The Chelsea Detective Season 2 Recap & Ending Explained
Image
The Chelsea Detective season 2 brings more of the procedural crime-solving and unexpected murder cases that fans have come to expect from the British crime drama. There is no shortage of British cop shows on television and when The Chelsea Detective premiered in February 2023, it came into a fairly saturated market for similar shows. The Chelsea Detective managed to stand out among these series thanks to the starring performance of Adrian Scarborough as Di Max Arnold, the coffee-drinking, bicycle-riding detective who solves crimes in the upscale Chelsea borough of London.

The recent British crime drama may not be the most recognizable title, but it's worth the watch. With two seasons of four episodes each, it's an easy series to binge. Furthermore, there is no real overarching story. Of course, Max's impending divorce from his wife Astrid (Annamaria Marinca) is a throughline, but there's no big bad or villainous cabal. The Chelsea...

‘Black Cake’ Review: Hulu’s Epic Tale of Family Secrets Centers the Caribbean Diaspora
Image
Since the pandemic, Black female-driven content with universal appeal has found a home on Hulu. Stepping away from the cliched stories that have too often defined others’ efforts, each new project from the streamer, be it “The 1619 Project” or the recent “The Other Black Girl,” grows increasingly more ambitious. “Black Cake,” produced by Oprah Winfrey, pushes the boundaries even further by centering on a biracial, immigrant woman’s experience.

Adapted from Charmaine Wilkerson’s New York Times-bestselling novel of the same name, the sweeping eight-episode family drama from showrunner Marissa Jo Cerar revolves around a Jamaican Chinese woman who has lived an epic life spanning various parts of the globe. The problem is: Her past has been kept hidden from her children. Only through a flash drive of audio recordings played after her death do they learn that they know very little of her story. As their mother unravels her life from the grave,...

Sonita Henry and Adrian Scarborough in The Chelsea Detective (2022)
The Chelsea Detective Review: By the Numbers Murder Mystery Buoyed by Stellar Leads
Sonita Henry and Adrian Scarborough in The Chelsea Detective (2022)
Acorn TV is home to some of the most addictive mystery series around, and its latest offering, The Chelsea Detective, is a lot of fun if you're looking for cases with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

The Adrian Scarborough and Sonita Henry-fronted series spans four episodes that clock in at around 90 minutes each.

In essence, it feels like four distinctly different movies, and it's all thanks to the variety of the cases.

There's something for everyone sprinkled in.

The series follows the conventions of your typical murder mystery, but that's not a bad thing.

Sometimes, it's good to be familiar with the format, and part of the fun here is in constructing a list of suspects and motives to see if you're right or wrong.

Who doesn't love being an armchair detective?

On the surface, Scarborough's Max and Henry's Priya could not be more different, but it becomes...

It stars Adrian Scarborough and Sonita Henry as detectives investigating crimes in London.

What attracted you both to The Chelsea Detective?

Adrian: The checklist was pretty comprehensive. He rides a bicycle, which I ride, I love riding bikes, and I ride mine all over London, so that was quite useful. I thought it's been quite a long time since you saw a bobby on a bicycle in a British television series.

That's not happened for a while. I love the idea of him sort of being on this little island of a houseboat, and I liked the fact that he's melancholic, that he plays the piano, that he's sort of a bit...
