Fox News’ Ultimate Boss Suggests News Ratings May Fall Post-Election
Image
Sean Hannity may not be worried about the 2020 election — if he is, he hasn’t said it on his Fox News Channel show — but his ultimate boss has indicated media investors might have some cause for concern.

The executive who has final oversight of Fox News Channel suggested Tuesday that the surge in audiences enjoyed by news networks may fall noticeably after the 2020 election — a development that could have ramifications for some of the nation’s biggest media companies.

“I would expect that as we enter a more normal news cycle, which will happen eventually, that appetite for news will shift,” said Lachlan Murdoch, executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation, during a Tuesday call with investors. Fox, he added, would focus on keeping its share of viewership, so that it could continue to maintain leverage in the advertising market and wield influence with its audience and newsmakers.

Lester Holt Will Bring Kids’ ‘Nightly News’ to NBC’s Saturday-Morning TV (Exclusive)
Image
Lester Holt’s next NBC job takes him from serious “Nightly News” to a part of the TV schedule once known for being more animated.

The veteran anchor will this weekend debut his “Kids’ Edition” of NBC’s evening newscast on its Saturday A.M. schedule, just in time to talk about the looming 2020 election — and Halloween, to boot.

“I don’t have to wear a tie, which is always fun,” quips Holt in a recent interview.

Holt’s dress may be casual, but there’s something potentially consequential about the maneuver, and not just because the anchor often uses the program to answer children’s questions about the coronavirus pandemic. “Nightly News: Kids” Edition” (complete with a young person doing a voice-over introduction) has been streaming once or twice a week on NBCNews.com since it debuted in April, and NBC’s interest in trying it on traditional television...

Nickelodeon, Disney and Sesame Workshop, three of the nation’s best known makers of kids’ entertainment, are going to start tackling more dramatic stuff.

Welcome to the TV-News Business, Viacom (Analysis)
As the owner of the Paramount movie studio, Viacom is often on the lookout for drama. Who knew its newest potboiler would come from one of the units it got paired with as a result of its merger with CBS?

CBS News is in the business of producing “60 Minutes” and “Face The Nation,” but in recent days the division has had its collective hands full with some kind of soap opera: Gayle King, one of its most prominent on-air journalists, was threatened online by Snoop Dogg as well as others after a snippet of an interview she conducted with Wnba player Lisa Leslie about the death of former basketball great Kobe Bryant went viral. The short clip that got passed around online, just one short exchange in a much longer interview, showed King asking Leslie about sexual-assault charges levied against Bryant in an earlier part of his career. After Snoop Dogg’s threats,...

When it comes to Prince Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle, it seem she wears the pants! "She is definitely the one wearing the trousers in their relationship," a royal insider told People in a new interview. "She is a strong, opinionated woman who has her own ideas about things, and that’s one of the things he loves about her." Perhaps it's because she was a Hollywood actress before getting engaged to Harry. "Meghan was established before she met Harry," said the source. "That’s a first for the royal family. I don’t think Harry was ever going to marry a nice upper-class girl from the [English] counties — it’s just not him." But don't worry, the prince is not afraid to admit that his lady is in charge. Just call her “Super Woman.”

Before she became a successful actress in Suits or engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was following her moral compass and speaking out against issues – especially pertaining to equality.

Meghan was inspired to change a TV commercial at the age of 11, after having seen a Procter & Gamble commercial that advertised its Ivory dishwashing soap solely to women.

The commercial for the soap struck her as unfair and insensitive when she heard, “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”

“I don’t think it’s right for kids to grow up thinking these things,...

As the world learns to know and love Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's new fiancée, many facts about the future royal have been at the forefront of the cultural conversation, including her career goals, her family background, and even her fitness routine. But one of our favorite detail of Meghan's life thus far might be her history of activism . . . which started far before Harry ever knew her name. Following the royal engagement news, a video resurfaced of an 11-year-old Meghan fighting for equality after seeing a sexist TV commercial in true '90s fashion - with a segment on Nickelodeon's Nick News with Linda Ellerbee. Back in 2015, Meghan shared the story about her first foray into women's advocacy at a Un Women's event in Beijing. Meghan Markle Challenged Gender Roles in an Ad at 11 Years Old -- and Made a Big Change
Meghan Markle
Giving up her acting career to focus on royal duties and charitable efforts wasn't a big deal for Meghan Markle. The 36-year-old actress has been using her voice to speak out for others since she was a kid.

At just 11 years old, Markle was responsible for shaking up the advertising industry, after challenging the "sexist" language in an Ivory dish soap commercial, which proclaimed that "women are fighting greasy pots and pans."

The actress spoke out about the event during a 2015 speech at the Un on International Women's Day, recalling getting upset after two male classmates joked about how women "belong" in the kitchen.

"I remember feeling shocked and angry and also just feeling so hurt. It just wasn't right and something needed to be done," she said, revealing that her father encouraged her to write letters, which she did to "the most powerful people I could think of."

Markle wrote letters to civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred, then-first...

Inside Meghan Markle's Road to American Royalty
Meghan Markle
Meghan Markle was destined to be a royal!

The 36-year-old actress and Prince Harry announced their engagement this week, and she will soon be by his side to work together on causes dear to their hearts.

Markle may be known for her role as Rachel Zane on Suits, but the brunette beauty has also been giving back to the community and fighting for women's rights long before her ties to Prince Harry and her expected soon-to-be royal duties.

Her humanitarian and philanthropic work began prior to her becoming an actress. It all began with her mother, Doria Ragland, who has a master's degree in social work and works as a psychotherapist. In an interview with Glamourearlier this year, Markle listed her mom as one of the women who changed her life.

"My mom's a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community," she stated. "For me...

One of her No. 1 causes is women’s rights and female empowerment. Through her work as a Un Women’s advocate and trips abroad for philanthropic causes, Markle has made her impact long before her romance with Harry.

Along the way she’s been an outspoken activist, seeking to encourage other women and lend her voice and celebrity to good causes. Here are some of the more inspirational things she’s said:

1) During a 2015 interview with Larry King, the interviewer commented on Markle’s good looks, asking her if her looks affected her advocacy, saying, “You’re not the average American woman, Meghan, admit it.”

Markle quickly replied, "No matter what you look like...

The first round of 2014 Emmy Awards were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday (August 16) night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
