In 2016, Nathan Carman was found alone and adrift at sea on a life raft after a fishing trip with his mother, Linda. While Nathan was rescued by a cargo ship following a massive search by the U.S. Coast Guard, Linda was nowhere to be found. The case initially seemed like a miraculous survival story, but it soon raised questions about Nathan’s role in his mother’s disappearance. As investigators delved deeper, they uncovered troubling ties between Nathan and the 2013 unsolved murder of his grandfather, John Chakalos, a millionaire who was found dead in his Connecticut home in an execution-style killing. Nathan has consistently denied any involvement in either death.

Eric Carmen, the Ohio-born soft rock singer-songwriter behind era-defining hits like “All by Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” as well as “Almost Paradise” from the movie “Footloose,” died over the weekend of undisclosed causes, his wife, Amy announced Monday. He was 74.
Prior to his solo career, Carmen also had success as the lead singer of the early 70s power pop outfit The Raspberries.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” Amy Carmen wrote in a message posted to the singer’s official site and on Facebook. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”

Look, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. We all know that Starship Troopers (watch it Here) isn’t a horror movie. It’s a science fiction intergalactic comedy with a light tone and Neil Patrick Harris- but it’s also a well-made and tightly performed 90s creature feature that is sure to tickle the nostalgia bone for many JoBlo Horror fans. And with Paul Verhoeven being fresh on the mind from our Robocop episode, we thought it would only make sense to follow it up with another Verhoeven classic that showcases how far the director had come in the 10 years between these two films. If you’re still not convinced, this film also delivers on terrifying creatures, plenty of blood and guts, and even some boobies for you slasher trope seekers out there. While being more comedy/action than anything- Starship Troopers is a film that...

Exclusive: Netflix has enlisted Yon Motskin (Encounters) to direct an untitled documentary feature on Connecticut native Nathan Carman, a young man who, after a fishing trip with his mother Linda off the coast of New England, survives a week on a life raft while she is lost at sea.
As highlighted in the doc, the sensational incident renews interest in the unsolved murder of Carman’s wealthy grandfather years earlier, spurring a media frenzy, a war over a vast family fortune, multiple investigations and ultimately federal charges against Carman for murder on the high seas. He died by suicide last summer while awaiting trial in connection to the death of his mother.
With unprecedented access to family, friends and investigators, the film currently in production is a nautical thriller that explores intimate human mysteries about family, greed, perception, mental health and the unpredictable mind of an enigmatic young man.
Motskin is producing alongside Mary-Jane Mitchell.

“Take a good look, my dear. It’s a historic moment you can tell your grandchildren about—how you watched the Old South fall one night.” That’s perhaps not the most famous line from the 1939 classic “Gone With the Wind,” but it’s possibly the most cutting example of the complicated legacy contained within it.
In 2023, how much should one be telling their grandchildren about this film’s knotty endurance, given its revisionist depictions of contented slaves devoted to kind masters in the Civil War-torn South? And what if those grandchildren are currently enrolled in film schools that traditionally have taught “Gone With the Wind” as a prime example of filmmaking prowess?
“Context is so important,” Emily Carman, associate professor of Film and Media Studies in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University,...

Prince Harry reportedly had multiple podcast ideas during his and Meghan Markle’s partnership with Spotify, however, none of them ever materialized.
Bloomberg’s Ashley Carman looked into why Harry’s ideas weren’t taken on by the streaming platform, with the “Soundbite” newsletter reporter speaking to those with knowledge of the situation to see what Harry had come up with.
The article came after Et confirmed last week that Harry and Meghan’s “Archetypes” podcast and Spotify would be ending their partnership after just one season.
Carman wrote, “During a nearly three-year production deal with Spotify, the Duke of Sussex explored several podcast ideas. None came to fruition.
“I spoke to people with knowledge of the situation about what ideas the prince floated and why none of them ever came to fruition. They requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak about his work. Spotify declined to comment,...

While South Park viewers might remember an era before Butters was one of the show’s heroes, few fans can recall when Pip was a major player in the series. South Park has been through numerous distinct incarnations over the years. Every season of South Park is filled with raunchy comedy and dark social satire, but seasons 1—3 were more focused on gross-out humor and sheer shock value rather than topical political commentary. In contrast, South Park season 4 started focusing on real-world events as the show became more pointedly satirical and less crass and surreal.
These shifts continued into later seasons as South Park made Randy a major main character from around season 14 onwards and experimented with serialized stories from season 18 onwards. Finally, South Park season 26’s shorter run saw the show largely abandon serialized plots but maintain Randy as a lead character, while the show’s feature-length specials focus less...
