‘We don’t half-ass anything’: Simone Biles reflects on her Netflix docuseries and hints at 2028 Olympics
Image
"We don't half-ass anything. We want it to be great." That's how Olympic champion Simone Biles describes the effort behind her acclaimed Netflix series Simone Biles Rising.

Directed by Katie Walsh, the docuseries chronicles the gymnastics superstar's remarkable journey as she navigates the aftermath of her withdrawal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health concerns. Through moments of vulnerability and resilience, the series captures Biles rebuilding her skills and mental fortitude — all while preparing for her triumphant return to the sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In a personal and reflective conversation, the Goat shared raw insights into her life — her unparalleled achievements, struggles, comeback, and a look to the future — alongside director Katie Walsh during an Emmys FYC event hosted by Emmy-nominated actress Yvonne Orji (Insecure).

The gymnast revealed she wasn't sure if she wanted to be followed around by cameras for four years. "It took me a lot...

‘Simone Biles Rising’ Director Talks Olympian’s Decision to ‘Go All in’ with Netflix Documentary
Image
Simone Biles Rising chronicles the return of the athlete considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games following her withdrawal from the competition in Tokyo four years earlier. It’s a triumphant tale of athleticism, discipline and resilience that results in Biles doing exactly what she set out to do — win gold medals in the team final and all-around final — but as director Katie Walsh and her production crew documented what Biles dubbed her “redemption tour” in real time, they had no clue how things would turn out.

“It’s making a movie when you don’t know the ending,” says Walsh, who also directed the 2021 Facebook Watch docuseries Simone vs Herself. Both projects were produced by Religion of Sports. “Going into that series, the expectation was that she was going to win all the things and retire, and there was a really hard left turn toward the end.

The Handmaid's Tale season 6 episode 9 review: Finally, something big happens
Image
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 has certainly been filled with potential rebellion attempts. However, just as one would get started, it would fail, and with the knowledge of The Testaments, it is clear that Gilead can’t be brought down. So, I did start to worry that we wouldn’t get to see the Handmaids take down the Commanders.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale season 6, episode 9.

The takedown did start in the previous episode. Commander Bell was killed with a knife to the eye by June, while other Handmaids slipped into their Commanders’ rooms to kill them. However, the episode cut off before we could really see the revolution happen. The Handmaid’s Tale season 6, episode 9 made up for that.

The Handmaid’S Tale - “Execution” - June faces her biggest challenge as Gilead cracks down on the rebels. (Disney/Steve Wilkie) Samira Wiley Yet another...

‘Lord of the Rings’ Star John Rhys-Davies Reveals His Only Condition for Returning in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’
Image
Another Middle-earth saga awaits us in the next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum. Warner Bros. recently announced a release date for the movie, but still, core details remain hazy. It's no secret, however, thatAndy Serkis is developing the movie with the guidance of Peter Jackson, who has steered all previous live-action entries in the franchise. Serkis will not only direct but will also reprise his role as the titular troubled hobbit aka Smeagol. He remains the only actor officially confirmed for a role, however, several other franchise stars have publicly expressed their willingness to return. One star, John Rhys-Davies, was previously iffy, stating conditions to guarantee his return, but in an updated response, the Gimli actor appears more optimistic about stepping back into the dwarves' boots.

The Hunt for Gollum has been tipped off as a potential prequel to The Fellowship of the Ring, with its...

The Goonies: Every Main Character, Ranked
Image
Between movies about Christmas presents you shouldn't feed after midnight and aliens that need to make a phone call, the 1980s were rife with family films that became iconic in their own right, one in particular being the Richard Donner-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced adventure movie, "The Goonies." Released in 1985, this now-treasured, er, treasure hunt launched the careers of a handful of stars, including Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan. You must know the story by now, and if you don't, then, well, boy, was your childhood lacking. Anyway, "The Goonies" follows the titular band of kids as they find a treasure map and are swept off on an adventure searching for a pirate ship that could hold enough "rich stuff" to prevent their homes from being flattened for a newly-approved golf course.

While Donner's film has been homaged many times over, it's also...

‘Die My Love’ Review: Jennifer Lawrence Goes Full Feral in Lynne Ramsay’s Intense, Exhausting Postpartum Psychosexual Frenzy
Image
You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Jennifer Lawrence doing any of the debasing things she does in Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love,” like crawling on all fours through a field of grass, a kitchen knife in hand as she closes in on her character Grace’s newborn baby, or masturbating gloomily in a state of postpartum doom while her husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson) finishes cooking dinner downstairs, a self-induced orgasm timed to the spring of a toaster below.

Grace is just trying to be a good wife, a good mother, but she’s failing spectacularly at it in Ramsay’s alternately absorbing, exhausting tone poem of post-birth grief turned into psychosexual frenzy. Lawrence — whose fearless skill in conjuring women gone perilously over the verge and unhinged from top to toe while trying to play house was already established in Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” — gives the kind of...

Review: Gary A. Sherman’s ‘Vice Squad’ on Kl Studio Classics 4K Uhd Blu-ray
Image
If it’s been hard out there for a pimp in recent decades, that wasn’t always the case. In the beginning, there was Ramrod, the scarfaced, rockabilly psycho whose reign of terror on Ho(llywood) Boulevard anchors Gary A. Sherman’s Vice Squad, a definitive second-feature sleazterpiece.

The film’s post-Urban Cowboy tagline reads “On the street, the real trick is staying alive.” And, as played by Wings Hauser as though he gargled octane between takes, Ramrod struts into the film with Tony Manero’s rapacious mojo, coolly hunting down a trifling hooker named Ginger (MTV charter VJ Nina Blackwood) who made off with his cut, nuzzling up to the locked door of her motel hideaway and oozing charm until she unlocks the door. “I cannot believe how stupid you are,” he leers, clearly not having any time for sweets, before tying Ginger down to the vibrating mattress,...

Vanderpump Rules Scandoval Cheating Was Wild, but Rhobh Bombshell Still Reigns Supreme
Image
In the ever-dramatic world of Bravo, where scandal flows more freely than champagne at a reunion episode, cheating almost feels like a rite of passage, with some shaking foundations more than others. Over the years, we’ve seen many headline-worthy betrayals on Bravo- and sure, “Scandoval” from Vanderpump Rules stands out as a chaotic mess of the highest order, but there’s one bombshell from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 1 that still takes the cake for me.

While both betrayals shook their respective franchises, the latter has infamously been awarded the gold standard of Bravo betrayals. Interestingly, there is some common ground between the two. Lisa Vanderpump was a direct witness to both of these scandals, offering her distinct perspective.

Vanderpump Rules’ Scandoval: a sensational outrage

In March 2023, the “Scandoval” saga erupted and shook Bravo audiences to their core. In what had been a months-long affair, Tom Sandoval...

Image
Ashley Greene and Seth Green are ready to dish out laughs with a romantic comedy feature offering a modern take on relationships.

The pair are set to star in director Peter Facinelli’s forthcoming film Grace Period. Hailing from Wango Films, the movie will be introduced to buyers at Cannes this month ahead of a planned production start in August.

Grace Period centers on Willa (Greene), who impulsively decides to freeze her eggs with the help of Dr. Rubin, played by Emmy-nominated actor Matt Walsh. Things get complicated when she soon meets her ideal guy, Greg (Green), and ends up navigating this journey with the help of both men.

The indie film reunites Facinelli with Greene, his former co-star in the Twilight franchise, and Green, who starred with him in the 1998 teen rom-com Can’t Hardly Wait. Facinelli helms the feature from a script by his real-life partner, Lily Anne Harrison.

New Seth MacFarlane animated comedy series coming to Peacock with big stars
Image
Seth MacFarlane and Peacock appear to have a strong creative partnership, with the streaming platform teaming up once again with the Family Guy creator for a brand-new animated comedy. While MacFarlane already has his Ted live-action prequel series on Peacock, he's now set to expand his presence even more with a full-fledged Ted animated series.

While plot details are being kept secret, Ted: The Animated Series is said to be a sequel. It will continue the story after the first two Ted movies. Those hilariously funny comedy films, directed and co-written by MacFarlane, centered around the unexpected bond between a man named John Bennett and his foul-mouthed, magically sentient teddy bear, Ted. In addition to his behind-the-scenes work, MacFarlane also voiced the iconic character of Ted in the movies. He also currently voices the talking stuffed animal in the prequel series.

In this new animated Peacock show, MacFarlane will not...

Prime Video Pulls the Plug on Dick Wolf's New Cop Drama With 92% Audience Score
Image
Fans of On Call on Prime Video have gotten some bad news. It has been revealed that the show will not be returning with new episodes on the streaming platform, but not all hope is lost for fans of the series just yet.

Per Deadline, On Call will not be moving forward with a second season on Prime Video. The news may come as a surprise to fans, as the series was a hit with viewership, reaching No. 1 on Prime Video's streaming chart in the U.S. after simultaneously dropping all eight episodes of its freshman season in January. It was also largely enjoyed by viewers, earning a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite its mixed critics' rating of 53%.

Fans shouldn't give up hope just yet on On Call. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are reportedly shopping the series to other platforms, and given its popularity, there's a good chance...

‘On Call’ Done On Prime Video After Renewal Talks Fall Through; Drama Being Shopped To Other Buyers
Image
Exclusive: Amazon is not proceeding with a second season of half-hour action police drama On Call, from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, sources tell Deadline. The series, starring Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, has been shopped to other platforms, and two of them have engaged in discussions about a potential second season, I hear.

This is a somewhat surprising development as On Call, created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, has done well, reaching the #1 slot on Prime Video in the U.S. following the January 9 drop of all eight episodes and earning 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. (The series received mixed reactions from critics.)

Indeed, Amazon a few weeks ago approached the producers of the show about a two-season renewal, sources said. It was looking good until the offer was accompanied by a request to reduce the premium on the series, I hear. Under the widely used current cost-plus streaming compensation model,...

The wait is over.

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema revealed Thursday that Andy Serkis’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will open in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027. So far, it has the lucrative year-end corridor to itself, but that’s sure to change as other studios fill in their calendars.

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens — the Oscar-winning team behind the blockbuster The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies — are reuniting to produce two new films from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth for the Warners-owned New Line. Zane Weiner is also producing.

‘Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum’ Sets Pre-Christmas 2027 Release
Image
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have set a Dec. 17, 2027 theatrical release for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

Currently Disney has an untitled Star Wars movie in Comscore on that that 2027 date, but that probably just hasn’t been scrubbed from the system yet. As we know, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling is dated for May 28, 2027. Universal has an untitled date reservation for Dec. 22, 2027.

That’s the corridor by the way that previous Peter Jackson directed Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies have bowed within. The first of the two films The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (*Wt) will be directed by and star Andy Serkis in the title role.

The Oscar-winning team behind the blockbuster The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies — Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens — is reuniting to produce two...

For Fiona Shaw, joining the tight-knit cast of Bad Sisters for its second season on Apple TV+ brought some initial anxiety — but that quickly faded thanks to the show's “generous” cast.

“I was scared,” the Emmy- and Tony Award-nominated actress told Gold Derby on the red carpet at the show’s FYC event Saturday at the Hollywood Athletic Club. But “they all said, ‘Come out to dinner with us. Be with us.’ And they were so welcoming that I never wanted to leave them. I wanted to become an honorary ‘bad sister.’”

Shaw plays Angelica Muldoon in the dark comedy about five Irish sisters. The first season, adapted from the 2012 Belgian series Clan, was developed by executive producer and actress Sharon Horgan, who also stars as eldest sister Eva.

The second season, which Horgan expanded beyond the original source material,...

Why It’s Time for Private Practice to Scrub Back In
Image
Once upon a time, a little spinoff named Private Practice never got the chance to fully shine. Well, giving a quality show a second chance is never too late.

We’re not the only ones who feel the Kate Walsh-led series deserves another shot. The actress has expressed great interest in returning to the role of Addison Montgomery.

It’s been over a decade since the Finale of Private Practice, and in TV years, that’s more than a century — unless you ask loyal and faithful fans of the show who still rewatch it.

(ABC/Richard Cartwright)

If you’ve turned on a TV in the last, let’s say, five minutes, you probably ran into a medical drama with an attractive cast running around a hospital.

CBS welcomes any and every show with a scalpel, having premiered and renewed the Morris Chestnut-led medical mystery series Watson.

Liv Tyler Reveals She’d “Just Do Anything” To Return to Arwen and The Lord of the Rings Franchise
Image
In the many millennia since, literature became an avid means of escaping human toil, there have been many stories written and retold. And in the modern age, one can argue that none quite captures the imagination so wholly as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In the early 2000s, director Peter Jackson adapted Tolkien's tale of the Third Age of Middle-earth, with The Fellowship of the Ring, and the subsequent two films, earning Jackson's trilogy a spot in cinematic folklore. However, that journey is not ended, as May 2024 brought with it the revelation that a new wave of movies from Middle-earth would be descending upon us soon, and Liv Tyler would very much like to be a part of it.

Tolkien's stories offered us a vast array of brilliant Elven characters to adore, and in Jackson's trilogy, Tyler's Arwen stood out. The daughter of Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Celebrían,...

The Actor Behind The Lord Of The Ring's Beloved Elven Queen Wants To Return, But Should They?
Image
The Og "Lord of the Rings" crew has been in the news cycle a lot lately. With Warner Bros. planning new live-action J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptations, everyone is wondering who could show up again after a 20-year hiatus from Middle-earth acting.

You can count Liv Tyler among those ready to jump right back into the action. Tyler is, of course, famous for playing the Elven queen Arwen in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. While the character has a minor role in Tolkien's source material, Arwen is busy in the movies. She fills in for the Elf-lord Glorfindel by saving Frodo (Elijah Woods) from the Black Riders and encourages Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) to fulfill his destiny and confront Sauron. She was even filmed in various fight sequences, including the Battle of Helm's Deep (although that was later cut during post-production).

Now, Tyler has gone on record saying...

Apple Wins Streamer Auction For ‘Foster The Snowman:’ $1.6M Against $3M For Holiday Family Pitch By Jono Matt & ‘The Studio’ EP Peter Huyck
Image
Exclusive: In a heated bidding battle for a dish that would seem best served cold, Apple Studios prevailed in a 3-streamer auction and will pay $1.6 million against around $3 million for Foster the Snowman. It’s an exceptionally large deal for a holiday pitch by Jono Matt & Peter Huyck for a high concept family film that bidders hope has the makings of a holiday perennial movie in the vein of Elf, Home Alone and It’s A Wonderful Life.

Apple won the deal over rival streamers Netflix and Amazon MGM, after the writers pitched to 12 places over four days, with different elements attached around town. I’ve heard that at least one of the rival streamers might have bid higher on the upfront end, but Apple had an advantage: Huyck is EP of the streamer’s hot Hollywood insider sitcom The Studio, and also producer Kevin Walsh’s The Walsh Company has...

'It Was Such a Profound Gift': Original Lord of the Rings Stars on Possible Return in The Hunt for Gollum
Image
The next Lord of the Ringsfilm, The Hunt for Gollum, is set for release in 2027, and fans are rightfully curious about whether any of their favorite characters will return for the film.

Several of the cast members from Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy took part in a panel at AwesomeCon in Washington, D.C., hosted by ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeiser, including Liv Tyler and Orlando Bloom, who played Arwen and Legolas, respectively, in the films.

Liv Tyler: “It Was Such a Gift”

Tyler revealed the answer to the question if she would return to the franchise after appearing in all three of the original trilogy movies as Arwen.“I’d just do anything. I write to Fran (Walsh) and Philippa (Boyens),” Tyler said of the pair who were writers on The Lord of the Rings films. “I’m like, ‘Hey, is there any chance we’re going to need Arwen back?...

Original 'Lord of the Rings' Cast Members Tease Possible Franchise Return
Image
More than 20 years have passed since we last saw the Fellowship of the Ring and Frodo make their epic journey to destroy the One Ring in Middle-earth. However, it appears that the original cast of The Lord of the Rings franchise is ready to go back to Middle-earth. At least, Arwen, Samwise, Legolas and Gimli could be the ones returning in the future, as their performers didn't say no when approached with the idea of reprising their roles in a future movie of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy universe.

Original cast members Liv Tyler, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom and John Rhys-Davies appeared at an AwesomeCon panel to talk about their legacy in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hosted by Screen Rant, the panel included asking them whether they could return for another movie in the franchise. The Hunt for Gollum is reportedly in development, and it could be...

“I love it so much, but…”: The Big Bang Theory Star Who Is an Improv Legend Was Expressly Asked by the Writers to Never Go Off-script
Image
On a show where every line was locked tighter than Sheldon’s bathroom schedule, even improv legends had to stick to the script. The Big Bang Theory ran a tight writing ship, and one standout cast member known for improv chops was politely told: Don’T. Despite loving the gig, they couldn’t riff or roam off-script.

Ironically, the only unscripted line that made the cut came from someone else, and it was so good, it leveled up their role. Just goes to show, even in a sitcom built on formulas, a little improv magic can still shake things up.

Why The Big Bang Theory's Original Pilot Gave Penny A Different Name
Image
"The Big Bang Theory" has been an insanely profitable franchise for CBS, having spawned 12 seasons and 2 spin-off shows in the process. But as is the case with most cable television success stories, its fate lies upon the reception of its pilot episode. You need a good hook that could reel viewers into wanting to spend time laughing with these characters every week. Series creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady had some of the right elements in place for the show's first pilot, but there was no way "The Big Bang Theory" would have amassed its legacy had it been aired.

There were a number of bizarre choices in that unaired pilot, as laid out by /Film's Nina Starner, that signal a very different kind of sitcom from the one we ended up getting. Among one of the most notable changes is that of the female lead. Before Kaley Cuoco was brought onboard as Penny,...
