/ sorta feels like one?

That basic question arose over the course of seeing Lady Gaga’s secret post-midnight performance at downtown L.A.’s movie-palace-turned-music-club, the Belasco. There are surely a few performers out there who have a feel for both the classics of the Broadway/movie-musical era and raw-power rock ‘n’ roll. They just don’t exist at anywhere near the superstar level, and even in a more niche world, they probably know better than to try to combine these extremely different ethos. Lady Gaga, thankfully, does not know any better. After catching Monday night’s show, I’m happy to report that she is the woman who can marry the controlled genius of Tin Pan Alley and...

Why Professor X Is Now Considered a Villain in X-Men Lore
Image
The disgraced founder of the X-Men, Professor Charles Francis Xavier, was introduced as a wise and beloved mentor to the original five X-Men, but over the years he has experienced a profound fall from grace. From being considered a terrible father to his son Legion, to secretly getting a team of young mutants murdered, Xavier has a whole slew of sins inside him. Now considered a monstrous villain, by both humanity and mutantkind, Xavier's time as de facto leader of Krakoa's Quiet Council led to the Professor's final fall, a place he might never recover from.

In a secret attempt to defeat Orchis and Enigma, Xavier "betrayed" the X-Men by siding with Orchis and murdering a number of humans, and act that horrified humanity as well as his mutant students. This was later revealed to be a fake out crafted by Charles himself to keep his precious X-Men safe,...

Netflix Snags Aaron Rodgers Doc Amid Flurry of Sports Series Pickups
Image
One of the NFL’s biggest names is getting the Netflix sports treatment.

Aaron Rodgers, a four-time league Mvp and quarterback of the New York Jets, will be the subject of a three-hour docuseries on the streamer. Aaron Rodgers: Enigma is set to premiere Dec. 17 — eight days before Netflix takes its biggest leap into live sports with two NFL games on Christmas Day (though neither one involves the Jets).

The Rodgers series is one of several sports projects Netflix announced Monday: It has also picked up a third season of Full Swing, which follows golfers on the PGA Tour, and ordered a new slate of documentaries under the Untold banner. Among the subjects for the latter in 2025 will be the notorious locker-room gun incident involving Washington Wizards players Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton; the beef and cheating accusations between chess grandmasters Hans Niemann and Magnus Carlsen; and a steroid scandal...

Rings of Power Took a Major Risk With Tom Bombadil and We Are Glad They Made Him Different from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings
Image
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power series produced by Amazon thrives as an extraordinary precursor to Lord of the Rings (Lotr), one of the most iconic franchises. The series has taken the world by storm with its star-studded cast and imaginative writing.

Rory Kinnear is one of the most fascinating additions in the second season. He plays Tom Bombadil, who is depicted vaguely in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original book. Though the show’s portrayal of the character is very different from its original perspective, fans have mostly loved the performance.

The Bombadil reboot: Rings of Power brought new life to the mysterious character

At first, it seemed that fans were uncertain if the producers would give this ambiguous character justice considering he featured sparingly in the books. However, Rory Kinnear’s Tom Bombadil took a different direction while still retaining the essence of its original form.

New Indie Distributors Test Market With Buzzy Sundance Film ‘Good One’, Iain Glen In ‘The Last Front’ – Specialty Preview
Image
Iain Glen, Ser Jorah Mormont in Game Of Thrones, is feisty as ever as a family man facing down the tumultuous start of World War I in The Last Front by Belgian filmmaker Julien Hayet-Kerknawi, the first release by his new indie label Enigma. It opens on 250 screens.

Metrograph Pictures is out with Good One, its first title since expanding into theatrical releasing under the leadership of former A24 executive David Laub. The debut feature by India Donaldson has great reviews at 96% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes and starts in limited release on three screens in New York and LA.

The theatrical market is pretty complicated right now and original independent films have fewer champions. These new indie distributors — and there are others — see a necessity and a business proposition in nurturing them.

“There is still very much an audience for these movies when they are really good,” Laub tells Deadline.

Some Major Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Details Have Been Revealed By An Unlikely Source
Image
This article contains (likely) spoilers for "The Rings of Power" season 2.

Soundtracks are a big part of what brings a story to life — nowhere more than in Middle-earth. Howard Shore's award-winning score for Peter Jackson's trilogy is an iconic part of the "Lord of the Rings" experience. Bear McCreary's musical compositions for Amazon Studios' "The Rings of Power" series, while newer, are already a fantasy staple, as well. They're also a body of work that is about to get a lot bigger when season 2 arrives on August 29, 2024.

In preparation for the new music, the streaming studio released the 25 names of the songs that will be on the digital track list, which will be released for fans' listening pleasure on August 23, six days before the season premieres. With so many titles, it's no surprise that there are also some light spoilers in the mix. This isn't anything new.

‘Dark Match’ Review: Wrestling with Satan (and Chris Jericho) in a Fun, Retro-Flavored Exploitation Blowout
Image
There have been no lack of enthusiastically cheesy movies in which protagonists get kidnapped or hoodwinked into fighting competitions where the stakes turn out to be life or death. Adding an extra layer of retro 1980s wrestling-world Velveeta to that formula is “Dark Match” from Lowell Dean, whose horror comedy “Wolfcop” a decade ago became enough of a cult fave to generate a sequel.

There are Satanists involved in his latest enterprise, too, but the writer-director maintains just enough of a straight face that this luridly colorful action thriller avoids turning into too much of a campy joke at its own expense. Not exactly highbrow fare, but also smarter than it looks, it’s a droll and lively chunk of retro schlock sure to please genre fans well beyond its Fantasia Fest premiere.

Entering tonight’s arena — such as it is — to Canadian rock band Trooper’s Queen-like rawk anthem “Raise a Little Hell,...
