Why Andy Samberg Left SNL
Image
2005 to 2012 was very much a golden era for "Saturday Night Live", and a big part of that can be credited to Andy Samberg. He and his "Lonely Island" crew, made up of Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, brought the show into the digital age. They made digital shorts a cornerstone of modern "SNL," and they've cursed the new "Please Don't Destroy" trio to forever live in their shadow.

While Samberg was most famous for his digital material, he still showed up constantly in live sketches throughout his tenure. My personal favorite is his Larry the Goose, a "Weekend Update" recurring character who doesn't think the Miracle on the Hudson in 2009 was a miracle at all:

But despite Samberg being such an important cast member during his seven seasons on the show, in 2012 he officially called it quits. He departed at the end of season 37, a year after his fellow "Lonely...

'Land of the Lost' Series Reboot in the Works at Netflix
Image
Netflix is reportedly looking to embark on a brand-new expedition to the Land of the Lost after closing a deal with Legendary Television, the studio behind Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and HBO epic Dune: Prophecy, to bring the beloved property back to the small screen. The project is said to be in the very early stages of development, with the plan being to reboot the cult-classic sci-fi series, which aired for three seasons on CBS from 1974 to 1976, following the adventures of the Marshall family in a strange, pre-historic world.

The original series was created by David Gerrold and produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, who co-developed the popular Saturday morning children's show with Allan Foshko. Marty died in 2023, but his brother Sid, together with Marty's daughter, Deanna Krofft, who is the VP of Development and Production at their company, will reportedly produce Netflix's new take on the Land of the Lost.

Marty Krofft at an event for Walk the Line (2005)
Netflix is ready to plunge into a classic science-fiction adventure with a reboot of Sid and Marty Krofft’s 1974 TV series Land of the Lost. According to Deadline, the streamer is joining forces with Sid and Marty Krofft’s production company and Marty’s daughter, Deanna Krofft Pope, VP of Development and Production at their studio, to bring the beloved property back to small screens. Deadline says the Land of the Lost reboot is in its “very early stages” of development, with the search for a writer alive and well.

1974’s Land of the Lost revolves around a father, Rick Marshall (Spencer Milligan), and his two children, Will Marshall (Wesley Eure) and Holly Marshall (Kathy Coleman), who accidentally travel through a portal to a bizarre land populated by dinosaurs, lizard people, and other dangerous creatures that would sooner have them for dinner than let them discover a way to get home.

Exclusive: Netflix is looking to remake another classic TV series. The streamer has closed a deal with Legendary Television for Land of the Lost, a reboot of Sid and Marty Krofft’s 1974 sci-fi adventure show, Deadline has learned.

Sid and Marty Krofft as well as Marty’s daughter Deanna Krofft Pope, who is COO at their company, will produce the project, which is in very early stages, sources said. Search is underway for a writer. Reps for Netflix and Legendary TV declined comment.

7 Hidden Gems Streaming on Netflix Right Now
Image
Even when they are released in theaters, some movies still end up falling through the cracks of the public consciousness. It is only inevitable that some would, therefore, experience the same fate on streaming. Netflix, in particular, has a library full of underseen, underrated movies, most of which are not as actively promoted to users by the streamer or its algorithm as others.

A lot of those films deserve to be on subscribers’ radars, even if they have so far flown under them, so here are seven great hidden gem movies streaming on Netflix in June.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (Paramount Pictures) “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (2023)

“Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is, like directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s 2018 comedy “Game Night,” a refreshingly clever, funny and likable film. An ingenious mash-up of a heist thriller, fantasy adventure and “Monty Python”-esque comedy,...

Hulu has picked up an untitled college comedy starring Stranger Things actor Gaten Matarazzo and The Goldbergs alum Sean Giambrone.

Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher (known as the comedy duo BriTANicK) wrote and directed the feature that follows a group of college students, who order a pizza to their dorm but due to a bad drug trip, the simple journey down two flights of stairs to retrieve the pizza turns into, according to the logline, “a mind-bendingly transformative quest.”

The film is produced by Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps of American High, which was behind fellow Hulu features Plan B, Big Time Adolescence and The Binge. All Things Comedy’s Billy Rosenberg also produced, along with Jason Zaro, Max A. Butler and Molle DeBartolo. Matarazzo executive produced.

Seth Meyers Has Gotten Very Good At Not Saying Who He Thinks Should Succeed Lorne Michaels
Image
Seth Meyers is a person who doesn’t seem to have trouble filling his time. He’s been the host of Late Night With Seth Meyers since early 2014. He co-hosts the podcasts Family Trips With The Meyers Brothers with, as you might guess, his brother Josh, and The Lonely Island With Seth Meyers Podcast with, as you might also guess, The Lonely Island. He’s also partially responsible for the care of his three children and an Italian greyhound named Frisbee. Yet a segment of the population can’t stop fantasy-casting him into the role of Saturday Night Live’s next showrunner.

The question of who would succeed creator Lorne Michaels in running SNL has long been a topic of idle speculation. But this year’s celebration of the show’s 50th season has cranked it up several notches, since Michaels himself told Gayle King, back in 2021, that if he...

Seth Meyers at an event for Portlandia (2011)
The Lonely Island were embarrassed by their Grammy nod, desperately wanted to lose
Seth Meyers at an event for Portlandia (2011)
The Lonely Island very much wanted everybody to look at them when they were on a boat. But at the Grammys? Forget it! When The Lonely Island earned a surprise Grammy nomination for 2009’s “I’m on a Boat”, they had one goal in mind: to lose.

On a recent episode of their namesake podcast with Seth Meyers, the Lonely Island trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone sat down to chat about “I’m on a Boat” competing for the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy, in which they were competing against the likes of Jay-Z, Beyoncé and T.I. As Schaffer put it, “I don’t know if anyone’s ever gone to the Grammys hoping to lose more. We were like, if we win, we can’t get on stage. We were only confident enough to go cause we were that sure that we were going to lose…...

Andy Samberg Reflects on Lonely Island’s 2010 Rap Grammy Nod: It Was ‘Because We’re White!’
Image
Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer know that the Lonely Island’s rap Grammy nod for “I’m on a Boat” with T-Pain might have been a fluke.

On Monday, the trio reflected on their nomination during an episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, sharing that they apologized to T-Pain for not connecting after the song’s nomination, and admitted that the nod may have happened because they’re white boys.

“I don’t know if anyone’s ever gone to the Grammys hoping to lose more,...

Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Decipher Hidden Meanings of ‘Frasier’ Theme Song
Image
The gang on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast doesn’t mind mixing it up with listeners, especially when it comes to the mysteries of sitcom theme songs. Akiva Schaffer read one such musing last week from a loyal fan of the podcast: “Hi guys, big Frasier fan here. Part of the Crane Train. What part is sadder — the tossed salad or the scrambled eggs? Something to think about.”

The question made Andy Samberg philosophical: “I always imagine the scrambled eggs were left in the pan. It’s like the amount that didn’t get eaten.”

“Right,” agreed Jorma Taccone. “You’re too depressed to eat it.”

“They’re lonely and cold,” Samberg continued. “Whereas the tossed salads… I mean, they’re tossed. They’re exciting. They’re living their best.”

It’s always raining in Seattle, noted Taccone, who imagined rain out the window as the salad and eggs do their thing.

After Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Netflix Revives Andy Samberg’s $9M Cult Comedy Flop
Image
Over the years, Netflix has cultivated a reputation for providing a new lease of life to movies and shows that met with an unfortunate fate initially. While some actors get the second once, for Andy Samberg, the scope of a Netflix revival came twice.

After the streaming giant stood beside Samberg’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine since 2014, Netflix is now reviving the 46-year-old actor’s 2016 box-office disaster, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

When the Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping was released in 2016, it made only $9.7 million after being made on a budget of $20 million. However, over time, the film has gained moderately positive reviews and is now eyeing a second life on Netflix.

Andy Samberg’s Popstar is coming to Netflix nine years after its release

Almost nine years after its initial theatrical release, Andy Samberg’s music comedy has come on Netflix, and the streaming service took to its social media to announce the news.

‘Kung Fury 2’ Leak: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Fassbender, and David Hasselhoff Star in Wild Promo Footage
Image
A leaked promo for Kung Fury 2 just dropped online, and it’s as wild as it sounds. One of the most shocking moments? Arnold Schwarzenegger riding a dinosaur! Yes, you read that right.

Kung Fury 2, also known as Kung Fury: The Movie, is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2015 short film Kung Fury. The original film was a crazy, over-the-top tribute to 1980s sci-fi action movies and became a viral hit. Now, the feature-length sequel promises to be even more outrageous.

The film is written, directed by, and stars David Sandberg. It also features big names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Fassbender, Alexandra Shipp, David Hasselhoff, and Jorma Taccone. While the movie has been delayed for years due to legal issues over visual effects, this leaked clip has fans buzzing.

The promo video leaked last week and was confirmed as real by Sandberg himself. In the clip, you can see:...

5 Things We Learned From the Leaked 10-Minute ‘Kung Fury 2’ Footage
Image
Sometimes the world hands you lemons, and sometimes it hands you Arnold Schwarzenegger riding a dinosaur while fighting Nazis. Now, you might be wondering where this ridiculous yet oddly entertaining notion sprouted from. Well, some films make you think. Some make you cry. And then there’s Kung Fury 2: a cinematic roundhouse kick to the brain that cares little for permission, logic, or linear storytelling.

It’s been a long decade of radio silence since this neon-soaked fever dream, helmed by David Sandberg, vanished into a labyrinth of lawsuits. But now, thanks to a leaked 10-minute footage, the chaos has been unleashed… and it’s even more unhinged than anyone expected.

Note that the footage was mysteriously uploaded by an anonymous YouTube user. Variety confirmed its legitimacy, and director-star David Sandberg admitted it contains unfinished VFX and spoilers. But who cares? Here are five things we have learned from this mind-melting preview.

Kung Fury 2 Director Reacts to Sequel Footage Leaking Online After Being 'Held Hostage' for 5 Years

Fans were able to get a look at Michael Fassbender in costume for Kung Fury 2, several years after he first signed on for the movie.

Per Variety, a sizzle reel from the unreleased Kung Fury 2 has been leaked online. The video has since been taken down due to a copyright claim. The 10-minute promo opened to a cluttered attic space before a VHS tape flies into frame, replete with lightning effects and an epic synth riff before cutting away to a fantastical, day-glow cityscape replete with anthropomorphic dinosaurs and all manner of over-the-top warriors, including David Sandberg in a reprisal of his role as Kung Fury. The promo also includes a sneak peek at Michael Fassbender as Kung Fury's new partner, Colt Magnum, as well as the return of Jorma Taccone as Adolf Hitler, aka the Kung Führer.

‘Kung Fury 2’ Sizzle Reel: Michael Fassbender & Arnold Schwarzenegger Star In Leaked Footage From Absurdist Comedy
Image
“Kung Fury” was the fevered dream of Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, who crowd-sourced a wild genre-bending short film take on the cop action film by throwing all sorts of insane elements, including Vikings, dinosaurs, time-travel, and a kung fu-trained satirical version of Adolph Hitler played by Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone. And over the weekend, high-resolution footage from the long-wrapped “Kung Fury 2” that features Michael Fassbender (“Black Bag”), Alexandra Shipp (“X-Men: Apocalypse”), David Hasselhoff, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the President of the United States made its way online in the form of a 10-minute sizzle reel.

Must See Badass Sizzle Reel Promo for 'Kung Fury 2' Lost Since 2020

"I eat lions every goddamn day. If you're not prepared to do the same, then you hang up that hat, walk out that door, and you never come back..." Hell yes - I want to watch this! Some of you will remember a badass short (at 30 mins!) film from 2015 called Kung Fury, made by Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg (no relation to Shazam! director David F. Sandberg). This was his own big project and it was a huge hit when it launched online - watch here. In 2018 he started development on a full-length feature version called Kung Fury: The Movie or Kung Fury 2. He was somehow able to wrangle up Michael Fassbender, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and David Hasselhoff for the cast, and shot the film in 2019. But after legal troubles and other setbacks, the pandemic kicked in and the film has been stuck in release limbo. Word is that it's finished...

Footage Leaks From Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender's Long-Delayed Action Flick (and It's Absolutely Bonkers)
Image
Update: The leaked footage has been taken down via a copyright claim from Hammerstone Studios.Where were you the first time you learned about the short film Kung Fury? A man using martial arts to take on Adolf Hitler (Jorma Taccone)? We're invested. The very odd and exciting short film, directed by David Sandberg, was littered with 80s references, looked like a bad video game, and has become one of those things we all pass around like the VHS from The Ring. Now, the long-hidden footage of Kung Fury 2 has been leaked and it is as glorious as you'd think.

The sequel was shut down during post-production and the new 10-minute sizzle reel for the film was posted anonymously on YouTube. Variety confirmed with the filmmakers that it is legitimate footage from the film. The other time something like this has happened (and worked) was when footage of Deadpool...

Which ‘SNL’ Sketches Would Work as Movies Today, According to the Lonely Island
Image
There was once a time when any and all repeat Saturday Night Live characters stood a pretty good chance of landing their own movie, from Wayne and Garth, to the Ladies Man, to the controversial Pat. Even a sketch that was about mute cokeheads groping women in nightclubs to the sounds of Haddaway was somehow turned into a feature film.

But there hasn’t been an official SNL movie since 2010’s MacGruber — not just because the cult favorite was a box-office flop, but also because the movie industry has drastically changed since the ‘90s. And as MovieWeb once pointed out, in the 2000s, SNL’s breakout stars, such as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, successfully launched post-SNL careers on television, rather than on the big screen.

Will we ever get another SNL movie? At one point in the recent past, there was talk of making a movie focused on Bill Hader’s Stefon,...

'MacGruber' Director Reveals Val Kilmer "Refused to Do" One Joke
Image
Actors in comedies are frequently called upon to sacrifice themselves on the altar of dignity to bring a gag to life. In Will Forte's 2010 SNL-original comedy MacGruber, several of these ego-killer visual gags are on full display - such as Forte's celery distraction scene, an image forever emblazoned on most viewers' minds. But in a movie rife with silly bits and crude jokes, there was one joke that the late Val Kilmer, who played the dastardly villain Dieter Von Cunth, refused to do.

In a recent appearance on The Lonley Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, MacGruber director Jorma Taccone recalled making the film and where the Top Gun star drew the line on what he was willing to do for comedy:

"There was one joke, though, that he refused to do. We did want to cut his penis off and shove it in his mouth. That was...

'He Was Saying That He Was a King': MacGruber Director Recalls Bizarre First Meeting With the Late Val Kilmer
Image
Writer-director Jorma Taccone discusses his bizarre first meeting with Hollywood icon and MacGruberstar Val Kilmer.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Taccone recently recalled driving out to Malibu to meet Kilmer at his home for a conversation about his role as the villainous Dieter Von Cunth in 2010's MacGruber feature film. "I go in the house, and he's on the balcony...throwing these little chips or something into the ocean, and he's going, 'Are you a king? Are you a king?' I was like, 'What? What?' And he comes back into the room. He's turned away from me. And he comes back into the room, and he starts tossing these little paper chips at me...and I'm like, 'What are these?"

"And I started looking at them, and it takes me, like, a couple minutes to figure out that he was invited to Mardi Gras that year to play King Bacchus,...

The Forgotten Will Ferrell & Danny McBride Sci-Fi Flop That Lost Millions
Image
Brad Silberling's 2009 film "Land of the Lost" was a feature-length spoof of the 1974 NBC adventure series co-created by Sid & Marty Krofft. The Krofft shows of the '70s and '80s were all fantasy programs that typically centered on parallel universes, fun puppets, and wild monster costumes.

Their "Land of the Lost," which ran for 43 episodes over its three seasons, was the Kroffts' headiest, least comedic series. It followed the adventures of Rick (Spencer Milligan) and his kids Will (Wesley Eure) and Holly (Kathy Coleman) as they accidentally crash through a dimensional portal while whitewater rafting. They arrived in a prehistoric world overrun by dinosaurs and a species of Sasquatch-like protohumans called Pakuni. There are also wicked, threatening humanoid reptiles in this universe called Sleestaks who live in a series of underground chambers. There are magical crystals in the caves, as well as mysterious obelisks that may have the...

Tom Cruise Almost Made A Surprise Cameo In A Top Gun SNL Sketch With Val Kilmer
Image
"Top Gun" star Tom Cruise has a memorable big screen history with Val Kilmer. Not only did the two actors rise to fame in the 1980s, but they played rivals in the blockbuster air combat film that would eventually result in a sequel that gave them a heartfelt reunion. That sequel also served as a fond farewell for Kilmer, who had been suffering from throat cancer but still managed to make a wonderful appearance in "Top Gun: Maverick," where his previously cocky character Tom "Iceman" Kazansky was suffering from the same ailment as Kilmer in real life, eventually dying in the movie years before Kilmer would actually pass away in 2025.

However, Cruise and Kilmer almost had a much different "Top Gun" reunion on the small screen over two decades earlier, thanks to "Saturday Night Live."

In a recent episode of "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast," which is a must-listen for fans of "SNL,...

This Is the One Joke Val Kilmer Wouldn’t Do in ‘MacGruber’
Image
Give the late Val Kilmer credit for good taste and common sense. While Kilmer was an extremely good sport while making the MacGruber movie, explained director Jorma Taccone on a recent episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, there was one extreme gag that he refused to do. “We did want to cut his penis off and shove it in his mouth,” Taccone confessed. “That was the one joke that he did not want to do.”

That was “especially a good decision on his part,” noted Meyers.

The Late Night host couldn’t believe Kilmer would do the role at all. “I think not only would 85 percent of actors not want to play a character named Peter von Cunth,” Meyers said, “I think probably 99 percent of agents don’t want to call their clients and say, ‘Hey, there’s a part I think you’re perfect for.”

Taccone was shocked as well.

The Last Time Jack Black Hosted ‘SNL’ the Show Changed Forever
Image
Jack Black is set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend for the first time in nearly 20 years, and his fourth time overall. Tenacious D also served as the show’s musical guest in a 2006 episode, but presumably that won’t count toward a Five-Timers Club jacket.

Black’s last hosting effort was pretty solid. Memorably, he kicked off the show by belting out his unused tie-in song for Peter Jackson’s King Kong, which eventually devolved into a series of musical confessions about how he can’t actually read and once peed in Jackson’s coffee pot during the production.

This particular episode also happened to feature one of the most significant moments in SNL’s history.

Sandwiched between a sketch about TV news anchors and a performance from musical guest Neil Young came the second-ever SNL Digital Short: “Lazy Sunday,” which found Chris Parnell and new cast member...

The Late Val Kilmer Was ‘Proud of How Bad’ ‘MacGruber’ Turned Out
Image
Movie legend Val Kilmer passed away yesterday at the age of 65, but his memory will live on in the hearts of the dozens of comedy fans who saw MacGruber in theaters.

The 2010 action/comedy MacGruber, based on the Saturday Night Live sketch by the same name, may have been a total flop at the box office, failing to even earn back its $10 million budget, but at least it earned the scorn of the critical community to match its commercial failure. As it turns out, neither moviegoers nor movie reviewers at the time had any interest in seeing a profane, illogical and hilariously dated feature-length adaptation of an overdone SNL sketch that parodied a TV show that had been off the air for nearly 20 years. However, MacGruber’s titular star Will Forte and his onscreen nemesis Kilmer didn’t give a cut-off dick about what anyone else thought of their glorious turd of a comedy masterpiece.

Why ‘SNL’s Dirtiest Digital Short Was Allowed to Air Uncensored
Image
While many of Saturday Night Live’s Digital Shorts involved innocent boat trips and The Chronicles of Narnia, some were quite risqué, such as “Dick in a Box,” the recent “Sushi Glory Hole,” and the one in which Tom Hanks begged people not to mutilate his testicles through song.

But the filthiest Digital Short of all time may have been 2008’s “Jizz in My Pants,” the music video starring The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone as two suave guys who can’t help but prematurely ejaculate — whether it’s because they’re making out with a hot stranger at a club, or simply finding out that Bruce Willis was a ghost at the end of The Sixth Sense.

If you’re surprised that this bodily fluid-filled sketch made it to the air, well, so are the guys who made it.

On the most recent episode of The...

'Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping' Lands Surprise Streaming Release on Prime Video
Image
Every now and then, a true cinematic classic flies so far under the radar that its destiny to become a cult favorite is clear right from the start. Such was the case with the 2016 mockumentary musical comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which stars Saturday Night Live alumnus and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg as Conner "Kid Conner" Friel, a pop star struggling to go solo after being part of the rap group phenomenon The Style Boyz.

Grossly missed by many upon release, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping has now landed on Prime Video, and we urge you to either discover or rediscover this modern comedy masterpiece. Directed by The Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone and written by and starring fellow The Lonely Island member Andy Samberg, as well as Taccone, and Schaffer, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping was co-produced by Judd Apatow and Rodney Rothman.

One of the Most Inspirational ‘80s Comedies Was Secretly Inspired by Mel Brooks
Image
1982’s Diner was the comedy that dared to ask: What if some dudes hung out in a greasy spoon restaurant and just talked about stuff?

The movie starred Steve Guttenberg, Mickey Rourke, Daniel Stern, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Barkin and Paul Reiser, just to name a few. It followed a group of friends in the late ‘50s who routinely meet at the local diner to chat about the music, sex and the minutiae of their day-to-day lives.

While that concept may not sound all that novel today, at the time, it was so unusual for mainstream entertainment, that some found it tough to grasp. According to writer-director Barry Levinson, during the editing process, a studio executive tried to get him to cut an argument over a roast beef sandwich because it didn’t do anything to “advance the story.”

'Just S**t the Bed': Will Forte Recalls MacGruber Flopping at Box Office 15 Years Later
Image
Will Forte has looked back at his Saturday Night Live spinoff MacGruber bombing at the box office. The 2010 comedy infamously debuted to harsh reviews and subsequently underperformed at financially as well.

MacGruber was based on Forte's recurring SNL sketches in which he played a MacGyver-like hero whose attempts to diffuse dangerous situations almost always failed miserably. Despite the movie being packed with SNL stars – including Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph – the project's failure was seen as a black mark on Forte's potential as a movie star.

Will Forte Reflects on MacGruber's failure

Forte candidly reflected on MacGruber's failure during a recent interview with Ted Danson on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast (via Entertainment Weekly). He admitted that the project bombing was particularly hurtful since it came out only a week after SNL's triumphant season finale.

"The movie came out and just s*** the bed, just did tremendously badly,...

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg Saved Will Forte’s Career After ‘MacGruber’ Crashed and Burned
Image
Thankfully, Will Forte didn’t have to beg some fellow SNL alumni to help him get his career back on track after the failure of MacGruber. We all know what he gets like when he starts begging.

On paper, the 2010 feature film adaptation of a Lorne-Michaels-beloved SNL character had all of the makings of a blockbuster: MacGruber was a movie parody of a TV show that hadn’t been on the air in 18 years at the time of release, a YouTuber who had never shot anything much longer than “I’m on a Boat” wrote and directed the film and, most promisingly, MacGruber was an R-rated comedy that released on the exact same night as the fourth Shrek movie. MacGruber had everything going for it, but, on a $10 million budget, it somehow failed to even hit eight figures at the box office, and it landed near the top of the...

Why Charlie Day’s Happy Madison Movie Never Happened
Image
In addition to his decades of TV work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Charlie Day has had a pretty solid movie career. He got to help fight giant monsters in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, plotted the murder of Jennifer Aniston in Horrible Bosses and voiced Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

He also did something in Louis C.K.’s creepy movie that we’re not totally sure about because it was never released and all existing copies were buried in New Mexico next to all the E.T. Atari games, we assume.

Day also came close to starring in a promising buddy comedy, produced by Adam Sandler’s company Happy Madison, along with Andy Samberg. Until one fateful table read, that is.

On the most recent episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, Samberg and his co-hosts fielded a voicemail question from Steve Agee, who...

The $100,000,000 Will Ferrell Sci-fi Comedy That Features Leonard Nimoy Will Always Have My Support Despite Bombing Hard
Image
Alright, just hear me out. Will Ferrell hit it big with SNL and has made some true classics such as Elf, Stranger Than Fiction, and Anchorman. While that phase of his career was all great and polished, the style of his sometimes crass and all-time dumb humor hit its pinnacle in the mid and late 2000s and 2010s with films like Step Brothers and Talladega Nights.

Taking characters who were fringe personality types was a masterstroke from Ferrell. He did the same, but on a much larger and disastrous scale, with the adventure comedy Land of the Lost. It was a box office bomb and received only negative reviews from critics but I feel it is still hilarious when you look at it through the right lens.

I still love Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost despite what the critics say A still from Land of the Lost | Credits:...

The ‘SNL50: Homecoming Concert’ Had Everything: Kevin Costner Losing It to Cher, Jerry Seinfeld Singing Backstreet Boys, and Lady Gaga with Her D**k in a Box
Image
Kicking off with a tribute to the Blues Brothers from the evening’s host Jimmy Fallon, last night’s “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” pulled out all the stops in celebrating the show’s rich musical history, as well as the influence music has had on its comedy. And though Fallon made sure to start the affair at Radio City Music Hall by pointing out that everyone in the room had some form of connection to “Saturday Night Live” and were not there as casual spectators, watching at home, its clear the production worked hard to place fans of the staple variety series right at the the center of the action as well.

The first singer of the evening was Miley Cyrus. After a rendition of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” accompanied by The Roots (they served as the house band for the evening) and Brittany Howard, Cyrus gave...
