Spy x Family is one of the most popular shonen anime series in the last few years. Audiences love it because of its clever and exciting adventure storytelling, its lovable characters, and its slow-burn romantic subplot. Shonen anime doesn't always have the most nuanced romances, as Loid and Yor's marriage incorporates many amazing romance tropes popular in shojo anime.
Excellent and diverse tropes and storytelling give Spy x Family added cross-demographic appeal. Bingeing through available episodes and movies, then waiting on tenterhooks for new installments is an experience most anime fans can relate to. Thankfully, there are several anime titles, older and new, which can scratch the itch for Spy x Family fans.

While William Shatner’s career is synonymous with his feats in Star Trek, prior to his flight in the sci-fi juggernaut, he made a name for himself by excelling in theatre, especially at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. But before headlining major plays at Stratford, he worked as an understudy to Christopher Plummer for years, a man he admired immensely.

Even though Plummer was just three years his senior, Shatner described the former as far more advanced in the realm of acting, given Plummer’s roots in the theatrical scene of Montreal. But it was his mentor’s unavailability during one play that contributed to Shatner’s breakout moment in the field.

The Buu Saga's World Tournament is a Slap in the Face to Dragon Ball's Legacy - But That's the Point
World Martial Arts Tournaments were foundational to the series in the original Dragon Ball. Half of the anime's sagas are tournament arcs set at the Tenkaichi Budokai, and all of them are filled with comedic charm, awesome martial arts battles, and a strong sense of tradition. Apart from being funny, the lone World Tournament in Dragon Ball Z is a completely different beast.
When Goku and his friends return to compete in a new tournament after skipping the previous one, they discover everything has changed. Instead of being a straightforward, brutal competition to determine the world's greatest fighter, with unique competitors from around the world, it's a corporate, sanitized event that's fun for all ages, and that primarily exists to worship Mr. Satan. The 25th World Martial Arts Tournament is nothing like the competitions Goku competed in as a kid, to an insulting degree, but it's perfectly representative of the Buu Saga.

Revelations’ ending explains that good and evil are often two sides of the same coin. We all know that the devil is a masterful deceiver who not only feeds on people’s fear but also manipulates them into committing sin, which men like Pastor Sung perceive as God’s will. It is said that men blinded by faith lose their rationality. They fail to make a distinction between angel and demon, and this is exactly what happened with Pastor Sung. You might be wondering the reason why Pastor Sung convinced himself that the missing girl, Shin A-yeong, was dead. Kwon Yang-rae, the sexual offender, screamed his lungs out to tell the pastor that the girl he had kidnapped was still alive and he could save her only if he let him go. But the pastor didn’t listen. Why? Well, the answer was hidden on the walls of his prison cell.

The season 3 finale of Invincible hit last Thursday, and with no new episode today, Prime Video and creator Robert Kirkman are already teasing what fans can expect from the officially in-development fourth season.
Mark Grayson very nearly met his end at the hands of the bloodthirsty (even for a Viltrumite) villain known as Conquest, but he's going to come up against an even tougher opponent in season 4: Grand Regent Thragg.
There are a number of incredibly powerful characters in the world of Invincible, but a lot of fans would consider Thragg to be at least among the most formidable. We don't know who will voice the character in the show, but Kirkman has confirmed that he has been cast.
"I mean, it would certainly be weird if [Thragg] didn't show up in the show. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. It's so tough. Here's what I'll say: he's been cast,...

William Shatner is one of the actors most synonymous with the Star Trek franchise. He has been a part of the iconic franchise since its inception in 1966 when Gene Roddenberry launched Star Trek: The Original Series. He later appeared in a string of motion pictures, with Shatner directing the fifth installment, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

The film is arguably one of the worst entries in the franchise and nearly spelled its end. Aside from starring in it, Shatner also directed the film, which explored some pretty bold ideas even for a Star Trek project. However, the film’s critical and commercial failure resulted from a compromise between Shatner and Roddenberry. Here is what Shatner had to say about the compromise that doomed Star Trek V.

In the world of rap music, Playboi Carti didn’t take too long to make a name for himself as he gained mainstream attention in 2017 with the release of his eponymous debut mixtape, which peaked on multiple Billboard charts. But while his music was one to make him the center of fan concentration, the rapper has also faced some serious allegations of being a Satanist.

For around half a decade or so, Carti — whose real name is Jordan Terell Carter — has found his name being thrown around with Satanism as well as the Church of Satan. And, all of these accusations and speculation surrounding the same, for one, seem to have stemmed from the rapper’s widely influential album Whole Lotta Red from 2020.

American Jesus brings a modern twist to biblical end times, with the Antichrist being raised in small-town USA, but ultimately choosing love and forgiveness over evil. The Antichrist, Jodie, becomes the President of the United States and is seen as the solution to everyone's problems, but he surprises everyone by surrendering to God's love instead of stamping it out. The creators of American Jesus considered making Jodie the Returned Christ, but ultimately decided against it, as the story focused on Jodie's rejection of evil and his choice to prioritize his own conscience and humanity.
Warning! This article contains spoilers for American Jesus: Revelation American Jesus brings the biblical end of days to the modern era, and highlights the more optimistic view of what every Bible figure was meant to represent. However, that optimism nearly had a twist that would have assuredly blown the minds of everyone reading the series - religious or not.

Director David Gordon Green is giving The Exorcist: Believer the "requel" treatment, focusing on two new possessed teens in Georgia with Ellen Burstyn's Chris MacNeil returning. The sequel, The Exorcist: Deceiver, could focus on Angela's demonic relapse and the return of the demon goddess Lamashtu. The Exorcist: Deceiver can rescue Katherine's soul from Hell in a metaphysical battle, exploring the concept of the spirit and incorporating different cultures and religions for a unique solution.
The following contains spoilers for The Exorcist: Believer, now in theaters.
It's safe to say the original Exorcist movie is one of the most adored horror films in pop culture. Admittedly, the sequels didn't age well, but fans do have soft spots for them. The property also got a glow when Fox had its Exorcist TV series in 2016. But admittedly, with so many movies doing demonic possessions, the genre has felt diluted.

In 1989 Orion Pictures, along with Nelson Entertainment released Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The film was widely loved, and still is, to this day by both critics and fans alike. Because the film was so popular, spawned tons of merchandise and even had two spinoff shows…a sequel was inevitable.

Nearly 50 years after William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist” landed in theaters to leg out a run as the highest-grossing feature of 1973, a new sequel to it is opening on top of the box office. Universal’s “The Exorcist: Believer” compelled audiences to the tune of an $11.9 million opening day from 3,663 locations, a number including $2.85 million in previews.
The Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Entertainment production should have no trouble taking the top spot through the weekend, though “Believer” now looks to be debuting lower than its more optimistic projections, which had forecast a $30 million gross over the three-day frame. The horror entry should take in around $28 million through Sunday.
The film is also doing much less business than director David Gordon Green’s last spin on a classic horror franchise at Blumhouse; his 2018 “Halloween” became a smash hit with a $76 million debut. “Believer” also won’t be matching the 1973 original’s run,...

Blade turns to Tulip for help and learns about a weapon called Lightbringer, which was created by God and gifted to Lucifer. This version of Lucifer in Marvel is closer to the DC portrayal, as seen in the Sandman and Lucifer comics. Although it doesn't guarantee a crossover, this opens the door for a more modern interpretation of Lucifer in the Marvel universe.
Warning: Spoilers for Blade #3!After spending years fighting the forces of Hell, Blade is going to need some unexpected help from Hell's favorite angel in the form of Lucifer. Blade is currently locking horns with the Adana, a centuries-old monster who in the first issue tricks Blade into destroying the one soldier that could kill her. Joining forces with Rotha, a woman from the same sect of warriors the mysterious soldier hailed from, Blade is on a quest now to set the world right before the Adana destroys everything.

The Craft explores the reality of witchcraft and the power of rituals, spells, and incantations, with an emphasis on accuracy and respect for Wiccan subject matter. The girls form a coven and perform a ritual to harness their combined powers, but their individual spells have negative consequences that lead to dangerous and unexpected outcomes. The film features various spells, including a revenge spell that causes someone's hair to fall out, a love spell that leads to obsession and attempted sexual abuse, and a beauty spell that heals scars but transforms a character's personality.
The Craft has become a cult classic from the teen horror genre, and most of the witchcraft, spells, and rituals seen throughout the movie are rooted in reality. In 1996, director Andrew Fleming brought The Craft, which introduced the audience to four outcast teenage girls with magical abilities: Nancy (Fairuza Balk), Sarah (Robin Tunney), Bonnie (Neve Campbell), and...

Linda Blair cemented her place in cinematic history with her role as Regan in 1973's "The Exorcist." She played a young girl possessed by a demon, and her performance proved so shocking that audiences didn't know how to react. "People were running up the aisles and into the lobby, some of them making it out to the street before vomiting, while others did it en route," Nat Segaloff wrote in his book "The Exorcist Legacy: 50 Years of Fear" (via The New York Post).
Blair reprised her role in "Exorcist II: The Heretic," and when Ellen Burstyn returned for 2023's "The Exorcist: Believer," many fans wondered if Blair would follow. Director David Gordon Green told Fandango that she consulted on the film, specifically advising new stars Lidya Jewett and Olivia O'Neill on how to deal with the troublesome subject matter. This article contains The Exorcist: Believer spoilers.
For nearly 20 years, author and screenwriter William Peter Blatty hated the ending of The Exorcist (1973) so much that he could barely speak with its director, William Friedkin. This would have likely struck many as odd considering the film faithfully adapted Blatty’s novel of the same name, and Blatty’s contribution to the work as screenwriter won him an Oscar. But the theatrical ending of that film was made so downbeat by its director—with Father Dyer (William O’Malley) looking at the staircase which stole the life of his best friend Father Karras (Jason Miller)—that many interpreted it as Dyer and the film were thinking none of this was worth it. For years afterward, Blatty was horrified when he encountered moviegoers who told him the Devil won.

Howard the Duck was one of the biggest financial flops of the 1980s. It did so poorly that the two heads of the studio allegedly got into a fistfight over who greenlit it. But what does that have to do with Marvel? Let us explain.
Before there was an entire money-making studio dedicated to pumping out movies and TV shows based on the vast and ever-expanding catalog of Marvel Comics characters- we were seeing the likes of Sam Raimi making the Sony Spider-Man trilogy and Johnathan Hensleigh delivering an exciting take on The Punisher. Even before that, we had the iconic Blade movies and some solid X-Men fare- all movies we’ve covered in previous show episodes… Or have we?

The Exorcist: Beginning revealed a dark secret about Father Merrin regarding prisoners of war. Father Merrin died not knowing if Regan could be saved and perished in a bubble of hopelessness. The Exorcist revealed who Pazuzu's real target was, which should be honored more in the franchise's legacy.
With The Exorcist: Believer out soon, fans are getting reacquainted with the old Exorcist movies once more. Some are even revisiting Fox's The Exorcist TV series, even though it's non-canon. It's all because it makes for a great Halloween watch. Still, nothing can touch the original 1973 movie with Linda Blair's Regan MacNeil being taken ahold of by Pazuzu.
Interestingly, another key character in this story is Max von Sydow's Father Lankester Merrin, the elder priest who came to help free Regan's soul. Unfortunately, Merrin hasn't become a big part of the franchise's legacy despite being the anchor it was based on.

You might think it would be difficult, after fifty years, to introduce something new to a motion picture series as long and as storied as “The Exorcist.” Ever since William Friedkin’s trailblazing original horror drama — as frightening as it was insightful about the fragile relevance of religion in an increasingly secular world — filmmakers as varied as John Boorman, William Peter Blatty, Renny Harlin and Paul Schrader have been stretching the concept of demonic possession as far as it they could take it. Their films have been, not always at the same time, fiercely intelligent, deeply strange, hypnotically inept, genuinely terrifying, profoundly embarrassing, and/or uncomfortably insightful.
David Gordon Green’s “The Exorcist: Believer” has now entered the conversation, and to its credit — sort of — it does have one thing we’ve never seen in these movies before: mediocrity, and lots of it. The new film is competently dramatized and occasionally quite startling,...

The sequels — or, in two cases, prequels — to “The Exorcist” have all been unqualified turkeys. There is now a movement at hand to declare that John Boorman’s crackpot insect-swarm fantasia “Exorcist II: The Heretic” (1977) was some sort of misunderstood masterpiece, but that’s an act of revisionism every bit as loony tunes as “Heaven’s Gate” revisionism.
That said, the “Exorcist” genre has never left the culture. It has spawned successful pieces of claptrap, like “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (2005), whose opening-weekend gross of $30 million in the dead zone of early September was more shocking than anything in the film. Fifty years ago, the very essence of William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist” was its obscenely eruptive, pea-soup-in-the-face, borderline-demonic-child-porn shock value. The film marked nothing less than the birth of extreme culture, and we’ve never looked back. It also influenced the rise of the Evangelical movement, since if Satan was now in our face,...

Any love you had for David Gordon Green’s attempts to reanimate John Carpenter’s game-changing Halloween franchise will probably more or less correspond to your feelings about The Exorcist: Believer, the director’s bid to do the same for William Friedkin’s canonical demonic possession chiller. For those of us former Catholic school kids with vivid recall of being scared witless in our younger years by that 1973 classic, the new film is as deceptive a trickster as the Satanic visitor that takes up residence this time in not just one innocent girl but two.
In theory that should mean double the scare factor, and for most of the first hour all bodes well — or ill, if you dread what’s coming — as Green shows his respect for the original by disregarding its various sequels, prequels and the mostly forgettable 2016 Fox TV series. “Exorcism is a ritual. Every culture, every religion, they all use different methods… and it’s going to take all of them.” These are the words of Ellen Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil, who’s come a long way since we last saw her in 1973’s The Exorcist. But then she saw the face of the Devil in that film, and 50 years later she now seems intent on offering a different kind of grace in David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer. In the biggest horror movie of the Halloween season, Catholics, Baptists, Pentecostals, and even an African root doctor, will come together to face evil.

Religious extremism is as old as religion itself. A belief in sorcery and witchcraft as some ungodly source has always been present when it comes to Christian fundamentalism – most often resulting in witchhunts and senseless deaths by hanging, burning at the stake, or drowning. It’s the fear of the unknown that has caused innocent lives to be stricken down, and it’s always efforts done in the name of God. That it is their duty to cleanse the world of perceived evil before it spreads and consumes all they know and love.
Where 1922’s Häxan sketches a broader narrative about witches and witchhunts from the Middle Ages to the then-present day in Denmark, Witchhammer stages its story amidst the Northern Moravia witch trials in the mid- to late 1600s. Both films take great care to dig into the accused’s humanity – that they were just normal people going about...

The 1968 psychological horror film Rosemary's Baby is a masterwork of slow-burn horror, seamlessly infusing terror with social commentary that, over 50 years later, has inspired a number of contemporary filmmakers from Jordan Peele to Ari Aster. Adapted from Ira Levin's novel of the same name, Mia Farrow stars as the eponymous Rosemary, a young woman unwittingly recruited into a Satanic cult by her overbearing neighbors and forcibly impregnated with the child of Satan. Explorations of cultism are popular in the horror genre, and while the Satanic cult is certainly an essential part of Rosemary's Baby, the true horror lies in her husband's betrayal, the manipulation and gaslighting he subjects her to, and the way their abusive relationship strips Rosemary of her bodily autonomy.

The ending of Taxi Driver may not be Travis Bickle's dying fantasy, despite popular beliefs and the idealized turn of events that occur. According to the original screenwriter, Travis is not intended to be dead at the end of the film, and the scenes are meant to be happening in reality. However, there is evidence that supports the interpretation of Travis being dead, including the contrasting tone of the ending and the camera angles used to depict his possible demise.
The ending of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver is widely believed to take place in Travis Bickle’s imagination in his dying moments, but that doesn’t necessarily reflect the filmmakers’ intentions. Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro as Travis, a Vietnam War veteran with Ptsd and insomnia. After returning from Vietnam, driving a cab around New York, and being disgusted by the rampant crime on the streets of his city,...

As one of the most popular anime franchises of all time, Dragon Ball has introduced some of the most iconic characters, and though Goku might be the series' most recognizable hero, he isn't Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama's favorite. The franchise has been going strong for decades and the characters have become icons. Characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza are among the most recognizable fictional heroes and villains ever.
When the fanbase is polled for their favorite Dragon Ball character, Goku is consistently the most popular character, with an occasional dark horse victory by Vegeta. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama has gone on record regarding his personal favorite character in the franchise though. Shockingly, it's not Goku or any other Saiyan for that matter. However, Toriyama's personal favorite character has been a major part of the franchise since as far back as the original Dragon Ball.

It's astonishing to think what an enormous hit Tom Shadyac's film "Bruce Almighty" was when it came out back in 2003. Jim Carrey played Bruce, a mid-level TV reporter who is selfish and a little disappointed with his job. When a rival named Evan (Steve Carell) is promoted above him, Bruce wails to God that life is unfair. Astonishingly, God Almighty (Morgan Freeman) appears to Bruce in order to give him a lesson. For one week, and limited to only a small portion of Buffalo, New York, Bruce will be given the infinite power of the Divine, teaching him that being God isn't as easy as all that. Bruce uses his Godly powers for petty, personal things like parting traffic and increasing the bust size of his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston).
Naturally, Bruce's cavalier use of power -- and his lazy acumen when it comes to answering prayers -- leads to chaos.

All hail the antihero.
The idea of an antihero has always been one that’s appealed to me. Grey areas, especially in morality, make for dynamic storytelling and sometimes, even if we don’t want to admit it, relatable characters.
In horror, villains are often more memorable than heroes—after all, you’re more likely to wear a Freddy Krueger costume for Halloween than a white cropped football jersey, but that doesn’t mean that even the worst villains aren’t without their own tragic backstories. However, a tragic backstory does not necessarily make a villain worthy of sympathy.

Fear and Loathing meets South Park in a screwball horror novella from the twisted mind of Christopher Brett Bailey. Part romance, part buddy comedy, part bizzarro body horror, I Saw Satan at the 7–Eleven is a dark-as-night tale from a phenomenal new name in literary fiction.
Two miles north of Hell, a nameless deadbeat narrator spots Satan buying soy milk at the 7–Eleven. Satan’s a washed-up has-been, who’s totally lost his edge. That is until he falls in love with our narrator, and the two embark on a debauched misadventure, by turns slapstick, violent, whimsical, dreamlike and tender.
Outside in the parking lot, Satan was polishing his windshield. Satan drove a Corvette, obviously. I went outside, kept my distance, eyeballed him wiping dead bugs from his wing mirrors. Clocking me, he struck a rebel pose, one foot up on the bumper, and called out, “I’m not a hippie.

Good Omens star Michael Sheen recently reflected on his unofficial role as David Tennant's "attack dog" on the set of the Prime Video fantasy-comedy's second season.
Sheen recalled how Tennant relied on him to resolve their shared grievances during filming at McM London Comic Con. "[Tennant] leaves it to me," he said. "When there's a problem and we're unhappy about something... because I'm supposedly the grumpy one. So he can say, 'Oh, I'm sorry, it's just Michael has a wee problem with this... it's not me, I'm fine with it.' I'm the attack dog that has to go on out... Throughout Good Omens, there are hints that Crowley may have been a powerful Angel before his fall, leading to speculation about his true identity. You know you’re watching a true pop star when that person’s identity — their very existence — smashes boundaries. Elvis Presley was a country boy who mixed country and rockabilly and the blues, and with his sneer and black hair and mascara he looked like no human had ever looked before. Prince was a one-man band who mixed funk and rock with his own synth-pop bitches’ brew and sang, “Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay?”
Lil Nas X, following in the footsteps of Elvis’s blue suede shoes and Prince’s James Brown-with-wings delirium, is a Black queer confessional pop hip-hop diva who put himself on the map with a viral single, recorded in about an hour, in which he appropriated the cowboy mystique of the Wild West — and did it with a wink of pure sincerity. Judging from talk in restaurants and on the Telluride gondola, one of the films provoking the strongest reaction at the festival this year is The Mission. The National Geographic documentary, directed by Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, tells the story of missionary John Chau whose shocking demise in 2018 made headlines around the world (and elicited insensitive memes).
The world premiere and subsequent screenings here have triggered debate over the ethics of Christian missionary work, particularly when it involves attempts to convert Indigenous people who have had little or no previous contact with outsiders, as was the case in Chau’s endeavor. He took it upon himself to try to bring the Gospel to the North Sentinelese, a group living on a remote island in the Andaman Sea. After initially being repelled by a warning shot from an arrow, Chau returned the next day and was felled on the beach. His body was never recovered.

It will be interesting to know where all the characters end up by the end of this ten-episode show.

How do Lucio Fulci fans catalogue their favorites? By number of atrocious set pieces? Or by simply weighing the entrails and moving from there? Fulci’s career is by no means limited to his gruesome peak in the late ’70s and early ’80s, but it’s sure difficult to find many who hold his ’60s spy knockoffs and westerns in as high regard as violent stoners do the likes of Zombie, The New York Ripper, and City of the Living Dead (also known as The Gates of Hell). While there’s no denying the effectiveness of the cheapjack surrealism underpinning The Beyond, most of his other gore touchstones are notable only for the extreme lengths they’re willing to go, not how far they’re capable of burrowing beyond viewers’ gag reflexes.

Thirteen Ghosts was not positively received upon its 2001 release but has since become a cult classic paranormal horror movie. Among hundreds of haunted house storylines with a similar premise, this film stands out for having a unique concept. The plot not only focuses on multiple ghosts but offers them more agency than just another spooky enemy causing chaos.
Fans of the horror movie were excited to hear from Dread Central that a Thirteen Ghosts TV adaptation is in early development with Dark Castle. Though the 2001 film is a remake of a 1960s movie, which also received poor reviews from critics, the property is best known for the reboot. From the great performances to the spooky imagery, there is a lot to appreciate in 2001's Thirteen Ghosts. While TV adaptations of a standalone movie can be a hit or miss, especially considering the limited source material, this project has the potential to change horror television.

Summer 2023 has two fantasy comedy anime airing and they have an absurd amount in common. Both series are about a Demon Lord and the Hero who beat them and their slice-of-life adventures, occasionally interrupted by a more serious overarching plot. One of these series is the returning hit, The Devil Is a Part-Timer (HataMaou)! The other is a newcomer to the anime world, Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero (Lv1 Maou). Calling these anime similar is an understatement. It's nearly impossible to describe one series without making it sound suspiciously like the other. Someone hearing about these two works secondhand could easily assume that Level 1 Demon Lord was copying a successful anime.
However, as similar as HataMaou and Lv1 Maou are they're still easy to tell apart. They may contain similar characters and story elements, but their aesthetics, tones, storytelling, and humor are unique enough to give each show a discernible identity.

The following contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 4, Episode 7, "The Most Culturally Impactful Film Franchise of All Time," now streaming on Max.
