Gael García Bernal in No (2012)
Who would win in a fight?: Ms. Marvel vs. Green Lantern
Gael García Bernal in No (2012)
Light-based powers, artists, and successors of a long lineage of heroes, both Ms. Marvel and Green Lantern are legacy heroes with limitless imagination. But what would happen if the Marvel Comics fan-favorite and the DC Comics veteran were to go up against each other?

We're here to answer: If these two beloved characters were to fight in a crossover, who would win?

Ms. Marvel / Kamala Khan (MCU)

Kamala Khan’s just your average nerdy teen from Jersey City—fangirl, daydreamer, Avengers stan. Her life takes a sharp left when she finds this old bangle stashed in her family’s attic, and boom—suddenly she’s throwing glowing punches and running across the sky on platforms made of light like it’s no big deal.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her powers aren’t from Terrigen Mist like they are in the comics. No, it’s way messier and more mysterious.

Moroi Review: Blood, Slime, and Memory Fragments
Image
Moroi greets you in a slime‑slick prison under a blood‑red moon, where every corridor drips with menace and mystery. Developed by solo creator Violet Saint and released by Good Shepherd Entertainment in April 2025 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, this isometric action‑adventure weaves RPG mechanics into a surreal horror canvas.

You awaken stripped of memory in the Cosmic Engine, a shifting sky‑bound gaol fueled by dark machinery and dripping with blood. Armed only with a basic blade, you must slash through grotesque foes, solve environmental puzzles, and piece together fragments of your past. Drawing on Romanian folklore—where a Moroi is a wandering spirit that feeds on the living—Saint layers a pounding heavy‑metal soundtrack over Lynch‑inspired oddities, from a talking duck that trades teeth for upgrades to a slug‑like villain bursting from a corpse.

Moroi’s design shines brightest when its combat, exploration,...

Shudder has acquired Push, from the creators of The Boy Behind the Door
Image
Shudder has acquired Push, the new film written and directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell. The horror streaming platform previously acquired Charbonier’s and Powell’s thriller The Boy Behind the Door in 2021.

The two creators, who have been friends since childhood, were interviewed by 1428 Elm after The Boy Behind the Door came to Shudder. During the interview, we talked about that film and their other horror/thriller The Djinn, which premiered around the same time.

Both of their previous films placed focus on kids, and both starred Ezra Dewey. With Push, Charbonier and Powell step into the world of home invasion, telling the story of Natalie Flores, a realtor who is holding an open house at a huge property she is tasked with selling. Unfortunately, the home was the site of a grisly murder years earlier. Natalie, who is pregnant, is attacked by a killer during her open house,...

Nour El Nabawy, Lin Yin & Kayode Akinyemi To Star In Ali F. Mostafa’s Dubai-Set ‘City of Life Continuum’
Image
Nour El Nabawy, Lin Yin and Kayode Akinyemi have been unveiled as key cast of Emirati director Ali F. Mostafa’s long-awaited feature City of Life Continuum as principal photography gets underway at Dubai Studios.

The movie is a sequel to Mostafa’s 2009 first feature City of Life, which made history as the first local production to achieve box success as the United Arab Emirates first began building a domestic film and TV sector some 15 years ago.

It is Mostafa’s fourth feature in a filmography which also includes From A to B, following three estranged friends who reconnect during a road trip from Abu Dhabi to Beirut, and dystopian drama The Worthy.

Rising Egyptian star El Nabawy, who is represented by Cairo-based Mad Celebrity, is coming off a high profile 2024 as one of the stars of Egypt’s hit coming-of-age soccer drama duopoly Underdogs (El Hareefa) and El Hareefa...

10 Things You Forgot About The Witcher During the Long Wait for Season 4
Image
It's been almost a year and a half since the conclusion of Netflix's The Witcher Season 3. Season 4 is set to be released sometime in 2025, but there isn't a confirmed date yet. The best guess anyone can come up with is anywhere between July and September. By the time Season 4 rolls out, over two years will have passed since Season 3. Unfortunately, this has become somewhat commonplace for Netflix. Stranger Things has long gaps between each season and so do other incredible series like Wednesday and Squid Game.

To be fair about The Witcher's long hiatus, the show's production has faced a lot of setbacks. The most obvious challenge, of course, is that Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher himself, is being replaced. For the first three seasons, Henry Cavill played Geralt, but the final two seasons will feature Liam Hemsworth in his place. Regardless of the reasons for the delay,...

10 Shonen Anime Characters with The Strongest Kicks, Ranked
Image
Whether a series is primarily centered around hand-to-hand combat, like Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho, or more focused on its own magic system, like Bleach or Naruto, there's typically at least one character in any Shōnen anime whose specialty is kicking. Characters who primarily punch or use swords may tend to be more popular, but there's arguably far more room for creativity with fights based entirely around kicks. What's more, specializing in kicking can potentially make a fighter as powerful as anything else can.

Shōnen anime heroes like Sanji and Might Guy show the true power of kicks, and there are many more like them. Outside of kicking specialists, there are also more well-rounded fighters who frequently utilize kicks in battles. Whichever path they've chosen, these 10 characters have some of the strongest kicks in their entire medium.

‘The Glassworker’ Review: Pakistan’s First Hand-Drawn Feature Feels Like an Homage to Miyazaki
Image
It’s a herculean task to channel Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese animation legend behind “The Boy and the Heron” and many more. However, Pakistani production “The Glassworker” goes beyond merely aping Miyazaki’s distinctive style. It gets to the heart of the anti-war sentiment that underscores much of his work — and that of Studio Ghibli more broadly, including “Grave of the Fireflies” director Isao Takahata — resulting in a film that, like many Ghibli productions, feels at once familiar and fresh.

The directorial debut of Usman Riaz, “The Glassworker” is Pakistan’s first fully hand-drawn feature, crafted by Mano Animation Studios under the mentorship of Ghibli producer Geoffrey Wexler. Miyazaki’s sensibility practically runs through the movie’s veins, beginning with its setting: a vibrant early-20th-century town called Waterfront designed of a combination of European and Asian influences. Its buildings are in the Dutch Renaissance style, while its characters — who are ethnically diverse,...

Gladiator II Features a Fan-Favorite MCU Actor, But Squanders Their Role
Image
Quick Links Where Does May Calamawy Appear in Gladiator II? How May Calamawy Is Wasted in Gladiator II

The following contains spoilers for Gladiator II, now playing in theaters.

As casting news for Ridley Scott's Gladiator II trickled out, fans of Marvel Studios were ecstatic to see May Calamawy has been offered a role. She was a tour de force in Moon Knight, where she played Layla, Marc Spector's wife. Together with Moon Knight, she became a hero. May turned into an avatar for Taweret, aka the Scarlet Scarab.

As Scarlet Scarab, Layla helped Moon Knight stop Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow and the cult of Ammit, an evil crocodile god. May had tremendous chemistry with Oscar Isaac and proved -- with her wings and acrobatic combat style -- she was just as effective and action-oriented as the Falcon. Unfortunately, Scott's sequel narrowed her role down significantly, which...

Horror Legends Robert Englund and Tony Todd Battled an Evil Genie in This Wacky Horror Movie
Image
Wishmaster has everything a horror fan could want, from great practical effects to an abundance of horror cameos, all brought together by an all-timer villainous performance from Andrew Divoff as the Djinn. Conceptually, it is ripe for creativity as the titular Wishmaker has no bounds to his wish-granting abilities. This allows the movie to use practical effects to create bold and extravagant kill sequences orchestrated by director Robert Kurtzman, who has a background in special effects makeup. Wishmaster is packed full of gross, gory sequences but also has a fun interactive element of trying to decipher what the Djinn will do. It never quite achieved the status of other big horror icons such as Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger, and likely suffered from being released the year after Scream. However, it captures the fun of '80s horror, blending dark humor with disturbing visuals. And most fun of all is...

The choices for movies to watch on Occult Day (November 18) are endless, but what about the lesser known Craze? This adaptation of Henry Seymour‘s novel The Infernal Idol is a grisly delight. Jack Palance (Alone in the Dark) is the murderous antiques dealer whose killing spree is done in the name of an African idol.

The 15 Best Episodes of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’
Image
Picking the best episodes of FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” is kind of like… well, like picking your favorite character on “What We Do in the Shadows.” Or your favorite guest star. Or your favorite aspect of the series created by Jemaine Clement and based on the film he made with Taika Waititi in 2014; it’s just wrong, impossible, unnatural — like vampires themselves, some might argue.

For the IndieWire team, this masochistic exercise was born from our denial that the series from showrunner Paul Simms will end its run with Season 6, which premiered on October 21 with three episodes. Soon, fans will have seen every episode of the entire show, and that’s a milestone we dread even while feeling gratitude that “Shadows” gets to end on its own terms and a high note.

To celebrate the finale episodes and the triumph of this series, we picked 15 of...

Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie Endings That Never Really Paid Off (At Least Not Yet)
Image
Part of what many fans love about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is how Marvel Studios hints at the next big event or reveals surprise character introductions with each movie. It evokes one of the most iconic things about Marvel Comics, with big font stingers exhorting True Believers to stay tuned. Even if the onslaught of MCU media has worn deep tracks in the greater film/TV audience over the last decade, there's still a thrill to a well-executed stinger or credit cookie.

However, for every promise that the Avengers will return or a tease of Thanos' threatening rise to power, there's a chance that we might not see a cool hint pay off down the road. There are several things that have been teased in the MCU, especially in credits scenes that have yet to yield any significant results. While that can be disappointing, especially for fans of newly introduced characters or plot threads,...

Forget Ghost Ship Wes Craven Gave Us the Best Horror Opening
Image
Quick Links Why Wishmaster's Disturbing Opening Outdoes Ghost Ship How Wishmaster is an Underrated Wes Craven Cult Classic What Modern Horror Movies Can Learn From Wishmaster Wes Craven is the Master of Horror Openings

Ghost Ship's initial minutes are often regarded as the best horror movie opening, but arguably, horror icon Wes Craven gave audiences something better. The art of the opening can be grossly underrated and taken for granted by audiences. Filmmakers don't have more than a few moments to capture moviegoers, keep them gripping their seats, and convince them to see where things are going. When it comes to horror movies, the best usually have an iconic opening kill or a thrilling villain to let people know what they're in for. Ghost Ship's opening is undeniably slick and creative, often remembered as the film's standout moment. However, revisiting Wes Craven's Wishmaster reveals an opening that terrifies,...

“He has many unusual movements…”: Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Struggled with 1 Character Above All Others
Image
We have come across a range of characters in Dragon Ball that are unique in their own ways. While Cell can absorb things using his tail, Janemba can open Dimensional Holes to return the ‘favor’ to its opponents, and Zarbon is in himself a beauty and a beast.

These are a few antagonists in the series that tell us how unique the bad boys club in the series is. But then there is one character that appears cute but is capable of vanishing a galaxy in the blink of an eye. Sparking Zero producer Jun Furutani talked a bit about him in an interview recently.

Majin Buu was a Galactic Threat in Dragon Ball Z for a Reason

Creating a Budokai Tenkaichi game after so many years isn’t supposed to be a cakewalk, a lot goes into its development. Similarly, creating the Majin Buu saga in the game was one hard nut to crack.

Majin Buu Saga marked the end of Dragon Ball Z and gave the fans a worthy ending. Though more sagas emerged following it, it became one of the most beloved arcs the series has ever seen. The arc was the first time we got to see Vegito come out of the Potara fusion.

Now the saga has returned, and it is better than ever. The upcoming Bandai Namco game recently gave us a glimpse of how they have recreated the story. That is certain to give tough competition to the original anime itself.

Fans Cannot Wait for the Game After Witnessing Majin Buu

With those juicy story arcs coming to the upcoming Spike Chunsoft game, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero‘s story mode is sure to last for years. We have got Saiyan, Namek, and Cell sagas confirmed recently; now it’s time to add the Majin Buu saga to the list.

15 Best Episodes Of The Blacklist, Ranked
Image
The Blacklist excelled by focusing on the complex relationship between Red and Elizabeth, not just the villains. Memorable villains like Dr. Linus Creel and Milton Bobbit elevated single episodes into standout moments. The best episodes, like "The Djinn" and "The Director: Conclusion," expertly intertwined procedural plots with overarching narratives.

The Blacklist might have been a procedural crime drama, but it was much more than that, and the best episodes prove what a stellar piece of television it is. The series stars James Spader as Raymond "Red" Reddington, a Naval Intelligence officer turned criminal mastermind who works with the FBI to keep him out of prison in exchange for helping them catch the world's most notorious criminals. Alongside him is the FBI profiler, Elizabeth Keen, played by Megan Boone, who has a hidden connection to Red that is the major question on the audience's lips until the end.

Wishmaster Gave Us One of Horror's Most Underrated Villains
Image
Quick Links The Mythology of Wishmaster's Djinn Explained Why Wishmaster's Djinn is One of Horror's Greatest Villains Why Wishmaster Deserves Better Wishmaster introduced one of the most entertaining horror villains of the '90s. The Djinn has appeared in multiple movies yet doesn't get the fanfare he deserves. Wishmaster has a lot to offer in relation to the modern horror landscape.

Everyone knows Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Pinhead, but Wishmaster gave audiences one of the most underrated horror villains. From Dracula to Jigsaw, a horror movie is usually only as good as its villain, and typically why they tend to get top billing. While horror fans love to discuss their favorite creatures, slashers, and evil scientists, Wishmaster's twisted Djinn rarely gets a seat at that table. Adilah In ‘The Veil’ Explained: Is Adilah Dead?
Image
How does an aspiring model who came to Paris hoping to make it big end up in a refugee camp? Well, that’s the story of Adilah in Stephen Knight’s wonderfully written political thriller, The Veil. When Adilah tries to distribute food bags amongst refugees, one woman identifies her as an Isis militant and calls her a “daesh” (the radical Sunni Muslim Organization). Adilah is dragged into the middle of a raging mob of women who have lost their husbands and children, and Un officials save her before she gets stomped to death. Now Adilah sits in a secluded tent being watched, while the Dgse, CIA, and Mi-6 all want her, suspecting she’s a high-ranking Isis commander, ‘Djinn al Raqqah.’

Spoilers Ahead

Why did Adilah trust Imogen?

Adilah got stranded with no help from anyone, and she could be killed by any one of the thousands of refugees in the camp.

‘The Veil’ Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Is Adilah Dead? Is Imogen’s Father Alive?
Image
FX’s spy thriller series The Veil comes to a conclusion this week with an intense but slightly unconvincing episode 6, as some serious revelations are made. Imogen had earlier managed to extract Adilah’s daughter Yasmina from Paris, as she wanted to reunite the girl and her mother, on the condition that Adilah would tell her the name of the ship carrying the bomb to America. On the other side, the French and American agencies, the Dgse, and the CIA, respectively, immediately respond to their main target, the Djinn of Al Raqqa, once again becoming fugitive with the help of the MI6 agent. Overall, The Veil had been hinting at a very personal storyline to take precedence, even though we were shown very little of it, and ultimately, it is indeed Imogen’s personal past that takes over in the end.

Spoiler Alert

What is Imogen’s plan with Adilah?...

The Avengers' Secret Weapon Against Kang Was Subtly Teased 2 Years Ago
Image
Captain Marvel may hold the key to battling Kang across realities, thanks to her incredible energy output shown in The Marvels. Ms. Marvel specified that it takes the power of a sun to travel to another dimension. A team of heroes with unique powers, including Captain Marvel, may be needed to defeat Kang as he traverses the multiverse.

The Avengers will need help battling against Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Ms. Marvel and The Marvels collectively tease a huge power upgrade for one hero that may be crucial. When Thanos destroyed the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Endgame, it took the combined knowledge of Tony Stark and team Ant-Man to develop the time-travel technology needed to win. Kang's gimmick is multiversal travel, so it may take a new combination of heroes to give the Avengers a chance.

The Thaumaturge: How To Find (& Beat) The Djinn (Optional Boss Fight)
Image
Quick Links "Fearless" Walkthrough Salutor Djinn Boss Fight & Recruitment

The Djinn is a great Salutor to have early on in The Thaumaturge with its unique curse skillset. Taming Djinn involves completing the "Fearless" side quest, where Wiktor tracks down a market thief and uncovers the reasons behind their pickpocketing spree. Intriguingly, players can also elect not to tame Djinn for a secret achievement, but this is best left for later playthroughs.

"Fearless" is unlocked in Act 1 after getting access to the Mirów district. More specifically, this quest located in the Gościnny Dwór bazaar in the northmost part of Mirów. Have some health-restoring abilities on hand, as Djinn's curses will slowly deplete Wiktor's health after timed delays.

This side quest can expire, so it is best to avoid going too far in the main story and complete "Fearless" as soon as possible to prevent losing out on Salutor Djinn.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a landmark horror film that solidified Tobe Hooper's legacy in the genre. Despite some misses like Djinn and Mortuary, Hooper's best movies showcase his impact on horror. Toolbox Murders and Poltergeist are standouts in Hooper's career, blending gore with supernatural elements.

After starting in 1969 with the little-known experimental release Eggshells, Hooper made his first horror movie in 1974 with the legendary The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The legacy of this movie alone would be enough to secure Hooper a place in the horror hall of fame. However, there is much more to Hooper's resumé than a single successful slasher.

Film Review: Three (2024) by Nayla Al Khaja
Image
Those who follow the genre's roots are well aware of the ties Arabic lands have with the concepts of possession and exorcism genres, even if the pieces haven't been made obvious. With the fateful openings of William Friedkin's “The Exorcist” finding itself involving the unearthing of the cursed statue on Iraqi soil and Scott Derrickson's “Deliver Us from Evil” bringing itself up in the same area, the Middle East has been used as the spawning ground for eternal evil striking in the modern day, even if both films took the action back to the States. With “Three,” the first feature-length film from the first female director from the United Arab Emirates in Nayla Al Khaja, the genre heads to this fertile ground and stays there for its duration lending a distinct touch to this well-worn path.

Fans have discovered an annoying Ms. Marvel-related mistake in The Marvels.

When Iman Vellani's character was first introduced in her Disney+ series, Marvel Studios made a handful of changes from her Marvel Comics counterpart. She was no longer Inhuman (instead being called a Djinn) and her entire power set was retooled, now being light-based instead of her classic polymorphing abilities.

In the show’s Season 1 finale, the story even directly teased that Kamala Khan was actually a mutant all along, which is another big shift away from her original incarnation.

Why Echo's MCU Powers Are Different Than The Comics Explained By Writer
Image
Echo's powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are different from the comics, tied to her emotional story and growth, as explained by co-Head Writer Amy Rardin. The MCU trend of giving characters emotional reasons for their powers continues with Echo. This approach to powers has been seen in other characters like Monica Rambeau in WandaVision and Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel.

Though generally a powerless character in the comics, co-Head Writer Amy Rardin explains why Maya's Marvel Cinematic Universe powers are different in Echo. The latest installment in the MCU saw Alaqua Cox's Hawkeye villain return to her hometown after seemingly killing Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and revisiting her painful family history. During the show, she learns of her lineage in the Choctaw Nation's history going back to their founders, a group of mystical beings who lived under the Earth before their home collapsed and forced them to rise to the surface.

The 1 Supernatural Episode That Was Directly Inspired By Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Image
Both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural drew from similar story elements, featuring sardonic heroes who hunted paranormal beings while leading normal lives. Supernatural, unlike Buffy, rarely borrowed plots from the earlier series, as it followed older heroes on a road trip rather than high schoolers. One episode of Supernatural, "What Is & What Should Never Be," was inspired by Buffy's "Normal Again," exploring alternate realities and the psychological torment experienced by the heroes.

One Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode inspired a later episode of Supernatural, although both shows approached the same basic storyline very differently. Supernatural and the earlier fantasy drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer shared a lot of the same elements. Both shows followed sardonic heroes who hunted paranormal beings while also trying to lead a normal civilian life, both shows featured a monster-of-the-week structure that introduced some truly terrifying and unintentionally funny villains, and both had a sense...

‘Genie’ Review: Melissa McCarthy Stars in a Fairy-Tale Comedy Written by Richard Curtis, but It’s No ‘Love Actually.’ More Like ‘Elf’ Meets ‘Love Sort Of’
Image
Genies, at least in pop culture, have long been comic foils. Way back in 1940, in “The Thief of Bagdad,” Rex Ingram played Djinn, the movie’s larger-than-life genie — 100 feet tall in his ponytail and red diaper — as a sly, laughing soul man of lighthearted effrontery. The surrealist ’60s sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie” featured Barbara Eden, in diaphanous harem silks, as a magical servant/housewife, blinking her eyes to teleport her clueless “master” out of trouble. And Robin Williams’ vocal performance as the Genie in “Aladdin” may have come closer than any of his other film performances to channeling Williams the free-associational joke geyser.

So in “Genie,” when Melissa McCarthy pops out of a jewel box and reveals herself to be an ancient granter of wishes named Flora, it’s hardly a surprise that 1) the character is a complete lark, and 2) the whole joke is that Flora, though she hasn...

Outside the States: Six Multi-Cultural Horror Movies You Need to Watch
Image
Nearly every culture in the world has contributed to the horror genre at one point or another, but it’s pretty clear that Hollywood is still the de facto capital of genre filmmaking. That’s why it makes sense that most popular horror tropes and monsters are based on traditional western mythology and religions, as these films are usually made by – and meant to appeal to – a certain demographic.

However, dealing with the same old ghouls and possessions can get old after a hundred and thirty years of cinema, and that’s why we’re lucky that some filmmakers decide to incorporate elements from lesser-known cultures into their scary stories. Whether it’s a foreign film daring to apply the “Hollywood” treatment to a local monster or a north American production taking inspiration from international legends (like Bishal Dutta’s recent It Lives Inside), some of the best horror experiences...

Fortunately, The Marvels are able to stop her from siphoning the star, but they’re still left with a gaping hole, causing another reality to bleed into theirs.

But, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) has a plan. If Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) can blast her with the same amount of energy that they hit Dar-Benn with,...

‘The Prisoner’ (Al Sajeen) Ending Explained: How Did the Family Escape the Djinn’s Horror?
Image
Arabic cinema often seems to follow the same blueprint for its movies. This blueprint frequently features a family settling into a new home, only to discover it’s plagued by Djinn or a man seeking wealth who strikes a bargain with these supernatural beings. Or where a Djinn materializes to punish those who’ve failed to honor their deals. As a result, the horror plays out like a repetitive tune. In Mahmoud Kamel’s latest horror thriller, The Prisoner (or Al Sajeen in Arabic), this design remains intact. The story centers around a family seeking comfort in their new home, hoping to escape the haunting memories of their past. Little do they realize that the horrors they’ll find in this house will eclipse any pain they’ve endured before.

Spoilers Ahead

Why Did Rawan And Ammar Move Into A New House?

The Prisoner begins with a middle-aged man shooting a woman in the back.

7 Superpowers Ms. Marvel Still Hasn't Used In The MCU
Image
Ms. Marvel's powers in the MCU have been changed from her abilities in the Marvel Comics, including her backstory as a mutant. In the comics, Ms. Marvel can elongate her limbs and change the size of her body, but in the MCU, she uses hard-light for these abilities. Ms. Marvel has a regenerative healing factor in the comics, but it hasn't been seen in the MCU yet. Her ability to completely alter her appearance has also not been displayed.

There are still several superpowers from Marvel Comics that Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, hasn't used since her MCU debut in Phase 4. Iman Vellani brought Kamala Khan into the MCU in 2022's Ms. Marvel on Disney+, adapted from the Captain Marvel superfan from New Jersey who debuted in Marvel Comics in 2014's Ms. Marvel #1. Black Knight Could Expand MCU Fantasy
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has the potential to expand the fantasy genre with the Black Knight. Fantasy and magic have been prominent in Marvel Comics, with connections to Atlantis, Asgard, and other powerful characters. Dane Whitman aka the Black Knight could introduce new characters, realms, and narratives, making fantasy a major genre in the MCU and expanding the Multiverse Saga.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a few brushes with the fantasy genre in its latest productions. From the Thor and Doctor Strange movies to the upcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries series, fantasy is becoming a popular accompanying genre in the MCU. However, there is one other character that can take the lore of fantasy and magic to the next level: Dane Whitman. Better known as the Black Knight, Dane Whitman was introduced in Eternals in 2021. Even though his future in the MCU is still uncertain, he has the potential to...

Make Your Wish: Robert Kurtzman’s ‘Wishmaster’ Is Just as Fun, Fearless and Frightening 26 Years Later
Image
The horror genre thrives upon cautionary tales where arrogant individuals believe that they can outsmart some supernatural force for their own gain. It’s for this reason that the greed-quenching Djinn and parables where people learn to be careful what they wish for, usually in the most morbid ways possible, are popular horror tropes. Djinn are a fascinating concept, but they’ve struggled to truly make their mark in cinema between largely-forgettable films like Jinn, The Djinn, Wish Upon, and even George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing. But Djinn stories can still be fun and effective in the right context. And Robert Kurtzman’s Wishmaster is still the premier djinn horror film over 25 years later.

Wishmaster is a movie that understands the unabashed joys of a big, dumb plot where there’s a giant magical gemstone that’s the key to the Djinn’s powers because why the hell not?...

The familiar and bodyguard with the Van Helsing DNA makes a choice, but now he has to live with it until he dies a natural death.

What’s Up With Guillermo’s Beard?

Vampires are immortal, spending their nights eternally frozen at the moment of death. They no longer breathe; they only consume blood, they don’t pump it; all their bodily functions cease. 10 Cheap MCU Deaths That Felt Totally Unearned
Image
Some deaths in the MCU have been poorly executed and didn't feel earned, such as Fandral's abrupt and meaningless death in Thor: Ragnarok. Strong and iconic villains like Crossbones and Ayesha have been wasted with rushed and unfulfilling deaths in Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Beloved characters like Maria Hill and Heimdall have been killed off without proper payoff or reason, leaving fans disappointed and wondering what could have been.

Several deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have felt cheap, rushed, or totally meaningless. Whether it's to raise the stakes of a movie or because a character's story is finished, some of the franchise's notable characters, both heroes and villains, need to be killed off. This can sometimes be a major event, particularly when high-profile characters such as Iron Man, Black Widow, or Gamora meet their demises, but there are many MCU characters who...

Ms. Marvel: How the Origin of Kamala's Powers are Perfect for the MCU
Image
Spoiler Warning: Ms. Marvel Season OneThe first season of Ms. Marvel wrapped last year on Disney+ to astounding critical success. The show was part of a new turn for Disney, being one among the few productions that focuses more directly on cultures that are not American. While this may have alienated some domestic audiences, what it did for the Marvel canon was astounding. Not only has it opened up the Marvel world to expand into more places besides America and space, but it’s also created another link in the chain that connects this new generation of superheroes.

But there were several things the Disney+ series changed about Ms. Marvel’s abilities. Though they remained largely the same in practice, save for those floating platforms she likes to walk on, Disney created many disparities with the comic book world that ended up raising some questions from Ms. Marvel fans.
