It's been an up-and-down couple of weeks for Netflix shows. We've seen some big renewals, including The Perfect Couple, Beauty in Black, Xo, Kitty, and Running Point. But, the biggest news was the shocking cancellation of The Recruit starring Noah Centineo.
We knew The Recruit might be in trouble way back at the end of 2024 when Netflix confirmed the show's second season would premiere one week after The Night Agent season 2. Things looked good for The Recruit out of the gate, but Netflix made the disappointing decision to cancel the show after two seasons. The series only lasted two weeks on the Netflix Top 10 shows list in the United States.
After Netflix canceled The Recruit, we started looking at some of the other Netflix shows that could be in trouble after The Recruit was canceled. Overall, the list of Netflix shows still waiting for renewal isn't that long, but the...

In May 2022, exactly a month after the first season of Heartstopper premiered on Netflix, the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama received a rare two-season renewal by the streamer. Almost five months after Season 3, the last of the two installments under that deal, dropped on Oct. 3, there is still no word from Netflix on the future of Heartstopper as another half-hour series, No Good Deed, also awaits a renewal decision two and a half months after its Netflix debut.
The streamer’s semi-annual What We Watched viewership data report released today provides more context to the series’ performance beyond Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankers that may be factoring into the renewal conversations.
Season 3 of Heartstopper amassed 10.9M views from its Oct. 3 release until the end of 2024 to rank #130 among all of Netflix’s programs from June to December last year, according to the report. The show spent two weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10, peaking at #4, vs.

The future of Heartstopper at Netflix is still uncertain, as Alice Oseman shared an update on the status of Season 4.
Kit Connor’s Nick and Joe Locke’s Charlie love story is based on a graphic novel series of five volumes, with Oseman writing a final volume to conclude the series.
The third season of the Netflix series took elements from the third volume, but the streamer has not officially commissioned a fourth season yet, something Oseman is working on.

Since Heartstopper season 3 dropped on Netflix back in October 2024, it's been relatively silent as far as a season 4 renewal is concerned. As Joe Locke entered the MCU in Disney+'s Agatha All Along and Kit Connor starred in Romeo & Juliet on Broadway alongside Rachel Zegler, fans have been growing concerned about what the future could hold for the beloved teen series.
While Netflix has announced the renewals and cancellations of many of its other original series, Heartstopper's fate hasn't yet been revealed. With the sixth and final volume of creator and author Alice Oseman's graphic novel on the way, fans are wondering whether Netflix will give one last season of the Emmy-winning teen drama to tell the full story of Nick and Charlie.

The team behind Heartstopper is still working hard to secure Netflix’s planned fourth and final season order. Since season 3 dropped back in early October 2024, all has been quiet on the future beyond Alice Oseman’s well-publicized statements about intentions for season 4. This week, we got a new update on what’s happening behind the scenes with Oseman sharing that she’s “optimistic” and “hopeful”.
Oseman has been vocal about her hopes for a final season at Netflix to conclude the story. As of September 2024, she was working on the sixth and final volume of the Heartstopper graphic novel series and has expressed a desire for the book to be released before any potential fourth season airs, ensuring that readers experience the story’s conclusion in its original format first. Netflix’s teen romance-drama Xo, Kitty has slowly cropped up on the streaming’s top 10 with its mix of youthful energy, heartfelt relationships, and cultural exploration. Created by Jenny Han and sold as a spin-off of the very popular To All the Boys Series, Season 2 of Xo, Kitty dives even deeper into the life of Kitty Song Covey. This time, Kitty returns to the Korean Independent School of Seoul (Kiss) after her first year ended in chaos—complete with romantic betrayals, a cheating scandal, and an emotional breakup with her boyfriend, Dae. But it doesn’t end there. Season 2 introduces an even more complicated love triangle (or maybe pentagon?) as Kitty wrestles with her feelings for Yuri, deals with Min Ho’s confession, and navigates life under the shadow of her late mother’s history.
Xo, Kitty is essential about finding yourself, stumbling through adolescence, and chasing love, no matter how messy.

The Netflix series Heartstopper has been universally praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ youth and serious teen issues, including Charlie's disorders in season 3. Based on the graphic novels of the same name by Alice Oseman, the British series premiered in 2022, and though Heartstopper boasts a talented ensemble cast, it primarily revolves around the romantic relationship between schoolmates Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke).
While Nick is bisexual, Charlie is gay and was publicly outed before the events of the show. One of Heartstopper's most likable characters, Charlie is defined by his kindness, empathy, and sensitivity. Unfortunately, his sensitivity and his sexual orientation make him the target of bullying. Though Charlie has grown to stand up for himself, this bullying is detrimental to his mental health, and his disorders are explored in full, thoughtful detail in Heartstopper season 3.

While Imogen Heaney's early storylines in Heartstopper centered on her romantic involvement with boys, a season 3 interaction with Sahar left Imogen's sexuality less clear. Based on the beloved webcomic series by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper is a beloved coming-of-age British Netflix series centered around the romance between schoolmates Charlie and Nick. Supporting them in the Heartstopper cast is an ensemble of LGBTQ+ teen characters.
Imogen stands out as being one of the only "straight" characters amongst the core teens. Much of season 1 revolves around her crush on Nick, though she is understanding when he breaks the news that he isn't attracted to her. The beginning of Heartstopper season 2 sees Imogen dating Ben, which everyone knows is a bad idea after his toxic behavior toward Charlie. Imogen eventually breaks up with him, leaving her storyline up in the air until an interaction with Sahar changes everything, particularly the romantic trajectory for Heartstopper's self-described "ally.

Heartstoppercreator Alice Oseman knows fans are hoping for more Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) on their television following the Season 3 premiere on Oct. 3. Oseman feels the same way: as the writer of the original graphic novels, and executive producer and showrunner of the beloved YA show, they are excited for what comes next, and eager to tell that story.
“In terms of the show, obviously there is more story in the books that we have yet to cover, and we would love to tell the end of the story in TV form,” they tell Tudum. Charlie and Tori Spring were initially introduced in Heartstopper as a pair of siblings. But longtime fans of the popular graphic novel are well aware that they were one brother short: Oliver Spring.
Fans initially questioned Alice Oseman's decision to exclude him. According to a fan's report, it all "comes down to the painful process of casting younger actors."
It is worth mentioning though that the author hadn't made any official comment on this apart from the Instagram comment on officially having Olly on board.

The hit Netflix teen drama “Heartstopper” released its third season this month. Based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series, the show follows the blossoming romance of Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson as high school students. Season three continues their story while tackling more mature themes.
The new season picks up where the last one ended, with Nick having come out as bisexual and their relationship now public. According to reviewers, this season delves deeper into both the joys and challenges of maintaining a young romance. It also explores heavier issues like mental illness, eating disorders, and the difficulties of long-distance relationships when facing university or treatment programs.
Oneexample noted bycritics is a beach scene where Charlie expresses his love for Nick, but their moment is interrupted by Nick’s concern over Charlie’s potential eating disorder. This encapsulates how the show addresses both the excitement of new love and serious personal struggles.

Spoilers are ahead for Heartstopper season 3.
This article mentions difficult topics that are discussed in the show, including mental illness.
Despite being one of the most memorable parts of the Netflix adaptation's first outing, Olivia Colman didn't return for Heartstopper season 3. In the coming-of-age romantic drama's first two seasons, Colman plays Sarah Nelson, Nick Nelson's (Kit Connor) mother. Based on Alice Oseman's graphic novel series of the same name, Heartstopper centers on the budding romance between Nick and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke). Loving, supportive, and perceptive, Sarah has easily become one of the show's best parental figures, which made it all the more disappointing (and surprising) when Colman didn't join Heartstopper season 3's cast of characters.
Picking up where Heartstopper season 2's ending left off, the third outing sees Charlie navigating a dreaded rite of passage: saying "I love you" to Nick for the first time. After Charlie...

Heartstopper's season 4 future is clarified by creator Alice Oseman, who offers a window into the show's plans. In the latest installment of Netflix's teen romance series, the story takes a more grown-up turn. Charlie (Joe Locke) deals with his eating disorder, with his boyfriend Nick (Kit Connor) realizing that he can't help Charlie on his own. Other characters have their own relationship hurdles in the new eight-episode season, though all are looking ahead to university, with a Heartstopper season 4 renewal still unannounced.
In an interview with TheWrap, Oseman shared that she is still working on volume six of the comics that Heartstopper is based on. Oseman added that season 4 remains unconfirmed, though again hinted that season 4 will be the last if it is renewed. Read Oseman's quote below:

You could argue that good TV shows have a tougher time than bad ones.
A bad or average show has obvious room for improvement and clear changes that can be made between seasons. A good show has to stay good, maybe even level up to great or superb or other glowing descriptors, and that’s a trickier task.
Netflix’s “Heartstopper” is one such series, a romance created by Alice Oseman and based on her own graphic novels. Over the course of three seasons (so far!), Nick (Kit Connor) Charlie (Joe Locke), and all their friends navigate all kinds of relationships, with an enchanting soundtrack and pops of illustration to immerse the viewer in their world. The series always was and continues to be just wonderful, dwelling comfortably in queer joy and friendship as the characters grow up and prepare to leave school.
With that foundation, you can’t fault...

In its third season (recapped here), Netflix’s Heartstopper remains one of the most swoon-worthy series ever. But in Episode 4, Isaac discloses to his tight-knit friend group that he won’t be following them down the path to coupledom: Like creator Alice Oseman, he identifies as asexual and aromantic. “I had that planned from the moment I created the character,” Oseman tells TVLine. “I knew that was what I wanted to do with him.
“I think a lot of people — most people in the world — don’t know what it means to be asexual, to be aromantic” she continues. “So with Isaac,...

After hinting at some warning signs in the first two seasons, “Heartstopper” Season 3 dives headfirst into Charlie’s mental health struggles and eating disorder as Alice Oseman crafted his crisis to become the “main topic” of the season.
“I wanted to show the whole journey for Charlie,” Oseman told TheWrap. “I wanted to see how and why his eating disorder gets a lot worse, but then also how he gets out of that place as well, and how he takes those steps towards recovery.”
As Charlie (Joe Locke) comes to terms to terms with his eating disorder, and begins to seek help — at first from Nick (Kit Connor), then his parents and eventually an in-patient care facility — Nick’s goes on what Oseman calls a “parallel” journey as he struggles to support Charlie, and faces his own fears as he...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for Season 3 of Netflix’s Heartstopper.
Season 3 of Heartstopper entered new territory in more ways than one for the television adaptation of Alice Oseman’s beloved graphic novels.
The third installment of the Netflix coming-of-age series, starring Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, signaled several adult decisions for the main pair as well as their friendship group, many of whom had university choices on their minds as the season came to a close. Oseman, who penned the show’s scripts, was working on volume five of the graphic novels while adapting Season 3, which was different than the construction of previous seasons.
“There was a point when I got to the end of writing Season 3 where I was sort of writing the same scene at the same time in both formats. They collided right at the end, but at the time of writing season three,...

Spoiler Alert: This column contains spoilers for Season 3 of “Heartstopper,” now streaming on Netflix.
The first two seasons of “Heartstopper,” Netflix’s popular YA series, were about falling in love. In Season 2 of “Heartstopper,” viewers watched the quiet and unsure Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and his new boyfriend, the self-assured and protective Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), navigate their new relationship. In Season 3, in episodes revolving around mental wellness, sex and significant life changes, creator Alice Oseman — adapting her own graphic novels — focuses on the work relationships require, and what it means to thrive or perish as new feelings and expectations are unearthed.
Sex is a major theme in Season 3. Charlie and Nick have sex for the first time, and their friends, Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao), also take their romance to the next level. However, Oseman doesn’t simply offer up gratuitous scenes of teens allowing their hormones...

After Jonathan Bailey had a brief cameo in “Heartstopper” Season 3, creator Alice Oseman is open to more guest appearances in potential future seasons, with Andrew Scott coming to mind.
“I love Andrew Scott,” Oseman told TheWrap. “I think he’s such an established queer actor … he would be an incredible addition to the show. Maybe he can be another teacher or something like that, I don’t know, but that would be cool.”
Best known for his roles in “Fleabag,” “Ripley” and “Spectre,” Scott recently starred in “All of Us Strangers” as a lonely screenwriter named Adam, who develops an intimate relationship with his mysterious neighbor (Paul Mescal) as he revisits his past memories.
Bailey’s cameo in “Heartstopper” Season 3 came about after the “Bridgerton” star reached out and expressed his interest in joining the Netflix coming-of-age series. Oseman said they “haven’t had any other actors express interest” in a similar guest star role,...

Love the songs in Heartstopper Season 3? Thank series creator Alice Oseman and executive producer Patrick Walters for their sublime taste in music. The series follows the young love between sweet British teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) — and all the emotions that accompany such an important time in a young person’s life.
Oseman’s trademark illustrations in the original graphic novels help convey the inner turmoil of each character — and so do the songs on the soundtrack, which Oseman handpicks alongside Walters. Explains Walters, “Heartstopper tracks are joyful, epic, heart-soaring romance anthems. The sort of music that makes you feel like a teenager again.”
This season, one of the biggest musical moments — or at least the longest — comes during a particularly melancholic Halloween party. Nick feels adrift as his boyfriend, Charlie, spends time at an inpatient treatment program for his eating disorder and Ocd.

There's no doubting just how monumental a hit Heartstopper has been for Netflix. Alice Oseman's original web series was always going to prove popular with the young adult audience, but the series has taken the entire world by storm across its first two seasons. Now, after a painful wait, the darker, more mature third outing is available to stream, and fans and critics alike are already singing its praises. After the first season scored a certified fresh 100% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the second outing dropped slightly to a still impressive 96%. Now, after the first reviews have arrived, Season 3 is back on top with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This can be added to an early audience rating of 96% as proof that this is still one of Netflix's best shows.

If there’s one lesson Heartstopper stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke want you to take away from their last scene in the Season 3 finale, it’s: “Practice safe sex,” they say together. “Take your time. There’s no rush,” Connor continues with a cheeky smile. It took them three whole seasons to do it, and they’re just fine.”
While the pair’s words might elicit a grin, it’s serious business as their characters — Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring — reach a new level of intimacy together. Although teenage lust is at play in the scene, it’s also the culmination of three seasons of feelings and growth for both of them.

“I love you” is where it all begins, or so you think, because despite having been together for over 6 months, Charlie and Nick are still struggling to say this to each other. Heartstopper season 3 begins with Charlie trying to rehearse these words in the mirror when Tori walks in on him. She’s just as surprised as we are that he hasn’t proclaimed his love just yet, because clearly they’re both head over heels for each other, so there’s nothing to fear here. Though the third season starts off on quite a light note, it quickly grows into something much more difficult and nuanced to handle. There have been other shows recently that have dealt with these subjects well, but how does one incorporate them into an already well-established story? Well, that’s a lesson we must learn from Alice Oseman, because does this story just keep hitting the right spots?...

In a fiercely competitive streaming landscape where superhero franchises reign supreme, it is usually hard for other genres to beat Marvel films. However, it looks like the tables might be turning. Ever since Joe Locke’s Heartstopper took over the streaming giant in 2022, fans have been hooked on the heartwarming LGBTQ+ teen drama. Now with the third season having been released just earlier today, the series has proved to do better than the Disney+ series, Agatha All Along.

This third installment of the wholesome teen romance offers plenty of warmth and feels profoundly relatable in its exploration of heavy yet honest themes. Viewers first met the love story between Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson back in Season 1, which rapidly had us rooting for these adorable schoolmates.
Their chemistry shone so brightly that it was easy to get attached to their burgeoning feelings despite their initial uncertainty. Season 2 took us alongside the pair on vacation as they grew closer, though many storylines were left on a cliffhanger.
Now in Season 3 of the Netflix series adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novels, we catch up with Charlie, Nick, and their endearing friends in the aftermath of senior prom, facing new challenges together. While Nick and Charlie remain elated in their relationship, cracks begin to show in Charlie’s mental well-being that threaten to spiral.
Elsewhere in their circle, other characters must wrestle with identity,...

A new season of Heartstopper has arrived on Netflix! The third season of the Emmy Award-winning and fan-adored teen drama series premiered on Oct. 3, and it's by far the most gripping season yet. As the cast of characters continue to quickly grow up and mature, so does the show.
Heartstopper season 3 dives headfirst into some of the most boundary-pushing but important topics yet, such as mental health and sex. The series has always been a source of education for its younger viewers as they move through the world. This time around, as fans of Alice Oseman's book series know, the lessons learned through the series can be a bit tough to watch at times.
Because the season covers Charlie's mental health struggles and the characters exploring their sexualities in physical ways, parents and viewers alike will want to know what to expect from season 3. The episodes feature sensitive topics that can be triggering,...

“16 is when everything starts to make sense. Or when nothing makes any sense anymore.”
When last we saw our fateful teenage lovers Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke), the “Heartstopper” couple of the moment felt the warm embrace of support. Charlie admitted to his boyfriend that he’s experienced some semblance of self-harm throughout his time at school, a revelation that hurts Nick to his core. Charlie has been bullied for being gay, and Nick finds it difficult to understand why anyone would bully such a sweet, innocent young man like Charlie.
“Heartstopper” is full of moments like these, where Nick and Charlie explore their newfound relationship over the course of several seasons that correspond with their growth as teenage boys. Nick has had to confront the demons of his own life at home, coming out to his mother (Olivia Colman) while tending to the athletics that have made him a popular,...

Heartstopper is growing up. Three seasons in, the cute, wholesome world of this hugely popular queer coming-of-age story still exists, but Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) aren't those same kids anymore. Just as the story Alice Oseman created in her graphic novels continues to mature, so too does Netflix's adaptation, in ways that might surprise regular viewers. Sex, alcohol and even F-bombs feature now, silencing critics who felt the show has previously been too unrealistic or sickly sweet. Yet even when Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) contends with transphobia, or Charlie faces up to his eating disorder, Heartstopper’s signature innocence still remains intact.
That’s no easy feat, especially when all these growing storylines demand more nuance and consideration. In fact, everyone in the wider cast has bigger problems to face this time around, which speaks to the show evolving as it...

Heartstopper, one of Netflix's most wholesome coming-of-age series, returns for its third season on October 3rd. Based on Alice Oseman's graphic novels of the same name, Heartstopper Season 1 focused primarily on Charlie's (Joe Locke) budding relationship with Nick (Kit Connor), while Season 2 revolves largely around Nick's coming out journey, also featuring further development of supporting characters like Tao (William Gao), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell), and Isaac (Tobie Donovan). The Season 3 trailer shows Charlie and his friends taking on new challenges as they start thinking about their futures, and though Olivia Colman, who plays Nick's supportive mother, will not be returning, Hayley Atwell and Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey have also joined the cast. It's been over a year since Season 2 came out, so let's take a look back at where we left off with the Heartstopper crew before the new season drops.
