Disney to Bring ‘Tron: Ares’ to Comic-Con’s Hall H | Exclusive
Image
Following its CinemaCon presentation, Disney will bring “Tron: Ares” to San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, The Wrap has exclusively learned.

The sequel, directed by Joaquim Rønning (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”), follows a program called Ares (Jared Leto) who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

The third film in the “Tron” franchise, which began way back in 1982, arrives this Oct. 10. It is currently unknown if Leto will be in attendance since nine women have accused him of inappropriate conduct in an exposé published by Air Mail, including a strong denial from unnamed reps for the actor and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman.

In addition to Leto as Ares, the cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson and, of course,...

Phoenix, Kavinsky, and Belgian Vocalist Angèle Release Entrancing Remix of “Nightcall”: Stream
Image
Following a killer performance during the Olympics closing ceremony, Phoenix have jumped on a new remix of Kavinsky’s track “Nightcall” with Belgian vocalist Angèle. Stream it below.

Originally written by Kavinsky and Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, “Nightcall” was first released in 2010 and featured in the title sequence for the Ryan Gosling film Drive. During the closing ceremony in Paris, Phoenix debuted the reimagined version with Belgian star Angèle, which they’ve now officially recorded and released to streaming.

Capitalizing on the intensity and moodiness of the original song, Phoenix member Thomas Mars’ vocals interweave with those of Angèle in and out of the chorus to haunting effect. The pacing is also slightly quicker than the 2010 track, but the remix retains the ’80s flourishes of synths and vocoders.

After the song was premiered live during the most-viewed Olympics closing ceremony in history, “Nightcall” broke the record for the...

Trent Reznor
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to Compose Score for Disney’s ‘Tron: Ares’ – as Nine Inch Nails
Trent Reznor
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are getting zapped into the grid — and Nine inch Nails is back.

Disney announced, during its Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, that the influential composers behind “The Social Network” and HBO’s “Watchmen,” would be composing the original score for the forthcoming “Tron” sequel, “Tron: Ares,” which is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 10, 2025.

Reznor and Ross, who in addition to being Hollywood’s most in-demand composers are also members of industrial rock outfit Nine Inch Nails, have some mighty big shoes to fill. 1982’s “Tron” had a cutting-edge score composed by Wendy Carlos, who had also composed the score to Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” and “A Clockwork Orange.”

Thomas Bangalter Says He’s “Relieved” Daft Punk Broke Up
Image
If we’d have to guess which two questions Daft Punk have probably been asked the most, we’d go with: “Why did you break up?” followed by “Why the robot helmets?” The French house duo, who called it called it quits in February 2021, are famously rarely interviewed, but Thomas Bangalter offered a little insight to the inner workings of Daft Punk — and being “relieved” that the era is over — on a recent episode of BBC’s The First Time with Matt Everett podcast.

Bangalter previously gave a kind of vague explanation for why Daft Punk broke up, saying that “the last thing I would want to be, in the world we live in, in 2023, is a robot.” Speaking with host Everett, he dug deeper into his and bandmate Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s relationship with their art.

“There’s a connection between fiction and reality, and everything we did was...

Daft Punk Calls It Quits After 28 Years
Image
Pioneering electronic duo Daft Punk have decided to call it a day. The French group's publicist has confirmed that they have decided to retire. To announce their retirement, the group released a video titled "Epilogue," which is an excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo started Daft Punk in 1993, and went to great lengths to keep their personal lives out of the way. They adopted ornate helmets and gloves to assume robot personas, later creating a rabid following and influencing the worlds of electronic and dance music.

In the "Epilogue" video, the Daft Punk members are out in the desert, wearing their iconic helmets, when one of them removes their jacket to reveal an energy pack. The first robot presses a button on the pack and walks away as the other one explodes. The camera cuts to a sunset, while Daft Punk's "Touch" is played in the background.

Daft Punk Goes Out With A Bang: Edm Duo Breaks Up In Video Message
Image
Daft Punk, the masked and highly influential Edm duo, has signaled its retirement in an announcement as enigmatic as the rest of the pair’s three-decade career.

In a stark, new eight-minute video called “Epilogue,” posted today (watch it above), Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, maintaining their robot/racing personas, walk toward one another through a purple-sky desert. After standing helmet-to-helmet for a bit, one pushes a button on the other’s power pack, setting off a countdown alarm. They separate and prepare for self-destruction. The dates “1993-2021” then appear.

Publicist Kathryn Frazier has confirmed the split but provided no details.

The video ends with the song “Touch” from Daft Punk’s Grammy-winning 2013 album Random Access Memories.

Daft Punk’s hits include 2013’s “Get Lucky,” as well as “Da Funk” and “Robot Rock.” The duo recorded the the Tron: Legacy soundtrack album in 2010.

Kanye West: 40 Years of Fire -- The Ultimate Birthday Playlist!
Kim Kardashian
Wake up, Mr. West. It's your birthday!

On "No More Parties in L.A." off The Life of Pablo, Kanye West describes himself as "a 38-year-old 8-year-old," which is maybe a perfect summation of the qualities that have made the 40-year-old rapper such an enigma: a larger-than-life icon who has cultivated a persona that draws as much infamy as it does reverence, with a head-spinning number of acclaimed tracks to show for it.

Watch: Inside Kanye West's 40th Birthday in Bahamas With Kim Kardashian and Their Kids: 'No Work or Social Media'

Somehow, as Kanye has gotten older, his almost youthful sense for defiance and creativity have created work that has only gotten more experimental, more groundbreaking, and with each new album, inspired a new crop of artists of hip hop and of music in general.

The roster of rappers that 'Ye has inspired is truly staggering. Chance the Rapper has rhapsodized about the transformative...

Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, and Daft Punk in Tron : L'Héritage (2010)
Over the past 20 years, every time musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, collectively known as Daft Punk, have appeared in public, they have covered their faces with elaborate masks. Later this year, these musicians will finally be unmasked in a new documentary Daft Punk Unchained, with the first trailer from BBC Worldwide teasing this long-awaited unmasking. The trailer also features musicians such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, who discuss the influence Daft Punk has had on the music industry.

Daft Punk Unchained is the first ever documentary film on the most secretive duo in the world. The epic story of two uncompromising artists. With the participation of their closest collaborators and friends from Pharrell Williams to Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto and Pete Tong.

Daft Punk tease taking off their helmets in a trailer for their new movie
Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, and Daft Punk in Tron : L'Héritage (2010)
Daft Punk without their helmets is an odd sight - it's almost a surprise they aren't actually robots under there.

And it looks like the duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, will be taking off the headgear in a new documentary.

Daft Punk Unchained looks at the story of music's most secretive duo, and features many of their star collaborators.

Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto and Pete Tong will all contribute to the film.

It of course won't be the first time that the duo have been seen unmasked - they were recently spotted without their signature headgear in La.

The pair have said their costumes are not a gimmick, explaining they stem from their own desire for "sci-fi glam" and desire to create fictional personas.

Homem-Christo said: "We're not performers, we're not models - it would not...

Eden: 'There was no film that took club culture seriously'
Mia Hansen-Løve’s nightlife drama celebrates the euphoria of dance music but doesn’t shy away from showing what happens when the party’s over

The central scene in Mia Hansen-Løve’s Eden doesn’t last very long. It takes place during a heady party in the home of Thomas Bangalter’s parents. We are in the sitting room of the packed apartment, watching Bangalter and his partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo preparing to play music as Daft Punk for the first time. We hear the pair whisper to each other, watch them drum their fingers nervously, adjust the levels on the mixer again and again. Then, finally, the needle is placed on a platter of vinyl. The opening bars of Da Funk blast out, a song that would go on to be played countless times across the world. This small party goes wild but, as the track plays, the camera pulls away.

Daft Punk To Return To House With Next Album
Few names in Edm carry the kind of weight that Daft Punk does. The French duo – which consists of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter – made a lasting mark on the world of dance music with 1997’s Homework, but instead of fading into obscurity like so many of the genre’s other elder statesmen, their influence has endured through their last full-length effort, Get Lucky. For this reason, it’s no wonder that the Edm community is rejoicing over murmurs that they’ve got a new album in the works.

And speaking of elder statesmen, the information comes from none other than Paul Johnson – a proper Chicago house legend in his own right whose track “Hear The Music” inspired Daft Punk to create house music in the first place. As such, it’s quite fitting that according to Johnson, the upcoming album will mark the duo’s return to house.

Daft Punk’s Faces Unveiled in Sculpture, Sort Of
Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, and Daft Punk in Tron : L'Héritage (2010)
As part of an exhibition about music producers, artist Xavier Veilhan (kind of) unmasked Daft Punk in the form of a birch plywood sculpture. "The funny thing is I didn't even ask them," Veilhan told Vice's Creators Project. "I proposed to introduce them as producers, not as musicians. ... They proposed to me: 'Okay, we should make the sculpture the non-existing image of us. So if somebody wants to see how we are like in real [life] they'll have to look at the sculpture.'" They still have sunglasses on in the piece, so it's like saying Dick Grayson is obviously Robin sans eye mask. But, hey, still a coup.Anyway, here are Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, a.k.a. the New Age Starsky & Hutch with reversed hairdos: Veilhan's exhibition, titled "Music," opens Thursday at New York's Galerie Perrotin and runs through April 11.

Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel writes music for Mike Tyson film
Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo has written new music for an upcoming Algerian film.

Thriller Gates of the Sun is directed by French filmmaker Jean-Marc Minéo, and features Mike Tyson among its cast.

De Homem-Christo has written music along with Eric Chedeville, with whom he co-founded the record label Crydamoure.

The pair also released several tracks in the late 1990s and early 2000s under the name Le Knight Club.

Chedeville told French culture magazine Les Inrocks: "Guy-Man has made music in this film. Initially it had to be for a fight scene with Mike Tyson, but now it's the final scene inside a club.

"It should not exceed two minutes, I think. At least 80% of the soundtrack was made by the two composers Matteodo Patrick and Jean-Jacques Ipino."

He added: "And the piece will not be signed 'Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo' but 'Knight Club', the nickname...

Eden (2014)
Why Daft Punk Licensed Songs for $3,700 to Indie Drama 'Eden'
Eden (2014)
There’s a moment early in Eden when a teenage Thomas Bangalter (played by Vincent Lacoste) and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (played by Arnaud Azoulay), the music duo better known as Daft Punk, play their soon-to-be hit “Da Funk” for the first time while DJ’ing a party at their parents’ house. The young partygoers, many of whom would go on to be key players in the ‘90s house music scene known as “French Touch," are instantly transfixed by the song. The film's protagonist, Paul (Félix de Givry), a fellow DJ, says in astonishment, “It’s modern disco”. Eden co-writer Sven

Gone Girl

David Fincher, USA, 2014, Dcp, 150m

David Fincher’s film version of Gillian Flynn’s phenomenally successful best seller (adapted by the author) is one wild cinematic ride, a perfectly cast and intensely compressed portrait of a recession-era marriage contained within a devastating depiction of celebrity/media culture, shifting gears as smoothly as a Maserati 250F. Ben Affleck is Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on the day of their fifth anniversary. Neil Patrick Harris is Amy’s old boyfriend Desi, Carrie Coon (who played Honey in Tracy Letts’s acclaimed production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) is Nick’s sister Margo, Kim Dickens (Treme, Friday Night Lights) is Detective Rhonda Boney, and Tyler Perry is Nick’s superstar lawyer Tanner Bolt. At once a grand panoramic vision of middle America, a uniquely disturbing exploration of the fault lines in a marriage,...

BBC Will Produce A Daft Punk Documentary
Variety is reporting that BBC Worldwide Production France is looking to produce a one-hour long documentary on iconic music duo Daft Punk. After releasing their fourth studio album, titled Random Access Memories, last May to huge success and praise, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter (the two musicians who make up the group) are hotter than ever.

The plan is to air the doc through French TV channel Canal Plus next year, with director Hervé Martin Delpierre on board to helm. Charting the group’s rise to fame through the 90s and right up until the present day, the documentary will explore how Daft Punk changed dance music forever and became as influential and iconic as they are today.

With twelve million albums sold worldwide and six Grammy Awards under their belt, it’s hard to deny the massive influence that the duo has had on the dance/Edm scene.
