Seth Meyers Deflates Donald Trump’s “Tough On Crime” Balloon
Seth Meyers popped President Donald Trump’s tough-on-crime balloon in Wednesday’s Late Night Closer Look. The president is now all in on backing an accused sexual predator running for the senate in Alabama, and offers sympathy for Michael Flynn, a former top aide who lied to the FBI, “making clear what Trump means when he says he’s tough on crime,” Meyers observed. During his campaign, Trump liked to use Richard Nixon’s “law and order" gag. And he routinely lied about…...

The Year in TV: How Late-Night Hosts Became the Resistance
Jimmy Kimmel
In the world of late-night television, 2017's biggest media story was the fact that, after initial stumbles – and even rumors that he might get replaced – Stephen Colbert's much-hyped Late Show overtook Jimmy Fallon's seemingly invincible Tonight Show in the ratings. (NBC's boyish, game-loving host still has the advantage in the much-coveted 18-to-49 demo, but that lead keeps shrinking.) There were many reasons to cheer this news. From his time on The Daily Show to hosting The Colbert Report, Colbert has proved to be one of the best, most...

Stephen Colbert Celebrates ‘Holiday Collusion Season’ with ‘Robert Mueller’s 12 Days of Christmas’
Michael Flynn
Here’s a spoof song that likely won’t make it onto President Trump’s holiday playlist.

The gifts mentioned in the classic 1909 holiday tune “The Twelve Days of Christmas” are a little dated (10 lords a-leaping? That is so last century) so Stephen Colbert took the liberty of sprucing up the song to make it more relevant to 2017.

In the Late Show‘s reimagining, the 12-day celebration focuses on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Kicking off the song — and replacing the famous “partridge in a pear tree” — is “a Michael Flynn guilty plea,...

Molly Shannon Returns to Will & Grace as Val Bassett — 2018 First Look
Molly Shannon
Now we know for sure which way madness lies: Molly Shannon is set to bring the cray-cray back to Will & Grace as wackadoodle Val Bassett, and TVLine has an exclusive first look at Jack’s onetime stalker in (fatal attr)action.

As you can see from the image — a throwback, perhaps, to the character’s introduction to Will during a Season 1 elevator ride — Grace’s rival has not gone sane, so to speak, since her last appearance in Season 7. Or at least Karen and Jack don’t seem to think that she has, given the distance they’re keeping from her. The hitcom’s co-creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, say that “2018 promises to be a year marked by unmoored insanity, and it’s in that spirit we’ve asked the divine Molly Shannon to be part of the second half of our first season back.”...

Watch Jimmy Fallon as Bruce Springsteen: 'Robert Mueller's Comin' to Town'
Michael Flynn
Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert found the holiday spirit in the latest results of Robert Mueller's investigation into collusion between Russia and President Trump's administration. On Friday, former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador and agreed to cooperate with Mueller's inquiry.

On The Tonight Show, Fallon resurrected his spot-on Bruce Springsteen impression – donning Aviator sunglasses, a red bandana, sleeveless denim and one earring – and adapted the words of Springsteen's rendition of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town.

President Trump Says He Feels ‘Very Badly’ For Michael Flynn and His ‘Ruined Life’
Michael Flynn
Donald Trump says it’s a “shame” that his former national security advisor Michael Flynn‘s life is ruined after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

“I feel badly for Gen. Flynn. I feel very badly,” the president told reporters outside the White House on Monday morning. “He’s led a very strong life, and I feel very badly. I will say this, Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI and nothing happened to her. Flynn lied, and they destroyed his life. I think it’s a shame.”

Trump continued: “Flynn lied, and it’s like — it ruined his life.

Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump Gets Visited by Billy Bush & Hillary Clinton in 'SNL' Take on 'A Christmas Carol'
Saturday Night Live (1975)
Saturday Night Live celebrated the holiday season with a politically charged cold open this weekend based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

After sitting the last few episodes out, Alec Baldwin returned to reprise his acclaimed impression of President Donald Trump.

In the sketch, Baldwin's Trump says he's in "pouty baby mode" over the ongoing investigations by Robert Mueller and fired National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's decision to plead guilty to lying to the FBI as part of a rumored deal to reveal information regarding Mueller's probe into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election.

As Trump ruminates alone in the oval office, he's soon visited by Flynn wearing heavy chains and shackles (a la Jacob Marley) who calls himself "the ghost of witness flipped." Flynn warns Trump that he's going to be visited by three other ghosts as well, starting with Billy Bush (in the role of the Ghost of Christmas Past).

“Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House Communications Director. Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best,” the White House press secretary said in a statement.

Multiple sources told the New York Times that President Donald Trump chose to remove Scaramucci at the request of the...

Watch John Oliver Warn of Conservative Takeover of Unbiased Local News
John Oliver looked at the troubling conservative takeover of unbiased local news broadcasts on Last Week Tonight.

"Our main story tonight concerns the potential problems in corporate consolidation of local news, don't you dare change the channel," Oliver warned.

"Sinclair [Broadcast Group] may be the most influential media company that you've never heard of: Not only are they the largest owner of local TV stations in the country, they could soon get ever bigger," Oliver said, referring to Sinclair's $4 billion acquisition of Tribune Media's 42 local stations.

Last Week Tonight discovered that when...

Michael Flynn Linked to Russian Hackers, Wall Street Journal Reports
Donald Trump
A Wall Street Journal report indicates that fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn may have been involved in collusion between supporters of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russian hackers. The Journal reported that Flynn, who was senior adviser to then-candidate Donald Trump at the time, was in contact with a Gop operative about obtaining emails he believed were stolen from Hillary Clinton’s private server. The Gop operative, Peter W. Smith, considered Flynn and his consulting company, Flynn Intel Group, to be “allies in their quest” to obtain the damaging emails, according to the WSJ. The report says that Smith “assembled a.

Was it the jock? Was it the nerd? The answer to which member of the legendary ’80s movie-star posse, The Brat Pack, got “laid” the most might not surprise you: the bad boy.

When Andy Cohen asked Anthony Michael Hall on Watch What Happens Live this week which Brat Pack member was making the most of their fame “back in the day,” Hall didn’t hesitate for long.

“I’ll go with Judd Nelson,” he said.

That wasn’t all Hall had to say about his former castmates during Cohen’s “Plead the Fifth” segment, in which stars can choose...

James Comey Testimony: The 6 Images That Made It the Best TV Movie of the Summer
Donald Trump
James Comey’s testimony before Congress may reflect a dark chapter in American politics, but it also created some of the most riveting live television in history — and, at just under three hours, a gripping feature-length window into the anxieties of our troubled times. While the biggest questions remain unresolved — has President Trump colluded with Russians? obstructed justice? — it created a fascinating spectacle of the highest order.

Moments before testimony began, pundits already discussed the broadcast in movie terms. More than one journalist compared Comey’s appearance to “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” — a private citizen standing before the government, ostensibly taking the moral high ground. However, that comparison failed to convey Comey’s paradoxical nature. Last fall, he emerged from the 2016 presidential election reviled on both sides of the aisle, with his role in the Hillary Clinton email scandal leaving Democrats reeling. However, by the time he was unceremoniously dismissed last month,...

Donald Trump
Donald Trump has finally weighed in on the headline-making testimony of James Comey, less than a day after the ousted FBI director addressed the Senate Intelligence Committee in the biggest political drama in decades.

Trump, 70, took to Twitter on Friday morning to give his thoughts on Comey’s testimony regarding potential collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

“Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication … and Wow, Comey is a leaker!” Trump tweeted.

The nation waited with bated breath for Trump to live-tweet during Comey’s testimony on Thursday, adding even more potential drama to Comey...

Senate Goes Medieval: James Comey And The ‘Meddlesome Priest’
Among the bombshells dropping at Thursday’s U.S. Senate intelligence committee’s hearing with former FBI director James Comey was a moment of historical camaraderie. Donald Trump’s Lawyer: James Comey A Leaking Liar
This morning at the Senate Intel Committee, former FBI Director James Comey said President Donald Trump was a liar. Trump’s attorney returned the favor this afternoon. Trump never told Mr. Comey to “let go” the FBI’s investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, nor did Trump tell Comey he expected Comey to pledge his “loyalty” to Trump. Potus’s outside counsel Marc Kasowitz said at a news conference at which he declined to take questions. The attorney…...
