If you still remember teen fantasy shows like The Vampire Diaries and Riverdale that went on for far too long, even after their stories had no steam left, but you might not remember the shows in this list, as they had so much more story to tell, but they were canceled way too soon. Teen fantasy shows were all the rage in the 2010s and that’s why there were so many of them but most of them didn’t hit as hard as The Vampire Diaries or Teen Wolf, but that doesn’t mean that the shows that were canceled were not as good or even better then these two shows. That’s the reason why we decided to compile a list of seven great (or underrated) teen fantasy shows that had great potential but were canceled way too soon.

Earlier this fall, HBO and Channel 4 shared their new collaboration Get Millie Black with international audiences. Developed by prolific Jamaican novelist Marlon James, the series was filmed in 2022 and began airing this November.

The series follows Millie-Jean Black (Tamara Lawrence), a Jamaican detective serving the Jamaican Police Force after being controversially ousted by Scotland Yard. Known for her independence and resourcefulness, Black moves at her own pace, disregarding traditional police protocol. The production team behind Netflix’s Black Mirror has a new series, Toxic Town, set to arrive on the streaming platform sometime this year. Netflix has released the first image (above) for the four-part limited series starring Jodie Whittaker and Robert Carlyle, which traces the true story of the Corby toxic waste case from the UK.

A town in Northamptonshire, Corby was once home to steel works which were shuttered in 1981. However, the toxic waste left behind contaminated the area, leading to health issues for those who lived there. An investigation and subsequent case found that the Corby Borough Council’s actions in moving the waste led to birth defects, namely, an above-average number of Corby residents born with upper-limb defects. Remember when the whole world tuned in to watch Game of Thrones no matter the time and discussed key plot elements and character deaths before they ruined it all with the final season? Those were some good times. Still, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff created a global phenomenon based on George R.R. Martin’s novel series.

One of the biggest reasons for Game of Thrones to work the way it did was its incredible casting. From Peter Dinklage to Lena Headey, the ensemble cast brought their A-game to the show and made it work so well. “Get Millie Black” is exactly what it sounds like: Someone is on the run, but who can stop them?

Well, perhaps the ex-Scotland Yard detective of the title. Tamara Lawrance stars as Millie-Jean Black, an investigator who returns to Kingston, Jamaica to work missing persons cases.

Per the official synopsis, Millie “soon finds herself on a quest to save a sibling who won’t be saved, to find a child who can’t be found, to solve a case that will blow her world apart and prove almost as tough to crack as Millie Black.”

The HBO limited series is created and executive produced by Booker Prize award-winning author Marlon James. Joe Dempsie, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, and Chyna McQueen co-star.

Let's be honest: not every "Game of Thrones" episode is a winner. Sure, the show's first four seasons are basically unimpeachable — and I think a strong argument can be made that, in the aftermath of a particularly bleak fifth entry, season 6 is actually really good — but the drop-off in quality when you get into the show's (frequently derided) later seasons is quite apparent, resulting in some really rough episodes. So, which ones are the absolute worst of the worst?

Because I can't nominate "all of season 7 and 8" for this dubious honor, I made some tough decisions and chose the five absolute crappiest "Game of Thrones" episodes, though there were some contenders I couldn't include here. Basically anything involving the Dorne plotline could have qualified, or anything involving the faceless assassin school in Braavos that beats the spirit out of Maisie Williams' Arya Stark. HBO has released a first look at its five-episode original limited series Get Millie Black, which was created and executive produced by Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James.

Get Millie Black will debut on Monday, November 25 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt) on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. The series will also air on Channel 4 next year.

In the series, ex-Scotland Yard detective Millie-Jean Black returns to Kingston to work missing person cases, soon finding herself on a quest to save a sibling who won’t be saved, to find a child who can’t be found, to solve a case that will blow her world apart and prove almost as tough to crack as Millie Black.

The cast includes Tamara Lawrance, Joe Dempsie, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, and Chyna McQueen. The series, which was filmed in Jamaica and London, is produced by HBO and Channel 4 by Motive Pictures.

Television is a masterful medium and screenwriters often have to rely on a series of complex techniques in order to remain competitive in this bustling industry. Some prefer to ramp up the tension with dramatic scenes, while some creatives enjoy using a wealth of animation styles to push viewers into a completely bonkers world. Yet, breaking the fourth wall seems to be a favored technique among even some of the most established writers and directors.

Dempsie, who played Gendry Baratheon in Game of Thrones, will be playing an unspecified role in the film Truckload, which will star Jodie Whittaker, known for her role as the Thirteenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Joining him in the cast are Adam Ali (from Waterloo Road and Little America), Cathy Tyson (from Boiling Point and Criminal Record) and Lara McDonnell (from Belfast and Artemis Fowl). Truckload is a comedy/drama hybrid that tells the story of Lizzie (played by writer-actress Evie Jones) returning to Manchester after a life-altering traffic accident. The film is based on Jones' own life experiences. It will be directed by Aella Jordan-Edge and produced by Arpita Ashok and Victoria Emslie.

Joe Dempsie leads a wave of new additions to the cast of “Truckload,” winner of Primetime’s Empower Fund at Cannes 2024, in partnership with Funding Futures, the funding arm of Bournemouth Film School.

Joining Dempsie are Adam Ali, Cathy Tyson and Lara McDonnell. The project, starring Jodie Whittaker, aims to champion female and non-binary filmmakers.

“Truckload,” a comedy-drama based on writer-actress Evie Jones’ real-life experience, follows Lizzie (played by Jones) as she returns to Manchester after a life-changing traffic accident. The film explores her recovery journey and the impact on her relationships.

Steven Soderbergh’s spooky ghost story Presence — starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan and newcomer Callina Liang — will receive its international premiere as part of the Centerpiece sidebar at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival.
