Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana’s long-rumoured vampire comedy “Thama” will hit Indian cinemas during the lucrative Diwali frame next year, producers Maddock Films confirmed as the picture entered its last fortnight of filming in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar, working from a script by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Fulara, is shooting climactic sequences and a key flash-back that explains antagonist Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s undead origins, after which only two musical numbers remain before wrap.

Khurrana plays Arjun Thama, a present-day historian who uncovers vampire folklore stretching to the 15th-century Vijayanagar empire, a dual-timeline device the actor calls “supremely unique” and a “project of a lifetime”.

The title is a contraction of Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior of the Mahabharata, and signals Maddock’s plan to fuse mythology with the studio’s profitable horror-comedy universe that began with Stree and continued through Bhediya and the forthcoming Munjya.

Traveling Picture Show Company (Tpsc) and Rising Tides have joined forces with Pakistan’s Hum Network for the screen adaptation of Soniah Kamal’s bestselling novel “Unmarriageable.”

“Unmarriageable,” a literary adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice,” transplants Jane Austen’s themes to contemporary Pakistan. The story follows the Binat family’s five daughters as they navigate modern life and South Asian courtship.

The project will be one of the few Western productions to be shot entirely in Pakistan. Sadia Ashraf, who penned the script, will co-direct alongside James McMillan. Principal photography is slated to commence in early 2025 in Pakistan.

Lucknow, Feb 7 (Ians) In a shocking incident, well known Pakhawaj player and Up Sangeet Natak Akademi (Upsna) awardee Dinesh Prasad, 67, collapsed on stage during his performance at the Sanatkada Festival in Lucknow on Monday evening.

He was rushed to the Lari Cardiology Centre and was later declared brought dead by the doctors.

Prasad was performing along with other musicians like, Iliyas Husain Khan, Ilyas Khan, Shrikant Shukla, Zeeshan and Siddiqui.

Organiser of the festival, Madhavi Kuckreja, who was an eyewitness to the incident, said that Prasad, while into his performance, stopped playing pakhawaj for a few minutes, but resumed later. He felt some uneasiness and asked for a glass of water. But he collapsed within moments on the stage.

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Monday. Home Ministry officials described the meeting as a courtesy call.

In “Saat Hindustani” released in 1969, by journalist, scriptwriter, and filmmaker Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, the actor played the role of a poet who resided in Hindpiri, Ranchi. However, the character is entirely fictional i.e. no poet of this name ever lived in Ranchi.

The story of the film revolves around the fight to liberate Goa from Portuguese occupation. Seven people from different states of the country leave for Goa on this mission, one of them being Anwar Ali.
