Exclusive: Pixel United, a gaming firm led by former Discovery, Miramax and Fox exec Mike Lang, is developing a second season of Raid: Call of the Arbiter, an animated series based on a well-established mobile game.

Mobile game Raid: Shadow Legends from Plarium, a Pixel United studio, spawned an animated series last spring. The series debuted on YouTube in May and recently wrapped its first season with 20 million views. Episodes were released weekly, helping stimulate viewer demand and also drive more interest in the game.

As it preps the second season, Pixel United plans to consider extensions like a longer-form digital series or possibly a film adaptation.

“Our enthusiastic, loyal Raid players inspired our team to create this series in the first place, and the overwhelmingly positive response on YouTube has shown us we must create even more content outside of the game,” Lang said in a statement. “We understand...

HBO has revealed a full-length trailer for a movie called Brexit, also known as Brexit: The Uncivil War, which is actually a made-for-tv film but we can't help feature it anyway. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this as Dominic Cummings, the now infamous political strategist who utilized controversial campaigning and social media tactics to successfully (unfortunately) spearhead the "Vote Leave" campaign. For those from America, Cummings seems to be the Steve Bannon of the UK, an outsider who riled up the public to make a rash decision that is still being debated. The cast includes John Heffernan, Rory Kinnear, Liz White, Richard Goulding, Paul Ryan, Oliver Maltman, Nicholas Day, and Lee Boardman. Made by the director of the Emmy-nominated "USS Callister" episode of "Black Mirror". This looks damn good; I dig the freshness of the look and feel, and that it shows all his dirty tricks.

Skyfall star Rory Kinnear and The Crown’s John Heffernan have joined Benedict Cumberbatch-fronted drama Brexit (w/t) as the first image of the Sherlock star, without his long locks, has been unveiled.

Filming has begun on the two-hour drama special, produced by Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell’s House Productions for Channel 4.

Kinnear, who has also starred in The Imitation Game and Black Mirror stars as Craig Oliver, Prime Minister David Cameron’s Director of Communications, who was brought in to oversee the Remain campaign’s communications strategy, while Heffernan, who played John Grigg, 2nd Baron Altrincham in Netflix’s royal drama, stars as Matthew Elliott, political lobbyist and Chief Executive of Vote Leave.

They join Cumberbatch, who stars as Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and Campaign Director of Vote Leave.

Elsewhere, Call The Midwife star Liz White plays Mary Wakefield, a journalist and Dominic Cummings’ wife...

Santa Claus is coming to town and these days, it appears that he’s got a fearsome friend in tow. This seemingly new sidekick is in the form of a shaggy pelted devil character that people who enjoy folklore or studying Christmas traditions will recognize as Krampus. In less than two weeks, I’ve seen two popular shows do a Krampus episode. I have to say that I’m kind of enjoying this renewal of a mostly forgotten component of the Christmas season.

So, who is Krampus?

He’s most often depicted as a horned creature with the upper torso and head of a man, long wickedly pointed horns, and the shaggy lower half of a goat, complete with cloven hooves. Often his skin is incredibly dark, usually a midnight black, and he has a very long scarlet tongue which seems to be extended and lolling almost constantly. Originally, Krampus was part of pagan traditions.

Fifteen years ago the British director Bernard Rose made a deeply disappointing version of Anna Karenina in Russia. As if to make up for this he's spent much of this century in the States making low-budget movies transposing shorter Tolstoy works to present-day California. The first was ivans xtc, an acrid tale of Hollywood based on The Death of Ivan Ilyich, the second part of The Kreutzer Sonata that centres on a pathologically jealous Beverly Hills philanthropist suspecting his wife of adultery. The third is Boxing Day, a version of Master and Man, the story of Vasily, a pompous, penny-pinching smalltown landowner, who sets out right after the December St Nicholas Day festival to buy some cut-price timber from a neighbouring landowner, taking with him Nikita, a heavy-drinking peasant with a troubled marriage. They get lost in a snowstorm and Vasily discovers how much less significant social hierarchies and money are compared to human relationships.

Rammstein, Hasselhoff, Blutwurst. The Germans have worshiped some strange things in their day, but perhaps none so disturbing as Krampus.

In case you are unfamiliar with Krampus here’s a little background: He’s basically St. Nick’s evil cousin who sets about the earth bestowing punishment on all the bad children. Punishment depends on the lore, but often involves drowning or snacking on the offending tyke.

This cautionary character dates back to pre-Christian tradition but the more modern version taken from Germanic folklore depicts a man with hooves, long pointy tongue and the horns of a goat. The night before the St. Nicholas day is Krampus’ time to shine and today many Germans and Austrians look to their pagan roots, put on some shaggy pants, a pair of horns and take to the streets to light fire and prance around.

Honestly, not too much different than a Rammstein show.
