Batman fans, and even casual movie-goers have surely fantasized about having their own Batmobile. Which live-action Batmobile you prefer will likely come down to the era in which you grew up (I will one day achieve my childhood dream of building my own version of the Tim Burton-era Batmobile). But if you happened to have come of age during the time when Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy was dominating the box office, you're likely more inclined towards the beast of a Batmobile known as the Tumbler. If so, and if you happen to have a few million dollars laying around, you can now buy a replica of that iconic screen vehicle from none other than Wayne Enterprises itself.
In 1989, Tim Burton and Warner Bros. unveiled "Batman" and as well as inducing a nationwide "Bat-mania" and re-establishing the character as a brooding vigilante, the film redefined the Batmobile in the public consciousness.

Christopher Nolan had a unique vision when he took up Christian Bale’s Batman movies. The Dark Knight went on to become a classic in his filmography, a huge thanks to the memorable performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker. When his casting was first announced, Ledger’s casting faced widespread criticism, with many calling it a poor choice.
However, not only did he bring a remarkable performance to the screen, but he was also involved in some of the behind-the-scenes duties. He directed some disconcerting moments in the film with the permission of Nolan, who was impressed with the actor’s vision and allowed the scenes in his film.

Hollywood visual effects pioneer Colin Chilvers, who earned a Special Achievement Academy Award in 1979 for making Christopher Reeves as Superman fly, has died. He was 79.
Chilvers died Tuesday in Fort Erie, Ontario, according to his nephew, Chris Corbould, whose own VFX credits include Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and James Bond franchise movies like No Time to Die and Spectre.
“I am forever indebted to Colin as he instigated the start of my own career in special effects when he invited me onto the set of Tommy in 1974 when I was 16 years old and inspired me to make a career in the film industry,” Corbould told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ introduces the Marvel villain Knull to the big screen, but he won’t be the primary antagonist in this final installment. ‘One movie can’t fully capture Knull,’ director and co-writer Kelly Marcel told IGN via email.
While this might be the last of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock films (more on that later), fans should expect this sequel to lay the groundwork for Knull’s future appearances. ‘Knull has always been part of our plan, but our focus had to be on Venom and Eddie’s journey first. This is just the beginning for Knull,’ Marcel explained.
Without revealing too much, Marcel teased, ‘Part of the excitement is not knowing where the story will go next. We know how crucial Knull is to the fans, and just like we took time to build Venom, we’re doing the same for him. The King in Black...

2005’s Batman Begins introduced a version of the Gotham superhero fans still remember as one of the very best, if not the best. Starring the utterly-talented Christian Bale, it delved into the origin story of Batman and eventually pitted him against the likes of Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul.

Both very regular occurrences in the Batman narrative in the comics, Christopher Nolan had a unique take on the character which was depicted perfectly by Cillian Murphy. However, Nolan initially was adamant on making a change to the former, one which would not have been well-met by fans, who have grown used to The Scarecrow and his iconic mask.
Nolan did not want his version of the character to even have a mask, and ended up rejecting quite a few before sticking to the one which made it to the film.

When it comes to action-packed stunts as well as explosive special effects, no one dares to match James Bond. The iconic British spy has been delighting viewers for over fifty years with his death-defying deeds and heart-pounding adventures.
Similarly, in the 2015 film Spectre, Daniel Craig’s portrayal of James Bond ascended to new heights with an enormous explosion that went on to earn the Guinness World Record for Largest Film Stunt Explosion. This explosion, which took place in the Moroccan desert, was a breathtaking spectacle that had viewers on the brink of their seats.

Christopher Nolan has made a career for himself for his unconventional narrative structures of storytelling. His 11 films have ranged from psychological thrillers to science fiction epics to “The Dark Knight” trilogy, and have garnered a total of 36 Academy Award nominations, five of which for Nolan individually. With his latest directed epic “Oppenheimer” breaking box office records and gathering massive awards buzz since its release on July 21 by Universal Pictures, let’s break down Nolan’s five Oscar nominations for three of his movies.
Nolan’s first recognition at the Oscars came for his second feature “Memento,” based on his brother Jonathan Nolan’s short story “Memento Mori,” both released in 2001. The psychological mystery thriller written and directed by Nolan stars Guy Pearce as a man with anterograde amnesia and short-term memory loss as he tries to solve the murder of his wife. Two years ago, siblings Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell shared in four Grammy wins for the album “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” (Album of the Year; Best Pop Vocal Album) and its single “Bad Guy” (Record of the Year; Song of the Year). Now, they have concurrently earned their first Oscar nominations for co-writing the song “No Time to Die” for the James Bond film of the same name. If they prevail later this month, they will become the fourth brother-sister pair to both be honored by the academy and the first to win for the same film.

It has been 42 years since the visual effects craftspeople behind James Bond’s death-defying stunts and action sequences have received Academy Awards recognition. But that changed this year with “No Time To Die,” the blockbuster finale of star Daniel Craig’s tenure as 007. The Cary Jojo Fukunaga film received three total nominations at the 2022 Oscars, including Best Song for Billie Eilish, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects for Mark Bakowski, Chris Corbould, Jonathan Fawkner, Joel Green, and Charlie Noble.
“The collaboration has been the biggest thing,” Corbould said in a special interview with Craig and stuntman Lee Morrison about working on the franchise. Corbould, an Oscar winner for “Inception,” is a six-time nominee whose history with Bond dates all the way back to 1977’s “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Corbould also worked on “Moonraker,” the last Bond movie nominated for Best Visual Effects.

“One of the great things about this film for me was how much was achieved practically, in camera,” explains “No Time to Die” visual effects supervisor Charlie Noble. While Noble handled the digital realm, the man responsible for those stunning practical effects is production special effects supervisor, Chris Corbould. These two artists were vital in bringing James Bond’s intense action sequences to life, though both of them will be the first to tell you: no matter how much adrenaline or explosions are pumped into a scene, it’s all about emotion. Continuing to look closely at the movies in the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars, we come to “No Time to Die.” On paper, the latest James Bond movie and the last starring Daniel Craig may feel like the odd man out when it comes to this year’s race. Many wouldn’t consider it a “visual effects movie,” per sé, but in fact visual effects were necessary in making all of Bond’s physics-defying stunts feel grounded and real, as if they were all done at the fantastic locations where the movies takes place.

Michael Bay is calling “bullshit” on the James Bond franchise for holding the Guinness World Record for largest film stunt explosion. It was the 007 tentpole “Spectre” that set the record with one set explosion that had “a total yield of 68.47 tonnes of TNT equivalent.” Not so fast, Bay recently told Empire magazine. According to the mayhem-loving action director, his historical war epic “Pearl Harbor” has an even bigger explosion during the central attack sequence.
“[Producer] Jerry Bruckheimer showed Ridley Scott the movie,” Bay said. “And the quote [from Scott] was, ‘Fuck me.’ No one knows how hard that is. We had so much big stuff out there. Real boats, 20 real planes. We had 350 events going off. Three months of rigging on seven boats, stopping a freeway that’s three miles away.”
Bay added, “James Bond tried to take the ‘largest explosion in the world.’ Bullshit. Ours is.”

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” shattered the pandemic box office at the end of December, but also sent fans into the social-media orbit with the return of villains from previous Spider-Man movies including Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Sandman. Working behind the scenes to bring those villains back to life was VFX supervisor Kelly Port.
“While technology had significantly advanced, the villains stayed the same,” says Port of the distinct looks they had to revive. “A lot of the digital assets from the [Sam] Raimi and [Marc] Webb films no longer exist, so those we had to get going from scratch.”
With that, Port and his team examined ideas such as looking at the most practical, efficient way to get Sandman across the living room floor. “Would you make yourself into a human form and walk? Or would you just blow over there? How would that work? Does he create vocal cords out of sand?...

In its 60-year history, the James Bond franchise has consistently delivered awe-inspiring blockbuster action spectacle. As technology and special effects have evolved, so has the danger and intrigue that 007 finds himself in. For nearly 45 years, Chris Corbould has had a hand in putting everybody's favorite British secret agent in jeopardy while keeping the likes of Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig as safe as possible. Corbould's work with James Bond goes all the way back to "The Spy Who Loved Me" in 1977, when he was an uncredited special effects assistant, and...

Last week, at Deadline's annual film industry event, Contenders: New York, James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were among those participating. They appeared by a video feed from London to discuss "No Time to Die" and were joined by Eon team members Chris Corbould (Special Effects Supervisor), Production Designer Mark Tildesley and actor Rami Malek, who plays the chief villain. While no major news was broken, the team provided some interesting insights into the making of the film, their motivations and some of the challenges they faced. No announcement was made about how they envision a new incarnation of Agent 007, but Barbara Broccoli once again assured fans that Bond will indeed be back.

While No Time to Die producer Barbara Broccoli admitted today that the stewards of the 007 franchise don’t yet know how James Bond will return after Daniel Craig’s swansong as the super secret agent, she did allow, “We’ll figure that one out, but he will be back. You can rest assured James Bond will be back.”
Broccoli was speaking Saturday at Deadline’s Contenders Film: New York event joined virtually by fellow producer Michael G Wilson as well as co-star Rami Malek, special effects supervisor Chris Corbould and production designer Mark Tildesley.
MGM/Eon/Universal’s Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed No Time to Die went through four release-date changes amid the pandemic and had its world premiere September 28 at London’s Royal Albert Hall before opening to $113 million overseas. Its North American rollout began in early October.

In “No Time to Die,” it was important for director Cary Joji Fukunaga to complete Daniel Craig’s arc as James Bond by tying up all five films. This meant emphasizing the emotional connection to Bond, even during the high-octane action sequences, which impacted the VFX. This included the Aston Martin DB5 gun battle in Matera, the sinking trawler with Bond and Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), and the explosive climax atop the control tower roof of baddie Safin (Rami Malek).
“I think the film went to an emotional point that we have not been to before with Bond,” said SFX supervisor Chris Corbould. “It was also interesting for me, having worked on all five of Daniel’s films, to see him master the role of Bond on each subsequent film. Daniel was at his peak on ‘No Time to Die’ and, on set during the emotional scenes, he was the...

Stunt coordinator Lee Morrison is no stranger to working with Daniel Craig’s James Bond — not only has he worked with the actor on all five outings as the spy, he previously he was his stunt double as well.
For “No Time to Die” in theaters, Morrison didn’t just work closely with Craig, he also collaborated with director Cary Fukunaga about working action into the film while keeping story at its center. One key sequence sees Bond riding a motorcycle in a small Italian town, jumping onto the cobbled stone streets as he tries to get back to Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine at the hotel.
Here Morrison talks about the stunt work in the film and his relationship with Craig.
What discussions did you have with both Daniel and Cary about the bike sequence?
We went back and forth trying to design that sequence and get all the story points in too.

We still don’t have a title for “Bond 25,” but we’ve got a baddie (“Bohemian Rhapsody” Oscar winner Rami Malek), a Bond lady (Ana de Armas from “Blade Runner 2049”), and a premise for Cary Joji Fukunaga to direct. Obviously, it was less than what we were hoping for, as producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced the full cast during a live stream event Thursday from author Ian Fleming’s GoldenEye retreat in Jamaica (the spiritual home of the franchise where “Dr. No” and “Live and Let Die” were filmed).
Eschewing the usual Bond launch press conference, they were joined by James Bond star Daniel Craig and Fukunaga, who answered a few fan questions from Twitter. Meanwhile, Malek provided a quip via a video feed from New York about “making sure that Bond doesn’t have an easy ride.”

While “Avengers: Infinity War” topped the 17th annual Ves Awards (to be held February 5th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel) with six nominations, “Black Panther,” Marvel’s other Oscar frontrunner, was shut out. And Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed “First Man,” another frontrunner, was included in the supporting category as a result of its invisible VFX. Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” meanwhile, was also snubbed.
However, joining “Infinity War” in the top VFX category were a surprising list: “Ready Player One” (with five nominations), “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Christopher Robin” and “Welcome to Marwen.” Joining “First Man” for supporting VFX were “12 Strong,” Bird Box,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Outlaw King”.
In animation, Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” was the big winner with five nominations, followed by Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” with four. They were joined by Illumination’s “The Grinch” and Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs.

If you were to make a list of the coolest cars in movie history, the James Bond driven Aston Martin DB5, which first appeared in 1964's Goldfinger, would unquestionably be right near the top of that list. Unfortunately, these cars have been notoriously difficult to obtain over the years, given their status as collector's items, thanks to the Bond franchise. Now, however, Aston Martin has announced that they're reintroducing the DB5 for a special, limited run. To top it all off, this version will include many of the fancy spy gadgets, straight from Q Branch.
The company has announced that a very limited series of 25 Goldfinger DB5 continuation editions will be created for some very lucky (and wealthy) customers by Aston Martin Works and Eon Productions. The new line of DB5s will be based on James Bond's legendary car from the 1964 classic and will be built at Newport Pagnell,...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a visual masterpiece – you know it, I know it, and The Academy knows it, too, after Rian Johnson’s somewhat contentious sequel was nominated for Best Visuals Effects, where it ultimately loss out to Blade Runner 2049. A worthy winner, we might add.
As for The Last Jedi, SFX supervisor Chris Corbould was part of the team responsible for those dazzling effects – from the opening bomb raid to Luke Skywalker’s final stand on Crait, Episode VIII was nothing if not beautiful.
And with the film now available across Blu-ray and DVD (order here), Corbould spoke to IGN about the sequel’s CGI wizardry, and identified those scenes that were somehow – almost inexplicably – created via practical effects. They include Ahch-To’s exploding hut, the Resistance bombing raid, and the Phantom Tree, and Chris Corbould begins by outlining the former:
I think what we did do,...

Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould has revealed some surprising details about the throne room fight in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The second film in the new Star Wars trilogy opened to massive numbers with fans flocking to the theaters, but the film ultimately left viewers split either loving or hating the bold direction that director Rian Johnson took.
Most fans would agree that one aspect the film exceeded in was the special effects, which ranged from CGI for the epic space fight scenes to the use of animatronics and puppets for those adorable porgs.

The 90th Academy Awards has concluded and I think a lot of movie geeks are happy with the way things played out! I couldn't be more excited to see Guillermo del Toro win Best Director and his film The Shape of Water win Best Picture of the year!
We also saw Gary Oldman win Best Actor, which he definitely deserved! Frances McDormand, took home the Best Actress Award and Sam Rockwell won for Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Then there was Jordan Peele, who won Best Original Screenplay for Get Out, which so freakin' cool!
Personally, the one film that I didn't think should have won was Call Me By Your Name for Best Adapted Screenplay. Molly's Game, Logan, Mudbound, and The Disaster Artist were all better films with better scripts!
Below you'll find a full list of the nominees with the winners bolded. Are you happy with the winners?...
