It was clear that Disney had a hit on its hands back at CinemaCon, when a sizzle reel showed Stitch popping up in several Mouse House movies. That was further accentuated by recently named Global Distribution Boss Andrew Cripps taking the stage at Caesar’s Las Vegas Colosseum in a Stitch jacket alongside IP mastermind, Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman.
Yes, Disney did have a plan that it’d make less live-action features based on classic animated titles. However, sometimes the company can’t help itself, and that’s for the better. Because when you’re sitting on a brand that rakes in billions annually in global retail, go for it. Last year alone, Lilo & Stitch consumer products generated an estimated $2.5 billion-plus, according to sources, and was one of 11 evergreen franchises for The Walt Disney Company that surpassed $1 billion-plus in retail sales in 2024.

Lilo & Stitch are back in live-action, and their new “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” is complete with several familiar songs as well as Elvis Presley hits.
New and familiar faces complete the cast of Disney’s remake of the 2002 animated classic, with several well-known actors voicing the alien characters from Stitch’s world. Even some actresses who voiced characters in the original movie make appearances in the live-action film. Sydney Agudong’s Nani even performs a song or two for her younger sister, whose hula classes also call for music.
The sisters’ love of music, vinyl and the King of Rock and Roll is evident in the live-action remake of their beloved story. Native Hawaiian Bruno Mars also had a hand in a few musical contributions to the movie.

Lilo and Stitch are riding a Hawaiian roller-coaster back into theaters this weekend, but unlike that mischievous blue alien, the live-action remake looks poised to clean up. Tracking for the film's four-day opening over the Memorial Day weekend puts its predicted haul at a record $165 million, which would certainly be a bounce back for Disney after the debacle of Snow White.
The original Lilo & Stitch snagged a Best Animated Feature nomination back in 2003, but does this live-action ohana have what it takes to make it back to Oscar night? Here are the categories in which the new Lilo & Stitch could be competitive come awards season.

American Idol might have a new champion in Abi Carter, but Season 21 winner Iam Tongi is not letting fans forget about him as he’s just released two new cover songs. Tongi, who became the first Pacific Islander to win the long-running competition series in 2023, has recorded versions of some of the island hits he grew up listening to in Kahuku, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. This includes a cover of Kolohe Kai’s “Cool Down” and a rendition of Spawnbreezie’s “Dont Let Go” (which he performed on Idol). “I chose ‘Cool Down’ because we all need to take time to relax with all our family and friends and ‘Don’t Let Go’ because I would love the fans to continue to hold on for the ride,” Tongi said in a statement. Tongi first auditioned for American Idol in Season 20 but failed to get past the initial screening.

American Idol is no stranger to pushing certain contestant's narratives forward on the show. Many fans have blasted American Idol for force-feeding Season 21 winner Iam Tongi's tale into every opportunity they could find. While it can never be proven, many have speculated that the sympathy garnered towards him aided in his victory. Season 22 has featured a lot of heartwarming and heartbreaking stories that have teetered on the line of overkill. But when Idol has a famous relative they can exploit, they take every chance to drop the name. Such is the case of Season 22's Emmy Russell.

The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Jayna Elise and Roman Collins. They were the only artists in the Top 12 that failed to earn enough votes from viewers to make it into next week’s all-important Top 10. Host Ryan Seacrest delivered the unfortunate news in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The guest mentor for “Billboard #1 Hits” night was Meghan Trainor.
Throughout the competition, Jayna sang tunes like “The Climb” (Auditions round), “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” (Showstopper round), “Confident” (Top 24 round), “My All”, “All I Wanted”, “I Have Nothing” (Top 14 round) and “Diamonds” (Top 12 round). The 22-year-old performer from Washington, D.C. actually began her journey last year on “Idol,” but was eliminated prior to the Season 21 live shows. The good news is that she made it much further this time around.

In the end, the two singers who were eliminated were Nya and Jordan Anthony.
Throughout the competition, Nya sang tunes like “Wait a Minute!” (Auditions round), “Get Ready” (Showstopper round), “The Best” (Top 24 round), “Georgia on My Mind”, “Water” and “I Say a Little Prayer” (Top 14 round). A Golden Idol spin-off for seniors aged 55+ would transform American Idol. Older contestants with years of life experience and musical knowledge would offer new perspectives. Golden Idol would encourage older aspiring singers to pursue their dreams and showcase their talents, inspiring others to do the same.
American Idol is a reality singing competition series that's been a tremendous success since it debuted in 2002, and a Golden Idol spin-off would transform the show. Currently, American Idol contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 28, but a spin-off that requires singers to be 55 years old or more would be an intriguing and entertaining change for the show. ABC had a huge hit with The Golden Bachelor, a reality dating series that's exclusively for senior contestants, so now it's time for the network to give older people the chance to showcase their musical talents.
