Don’t Miss This Mindmelting Michael Douglas Thriller on Prime Video: “An absolute masterpiece”
Image
Do you need more Michael Douglas in your life? I’m sure you do. His films are endlessly watchable and he’s got a perpetual charm that transcends time and space. Douglas has played more iconic characters than I have time or space (see what I did?) to list here. Gordon Gekko from Wall Street, Hank Pym from the MCU, Dan Gallagher from Fatal Attraction, and many, many more. One of my favorite pictures from Douglas’ storied filmography is currently streaming on Prime Video. And that’s all the more encouragement I need to gush about my undying appreciation for the title in question. What is the title in question? Well, I’m glad you asked, dear reader. I’m talking about David Fincher’s The Game.

Few films have blown my mind like The Game. The winding narrative, the show-stopping performances from a gifted cast, and the insane twist...

10 Underrated Sequels From Famous Franchises
Image
Since the earliest days of Hollywood, audiences have signaled a desire for some of their favorite stories to continue in the form of sequels, with franchises like Star Wars and Halloween being kept alive for decades. The idea of the sequel has always been hit or miss, with some filmmakers wanting their best stories to be left at one, while studios insist on keeping their ideas alive. Naturally, this has been reflected in the quality of some movies, which can either delight or divide audiences.

While some sequels rank among the greatest and most successful films ever made, others are among the worst. In the middle, however, audiences have a long list of underrated continuations, some of which failed to live up to a predecessor while others were quickly overshadowed by the next entry. Some of these movies simply flew under the radar or weren't appreciated for their time, but have aged incredibly well.

Terminator Salvation (2009) – What Happened to This Movie?
Image
After the still entertaining but undeniably sillier Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the Terminator franchise was ready for salvation. But what would be the next step? Arnold was fully engulfed in his political career; James Cameron would rather remake Piranha 2 than return; and per the usual for this franchise….no one even knows who owns the rights! This is What the F*ck Happened to Terminator Salvation.

A bit after Terminator 3’s release, both Nick Stahl and Claire Danes were recast to return as John Connor and Kate Brewster in the next installment of the franchise. Jonathan Mostow (director of Terminator 3) was also involved and helping with the script but a retread of Terminator 3 sounded dreadful. On top of that, the rights situation was once again a mess…. After months of fighting, lawsuits, and distribution hassles…. the rights to the franchise were again sold. This time,...

Halle Berry open to Catwoman sequel — but only if she’s directing!
Image
Halle Berry made a recent appearance for an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss her new movie Never Let Go. During the interview, host Jimmy Fallon pointed out that this year, 2024, marks the 20th anniversary of Catwoman - something that Berry herself celebrated with a recent post on social media in which she posed with a few rescue kittens.

When asked by Jimmy Fallon about what she remembered about making the film, Berry stated she “loved it” despite it being “panned” by critics. Once asked if she would don the cat suit again, Berry told Fallon “Maybe, if I could direct it.”

Could this be the star's way of leaving the door open for yet another appearance as the Pitof version of the character? The legendary actress is at a stage in her career where she can do whatever she wants, but even if she were to direct another Catwoman project,...

Terminator Zero Revives an Epic Plot Twist That Terminator Salvation Cut
Image
The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of Terminator Zero, now streaming on Netflix.

Over the years, the popular Terminator Universe has been very divisive. The first two Terminator movies by James Cameron are universally beloved. The ones after, not as much. There was too much tampering with the timeline, paradoxes and reboots in the story that saw humanity needing to stop Skynet and the nukes that would bomb many nations in Judgment Day.

Well, the Terminator Zero anime attempts to streamline things by focusing on Cameron's movies. However, there are key elements that are taken from the films which 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate made non-canon. One of these threads is picked up and remixed from the cutting room floor of Terminator Salvation. And make no mistake, it does add tremendous nuance and unpredictability to the entire series.

Terminator Zero's Kokoro, Explained
Image
The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of Terminator Zero, now streaming on Netflix.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Terminator Zero is the fact that Skynet isn't the only artificial intelligence in this narrative. This second AI is the entity known as Kokoro. It gives the franchise a fresh feel. 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate moved away from Skynet, admittedly, when it introduced Legion in a rebooted timeline.

But the existence of a second AI in this particular timeline is noteworthy because Skynet still exists. It's not defunct or replaced by Legion. With that in mind, here is a comprehensive analysis of Kokoro. And how she is being set up to change the property in a massive way.

What is The Purpose of Terminator Zero's Kokoro? Kokoro Was Meant to Battle Skynet

'How Can We Fix It?': Catwoman Director on What Went Wrong With the 2004 Film
Image
Halle Berry's Catwoman is among the more polarizing comic book adaptations, as it was instantly met with fan backlash and negative reviews upon release. After two decades, director Pitof looks back on where the movie went wrong.

In honor of Catwoman celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Pitof spoke at length about the film in a new interview with CinemaBlend. Addressing the negative reception, Pitof said that the biggest issue can be traced to the script. According to the director, the screenplay still had not yet been finalized by the time shooting began, and this led to major problems in the editing process. Looking back at the ordeal 20 years later, Pitof suggested that the film could have been saved if there had been more time given to polish the script before rolling cameras.

Everything We Learned About Terminator Zero From the Trailer
Image
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Terminator franchise has been one of the most popular of all time. While the recent movies didn't get as much love, the James Cameron films remain top-tier stuff. To that point, Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are regarded as some of the best action movies ever.

Now, Netflix is getting in on the sci-fi property. This comes via the anime, Terminator Zero. Interestingly, from the latest trailer, it looks like the war between man and machine will be taking shocking twists and turns in Japan. It foreshadows a ton of unpredictable swerves in a medium that holds so much potential for spectacle.

Halle Berry Would Return as Catwoman Under the Right Conditions
Image
Halle Berry wouldn't mind returning to play an iconic comic book character once again. Just not the one you're thinking of. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Berry discussed her recent birthday, carrying the torch at the Paris Olympics, and celebrating the 20th anniversary of her DC Comics film Catwoman. DC fans may have tried to erase that film from their collective memory, but Berry hasn't, and insists she would be willing to reprise the role, under one condition.

Catwoman PG-13ActionCrimeFantasy

Catwoman is the story of shy, sensitive artist Patience Philips (Halle Berry), a woman who can't seem to stop apologizing for her own existence. Halle Berry Expresses Interest in Directing a New Catwoman Movie

Halle Berry On Reprising Catwoman Role In Sequel: “Maybe, If I Could Direct It”

Halle Berry is leaving the door open to reprising her Catwoman role, which she portrayed in the 2004 film directed by Pitof.

The star of The Union hinted that there’s one way to get her to wear the catsuit again.

“Maybe, if I could direct it,” Berry told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show after the host asked her if she would reprise the superhero role.

During her appearance on the NBC late-night show, Berry also recalled the film on its 20th anniversary from the release.

Berry said she “loved it” and recalled critics “panned” the film. However, one thing gives the star vindication 20 years later.

“What I’m happy about is… the children have found it now on the internet,” she added. “The kids love it. So it’s so vindicating because now they’re saying, ‘It’s cool,’ and ‘What the heck was everybody’s problem with it?...

Halle Berry Wants to Give Catwoman Another Chance After 'Unfair' Treatment
Image
Catwoman star Halle Berry keeps purring for a potential return as the DC hero. The Academy Award-winning actor hopes for a second chance at portraying the character after the "unfair" treatment of her and the titular 2004 film.

Speaking to the Canadian Press at the premiere of The Union, Berry expressed her desire to reprise her role as Patience Phillips in another project following Catwoman's poor reception. When asked which of her past characters she'd like to bring back at some point, Berry said, "I would bring back Catwoman, if I really got a chance to. I think what happened to her the first time around was unfair." She also believes Catwoman deserves her flowers and would be more appreciated today, saying, "I think she's way underrated, and I would love to give it another shot."

Warner Bros. Had A Strict Batman Rule For Halle Berry's Catwoman Movie
Image
When Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" was released in 1992, it was received with — to this author's recollection — a mixed amount of enthusiasm. The film was a hit, making over $266 million on an $80 million budget, but Burton's vision was described by critics and some audiences as being too odd. It was a bleak and strange film about how heroes and villains are indistinguishable, both of them bizarre freaks in a film noir world defined by entropy. The most notable character from "Batman Returns" was Catwoman, played by a vinyl-clad Michelle Pfeiffer. Indeed, the character was so popular that Warner Bros. semi-announced a "Catwoman" stand-alone feature in 1993, set to re-team Pfeiffer and Burton.

That feature never came together. The script, written by Daniel Waters, was considered too "adult," and by 1995, Pfeiffer had lost interest. For a brief moment, Ashley Judd was slated to take over the role, but she also dropped out.

Catwoman's Halle Berry Recalls Firestorm Surrounding Her Revealing Costume
Image
Catwoman continues to divide opinion 20 years after its release, with star Halle Berry bearing the brunt of its criticism. The Academy Award winner and a producer of the derided superhero film believe the furor surrounding the titular character's suit helped ignite the negativity.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Catwoman producer Denise Di Novi insisted that the backlash towards the movie began with Berry's revealing catsuit for the film, with an earlier version of the outfit leaking online and sparking fan outrage. "That was the first thing that started the negativity. It was an early shot before wed perfected it," she said. "A catsuit, by definition, everything is covered up. “A very grounded vengeance story”: Forget Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray, 1 DC Film Suffered a Real Case of Lost in Translation After Being Dragged for 10 Years

DC’s Catwoman has famously been regarded as one of the worst superhero films of all time. There are several reasons why critics and fans absolutely detest the film; ranging from the lack of substance, comic inaccuracy, and specifically, how much it relied on Halle Berry’s looks to carry the film. It is safe to say that the movie is nearly impossible to watch for anyone ever briefly familiar with Selina Kyle’s character.

Halle Berry Criticizes Catwomans Plot: That Was a Soft Superhero Plight

The Game: What Happened to David Fincher’s Most Underrated Movie?
Image
Over the past three decades, few filmmakers have mastered their craft better than David Fincher. With a fastidious eye for framing and a deep focus on directorial details, Fincher has fashioned some of the most precisely orchestrated cinematic outings since his big screen debut in 1992. Yet, for most avid cinephiles and casual movie fans alike, Fincher will almost always be most associated with Se7en and Fight Club in the 90s and perhaps The Social Network and Gone Girl in the 2010s. If that’s an accurate assessment, then it begs the question – what is David Fincher’s all-time most underrated movie? While the recent release of The Killer is a worthy candidate, and a serious case can be made for Zodiac, The Game continues to be a criminally unheralded psychological thriller that, upon repeat viewings, toys and torments the audience with devious plotting and duplicitous tricks as only Fincher can forge.

David Fincher Thriller The Game to Be Adapted Into a TV Series
Image
The Game, a cult classic thriller from the 80s directed by David Fincher, will be adapted into a television series by Kevin Williamson, known for the Scream saga. The movie, despite being overshadowed by Fincher's other films, is still captivating and intriguing, which is why it was chosen for the television adaptation. This deal with Universal Television also includes a series adaptation of Rear Window and The It Girl, showcasing Williamson's creativity and success as a producer.

80s cult classic thriller directed by David Fincher, The Game, will become a television series thanks to the writer and producer of the Scream saga, Kevin Williamson.

The movie, which stars Michael Douglas, Sean Penn and Deborah Kara Unger, was the third project in Fincher's career as a director, after Alien 3 and Se7en, and just before Fight Club, which may have caused it to also be forgotten among his filmography. But...

David Fincher Cult Classic Thriller Getting TV Remake From Scream Creator
Image
David Fincher's The Game is getting a TV remake after nearly 30 years, and it could be even more terrifying in a modern context. Fincher has been critical of his work on the original movie, particularly the third act, but the themes of isolation and technology are perfect for a modern retelling. The updated version of The Game could explore how technology can be used against the central character, raising the stakes and capitalizing on suspenseful potential.

Nearly 30 years after the original movie hit theaters, David Fincher's The Game is getting a TV remake. The 1997 thriller revolved around Michael Douglas' Nicholas Van Orton, a wealthy investment banker who is invited by his estranged brother to take part in a mysterious game, resulting in a deadly web of paranoia and dark secrets being unearthed. Scream Writer Kevin Williamson Developing Shows Based On Rear Window, The Game, And More
Image
Ever since he exploded onto the horror scene in 1996 by revitalizing the slasher flick with his screenplay for "Scream," Kevin Williamson has been one of Hollywood's go-to writer/creators for teen skewing films and television shows — and it all happened so fast. Within a span of three months, Williamson had "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Scream 2" tearing up the box office, and "Dawson's Creek" posting impressive Nielsen ratings for the WB.

He's had a couple of brief down periods, but he's never gone completely away (he rode out a rough creative run in the 2010s simply by having "The Vampire Diaries" on the air). Still, it's been a while since his name moved the needle in Hollywood, although his Covid-19 slasher "Sick" from 2022 did pretty well on streaming. But had the Gen X-er who'd connected so palpably with younger viewers for 20-plus years finally lost his touch?...

Kevin Williamson risks taunting the ghost of Alfred Hitchcock with a Rear Window TV series
Image
Putting a fresh spin on one of the greatest movies of all time can’t be an easy task, but Kevin Williamson is up for the challenge. Deadline reports that the Scream writer is developing a TV series reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, and I can already hear the cries of sacrilege.

Based on Cornell Woolrich’s 1942 short story It Had to Be Murder, Rear Window starred Jimmy Stewart as a photographer in a wheelchair who spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend, played by Grace Kelly. To be fair, the iconic film was remade before with the 1998 made-for-tv movie starring Christopher Reeve. There’s also Disturbia, which was at least partially inspired by the Hitchcock film.

Thompson co-writing alongside Williamson, and The Waterfront, based on an original concept, have been taken out to the marketplace, I hear. The Razzies Are Coming to TV for the First Time in 40 Years
Hollywood's worst movies and performances are about to be honored on TV. Comedy Dynamics is bringing The Razzies to TV for the first time in its nearly 40-year history. The parody awards show enjoys taking aim at the worst of the worst and nobody is safe. For instance, Donald Trump dominated this year's awards, taking home the Worst Actor award for his work on Death of a Nation and Fahrenheit 11/9 as himself. Holmes & Watson was also a big winner this year. The show will be able to be seen by anyone who gets the Comedy Dynamics channel.

The Razzie Awards were co-founded by UCLA film students and entertainment veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy. The annual ceremony takes place in Los Angeles one day before the Academy Awards ceremony. The annual event has been making fun of the stuffier awards shows for decades and they're almost always a good time,...

For the Man Who Has Everything: Close-Up on "The Game"
Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. David Fincher's The Game (1997) is showing March 23 – April 22, 2019 in many countries around the world.“...from any given body of fictional text, nothing necessarily follows, and anything plausibly may.”—William H. Gass, “The Concept of Character in Fiction”What is The Game? “The eternal question,” an unnamed character intones, when he is asked this by its newest player, Nicholas van Orton (Michael Douglas), a middle-aged millionaire unaccustomed to befuddlement. Mainstream critics, who similarly dislike being perplexed, didn’t quite know what to make of the film when it premiered in 1997: responses were tepid and noncommittal, and, despite its $100 million box office draw, it has long been considered a minor work in David Fincher’s oeuvre, ensconced between the seminal Se7en (1995) and the belatedly-loved Fight Club (1999). It is a film that is at once subtle and silly, whose perfunctory...

Emoji Movie Tops 2018 Razzie Awards Winners List
T.J. Miller at an event for Yogi l'ours (2010)
In what will come as a shock to probably nobody, The Emoji Movie has won the Worst Picture Award at the 2018 Razzie Awards. The T.J. Miller starring movie was destined for the award right from the start when it received an unprecedented zero percent on Rotten Tomatoes during its opening weekend. It has since climbed to a respectable six percent on the popular movie review aggregate website. In a statement, Razzies organizers branded the film a "talking poop opus," which is pretty much true except for the opus part.

The Emoji Movie took home Worst Picture along with a few other honors at the 2018 Razzie Awards. Worst Onscreen Combo also went to the movie, but it wasn't specific and just said that it went to any two Emoji characters on the screen together at the same time. The Emoji Movie also took home the Worst Director Award, which went to Anthony (Tony) Leondis.

‘The Hunter’s Prayer’ DVD Review
Stars: Sam Worthington, Odeya Rush, Allen Leech, Tina Maskell, Eben Young, Stephanie Dooley, Eudald Font, Amy Landecker, Martin Compston | Written by John Brancato, Michael Ferris | Directed by Jonathan Mostow

Lucas, (Sam Worthington) is a solitary assassin who is hired to kill a young woman, Ella (Odeya Rush). When he can’t bring himself to pull the trigger the plan falls apart, setting in motion a twisted game of cat and mouse with both now marked for death. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the pair is relentlessly pursued across Europe, their only hope for survival lying in the exposure of those responsible for the brutal murder of Ella’s family…

Based on Kevin Wignall’s novel For the Dogs, The Hunter’s Prayer is a EuropaCorp-wannabe that sorely needed the guidance of Luc Besson and his team to pull this out of the by-the-numbers Bourne-inspired, generic action thriller doldrums within which it resides.

‘Dead Rising: Endgame’ Review
Stars: Jesse Metcalfe, Keegan Connor Tracy, Jessica Harmon, Dennis Haysbert, Marie Avgeropoulos, Teach Grant, Dakota Guppy, Stephen Lobo, Curtis Lum, Lee Majdoub, Luvia Petersen, Sandy Robson, Heather Roop, Patrick Sabongui | Written by Michael Ferris, Tim Carter | Directed by Pat Williams

There are a plethora of really shitty movies based on video games being released each year. None of them holding a candle to the source material it is based on. However each and every time I get suckered in because I want to be impressed by these attempts, as a movie fan and a gamer I need to be impressed. And let’s be honest, the premise of the Dead Rising games is just about absurd enough to work as a movie and with this being the second outing well have they learnt.

Based on the worldwide smash-hit video game series, Dead Rising: Endgame is the sequel to last years...

Dead Rising: Endgame Review
I don’t understand Crackle’s Dead Rising franchise. Capcom built this zany, wild video game universe that’d be perfect for a hybrid experience somewhere between The Warriors and 28 Days Later, yet these movies are generically neutered. References to original content are just lazy winks, while the whole “psychopaths” arc is completely abandoned in favor of a boring Zombrex conspiracy. I was hoping that Dead Rising: Endgame would atone for Watchtower‘s forgettable adaptation, but, unfortunately, new director Pat Williams falls victim to the same dull tricks from Zach Lipovsky’s first attempt.

Jesse Metcalfe once again stars as investigative journalist Chase Carter, who must journey into the heart of East Mission to stop General Lyons (Dennis Haysbert) from killing every Zombrex-using survivor. Since the first film, technology has been developed that releases Zombrex doses through an implanted chip, but Lyons wants to overload the system and use the...

Crackle’s Undead Army Marches On With Zombie Sequel Dead Rising: Endgame
Ducking out of a theatrical run in the vein of its predecessor, Sony’s Crackle and Legendary are partnering to release zombie-infested sequel Dead Rising: Endgame across streaming and video-on-demand services later in 2016, and it’s understood production is now officially underway on the film’s Vancouver set.

Continuing on the undead adventure, Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die) reprises his Watchtower role as Chase Carter, now tasked with unravelling new mysteries that spawn a government conspiracy. In attempting to manufacture a cure, the plot description hints that the afflicted residents of East Mission City were instead used as the test subjects for Billy Zane’s “handsome, cruel” scientist, Rand.

Behind the lens, director Zach Lipovsky won’t return for Endgame and is replaced by Pat Williams (Cotinuum). That said, Crackle’s follow-up kept hold of its writing duo from the original, ensuring that both Tim Carter and Michael Ferris...

Xander Cage edges closer to a return, as the cast for xXx 3 starts to come together...

It's looking like the long-mooted xXx 3 might finally be getting moving. Whilst Vin Diesel's immediate priority is to shoot Fast & Furious 8 ahead of its release next year, he's expected to film the third Xander Cage movie before 2016 is out (with Riddick 4 next after that). What's more, we've learned of some casting for the movie, that suggests it may well be full steam ahead for the xXx sequel.

Diesel will be reprising the role of Xander Cage, and he's set to be joined in the movie by Jet Li, Tony Jaa and Deepika Padukone. Their exact roles have not yet been revealed.

xXx 3 is set to be directed by D J Caruso, with Michael Ferris and John Brancato on scripting duties. More on the movie has we hear it.
