For the past seven years, Netflix has been gradually releasing a collection of interactive, choose-your-own-story games within the Netflix Ui, known as Interactive Specials. According to a recent report, we may not see many more of these, if any, in the future.
Netflix began rolling out this feature in 2017, and to date, 28 of them have been released, with the majority targeting family-oriented audiences. IP such as Carmen Sandiego, The Boss Baby, Barbie, Johnny Test, and Jurassic World have all featured interactive specials, along with Netflix’s own array of shows receiving this treatment, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and We Lost Our Human.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was undoubtedly a major breakthrough for this technology, targeting adults and pushing the feature to its limits with numerous branching storylines. Netflix’s movie selection will make this a September to remember. From an abundance of romantic comedies and dramedies arriving on the streamer this month to fun-loving animation that tells heartfelt stories, there is no shortage of stream-worthy content as the colder months approach. While fall technically does not start until Sept. 21, this list may or may not supply some watch suggestions for pumpkin spice season.

Netflix has just released an innovative romantic comedy, Choose Love, which offers viewers the chance to make decisions for the protagonist.
This is not the first time Netflix has offered viewers an "interactive" experience, as the 2018 Black Mirror movie, Bandersnatch, also allowed the viewers to choose the protagonist's actions with unexpected results. While such an approach is no surprise from the experimental tone of the series, it is indeed groundbreaking for the romantic-comedy genre.

The film's plot revolves around Cami, an engineer, who appears to have it all -- a dream job, a steady boyfriend, and a promising future. However, her life takes an unexpected turn, from pursuing a new career path to reevaluating her relationships. As the film progresses, viewers must choose from multiple scenarios to drive the narrative. It has also been revealed that the film has 16 different endings.

Stuart McDonald deeply admires Netflix’s first interactive movie Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. He describes the film as a dark journey wherein a viewer’s decisions in a gamer nerd’s life could lead to acid trips, existential torment, suicide, stuffed bunnies, and decapitated heads. But McDonald knows audiences will have a different reaction to the streaming behemoth’s first interactive romantic comedy, which he directed. In Choose Love, audiences wander into the pages of a fan fiction to decide which suitor is best for the film’s career-driven protagonist, Cami...

Viewers can take charge of a new romantic comedy, picking the lead’s moves, but the fun of the idea quickly evaporates
In theory, an interactive romcom in which you choose the suitor, and the confessions or evasions to get to them, sounds like a good idea. Who hasn’t yelled “not him!” or “don’t do that” at the screen when bemoaning a misguided protagonist’s choices? Choose Love, Netflix’s romcom entry into its nascent interactive oeuvre (following the Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch in 2019), at least tries to makes its choices seem organic to a theoretical audience’s different tastes in romantic interests. But as proof of a concept that sounds admittedly like a consultant’s pitch to streaming services, it struggles to feel at all like a genuine story.

Back in 2018 with “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch,” Netflix introduced interactive features as a way for viewers to take charge of a movie, using a controller to select diverse story paths. The filmmakers offered choices branching off from pivotal points within the narrative that led to a range of conclusions that either worked, eventually triggering the end credits, or didn’t, propelling the viewer back to an earlier point to try again. More programming utilizing this style shortly followed in other genres: the scripted comedy “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend,” the animated special “We Lost Our Human,” and the reality series “Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls.”
This innovative concept is now applied to the streamer’s growing stable of saccharine-but-sentimental romantic comedy features with “Choose Love.” Director Stuart McDonald (“A Perfect Pairing”) and writer-producer Josann McGibbon (“Runaway Bride”) center their tale on an indecisive career-driven woman who must choose...

"I'm asking you to take a leap of faith with me." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for "interactive" romantic comedy from Netflix titled Choose Love. This is obviously exactly what you'd expect them to make one day - a love story where a young woman has to choose between three different men, but this time the viewer gets to pick in an "interactive" experience. Netflix has been testing this ever since the Bandersnatch episode of "Black Mirror". Cami Conway has it all, the perfect job and boyfriend but she feels that something is missing, and that feeling begins to grow when she meets the musician Rex, and an old love returns to her life. What she chooses depends wholly on you, the viewer. But be careful! Things don’t always play out like you think! Of course, there's scripted endings based on each one. The movie stars Laura Marano,...

Have you ever been so frustrated by a romantic comedy that you wanted to choose who the main character ends up with yourself? Now you can with the Netflix interactive film “Choose Love,” the trailer for which was released on Tuesday.
The story introduces Laura Marano as Cami Conway, who seems pretty satisfied with her life and boyfriend Paul (Scott Michael Foster) until she goes to see a tarot reader who points out that her life might be missing something. She doesn’t exactly love her sound-mixing job, but the rest is manageable.
The fun begins when she stumbles upon multiple life choices that could lead her in a different direction. She bumps into childhood beau Jack Menna (Jordi Webber) one day after he hadn’t crossed her mind in many years, and shortly after that — if the choice is made where she doesn’t kiss him when they catch...

"You" season three hit Netflix in October 2021 and whew, we were not ready for all the twists and turns it threw at us. While the shocking finale seemed to be the end of Joe Goldberg's (Penn Badgley) story, season four, which premieres on Feb. 9, only marks the beginning of his next chapter under his new alias: Professor Jonathan Moore.
If you remember how "You" season three concluded, you know we probably won't be seeing Love (Victoria Pedretti) ever again - but there's a good chance some of the other characters may return, like Tati Gabrielle's Marienne, aka Joe's latest love. But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's revisit all the wild events from "You"'s season three finale before the show returns.

A You season 4 poster arrives, showing off Joe Goldberg's different London disguises. The psychological thriller series, based on Caroline Kepnes' novels, premiered on Lifetime back in 2018 before moving to Netflix a year later. It follows Joe (Penn Badgley), who revealed himself to be a serial killer during season 1, as his various romantic interests turn into obsessions, and he sporadically attempts to escape his past by moving and changing identities. Garnering consistently positive reactions from critics and audiences alike, the streaming platform announced the renewal of You prior to season 3's release in 2021. Fans last saw Joe and Love's (Victoria Pedretti) tumultuous relationship come to an end, and found Badgley's character arriving in Europe in pursuit of another love interest.
Now, as audiences look forward to seeing Joe's upcoming exploits in London, a new poster shared to You's official Instagram account is teasing the character's season 4 disguises. Dressed in his familiar cap,...

Since the dawn of Shudder, the streaming service has been fairly consistent in releasing fantastic original horror flicks. Their new release, The Boy Behind The Door, the feature debut from writer/director pair David Charbonier and Justin Powell is no exception. The film takes a terribly dark subject, child trafficking, and spins a pulse-pounding thriller without exploitation or falling into tasteless cliche. Instead, Charbonier and Powell opt for a straightforward, dark and never dull abduction thriller in a remote mountainous setting that lends to a hellish atmosphere. The Boy Behind the Door is in the vein of Misery, sans hamminess, and with the added intensity of talented child leads who you'll literally be on the edge of your seat rooting for.
Not wasting a moment, the film opens with a rusty maroon sedan crawling up a winding mountain road to a lone house atop a hill, as an ominous spacy...

"I'm scared, Bobby." "Me too, okay, but I'm not going to leave you." Shudder has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Boy Behind the Door, which first premiered at both Fantastic Fest and AFI Fest last year in the fall. This is the second film from horror filmmakers David Charbonier & Justin Powell – they actually made this before making The Djinn, but The Djinn ended up being released before this one. In The Boy Behind the Door, a night of unimaginable terror awaits twelve-year-old Bobby and his best friend, Kevin, when they are abducted on their way home from school. They eventually manage to escape their confines, and embark upon a rescue mission to find save other and get the hell out of there. Starring Lonnie Chavis and Ezra Dewey, with Kristin Bauer van Straten, Scott Michael Foster, and Micah Hauptman. This does look like a terrifying little film,...

"Obviously there is also an element of sheer good luck in this statistic. It's impossible to totally negate risk in a pandemic," she continued.
"I feel privileged to have gotten to witness everyone's creativity, resilience and kindness."
"I mean, I knew our team was tough and good at their jobs, but holy shit did everyone show up for each other. All the way up the Warner's/Netflix ladder and in every production department," Gamble continued, before noting that the performances from the cast are "insanely good."
