Tobe Hooper forever changed the face of horror in 1974 with his film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It featured mixed reviews with Roger Ebert calling it a “weird, off-the-wall horror movie that’s really scary.” While The New York Times called it “despicable” and “a vile little piece of sick crap.” Whether you loved it or hated it, one thing was for sure: after watching it, you would never forget it!
In 2003, as the original horror film approached its 30th anniversary, producers Michael Bay and Mike Fleiss decided it was time to remake the film for a new generation. Now it’s hard to believe this remake is now over 20 years old, so it’s time for a UltraHD release thanks to Arrow Video.

You may be surprised to hear this, but a film set can be a pretty tense workplace. Whether you're leading a crew of dozens while trying to spin millions in studio money into something resembling art, or you're one of the many cogs in the elaborate machinery that keeps a film production on track to be effective and make deadline, there's typically a lot on your plate when it comes to working on a set.
As it turns out, that includes some of our favorite stars. In some cases, it's pushed them to throw punches. Physical fights on film sets tend to be the type of thing that go down in show business legend -- and as such, many instances have differing perspectives from the parties involved about what actually happened. Still, whether it's stress, ego clashes, or just the...

Well, good news, guys, the Hadouken-shouting fighting franchise is reportedly stepping back into the live-action ring. Yep, the world’s most iconic fireball-throwing franchise is returning, and no, we’re not talking about the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme fever dream. Turns out, Street Fighter is finally getting a cinematic reboot, but this time, it’s Legendary Entertainment behind the joy.
It’s been over three decades since the button-mashing glory and a colorful roster of world warriors glammed our screens. And undoubtedly, Street Fighter remains one of the most beloved video game franchises ever, even influencing everything from esports to anime.
Of course, past film attempts ranged from so-bad-it’s-good to just plain bad, but fans are cautiously hyped for this new round. Whether you main Ryu or rage-quit as Blanka, there’s always something thrilling about watching these pixel legends trade punches on the big screen. Though details are still seeping in,...

If there was a horror movie remake scales of justice, it would be tipping heavily toward the side reading “Failure.” Most of the time, the film being revisited is a classic and really begs the question as to why it needs to be made again in the first place. Every once in a while, though, a remake will come along that defies expectations—one that deserves to be given a chance because of the care that was clearly taken to quench the thirst of fans of the original as well as bring new fans into the family. The Marcus Nispel-directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre from 2003 is one of those films. It hit all the right notes, captured the right tone, and cut off the right limbs.

A new Street Fighter movie is due to hit theaters in 2026, and while the original was universally regarded as a train wreck, the remake needs to bring back one element that defined 1994's Street Fighter. Written and directed by one of the 1980s and 1990s' go-to action filmmakers, Steven E. de Souza, Street Fighter adapted the content of Capcom's video game into a movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van-Damme portrayed one of the game's fighters, Colonel Guile, and his team of recruited fighters as they attempt to bring down the evil General M. Bison.
The movie featured many of the video game's most famous and popular characters, including Chun-Li (Ming-Na Wen), Ryu (Byron Mann), and Zangief (Andrew Bryniarski) separated into two camps, leading to plenty of fighting action. While video game movies historically haven't been successful either critically or at the box office, Street Fighter is regarded as a...

Lobo is currently making headlines thanks to the recent announcement that Jason Momoa will be playing him in the new DC cinematic universe. Yet more casual DC Comics fans might not be as familiar with the last Czarnian, and they may be looking to read his best adventures in the original comics before he makes his appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983, Lobo made his first appearance in Omega Men #3. Originally meant to be a parody of more lethal heroes like Wolverine and the Punisher, Lobo took on a life of his own, becoming one of the most popular characters DC had in the 1990s. With his irreverent sense of humor and penchant for ultra-violence, Lobo helped pave the way for Deadpool and even Harley Quinn. Best known for playing Leatherface in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and its prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Andrew Bryniarski has a screen acting career that stretches back more than thirty years, and his forty-plus non-Chainsaw credits include playing Butterfinger in Hudson Hawk, Wyatt Beaudry in Necessary Roughness, Chip in Batman Returns, Steve Lattimer in The Program, Zangief in Street Fighter, Knocko in Higher Learning, Patrick ‘Madman’ Kelly in Any Given Sunday, Joe the Boxer in Pearl Harbor, Halloran in Rollerball, and Count Dracula in Dracula’s Guest. Unfortunately, it’s been a few years since Bryniarski has had a prominent acting role and he has fallen on some hard times – so he’s seeking help from his fans through a GoFundMe campaign.
Bryniarski explains the situation he’s currently in: “Recently, wildfires forced me to evacuate my home in California, leaving me displaced and uncertain about the future.

Director Tobe Hooper's 1974 low-budget feature "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" is not just loved by those who embrace the horror genre; it's one of the most cherished examples of truly independent cinema ever produced. Made for just tens of thousands of dollars, Hooper's film birthed a horror legend for the ages in Leatherface, as well as a franchise that is actually still going to this day. That franchise would hit its apex in 2003 with a gritty, bigger-budget remake of Hooper's iconic classic.
Oddly enough, it was "Armageddon" and "Bad Boys" director Michael Bay who got the ball rolling on "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" remake, a movie that might have seemed like sacrilege for those who cherished the original. But...

When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

Remakes were all the rage in the 2000s. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Black Christmas, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax, The Crazies, My Bloody Valentine, The Hills Have Eyes – and the list goes on and on. And then there’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
A Platinum Dunes creation, the 2003 remake did what most remakes fail to do: honor the original while doing something wildly unique and equally as cool. Director Marcus Nispel, also behind the Friday the 13th remake, carves out a special place in the pantheon of horror by trusting his instincts and letting the cast play (and scream along the way). 20 years later, the bright spot in the sea of mediocre remakes still operates on all cylinders, and in many respects, outpaces the 1974 original.

While we have had horror remakes over the years, the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre truly ushered in a new era of the modern horror reboot that didn't seem like it was going to stop until every major horror title, both mainstream and not, were given a fresh sheen for a new generation of fans. Since so many horror remakes came after Leatherface's return to the big screen, it might be hard to remember how good the 2003 take actually is. By paying homage to the Tobe Hooper classic and carving its own path, the 2003 redo is arguably the best horror reboot of the modern era, as it did spark a slew of imitators that tried to duplicate its success.

For most horror franchises, a decent fifth film seems to be harder to find than a Necronomicon and usually about as dumb as the guy who’d read it out loud. According to those who have seen Evil Dead Rise (now playing in theaters!), however, it looks like the franchise is now home to the rare fifth entry that actually rules. Hail to the King, baby.
It shouldn’t come as a big surprise to Evil Dead fans because this franchise doesn’t miss. Introducing time travel? No problem. Remake? Kicks ass. Fifth sequel curse? Come get some.
Now, let’s take a look at a handful of other fifth entries that have enjoyed that same rarified air. Here are in no particular order some of my favorite fifth horror movies….

"Firefly" premiered on Fox in 2002 and soared for 11 glorious episodes before crashing and burning due to network meddling and gross ineptitude. Three unaired episodes were included on the subsequent DVD release, bringing the final episode tally to 14. The series was briefly resurrected with the 2005 film "Serenity," which concluded the narrative in a satisfying enough fashion. For diehard Browncoats — the moniker super fans have given themselves — the series has an outsized hold on our hearts despite its criminally shortened lifespan. As the theme song says: "You can't take the sky from me (us)."
Though "Firefly" is an ensemble, Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) is the protagonist and its best character. In this installment of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Jonathan Liebesman’s unfairly maligned prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
While the production company is now mostly known for movies like The Purge and A Quiet Place, it was originally a series of horror remakes that put Platinum Dunes on the map. Flicks like 2005’s The Amityville Horror and 2009’s Friday the 13th made big money at the box office, but it was the astounding success of the 2003 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake that made this endeavor possible in the first place.
And with the success of that initial remake convincing Hollywood that brutal horror was still a sound investment, it makes sense that TCM would be the first movie in Platinum Dunes’ repertoire to garner a sequel. So where might a filmmaker go after a no-holds-barred splatterfest that ends with most of the cannibal family being...

Rock and Shock served as New England’s premier horror convention for 16 wonderful years before its reign came to an unexpected end in 2019. While several other events admirably attempted to occupy the void left in the local horror community, none were quite able to fill Rock and Shock’s sizeable shoes.
If its debut is any indication, Silver Scream Con is, at long last, a worthy successor to the throne. Created by Massachusetts’ own horror-inspired metal band Ice Nine Kills, the first ever Silver Scream Con took place August 26-28 at the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Ma.
Rock and Shock catered to the intersection of music and horror, but with Ice Nine Kills’ rabid cult following behind it, Silver Scream Con brought in a new audience beyond die-hard genre fans. Informal polls conducted before each panel consistently showed that more than half of the attendees were at their first horror convention.

Back in the summer of 1992, director Tim Burton unleashed his sequel to his hit take on Batman called Batman Returns. This underappreciated flick starred Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Danny DeVito as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin, and the fantastic Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle / Catwoman. If you remember in that movie, Pfeiffer brandishes a whip for all of our collective enjoyment and today it looks like the actress has found the old prop and - get this - still knows how to make it sing.
Michelle Pfeiffer recently took to her Instagram account to show off the whip saying, "Look what I found. Needs a little TLC." Then a bit later she shared a video of herself cracking the good old whip just like a femme fatale Indiana Jones. I don't know about you, but this is pure joy for me considering that not only was Michelle Pfeiffer one of my first crushes,...

Digital Spy presents Games on Film, a look back at the numerous (and quite often disastrous) movies based on video games. How closely do they stick to their source material, and how well do they hold up on their own merits?
Previous Games on Film: Super Mario Bros | Resident Evil
Street Fighter (1994)
Back in 1993, Street Fighter II was just about the coolest video game on the planet. Its genre-defining gameplay and colourful characters had made it the busiest coin-op in arcades across the globe, and creators Capcom saw in it the potential for a huge cross-media franchise, starting with a big screen adaptation.
Capcom wanted the film turned around fast in time for Christmas 1994 and hired action screenwriter Steven E de Souza (Commando, 48 Hrs, Die Hard) to write and direct the film in what would be his first and only directing job in Hollywood. A slapdash cast was assembled, propped...

As I mentioned in yesterday’s wrap-up of Platinum Dunes’ remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it didn’t seem like the team behind that film were thinking in terms of “franchise” when they set about to re-introduce Leatherface to a brand new audience. If they had, then I doubt the ending of that movie would’ve had as many finalities with their core group as it had; something that earns that particular remake bonus points. So, after winning over the skeptical fans and in lieu of a slew of similar post-Chainsaw horror movies that followed like Saw and Hostel (which Chainsaw producer Mike Fleiss also was involved with), the Pd gang started seriously contemplating an appropriate follow-up. And for them, the only story that made sense to tell was the one that came before the remake.

One of my favorite aspects of the old Fangoria Weekend of Horror shows was that they always kicked off the convention with a slew of upcoming horror movie trailers. In the days long before you could simply watch these previews on the Internet, you’d have to plan accordingly, make sure you take an early enough train into the city so that you wouldn’t miss the trailer reel show which was always first on the itinerary for Fango cons. And I’ll never forget when the very first teaser trailer for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake played in front of a packed audience. It was the one dubbed “the Michael Bay teaser” on the eventual DVD release, which was primarily a black screen and the sound of a girl hiding in a closet before we hear a chainsaw erupt to life and tear a hole in the door & in turn the movie screen.

The L.A.-based marketing agency Dilemma is seeking co-producers for a feature film adaptation of Martin Shapiro's horror comic "Chopper".
Described as a modern-day spin on "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", the story follows a headless motorcycle rider looking for vengeance in the afterlife.
Earlier this year, Dilemma produced an ambitious nine episode web series that introduced prequel storylines intended to set up the film (see the series here).
Tyler Mane and Andrew Bryniarski starred in the web series and will reprise their roles for the feature. Shapiro wrote the screenplay while J.C. Christofilis is producing. Shooting aims to begin mid-2013.

The marketing company Dilemma is moving forward with plans to turn the web series Chopper into a feature film. The company is currently seeking co-producers at the American Film Market.
The series is based on Martin Shapiro's comic book, which puts a modern-day spin on the classic Sleepy Hollow story by following a headless motorcycle rider looking for vengeance in the afterlife. Tyler Mane and Andrew Bryniarski will reprise their roles from the web series for this new feature.
Martin Shapiro wrote the screenplay, with Dilemma founder J.C. Christofilis producing. Here's what the producer had to say about the project.

Here at Dread Central we're always happy to see justice being served, and that's exactly what happened for Andrew Bryniarski (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) as all charges of animal cruelty have been dropped.
TMZ reports Bryniarski has been vindicated! Days after the actor was busted for animal cruelty, the charges have been dropped. According to law enforcement sources the Santa Monica City Attorney decided to let the case go because the 25 dogs they found in Bryniarski's Rv all checked out "healthy and happy."
Previously Bryniarski insisted he was merely running a mobile adoption center for the dogs and said they were in good health and well fed. Now he plans to reunite with the dogs as soon as the shelter opens this morning and tells TMZ that he will continue operating the adoption agency from his Rv... just not in Santa Monica.

Today he let reporters into his Rv with cameras to show the condition that his dogs were living in. From what we can see, there's plenty of food and water and other pet care essentials, and the reporter onsite did confirm that said Rv did not smell at all like dog urine, etc.
Andrew went on to explain that he and his girlfriend had purchased the vehicle five days ago from a reputable animal rescue association with the intention of using it as a mobile adoption unit. Since the reporting of this story, the rescue association confirmed Bryniarski's story when reached for comment. Good for you, Andrew.

In a truly sad and somewhat bizarre story making the rounds on the web today, Andrew Bryniarski (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) was arrested with his girlfriend this past Saturday for suspicion of animal cruelty.
TMZ reports that Bryniarski was arrested for animal cruelty in L.A. last week after cops said he was keeping 25 starving dogs inside his mobile home. Cops were dispatched to the actor's motorhome in Santa Monica at 10:30 Pm on September 8th after receiving multiple tips from a concerned neighbor who constantly heard the sound of crying dogs coming from Bryniarski's property. When cops approached the home ... no one was there ... but officers say they could see several metal dog kennels containing roughly 15 small dogs, all Pomeranians. It's been a couple of months since last there was anything to report regarding the feature film debut of DC Comics' intergalactic badass bounty hunter Lobo, but alas, a logline has come. Read on for what the flick will be about!
According to It's on the Grid, "Lobo, a powerful alien bounty hunter, lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc." Yep, that definitely sounds like something Lobo would do. A bit of a no-brainer, no? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is slated to play the titular character.
Lobo is an alien that works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Introduced as a hardened, rarely used hard-boiled villain in the 1980s, the character remained in limbo until his revival as an anti-hero biker in the early 1990s, when he became one of the most popular and bloodier characters in the DC Comics stable.
