Filmax has acquired international rights to “The Mortimers,” a new family-friendly comedy-adventure from Telecinco Cinema and Álex de la Iglesia’s Pokeepsie Films. Combining mystery, terror and dark humor, the film tells the story of five teenagers who uncover a jewel theft plot in a cemetery.
“The Mortimers,” cleverly titled ‘Los Muertimer’ in Spanish, is adapted from “Les Croques,” a best-selling French comic trilogy by illustrator Léa Mazé, who was awarded the Prize for Best Children’s Comic by France’s Association of Journalists and Critics of the Comic Book in 2018.
The plot centers on Nico, a 15-year-old loner bullied at school due to his parents’ funeral business. Through a cultural exchange program, he meets Gabi, a rebellious French girl. Their unlikely friendship leads them, and three of Nico’s tormentors, into a dark investigation after discovering a hidden corpse and stolen jewelry.

Don't you just love a good thriller? The kind that keeps you guessing, second-guessing, and maybe even gasping out loud? Harlan Coben has mastered that formula, and he has plenty of binge-worthy thrillers currently streaming on Netflix. While a few have gotten the recognition they deserve, there are some underrated gems that might’ve flown under your radar. Well, it’s time to fix that.
Below, we shared three overlooked Harlan Coben Netflix series that deliver all the suspense, mystery, and mind-blowing twists you crave and then some. Believe me. You'll thank me later once you’ve binged your way through these hidden gems and found yourself wondering how they ever slipped past your radar in the first place!

2025 has gotten off to a great start with three new Harlan Coben adaptations released on Netflix. They are Missing You, Just One Look and Caught. But while all three bring their fair share of suspense and mystery, none of them I would consider the best out of the adaptations currently streaming. Missing You could be in the running, but I'd place Fool Me Once ahead of it. In fact, not even Fool Me Once takes the crown as the best Harlan Coben Netflix show. The series that I have in mind is underrated. It's a show that deserves way more recognition than it’s gotten. It's none other than The Innocent, or El inocente in Spanish.
This mystery thriller rarely gets mentioned when people talk about the best Harlan Coben adaptations, which is a real shame because it’s truly a hidden gem. Maybe the fact that it’s in...

Harlan Coben struck a five-year deal with Netflix in 2018 to adapt some of his most famous and successful novels. The shows did very well on the platform, so they renewed the deal to continue the partnership, which now includes a Latin American adaptation.
Coben penned 35 novels that have reportedly sold 80 million copies and have been translated into 46 languages. Netflix already boasts a slate filled with limited series adaptations, most of them in English. However, 2025 brought the first Latin American adaptation of Caught, which is already a hit on the platform, per Tudum.
Caught is not the first series in Spanish, as Coben's 2005 novel The Innocent was adapted into an eight-episode limited series in 2021 starring Mario Casas, Alexandra Jiménez, Aura Garrido, José Coronado, and Martina Gusmá. However, it's the first one from Latin America.
The limited series Caught, which is based on Coben's 2010 novel of the same name, premiered on the platform on Mar.

Everyone’s tuning in to Missing You on Netflix, and with only five episodes, it’s quick to binge-watch in no time! If you found yourself hooked on this mystery thriller and are craving more of Harlan Coben’s thrilling storytelling, you're in luck.
This New York Times bestselling author has many other shows similar to Missing You streaming on Netflix. This is due to his overall deal with the streamer, which involves him adapting his books into TV shows and movies for the streaming platform. Missing You is his most recent Netflix series adaptation, but many of his other books have already been turned into shows for the streaming service.
However, that doesn't mean they're all entertaining. We would hate for you to waste your time going through the rest of Coben's collection on Netflix without knowing which ones are truly worth the binge. That's why we're about to...

Netflix launched two new film titles and shared details on several projects currently in development at a buzzy showcase this afternoon at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The streamer announced at the event that it will back two new genre projects, Cortafuego directed by David Victori (Cross The Line), and The Black Widow from filmmaker Carlos Sedes (The Summer We Lived).
The Black Widow will be produced by Ramón Campos, Bambú Producciones. The official synopsis shared by the streamer reads: August 2017. The body of a man appears in a parking lot in Valencia, stabbed seven times. Everything points to a crime of passion. The city’s Homicide Group, led by a veteran inspector, begins an investigation against the clock that soon leads them to a suspect that no one expected: Maje, the young widow, sweet and serene, who had been married to the victim for less than a year.

The NBC series "Cheers" ran for 11 seasons from 1982-1993. The show, which earned an incredible 28 Primetime Emmy Awards during its run, took place in a bar in Boston. Former baseball star Sam Malone (Ted Danson) now runs a bar and has an on-again-off-again relationship with Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), a sort of stuck-up woman who has to become a cocktail waitress to make ends meet. The bar was littered with characters like Norm (George Wendt), a barfly whose name everyone does indeed know, Cliff (John Ratzenberger), the bar know-it-all, Carla (Rhea Perlman), the acerbic waitress, Coach (Nicholas Colasanto), the doddering but loveable owner, and Woody (Woody Harrelson) as the dopey bartender. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), the prissy psychiatrist who got his own show out of it (that is currently in revival form), also appeared, as well as Rebecca (Kirstie Alley), who replaced Diane as a waitress and love interest after Long left.

Cementing its reputation as a harbinger of emerging talent, Madrid-based Latido Films has acquired the international sales rights to “Tras el Verano,” the debut film from Yolanda Centeno picked out as one of Variety’s 10 Women Directors to Watch from Spain, compiled in 2021.
Alfa Pictures is handling distribution in Spain.
Following on hits such as Colombia’s “Killing Jesus” and “Carmen & Lola” and “Lullaby” from Spain, this acquisition not only underscores Latido’s interest in nurturing and promoting fresh, innovative voices in cinema but also highlights the strength of a new generation of talent emanating from the Spanish-speaking world.
Centeno’s debut feature has attracted strong talent in the form of Goya and Gaudi winners Ruth Gabriel (“Numbered Days”) and Alexandra Jiménez (“The Distances” “100 Metres”).
Joining them is actor Juan Diego Botto whose own directorial debut “On The Fringe” reaped recognition at the Goyas, Venice and other festivals.

Oscar award-winning veteran producer Gerardo Herrero, (“The Secret In Their Eyes”) returns to the director’s chair with “Under Therapy,” his stark and unnerving big screen rendition of playwright Matías Del Federico’s theatrical production. The project bowed in competition at the Málaga Film festival earlier this week and is set for broader theatrical release in Spanish cinemas on Friday.
Latido Films handles international sales.
Enamored with the staged rendition, Herrero was inspired to add a distinctly cinematic touch to the script, honoring its darker underpinnings amidst the narratives’ anxious banter.
“The first time that I saw the production, I fell in love with the work,” Herrero told Variety. “Despite the fact that the show’s very well directed, written and performed, for me it’s much lighter than the movie. Running March 10-19, and now hosting the Spanish Screenings, the Malaga Film Festival is now firmly established as Spain’s biggest movie event in the early part of the year. Strategically positioned fairly sharp on the heels of the Berlinale, the Spanish event offers top Spanish titles at the German festival the chance to consolidate their reputations while often producing new discoveries, especially from first-time directors.
Many titles, from a Spanish film industry whose younger directors are highly social conscience and favor art-house, are issue driven.
“There’s a search for identity, whether a young trans girl’s exploration of gender identity or young leads to understand the world they live in, or the search for love and a sense pf strangeness, of being a stranger to oneself,” Juan Antonio Vigar, Málaga Film Festival director said of this year’s main Competition. Following, a brief breakdown of its titles.

In 2006, the French feature film adaptation of Harlan Coben’s “Tell No One” set a precedent that the author’s work could not only be adapted to the screen, winning a slew of awards including four Cesars, but that it could do so outside of the stories’ native U.S.
In 2018, with a host of popular series and film versions of his stories having been produced across the U.K. and Europe, Netflix’s own adaptation of “Safe” prompted the company to lock down the creator to a five-year deal in which 14 of his novels are to be developed into original Netflix series or films. The first was another U.K. adaptation, this time of his novel “The Stranger” with Poland’s “The Woods” coming shortly after. Most recently, Coben teamed with Spanish thriller maestro Oriol Paulo on “The Innocent” (“El inocente”), which will premiere globally on April 30. Up next...

At one of its increasingly regular presentations, on Thursday Netflix Spain unveiled seven new projects including “If Only,” a Spanish adaptation of the Netflix Turkish original canceled before shooting by Turkish authorities.
Where once Netflix would host its presentations early in the year and announce its ambitions for the next 12 months, the platform’s original Spanish programming pipeline has grown to an extent that Thursday’s showcase only covers the next few months and hinted at plenty more to come in late 2021.
In both level and volume of production, the day’s announcements confirm Netflix as one of if not the, foremost investors in original Spanish series and movies, at the same as its talent pool is expanding to include ever more of the principal producers in Spain. New Netflix originals are now being produced by now-regular partners Nostromo, producers of “The Minions of Midas”; “Élite” producers Zeta Studios; “Money Heist...

Madrid — The 3rd Conecta Fiction, Europe’s biggest Latin American TV co-production forum, wrapped last week in Pamplona after four days of dealing, debate and gastronomic delectation. Following 10 Takeaways from an intense and buoyant event, driven by the unfaltering growth of high-end production in Spain and most of Latin America:
1.Platform Pivot
The writing was on the wall, or more precisely the big screen of an auditorium at Pamplona’s luxurious Baluarte congress center, from the get-go of Conecta Fiction. Drama and mini-series production near tripled in Germany over 2014-18, according to Spain’s Gabinete de Estudios de la Comunicación Audiovisual (Geca). It near doubled in France last year, up to 27 titles, from 13 in 2017. Yet traditional TV viewing is still falling among young audiences, down 28.4% and 20.1% among 14-12s and 13-24s in Spain, for example, said Geca’s Luis de Zubiaurre Wagner, citing Kantor Media. The real money shot...

A brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal…sound familiar? Unlike its central band of spectres, the influences on this supernatural Spanish comedy are plain to see. Opening and closing with a prom scene, Ghost Graduation (‘Promoción fantasma’) revisits the American high-school movies of the Eighties, emerging like a cross between Ghostbusters and The Breakfast Club- with more than just a dance montage as a nod to the latter.
Our humble, hangdog hero is Modesto (Raúl Arévalo), a high school teacher plagued with the ability to see the dead. Rather than realise his gift, he instead begins to worry that he’s losing his mind. Regular visits to a psychiatrist only seem to make matters worse- not least because Modesto is distracted by his...

Javier Ruiz Caldera's Ghost Graduation mashes-up The Sixth Sense, Heart and Souls, and The Breakfast Club, and does so with a big smile on its face. Happily aware of the clichés of ghost films, Ghost Graduation has plenty of fun embracing the major rules of the genre (body possession, walking through walls, etc.) while still poking fun at the little quirks. Caldera and his charming cast have created a sweet film that never gets too saccharine, and a nice parody that never becomes too self-aware. Modesto (Raúl Arévalo) has seen dead people since he was in high school. As an adult, he has become a frequently-fired teacher as he continues to see ghosts despite medication and therapy. When a high school begins experiencing an irritating amount of supernatural activity, the open-minded principal, Tina (Alexandra Jiménez), hires Modesto, and they realize that he's not crazy because the school is haunted...

A new one-sheet and trailer have arrived for Javier Ruiz Caldera's new Spanish horror comedy 'Promocion fantasma' (Aka 'Ghost Graduation'). The new one-sheet for the movie makes it look more like an 'American Pie' sequel (or 'Spanish Pie' I guess), but at least the trailer moulds it more into supernatural territory. I'm certain that if any of us here at the Horror Asylum spoke Spanish we'd probably think everything being said in the new trailer would be hilarious! Perhaps one of our Spanish readers could give us a heads up on this. Either way the trailer features hot Spanish schoolgirls, possession and a Ouiji board so do we really care at this stage? Raul Arevalo, Andrea Duro (below), Javier Bodalo, Alexandra Jimenez, Jaime Olias, Alex Maruny, Anna Castillo and Aura Garrido. Check out the plot info, new one-sheet and the trailer below!...

In a perfect world if there were such a thing as a ghost school, then Beetlejuice would be a teacher of Yoda-like proportions. Sadly, this world sucks and the ghost with the most has been missing since his initial outing. Good thing we have a new horror comedy on the way to cheer us up.

We get a lot of opportunities to bring you guys advanced promotional screenings for soon-to-be-released films. These opportunities usually come in the form of a studio request and are usually promoted via Facebook. Facebook isn’t necessarily the strongest system for managing the sheer volume of excited people RSVPing to these events, however, and this became very clear today. We are already moving forward on a new system that will allow us to announce RSVPs to our loyal Facebook followers but use...
