    Before he became a busy actor on stage and screen, Thomas Chalmers sang with the Metropolitan Opera. A star baritone, with the company 1913-1921, he specialized in French and Italian lyric roles, most notably Alfio in "Cavallaria Rusticana" and Valentin in "Faust."
