For many fans, Sailor Moon brings to mind the iconic 1990s anime or the original manga by Naoko Takeuchi. But in 2003, the franchise took a surprising leap into live action with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, a lesser-known TV drama that adapted the beloved magical-girl story into a tokusatsu-style format. Now, after two decades off the air, this long-lost gem is making a rare return.
According to the official Sailor Moon website, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon will begin airing weekly reruns on Japan’s Toei Channel starting July 4. Episodes will be broadcast every Friday and Saturday, marking the first time this series has returned to Japanese TV since it concluded in 2004. For longtime fans, it is an unexpected reunion with a cult classic.

In 2003, Toei brought the Sailor Moon franchise to life as an official live-action TV series. While the drama is relatively obscure compared to the original manga and anime, particularly overseas, it's now set to receive a new broadcast slate.
According to the official Sailor Moon website, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (2003) is scheduled to air weekly on Toei Channel in Japan starting Friday, July 4 (Jst). Reruns of the 49+ episode series are slated to air every Friday from 5-6 p.m. and every Saturday from 8-9 a.m. This information was later confirmed by Sailor Moon's official Japanese X (formerly Twitter) page in a post that also spotlights the series' live-action cast. July 4 will mark the show's first return to domestic broadcast since the finale's airing in September 2004.

Both Sabu and the zombie genre seem to be at their best in this low-budget hidden gem, which won a number of awards internationally, including ones in Dhaka Interantional, Fantasporto, and the Grand Prize at Gérardmer.
In a world where zombies have become pets, a cage with one of them arrives in Dr. Teramoto’s house. Her guidelines mention that her name is Shara and that she should not be fed meat, just fruit and vegetables. The “package” even includes a gun, in case something goes wrong.
Shizuko, the doctor’s wife, whom he does not seem to appreciate at all, orders her to scrub the courtyard, and feeds her with rotten food, a practice repeated every day. Additionally, Shara’s daily routine includes a gang of youngsters that attack her every day and Kenichi, the youngest son of the family, who constantly takes pictures of her.

If you missed it last fall, The Houses October Built 2 comes home this week, and cult film fans should keep an eye out for Miss Zombie from Redemption Films, too.
Other January 2nd releases include Bigfoot Country, Dystopia, Anna, Death Island Paranormal Retribution, No Solicitors, and The Body Tree.
