Maude Eburne in A Pair of Sixes (1918)
Eburne started on the stage in Ontario and New York, later appearing on Broadway in 1914, playing a cockney maid. She played comic servants on stage until 1930 then moved to films in 1931. On screen, she played a variety of roles from maids to aristocrats to pipe-smoking harridans. Eburne retired from the screen in 1951.

It was more than a decade before she was cast in her next film, the early sound film "The Bat Whispers" (1930) in the key role of Lizzie the maid in which her distinctive voice was first heard. The following year (1931) she appeared in no less than nine credited roles and her prolific career continued until her retirement from the screen in 1951.
