Angelina Jolie is one of the most iconic actresses in the film industry, and she has starred in some extremely entertaining films in her three-decade-long career, but she also starred in some duds along the way. After making her screen debut as a child in the 1982 film Lookin’ to Get Out, Jolie has starred in at least 55 films, and some of them are among the most popular, like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Salt, but there were also some embarrassing films like The Tourist or the Lara Croft sequel. So, we decided to compile a list of her 5 worst films that hold embarrassingly low critic ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

5. The Tourist (Rent on Prime Video) Credit – Columbia Pictures

The Tourist is a romantic thriller film directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Christopher McQuarrie and Julian Fellowes.

Stars: Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Jane Kaczmarek, George Martin, David Clennon, Dianne Wiest, Frances Conroy | Written by Michael Cristofer | Directed by Ulu Grosbard

Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are wonderful Hollywood actors who, together, have won 5 Academy Awards: 2 for De Niro and 3 for Streep. They have acted on screen together several times in their careers. Including their first on-screen film, 1979’s The Deer Hunter, followed by Marvin’s Room (1996) and The Good House (2013).

In between these films, in 1984, right at the height of De Niro’s popularity, he was cast alongside the lovely Streep for a romantic drama entitled Falling in Love. Now this film just celebrated its 40th anniversary. So, what better time for a Blu-ray debut?

Sometimes magic is the only thing that’s real. Falling in Love is a shining example of the magic that’s created when two of Hollywood’s biggest and...

Kathy Bates At 76 Earns Two SAG Nominations For ‘Matlock’ & ‘The Great Lillian Hall’
Image
Maybe Kathy Bates won’t have to rip up her next acceptance speech.

Bates just earned two more SAG nominations for the CBS freshman series Matlock and the Max film The Great Lillian Hall — her ninth and 10th nomination of her career. She won two Sags in 1997 and 1999 for The Late Shift and Primary Colors, respectively. She’s already an Oscar winner for Misery and a two-time Emmy winner for American Horror Story and Two and A Half Men.

Bates received a 2025 Golden Globe nomination for playing Madeline Matlock in the clever update of the old ’80s series that starred Andy Griffith. Video of the 76-year-old actress went viral on Sunday after she was filmed ripping up her acceptance speech after Shōgun’s Anna Sawai took the Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series.

Bates was the only actress to receive a SAG nomination for a drama on broadcast TV.

The Best Angelina Jolie Movie, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Angelina Jolie is one of the most celebrated actors of her generation, and one of Hollywood's most notable humanitarians. She's done vitally important work on behalf of refugees for the United Nations, and has also taken up for women's rights in the third world. She's an extraordinary person, but it all started with acting -- and overcoming the potential stigma of being what the kids nowadays call a "nepo-baby."

Yes, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Her father was a pivotal actor in the New Hollywood movement of the 1960s and '70s, starring in such trailblazing films as "Midnight Cowboy," "Deliverance," and "Coming Home" (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor). Jolie got her first film role alongside her father in Hal Ashby's ill-fated comedy "Lookin' to Get Out" in 1982, but didn't return to movies until 1993 as the lead...

10 Infuriating Decisions That Characters Made In Some Of The Biggest TV Shows
Image
TV shows have a way of pulling viewers into the lives of their characters, often taking us on emotional rollercoasters. Following an interesting storyline can easily render anyone emotionally attached to the outcomes on screen, resulting in them getting annoyed when a character makes the most infuriating decision possible. Frustrating decisions are, unfortunately, a hallmark of TV storytelling, whether in popular, long-running shows or smaller, niche series. From Sex and the City's characters' regular exploits to The Sopranos' divisive ending, some of the most iconic titles on TV have offered some of the most baffling character choices. The trend cuts across every genre on television, ensuring no one is safe from emotional twists — whether you're enjoying a comedy, romance, or high-stakes drama.

10 Spicy Romance Movies That Aren't Cringe
Image
When you think of romance films, the first thing that pops to mind is clichd stories, predictable narratives of 'will-they-won't-they,' and happy endings with couples sailing off into their new lives. While some of great romance movies have been released in 2024 and some are exceptionally well-executed, many other aspects of this genre often go overlooked. Films that push the boundaries of what it means to be in love, gritty, action storylines, or spicy romantic films that take a sinister turn are anything but the normal tropes.

Darker, more intense romance films such as the thrilling, action-packed ride of Quentin Tarantino-written True Romance or the erotic roleplay and power dynamic relationship of Secretary often produce some of the best romance films of all time. Films that don't fully turn their backs on every clich but twist, elevate, and put their own unique spin on them. Combined with unique narratives and intensely passionate relationships,...

In Praise of the Emmys’ Poor TV Movie Category
Image
Emmy voters are now halfway through final balloting for this year’s awards, making decisions about which drama and comedy series, limited series, talk series, variety series and specials, structured and unstructured reality programs, reality competition shows, animated programs, documentary and nonfiction programs and game shows they like best.

And, oh yeah, they’re also picking their favorite TV movies, although they probably won’t have to think too long or too hard about what seems to have become the Emmys’ least consequential category.

It wasn’t always like that. The Outstanding TV Movie category has produced some notable television, including “Death of a Salesman” with Lee J. Cobb, the ultimate tearjerker “Brian’s Song,” the shocking “Special Bulletin”and 21st century standouts “The Gathering Storm,” “Recount,” “Grey Gardens,” “Behind the Candelabra” and even last year’s winner, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”

Over the years, the category has often been...

Jessica Lange is coming for that Emmy record with ‘The Great Lillian Hall’
Image
“The Great Lillian Hall” reunites three “American Horror Story” actresses to deliver a tour de force in TV movies. Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Lily Rabe all star in this HBO TV Movie, directed by Michael Cristofer, that follows the careers of fictional Broadway actress Lillian Hall.

It’s Lange who plays Lillian and the veteran actress has turned in another masterclass in acting. She has always been a commanding screen presence and that doesn’t change here as she depicts a legendary actress as a triumph on stage but a nervous wreck in rehearsals while she battles with early dementia. It’s always a treat watching icons play icons (Lange did this again in “Feud: Bette and Joan”) and while Lillian is fictional, the impact is no less felt. Critics agree, this could be Lange’s greatest performance yet.

Caryn James (The Hollywood Reporter) observed: “Jessica Lange is perfection...

Mac Quayle (‘The Great Lillian Hall’ composer) on crafting a score ‘that would sound like there was something not quite right with it’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
(This Interview Contains Spoilers About The HBO Film)

For Mac Quayle, composing the score for the HBO film project “The Great Lillian Hall” proved something of a departure from his most recent projects, which have included nine seasons of the FX anthology “American Horror Story,” the Fox/ABC procedural “9-1-1” and the Netflix drama “Leave the World Behind.” “Lillian Hall” tells the story of a legendary Broadway star (Jessica Lange) fearfully facing the ticking clock of time while doggedly working to defy it following a dementia diagnosis. In talking to director Michael Cristofer about the music, “we recognized this is an intimate story about Lillian Hall and this sudden dementia that she’s experiencing,” Quayle recalls. “We thought that (when) it needed some music that it shouldn’t be too big, it needed to have a little more intimate sound. So we chose as our palette nine strings and piano,...

‘The Great Lillian Hall’ Review: Jessica Lange Is Grand as a Legendary Stage Actress Confronting Dementia
Image
In “The Great Lillian Hall,” Jessica Lange plays a veteran theater actress — a legend of the Broadway stage — who is always putting on airs, reciting bits from her favorite roles, and carrying on in the tradition of fabled actresses who get known for playing characters like Blanche DuBois because they’ve actually got a lot of Blanche in them. (They believe their own illusions.) Yet just because Lillian Hall is a flamboyant grand dame doesn’t mean that she’s not showing you who she is. Lange, a beauty at 75, has a face that has only grown more expressive with the years. In “The Great Lillian Hall,” that face is a map of emotion we read. Even when Lillian is being deceptive (even when she’s deceiving herself), the majesty of her feelings shines through.

There’s a moving scene in which she’s seated on a porch with her adult daughter,...

‘The Great Lillian Hall’ Review: Jessica Lange Is a Diva Battling Memory Loss as Broadway’s Lights Dim Around Her
Image
Depending on how Russian your sense of humor is, Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard” could be classified as either the darkest of comedies or a tragedy that sometimes manages to be mildly humorous. The play follows a past-their-prime family of Russian aristocrats who are forced to sell their eponymous orchard, which they spent most of their lives ignoring and neglecting. But once it’s time to actually part ways, they become overwhelmed by morose nostalgia as they struggle to let go of something that they assumed would always be there. It’s both a brilliant satire of wealth-induced decadence and a somber exploration of how humans struggle to say goodbye at the ends of their eras.

So it’s fitting that, whether she knows it or not, Lillian Hall’s (Jessica Lange) upcoming turn as Madame Lyubov Andreievna Ranevskaya in “The Cherry Orchard” will be her final performance. Michael Cristofer...

‘The Great Lillian Hall’ Review: Jessica Lange Is Incandescent As Legendary Stage Actress Facing Dementia
Image
I am a sucker for movies about Broadway and those who spend their lives in the theatre. Of course the crown jewel of the genre is the Oscar-winning All About Eve, but there are so many others including 1933’s Morning Glory which won a young Katherine Hepburn her first Academy Award, as well as its rarely seen remake, 1958’s underrated Stage Struck. Ginger Rogers did a good one, too: Forever Female. The list goes on and on and now includes a stellar new entry, The Great Lillian Hall which gives the great Jessica Lange a challenging role worth her talents.

Premiering on HBO May 31, just barely under the wire for Emmy consideration, Lange’s performance as a stage legend facing dementia should send chills down the spine of any other contenders for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie this season. This veteran star simply knocks it out of the park.

‘The Great Lillian Hall’ Review: Jessica Lange Is Superb as an Actress With Early Dementia in a Lovely Valentine to Theater
Image
Jessica Lange is perfection as the fictional actress Lillian Hall, known for decades as a revered star of the theater. During rehearsals for her starring role in The Cherry Orchard, she is having unusual difficulty memorizing her lines, and before long learns that the cause is early dementia. Despite that ominous theme, The Great Lillian Hall is a lovely tribute to life in the theater, with all its personal compromises, and a showcase for Lange, who deftly shows the character as a vulnerable woman and also displays the distinct style of Lillian the bravura actress.

Lillian is such a star that she is the key to the box office in the Broadway revival of Chekhov. The film’s trajectory takes her through rehearsals, and in and out of her personal life as she grapples with her diagnosis, in a plot driven by the question of whether she’ll make it to opening night.

‘The Great Lillian Hall’ Trailer: Jessica Lange Grapples with a Stage Star’s Legacy and Mortality

Jessica Lange may have hinted at her own retirement for years, but the legendary actress is actually playing it out onscreen with her latest film “The Great Lillian Hall.”

Lange stars as the titular (fictional) iconic stage actress who grapples with her own legacy amid a dementia diagnosis. Her daughter (Lily Rabe) struggles with separating her mother Lillian from her Broadway fame, while Kathy Bates, Jesse Williams, and Pierce Brosnan round out the cast.

Fallout’s Biggest Guest Stars and Cameos: From Knight Titus to Honcho
Image
This article contains casting spoilers for all eight episodes of Fallout.

The Fallout gaming franchise presents a big storytelling universe to play in. And that’s exactly what drew showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner to the Prime Video TV adaptation in the first place.

“It’s more creatively interesting to be able to build our own story in the world that they’ve carved out for us,” Wagner told Den of Geek. “That’s historically been the trajectory of Fallout. It’s traded hands many times, with different creative teams taking it over. It’s kept it fresh, kept it relevant. We chose to just vainly look at this as our Fallout.”

Of course, a big storytelling universe also requires a big cast to fill it up. Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t wanting for compelling lead characters thanks to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul...

The 12 Best Mr. Robot Episodes, Ranked
Image
The USA Network hacking thriller "Mr. Robot" is one of the best and most underrated dramas of the past decade. Initially, "Mr. Robot" seemed like a risky project. While writer-director Sam Esmail established his merits as a creator with his highly underrated feature film directorial debut, "Comet," he had yet to prove himself as the showrunner of a complex narrative series. Rami Malek was rising star thanks to his role on HBO's "The Pacific," but the character of Elliot Alderson was very different from anything that he had done before.

All of these concerns evaporated after the first season reached its conclusion. With its stylistic direction, relevant social themes, electrifying soundtrack, and shocking twists, "Mr. Robot" was unlike anything else on television. It seems closer to an arthouse film than anything. The show contains allusions to such classics as "Blade Runner," "The Matrix," "Pi," and "Taxi Driver." "Mr. Robot" continued...

‘The Last Movie Stars’: Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward together on film
Image
HBO’s “The Last Movie Stars,” Ethan Hawkes’ exceptional six-part series on Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, works on so many levels. For baby boomers who grew up watching the Oscar-winning couple, the series is a strong emotional tug at the heartstrings. For actors and those who love acting, it’s a primer on the craft. For those who love and admire the fact they remained married for 50 years, it’s a perceptive depiction of the highs, lows and struggles of a marriage. And by peeling away the legend of their union, you end up admiring and loving Newman and Woodward more than ever. And be prepared to blubber several times in the final episode.

The couple collaborated on 16 movies and three plays. And in honor of “The Last Movie Stars,” here’s a look at several of those projects.

The two fell in love while working on William Inge’s 1953 Pulitzer-Prize-winning romantic drama ‘Picnic.

‘The Night Clerk’: Tye Sheridan and Ana de Armas Can’t Save This Inert Noir [Review]
Angelina Jolie
Coming off a 19-year directing hiatus, after the much-maligned Angelina Jolie thriller “Original Sin,” writer/director Michael Cristofer’s newest film, “The Night Clerk,” is the type of amateurish inert sexual thriller that will, fortunately or not, end up forgotten in a pile of VOD releases. One that wastes a talented cast, including Ana de Armas, who, with “Knives Out” and the upcoming “No Time to Die,” will hopefully be moving out of these lazily typecast films sometime soon.

Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
The Night Clerk Review: Autism Thriller Doesn't Live Up to Its Promise
Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
The Night Clerk is an indie thriller that never lives up to its promise. The film's Hitchcockian themes are established early on. A socially awkward voyeur with Aspberger's syndrome uses his job at a hotel to spy on guests. What follows next is murder, mystery, a femme fatale, and an earnest detective hot on the trail. Sounds juicy right? The Night Clerk is initially compelling, but loses steam considerably as the narrative wanes. A good lead performance can't overcome a weak climax.

Tye Sheridan stars as Bart Bromley, an autistic young man who works the overnight shift at a local hotel. Bart lives with his mother (Helen Hunt), but spends all of his spare time locked away in their home's basement. Bart has installed hidden cameras in a hotel room. He records the guests, then uses the videos to practice social interaction. Bart can't look people in the eye. His shoulders droop.

Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
‘The Night Clerk’: Film Review
Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
In “The Night Clerk,” Tye Sheridan and a very busy Ana de Armas star as a hotel clerk with Asperger’s and the solicitous beauty who shows up after a murder. The chemistry between Sheridan and de Armas is involving. The casting of Helen Hunt as a enabling mother and John Leguizamo as a police detective holds promise. And some of the choices by writer-director Michael Cristofer and cinematographer Noah Greenberg intrigue. But the thriller — in theaters, on demand and available via digital HD on Feb. 21 — never tips into must-catch territory.

Even before the death of a woman checked into the hotel, things get very strange very quickly. Bart (Sheridan) spies on the guests, sometimes on his laptop during the nighttime hours at the suites-style hotel. More often, as he sits in his basement-level apartment surveying an array of monitors that capture different angles on the mundane actions of travelers:...

Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
“The Night Clerk” Makes Menial Use Of Ana De Armas And Tye Sheridan
Ana de Armas and Tye Sheridan in The Night Clerk (2020)
High art and low art is at war with itself in The Night Clerk, a thriller with aims to be something more. At times, this independent film offers up an intriguing look at an unusual protagonist. At other points, however, it falls victim to cheesy B movie tropes, torpedoing its effectiveness. A surprisingly stacked cast is underwhelming, largely due to the material, preventing them from elevating things much. For every moment that compels, at least one other confounds. This flick has the kernel of something interesting within it, but sadly it’s too far concealed within mediocrity to be worthy of a recommendation. Opening this week, it’s a misfire, all in all. The film is a thriller with some light character study elements thrown in. Bart Bromley (Tye Sheridan) is a night clerk at a hotel chain. Highly intelligent but on the autism spectrum, Bart spends his days observing people,...

Spy Hard: Cristofer Returns with Faulty Noir

It’s been nearly twenty years since Pulitzer Prize winning scribe Michael Cristofer has developed a theatrical feature, last on hand with 2001’s steamy erotic thriller Original Sin, which featured Antonio Banderas and re-teamed the director with his Gia (1998) star, Angelina Jolie. He’s back with The Night Clerk, an original treatment which makes an unwieldy attempt at mining the grey zone of culpability with a lead protagonist who suffers from Asperger’s but has all the problematic voyeuristic tendencies of a Hitchcockian hero in peril.…...

Michael Cristofer in Péché originel (2001)
The Night Clerk Review: Tye Sheridan & Ana de Armas Get Caught Up in a Murder Mystery
Michael Cristofer in Péché originel (2001)
There’s a scene in Michael Cristofer’s The Night Clerk where lead character Bart Bromley (Tye Sheridan) misreads a situation and kisses a woman. His Asperger’s kicks into overdrive, merging a contrite apology with verbal self-flagellation before promising to never do anything so misguided and potentially damaging again. Impulse conquered conditioning for a split second and he’s ready to retreat so far within himself that he’ll never go out in public again thanks to shame—something that wouldn’t be too difficult since he’s already exiled himself to his mother’s basement and only leaves when it’s time to work his evening shift at the local hotel. It’s a very human reaction dialed to eleven and yet seemingly out of character considering he also records people without permission inside their rooms.

Cristofer says he got the idea for this film after thinking about the impact of new,...
