California Governor Gavin Newsom is suing the parent company of the Fox News Channel over a statement made on one of its prime-time commentary programs that related to recent civil unrest in Los Angeles.
The lawsuit, filed in Delaware, where Fox is incorporated, is seeking at least $787 million in damages — an amount nearly identical to how much Fox paid to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by a voting machine manufacturer two years ago.
In a complaint, Newsom contends that Fox misrepresented a statement he wrote on social media in response to one made by President Donald Trump earlier this month. The statement concerned phone calls and coordination around deployment of U.S. Marines to Los Angeles during unrest over immigration raids...

For channels like Fox News and MSNBC, the battle for news-hungry viewers has moved beyond the TV screen. The top cable and network news outlets are increasingly fighting for viewers on YouTube, which has established itself as the go-to hub for all-things television in 2025.
Fox News, just as it does versus traditional linear broadcasters, leads the way when it comes to YouTube. As the midway point of 2025 approaches, the network’s YouTube channel so far this year has racked up 2.3 billion views on the Google-owned platform, more than doubling the number of views it had at the same time last year, according to data from Emplifi, a company that tracks social media metrics.
Its 109% jump in YouTube views year-over-year helped Fox News leapfrog over MSNBC — which had led all news channels on YouTube in 2024 — as the top mainstream outlet on the platform so far this year.

Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. Now Is The Time For Peace! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

As President Donald Trump weighs sending U.S. forces to help Israel bomb Iran — and potentially plunge the nation into a new war — his decision is being influenced by bellicose on-air content at Fox News. The favored network of the president has put forth a parade of hosts, guests, and professional commentators with an effusively pro-war and pro-regime change message.
According to an administration official and another close associate of the commander-in-chief, Trump’s heavy consumption of Fox News content is increasing his appetite for direct military confrontation with Iran.

It’s a hot-as-fuck Los Angeles morning. Near 80 degrees at 8 a.m., and Stephen A. Smith is having half of a lightly jellied bagel. We’re near a big-ass private park that abuts a 40-story black glass building rumored to house or have housed NBA super-agents, pop stars, white-hot young creators, and various and sundry Middle Eastern royalty. The structure feels too tall for the quaky City of Angels, and one can only hope it stays as unshakable as its most garrulous current resident, Stephen A. Smith.

Donald Trump responded to Tucker Carlson’s criticism of the administration’s support of Israeli strikes on Iran, with the president getting in a dig at the media personality’s post-Fox News career.
“I don’t know what Tucker Carlson is saying,” Trump said, as he attended the G7 summit in Canada on Monday. “Let him go get a television network and say it so that people listen.”
Later, Trump posted on Truth Social, “Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, ‘Iran Can Not Have A Nuclear Weapon!'”
Since Israel launched its attacks on Iran, Carlson, a Trump supporter, has warned of U.S. involvement, underscoring a split in the Maga movement.

Fox has long been known for established content franchises that range from Gordon Ramsay to Sean Hannity. Now the company is casting about in a very different sort of pool.
Fox Advertising has made what it calls a strategic investment in The Lighthouse, a studio and campus designed specifically for creators that is part of the portfolio of Whalar Group, an independent company that develops influencers and other content personalities. Fox’s investment will also support the launch of an initiative aimed at developing franchise tied to creators across Fox’ content offerings.
Fox did not reveal the financial terms of the deal. Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s bromance appears to be over after the president and the world’s richest man went after each other with a vengeance on Thursday. Trump implied Musk’s opposition to his legislative agenda is the result of Trump Derangement Syndrome, called the Tesla billionaire “Crazy,” and threatened to cancel Musk’s federal contracts. Musk called Trump “sad,” alleged the president is on the Epstein list, and even suggested he should be impeached.

The Trump Administration has formally accepted a $400 million jet gifted by Qatar after President Donald Trump declared that he was “embarrassed” by the current Air Force One.
Last week, Trump announced that he wanted to accept the $400 million “flying palace” Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s royal family, which the president will use as Air Force One.
Trump will use the aircraft, which is said to be the most luxurious private jet in the world, as a temporary presidential jet while Boeing finishes the next-generation Air Force One fleet after years of delays and cost overruns. The jet will then be transferred to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation when Trump leaves office.
“The plane that you are on right now is almost 40 years old,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity during an interview while the president traveled to Saudi Arabia on Air Force One.

On Wednesday’s (May 14) edition of The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, the MSNBC host slammed President Donald Trump over his latest argument for accepting a $400 million jet from Qatar. “Donald Trump just offered a new defense tonight on social media for his desire to accept the biggest payoff in the history of the American presidency and possibly the literally biggest payoff in world history,” O’Donnell said, referring to the Boeing 747 being offered to Trump by Qatar’s royal family. “The first line of Donald Trump’s exclamation-point defense of accepting that plane tonight is: ‘The Boeing 747 is being given to the United States Air Force, Department of Defense, Not To Me!,'” O’Donnell continued, quoting Trump’s Truth Social post. The host added, “Of course, no one contradicts Donald Trump better than Donald Trump,” before airing a clip of the president on Air Force One talking to Fox News host Sean Hannity.

For Fox News, President Trump’s first 100 days back in the White House were a big success — even when compared to his first term.
The ratings make that clear, with Fox News averaging more viewers — both in primetime and over the course of the entire day — during the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term than during the first 100 days following his 2017 inauguration.
In fact, Fox News just enjoyed the highest-rated first 100 days of any presidency in cable news history, surpassing the record it set in ’17.
Here are the key figures: Fox News has averaged 1.90 million viewers Mon-Sun since the president re-entered the White House on Jan. 20, which is up 13% compared to the 1.68 million the channel averaged during his first 100 days in office in ’17.
The channel’s primetime viewership has also increased 9% compared to 2017, going from an average of 2.81 million viewers each night to 3.06 million this year, according to Nielsen audience data.

A federal judge in Maryland has ordered the Trump administration to return a second migrant who was deported to El Salvador’s notorious prison system despite a previous court settlement barring their removal.
It might be hard for the president and his officials to argue the ruling is the work of a radical left, activist judge, as Trump appointed her.
According to ABC News, Maryland District Judge Stephanie Gallagher ruled on Wednesday that the Trump administration must facilitate the return of a man referred to as “Christian” in court records.

The stock market continues to fluctuate wildly amid Donald Trump’s tariffs, and while most people — including multiple Trump donors — have lost a lot of money because of it, some of the president’s loyalists are still defending the move. That made Seth Meyers roll his eyes pretty hard on Monday night.
During his “A Closer Look” segment, the NBC host noted that many “Wall Street realists” are suggesting a stoppage of the tariffs after the massive money loss, and projected future damage to the economy, including huge price hikes on just about everything.

Apparently dismantling the federal government is a lot easier than having a brief chat with the fifth-billed star of Death to Smoochy.
It’s been three weeks since Elon Musk publicly offered to guest on The Daily Show, after Jon Stewart’s lengthy takedown of the Trump administration’s Doge cuts. But Musk only agreed to appear on the Comedy Central show if the interview “airs unedited,” which wasn’t a problem since, as Stewart pointed out, “that’s actually how the in-studio interviews normally air.”
The Daily Show staff immediately took him up on said offer via a post on social media, and Stewart later reiterated that invitation on the air, claiming that he’d be “delighted” to have the chainsaw-wielding billionaire on the show. In retrospect, that may have been the best acting that Stewart has done since 1998’s The Faculty.

The back-and-forth between Jimmy Kimmel and the Trump administration continued on Thursday night as the late night host took aim at Vice President Jd Vance for slamming Kimmel’s audience.
The war of words began earlier this week when Kimmel joked about Elon Musk’s plummeting Tesla stock in the wake of his Doge cuts on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Sean Hannity and the Right came out hard against the late night host, and Kimmel doubled down on Thursday night as he played clips of Fox News hosts and guests threatening anyone who vandalizes a Tesla with violence in return.
“But if you try to taser a cop on the steps of the capital, we’ve got your back,” Kimmel quipped before he made a nod to Maga’s similar Bud Light boycott (and the hypocrisy therein) and then segued into a segment about Vance.
“Everyone needs to crack open a Bud Light and relax already.

Jimmy Kimmel isn’t letting Elon Musk off the hook. The same goes for the conservatives who are apparently outraged at Kimmel for continuing to joke about Tesla owners destroying their cars in protest of Musk.
The Tesla owner tried to blame the vandalism on “some kind of mental illness,” but Kimmel noted that people are just mad at Musk for seemingly giving the Nazi salute twice at an inauguration event for Donald Trump. The late-night host also reminded Musk that he waved around a chainsaw earlier this year to celebrate the Department of Government Efficiency cutting government spending, which has resulted in thousands of job cuts from the federal workforce. So yeah, people just don’t like Musk and are taking it out on their Teslas in protest.
“Tesla is not having a good week,” Kimmel said in his latest monologue on March 20. “Today they issued a recall of nearly all 46,000 of their Cybertrucks.

Jimmy Kimmel trolled Elon Musk during his March 19 monologue for trying to “drum up sympathy” amid a wave of Tesla owners burning and vandalizing their cars in protest of Musk. The Tesla founder appeared in an interview with Sean Hannity and blamed the Tesla protests on owners with “some kind of mental illness.”
“Tesla is a peaceful company,” Musk said. “I’ve never done anything awful. I think we just have a deranged… there is some kind of mental illness thing going on here. It doesn’t make any sense.”
“Well, let me see if I can explain it for you,” Kimmel fired back at Musk. “When you pull out a chainsaw to celebrate firing thousands of people, they get mad. My god. I mean, this poor guy. You do one, maybe two Nazi salutes, everybody gets all bent out of shape!”

No matter how offensive he’s being, there’s just something about Triumph the Insult Comic Dog that people find charming. Ever since he first appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in in 1997, he’s gotten away with humiliating Star Wars nerds and crashing political conventions mostly without consequence. He’s even managed to endear himself to everyone from Stephen Colbert to Mike Huckabee.
On occasion, however, Triumph — and, by extension, his performer Robert Smigel — have managed to antagonize the wrong person. And, instead of laughing things off, Triumph’s target has responded with genuine fury. Here are five such times when Triumph has truly pissed someone off, very much finding himself in the doghouse.

When Triumph attended the Westminster Dog Show in 1999, the Montenegrin Mountain Hound wasn’t yet the canine insult institution he is today, so not everyone was entertained by his antics.

“Many of us sacrificed our careers trying to take these people on and Newsom’s trying to make a career with them.”
That was former Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger reacting to California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom having the Trump White House’s onetime chief strategist Steve Bannon on his podcast today. Though a Republican, Kinzinger served on the the House Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack and has been vocal in his opposition to Trump’s claims of voter fraud and attempts to overturn the results.
Newsom has used his new podcast to engage with far Right figures, having unusually friendly conversations with his first two guests, Michael Savage and Charlie Kirk, as well as with Bannon this week. In a world that could use more bipartisanship, that kind of amity is arguably a good thing. But many, like Kinzinger, saw the Bannon interview as a betrayal.

Stephen A. Smith is not too humble to be candid about how his career began: As a beat reporter for several newspapers, covering high school and college sports, while living off canned tuna and Kool-Aid.
His aspirations were to eventually become a newspaper columnist, which would give him considerable leeway to express his opinion in a fashion that wasn’t acceptable as a hard-news sports journalist.
“When I became a columnist in 2003, I was the 21st African-American, 21st Black man, in this nation’s history, to become a general sports columnist,” Smith said during an interview with Howard Stern in 2019. “It was an incredible accomplishment — which is why, when you’ve got these bloggers out there, talking this sh-t sometimes, I remind folks, excuse me, I’m no blogger. I worked my way up to this point.”
His opinions did not go unnoticed.

Vice President Jd Vance has received criticism on social media after saying that the United Kingdom was a “random country” that had not fought a war in three or four decades. The UK and France are both drawing up a plan with Ukraine to present to the US, which would include a peacekeeping force made up of a currently unspecified “coalition of the willing.”
During a London summit of European leaders on March 2, the country’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a key player in pushing the plan, and French President Emmanuel Macron asserted that “a number of countries have indicated [on Sunday] that they want to be part of the plan that [they] are developing.”

The Trump administration has now apparently paused all military aid until the Ukrainian government is “committed” to the goal of peace.

iHeartMedia, the Am and FM giant powered by 870 radio stations and growing digital ambitions, saw its podcast revenue rise to $139.6 million in the fourth quarter, up about 6 percent year-over-year. The company cited increased demand from advertisers, even as it saw rising operating expenses due to content costs and podcast profit sharing costs.
The company reported total revenue of $1.118 billion, up 4.8 percent from the same frame last year. And CFO Rich Bressler said that iHeart had about $4.52 billion of net debt outstanding, which he described as “the lowest net debt position in the history of our company.”
On the company’s earnings call, video podcasts — a format that Spotify is pivoting toward and that YouTube claims 1 billion users watch on its platform — became a talking point. iHeart CEO Bob Pittman was asked by Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich about growth in that segment as some consumers shift attention.

It’s been four years since Michael Wolff wrote a book about President Donald Trump. His last was 2021’s Landslide, which he wrote right after 2019’s Siege: Trump Under Fire, which, of course, came out just a year after the publication of his blockbuster page-turner Fire and Fury in 2018.
Today, we’re getting the not-so-long-awaited All or Nothing, which details the backroom shenanigans behind how 45 managed against all odds to get elected 47. Trump may not be one of Wolff’s biggest fans — “a total Loser,” the president raged on Truth Social last weekend — but The Hollywood Reporter has seen some early pages detailing Trump’s on-again-off-again relationship with News Corp mogul Rupert Murdoch, and Wolff does, as always, spill the tea.
You’ll probably recall how Murdoch turned on Trump after Jan. 6, only to have second thoughts after it became clear that Trump could actually get back into the White House.

As Donald Trump attempts to consolidate power within the executive branch, his declarations of despotism are becoming increasingly explicit.
On Wednesday afternoon — after ordering his administration to intervene in New York City’s recently implemented congestion pricing model — Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Congestion Pricing Is Dead. Manhattan, and all of New York, is Saved. Long Live The King!”
Shortly after, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich posted a screenshot of Trump’s post on X, alongside an AI-generated image of the president in a crown and cape.

Ever since the start of Donald Trump‘s second administration, The View hosts have continued to react to his various executive actions. But the one name that keeps making it to the top of the “Hot Topics” list in this term is Elon Musk, and that continued to be the case on Wednesday’s (February 19) episode. This time, the cohosts — Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin (since Whoopi Goldberg was out) — reacted to footage of Trump and Musk’s joint interview with Sean Hannity at Fox News. The segment started by reviewing a clip in which Musk said of his relationship with Trump, “I love the president. I think President Trump is a good man,” and Trump responded with, “Elon called me. President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk put on a united front when they sat down for a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity on Tuesday (February 18). Trump and Musk shot down claims of tension between the pair as some circles have referred to the Tesla CEO as President Musk. Instead, they heaped praise on one another, with Hannity telling the duo, “I feel like I’m interviewing two brothers here.” “Elon called me. He said, ‘You know, they are trying to drive us apart. I said, ‘Absolutely,'” Trump said at one point in the interview. However, Hannity did bring up how Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) recently reached a $10 million lawsuit settlement with Trump. “So he’s working for free with Doge. He’s kind of put a lot of his life on hold. And you sued Twitter a number of years ago. You just made him pay $10 million?...

Perhaps the most unexpected thing about Sean Hannity’s hourlong sit-down Tuesday with Donald Trump and Elon Musk — a first — was the initial question that the Fox News host posed to the duo.
“So he’s working for free with Doge. He’s kind of put a lot of his life on hold. And you sued Twitter a number of years ago. You just made him pay $10 million?” Hannity asked.
Unperturbed, Musk said he had just let the lawyers figure out the dicey legal matter, while Trump claimed that his No. 1 adviser got a “big discount.”
“It’s very low. I was looking to get much more money than that,” Trump said.
Hannity was referring to the latest settlement of a Trump lawsuit, this time from Musk’s X, which earlier this month agreed to pay the sum to the president even if the litigation had long been dormant.

Donald Trump will sit down with Fox News’ Bret Baier for a Super Bowl pregame interview Sunday.
It has become a tradition for presidents to do an interview with the NFL championship game’s host network, although Joe Biden skipped last year’s sit-down when CBS had the rights. Biden also declined an interview in 2023, when Fox News had rights.
When he was president in his first term, Trump declined to do an interview with NBC News in 2018. Trump was interviewed by then-Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in 2017, CBS News’ Margaret Brennan in 2019 and Fox News’ Sean Hannity in 2020.
This year’s pre-taped interview will take place at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fl, with portions airing on Special Report with Bret Baier on February 10 and the interview publishing online on FoxNews.com.
Baier hosted Trump for a town hall during the 2024 election and interviewed Kamala Harris. He also interviewed Trump...
