Netflix's latest sports comedy, which debuted late last month, is off to a flying start. Running Point, starring the talented Kate Hudson in its lead role, was renewed for a second season just one week after its release. Given that Netflix takes its time to analyze the numbers before renewing a series, the incredibly quick renewal of Running Pointstands as a testament to the faith that the streamer has in the series.
Created for screens by Mindy Kaling, alongside Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, Running Point centers on the Gordon family and their legacy in professional basketball. Loosely drawing inspiration from real life, the series chronicles its protagonist, Isla Gordon, as she navigates leading the Los Angeles Waves Basketball team. Her path isn't easy, as she faces challenge after challenge from her team, her family, and even her romantic partner. However, in weaving a narrative of both heart and humor,...

Netflix's Running Pointdebuted on February 27, 2025, and instantly rose to the top of the streamer's charts. The heartfelt and endearing narrative of the series blends professional basketball with family dynamics and unassuming humor, making Running Point the perfect binge-watch. Note: This story contains spoilers from “Running Point” Season 1, Episode 10.
“Running Point” wraps up its first season by pushing forward the love triangle that has been running through the mind of Kate Hudson’s Isla Gordon all season.
After a season full of tension building between Isla and Waves coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), distance grows between Isla and her fiancé, Lev (Max Greenfield), who calls off their engagement in the penultimate episode. By the finale, Jay kisses Isla after the big game, despite preparing to leave the Waves to be closer to his kids in Boston.
“She loves Lev and she has been in it for a long time, and maybe there is a bit of a reason why they have waited so long to pull the trigger and get married, but she really loves him, and he’s very stable,” Ike Barinholtz, who created the show alongside Mindy Kaling and David Stassen,...

The Last of Us Season 2 trailer has got fans hyped up for another season of HBO’s one of the most popular series. Based on Naughty Dog’s video game, the first season followed the game’s premise of Joel escorting the immune teenager Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States. Season 2 will partly follow The Last of Us Part II, where the character Abby becomes the protagonist.

Abby is a hated character in the game universe and actress Kaitlyn Dever, who was cast in the role, has already faced immense hatred online. However, even Abby haters were horrified by one scene in the game where she was put through torture when captured by the Seraphites. From the trailer, it appears that Bella Ramsey’s Ellie might have a similar scene in the series.

Check the scoreboard before you keep reading: this article contains spoilers for season 1 of "Running Point."
Ever since she got her start on "The Office," Mindy Kaling has become a seriously major producer and writer — and her latest project, "Running Point," is making a huge splash on Netflix. As an original series for the platform, it's ranking high in the streamer's top 10 after dropping its first season on February 27, 2025 ... and whether you're a basketball diehard or you barely know how the game is played, I can tell you the show is definitely worth checking out.
When we first meet Isla Gibson (Kate Hudson), she's working as the coordinator of charitable endeavors for the Los Angeles Waves basketball team alongside her siblings — her younger half-brother Sandy ("The Other Two" standout Drew Tarver) is the company's chief financial officer, and her younger brother Ness (Scott MacArthur), a former player, works as the team's general manager.

Netflix debuted its latest sports-centered comedy, Running Point, on February 27, 2025. Starring the talented Kate Hudson in its lead role, the series is created by Mindy Kaling, together with Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. Comprising ten episodes, each spanning around thirty minutes, Running Point is shaping up to be the perfect binge-watch with its heartfelt, endearing narrative.
The series centers on the Gordon family, specifically the only Gordon sister, Isla (Kate Hudson), as she navigates helming the Los Angeles Waves basketball team. The presidency of the Waves is abruptly handed to her when her elder brother, Cam Gordon, is caught up in a drug scandal that sends him into rehabilitation. Running Point, although a comedy, touches on poignant themes revolving around family and relationships, weaving a narrative of ambition, legacy and personal growth. While audiences tuning into the series may have expected a happy, all-is-well ending, the series does throw some last-minute twists at viewers.

Kate Hudson has had a robust career, but “Running Point” marks a first for the actress. Believe it or not, this is her first leading TV role.
Now streaming on Netflix, the series focuses on Isla Gordon (Hudson), as she’s unexpectedly given control of her family’s basketball team, the Waves. Though a fictional team and story, “Running Point” is loosely based on Lakers president Jeanie Buss.
Here are all the major players you’ll need to know in the series.

What a season, huh? Of course, we're talking about the Los Angeles Waves basketball season in Netflix's new original comedy series Running Point. It was a real nail-biter from start to finish. But we're also obviously talking about the series itself, which was nothing be a pure, hilarious, and engaging delight from beginning to end.
When the season begins, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) rises through the ranks of her family to replace her older brother Cam (Justin Theroux) as president of their family's professional basketball team. Peak TV may technically be in the past, but its specter still lingers. How else do you get two flashy, star-studded TV shows about the Los Angeles Lakers in the span of three years? The first, HBO’s “Winning Time,” dramatized the basketball team’s years of triumph in the 1980s; the latest, Netflix’s “Running Point,” is both more contemporary and more fictional, though it has closer ties to the actual Lakers organization through owner Jeanie Buss and front office fixture Linda Rambis, both executive producers.
“Running Point” can and does stand on its own, but it’s useful to drill down on the comparison to “Winning Time” to establish why the newer show may stand a stronger chance at long-term success. Some of that potential comes down to shared strengths: like “Winning Time,” “Running Point” is as packed with famous faces, as any tribute to Hollywood’s home team ought to be.

Make some way for Netflix! The streaming service is dribbling down the court and shooting nothing but straight buckets with its latest original comedy series. Kate Hudson might be best known for her romantic comedies on the big screen, but the Oscar-nominated movie star is tackling her first leading role in a comedy series with Netflix's new sitcom Running Point.
She's not the only big name attached to the series. There are plenty more familiar faces in the main and supporting cast, but behind the scene, there's an even bigger name. None other than The Office and The Mindy Project (not to mention Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls) mastermind Mindy Kaling co-created the series, which she also writes and executive produces.

“Four Down,” a documentary based on Nick Schuyler and Jere Longman’s best-selling book “Not Without Hope,” will open the 20th edition of the Sunscreen Film Festival on April 24 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Directed by Steven Cantor, the docu examines Schuyler’s harrowing 2009 rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard, 43 hours after a tragic boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico claimed the lives of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and Schuyler’s best friend and former University of South Florida teammate Will Bleakley. Schuyler was found near death, clinging to the engine mount of the capsized vessel 70 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
The 95-minute hybrid doc was filmed on location in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, and at Lantica Studios in the Dominican Republic. For the film’s reenactment sequences, Cantor enlisted current commissioned U.S. Coast Guard members and officers. Interviews with Schuyler, members of the NFL community,...

Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us comes out on April 13, 2025. Season 2 will follow the game so we can expect to be introduced to Abby Anderson and her story. With Kaitlyn Dever taking on the role, the series has the opportunity to expand on one key aspect of her backstory that was cut from Naughty Dog’s second game.
The first season was a big success we’re hyped for Season 2. | Image Credit: HBO
According to Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in the game, there was a deleted flashback revealing Abby’s history with Wlf leader Isaac Dixon. The scene would’ve given us more context into their relationship and explained why he was so forgiving of her betrayal. Let’s hope it makes it to Season 2.
Abby’s story will be a big part of The Last of Us Season 2 And this cut content would add a lot of weight to it.

Fans of PlayStation’s The Last of Us were confused when actress Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You and Dopesick) was cast to play Abby in the second season of HBO’s hit series. Abby from The Last of Us Part II is best described as having arms, strength, and shoulders that would make an Olympic athlete jealous. It’s more than an appearance. It played into things that happened at the end of the game.
I recently wrote an article explaining why Abby doesn’t have to be big to be impactful. The biggest point is that this isn’t the video game universe. Certain things from the source material were altered in the show. For example, Joel didn't have panic attacks, and how he and Ellie met Sam and Henry was different. In both cases, it added depth to the story (and got Nick Offerman an Emmy...

The Last of Us season 2’s new trailer has a lot of great teases for the show’s adaptation of The Last of Us Part II, but there’s one detail in particular that shouldn’t be ignored. The latest trailer for The Last of Us season 2 promises that the HBO series won’t waste any time getting into the bulk of the game. It shows Ellie and Dina on the road to revenge in Seattle. It shows Abby in the hospital corridor, right before she finds her dad murdered. Clearly, there won’t be much filler.
There are a few exciting details in the new trailer that suggest where the season is going. For starters, it confirms that The Last of Us season 2 will premiere in April, just a few short months away. It shows Ellie and Dina dancing at Jackson,...

Alien: Romulus is out now in theaters, and by all accounts the latest installment of the Alien franchise is a success. Made on an $80 million budget by Evil Dead director Fede Álvarez, Romulus has passed the $225 million mark at the global box office and is still going strong. Deadline reports that it has already made around 94% of that the previous Alien movie, 2017's Alien: Covenant, made in its entire run, and that movie cost more to make. Not bad at all!
There are a lot of factors that are helping Alien: Romulus do as well as it has, but for my money a big part of it is that this film leans into the franchise's horror roots, delivering a fairly straightforward story about a group of desperate young scavengers who end up stranded on a derelict space station that becomes infested by the iconic xenomorphs. Rachel Maddow is getting into the feature documentary business.
The MSNBC host has produced her first feature-length doc through her production banner Surprise Inside, with the cable channel acquiring the project. MSNBC will debut the film next month.
The film, From Russia With Lev, chronicles the scheme that led to former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. “It follows the much, much larger-than-life journey of Lev Parnas, a Ukrainian-born hustler and former small-time mafia operator whose random, almost accidental association with Trump and Trump attorney Rudolph Giuliani took him around the world, and ultimately to prison,” per the logline.
The film will have its world premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which is playing host to MSNBC’s Democracy 2024 event on Sept. 7. The premiere is one of the signature pieces of the event.
Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami) directed the film, with Maddow serving as executive producer.

The documentary will debut at the network’s massive live event, “MSNBC Live: Democracy 2024,” on Sept. 7 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The film will debut on MSNBC later in September.

The biggest challenge for The Last of Us season 2 is to make TV audiences empathize with Abby without the benefit of gameplay. Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby in the TV series, recreating the best scenes from The Last of Us Part II. HBO has a history of making audiences empathize with morally ambiguous characters, like Abby, in other shows.

The Last of Us season 2s biggest challenge will be making the audience empathize with Abby without the benefit of gameplay, but its HBOs signature move to make audiences empathize with the last character they expected to empathize with. After season 1 adapted the first game, season 2 will begin to tackle the epic narrative of The Last of Us Part II, presumably with a similar chronology. The Last of Us Part 2 is a brutally violent game that explores the consequences of revenge and cyclical violence. Ellie is unable to find closure regarding Joel's death, and mistakenly believes revenge is the only means to accomplish it. Ellie's actions at the end of Tlou 2 are difficult to understand, but they stem from the series' ideas on found families and the capacity for forgiving the unforgivable.
Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2 is a devastating tale of parallel protagonists. Its inciting incident is a brutal torture sequence, and the game only spirals into more stomach-turning violence from there on. By the time Tlou 2 reaches its unflinchingly bloody finale, it's difficult to feel as though something has actually been accomplished after experiencing a narrative that has only plummeted wildly into chaos. The Last of Us Part 2's core tenet seems to be a warning that violence only begets violence,...

Kerry Washington is furious that ex-convicts are required to identify as so in their job applications in a world where Donald Trump can still run for president. Here’s what she has to say about the confusing stance.
Kerry Washington – Reveals Reason Donald Trump’s Conviction Heavily Influenced How She Views The Justice System
The race to the White House is heating up, and so far, it seems likely to skew towards Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and Kerry Washington has one question to ask: if Donald Trump has been convicted on multiple counts, why is he running for president? In fact the question was so mind-blowing that she eventually had to ask herself “what is a felon?”

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II served as a perfect continuation of Ellie and Joel’s journey through a post-apocalyptic world but no one was prepared for the unexpected death of Joel. In a past interview, the game’s director Neil Druckmann, revealed that many emotional parts of the game were eventually removed. Even Joel’s death scene was originally much more heartbreaking but Troy Baker, voice actor of Joel, made a small suggestion that made a huge difference.

The Last of Us Part 2 was arguably one of the biggest and most controversial video games in gaming history. Not everyone was a fan of the creative decisions that the developers took; there are still some things to marvel at in the narrative and others that deserve the hate.
Some fans still can’t wrap their heads around the direction that the developers took and how it made them even more uncomfortable with one particular scene. The central theme of the sequel is about violence and how it makes people lose sight of what matters most.

It was a special day for the family, as it is for every American family that watches a loved one reach such a significant milestone. Yara's loss of faith in the Seraphites is a storyline that needs to be explored more in the upcoming episodes. Lev's gender identity arc should be given more focus to continue the LGBTQ+ representation in The Last of Us season 2.
The Last of Us season 2 will be adapting The Last of Us Part II, and these 10 video game characters definitely deserve more screen time in HBO's upcoming batch of episodes. The Last of Us season 2 will undoubtedly continue the stories of many key characters from The Last of Us season 1, with the video game sequel bringing Ellie and Joel into an all-new storyline. However, The Last of Us Part II severely underutilized some of its original characters as well as some characters from the first game,...

Blasfamous by Mirka Andolfo is a colorful critique of fame and faith, showcasing a troubled immortal pop star and demonic managers. Clelia, a "queen of pop," balances public image with hidden troubles in a satirical story blending pop culture and Christian iconography. Blasfamous offers a joyride into a world of personal mess, power structures, and visually stunning art that will captivate fans of lore-rich stories.
After finding success with its initial 2023 releases, Dstlry's first new series of 2024, Blasfamous by Mirka Andolfo, is another surefire hit. With pop stars and demons galore, Blasfamous is a colorful and charming interrogation of fame, faith, and power — and, of course, those who would abuse that power.
Blasfamous #1 by Andolfo — the Italian comics creator behind the award-winning Sweet Paprika series — invites readers into a heightened world of pop stars and their demonic (literally) managers. The first issue introduces Clelia, a beloved "queen of pop" in the mold of Taylor Swift,...

Series creator Neil Druckmann confirms that an early concept for The Last of Us Part 3 is in place. A third game has long been dubious, with previous remarks from Druckmann indicating Part 3 may not happen. It is unlikely The Last of Us Part 3 has actually entered development, and Naughty Dog is currently working on a different single-player game.
Series creator Neil Druckmann has confirmed that an early narrative concept for The Last of Us Part 3 is in place. The game series has unfolded slowly, with the first coming in 2013, and a sequel in 2020. The franchise at large has had more recent activity, however – HBO adapted the first game into an award-winning series, and the sequel was recently refreshed via The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, bringing it native support on the PlayStation 5. Despite previous remarks from Druckmann that The Last of Us Part 3 might not happen, the most recent update...

A new mode added to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered called No Return puts you in a series of rogue-like survival missions, which you can tackle with characters you unlock from previous runs. These heroes all have unique abilities and weapons to take advantage of. Mixing and matching gear at the Hideout with these characters will help you make the perfect build for your next run.
Every run in Tlou 2 Remastered's No Return has permadeath, which means your character loses all their weapons, items, and upgrades accumulated from different mission scenarios. While you do get to choose the encounters you engage with, some characters might be better for specific challenge types. For example, Dina has stun bomb recipes at the start of the run and can be great in Capture or Holdout situations.
