But even within those pulpy storytelling tropes, Dhillon also tries to retrofit important social issues, especially concerning women. If there is one thing Dhillon should be praised for, it’s writing scripts for female characters with apparently strong characterization as well as providing variety beyond the usual constraints of commercial cinema.

I say apparently, and my tonality in the above paragraph carries a tone of uncertainty because this film is reliant on a screenplay that feels like it is unsure of what it wants to be. Ostensibly about the battle of wits between two twin sisters (both played by Kriti Sanon) and how the more outgoing and jealous twin wants the life of her sister to be completely destroyed as they both are attracted...

Starring Kriti Sanon in a double role and Kajol as a dedicated cop, Do Patti is a mystery drama that addresses domestic violence. While we do need to talk more about domestic violence and raise awareness about the legal framework around it, the film Do Patti fails to leave a mark. The double-role demarcations are as obvious as they can get, but thankfully there is a redemption arc for the modern independent woman. Kajol is both the cop and the prosecutor, but her character lacks gravitas. To make matters worse, the courtroom scenes were terribly executed and were far from believable. She had inherited the quality from her father, a judge who upheld the law over personal biases, unlike her mother, a lawyer, who believed the law was useless unless effectively implemented to bring justice to the innocent. Exclusive: New York-based indie film company CinemaStreet Pictures is launching the New Voices in Horror slate of films, company CEO Dana Offenbach has confirmed.

The slate will champion queer, female identifying, immigrant, and Bipoc voices and will consist of four-six films annually. Dhruv Sud, CinemaStreet’s Head of Development, will oversee the slate and report to Offenbach.
