The Marvel Universe hit its stride in the '60s with The Fantastic Four and changed the face of comics forever with its blend of science and the fantastical. For decades since, the characters have remained the foundation of the universe and have even made the cross to live action no less than four times, though one version never saw the light of day thanks to some frustrating legal issues. Nevertheless, The Fantastic Four is an important part of comics history that, even in a world where heroes crossover in live-action all the time, has yet to meet their Marvel counterparts on the big screen.

Is Tom and Jerry popular in Yemen? Is Tom and Jerry popular in Sierra Leone? One brave fan is about to find out.
Thanks to the title characters’ aversion to speaking, it’s no surprise that the classic comic and animation duo Tom and Jerry have no trouble breaking the language barrier and finding audiences outside the United States. In fact, the Tom and Jerry cartoons have been an international comedy phenomenon since the 1960s, and countless cultures have connected with the comically violent cat-and-mouse antics of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s flagship duo in the decades since.
Unfortunately, while the many internet Tom and Jerry historians have a general timeline of the cartoon’s release in major nations like the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan, there is not enough publicly available data that can definitively show just how much each of the world’s 195 recognized countries truly love Tom and Jerry.

Many robots are featured in cartoons and animated series. These characters are often faster, stronger, and smarter than their human counterparts. They may stand against danger, or they might cause it. That being said, robots aren't always the smartest in the bunch. The fun about robots is the many different creative ways that they appear. Fans often flock to robot characters due to the way they perceive and interact with their worlds.
Some iconic robots have been around for decades. Their popularity allows them to return to the small screen due to constant remakes or reboots of their original series. This is a testament to how loved they are, whether they are the heroes of their narratives, the villains, or fall somewhere in the morally ambiguous middle. Robots are always a great concept, especially as the modern world progresses into more advanced technology.

As if to further cement the comical irony of Coyote vs. Acme being shelved, Warner Bros. Animation is looking to begin pre-production on a new iteration of Tom and Jerry. In an exclusive report from Deadline, Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, and Michael Govier have been set to write the script. The project is set to revive the iconic animated cat and mouse duo, previously attempted in the 2021 live-action hybrid film Tom and Jerry, which also starred Chloë Grace Moretz.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros Pictures Animation is developing a brand-new Tom and Jerry movie, which will be written by Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, and Micahel Govier.
William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the mischievous cat and mouse at MGM in 1940. Over the next two decades, they produced 114 shorts that won 7 Oscars. Others have revived the duo over the years with more shorts and a variety of TV shows. The characters most recently starred in the 2021 live-action/animated hybrid film Tom & Jerry, which received largely negative reviews and grossed $136 million worldwide.

Beginning in the 1950s, Hanna-Barbera emerged as one of the greatest creators of Saturday-morning cartoons of the 20th century, thanks to properties like Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones and The Jetsons. As the company continued to produce excellent and popular shows, it built up a strong, nostalgic reputation that has endured well into the 21st century, despite the company being defunct. Along the way, the best characters and shows of the company have been given some fun comic books.
Hanna-Barbera's properties come from two visionary creators, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, whose unique style of animation dominated TV for close to two decades. From their legendary crossover shows to reinventions of their own characters, the company's IP continues to prosper today, through games, film, animation and comics - the latter of which are responsible for a slew of brilliant stories, especially in tandem with its sister company, DC Comics.

In 1957, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera founded Hanna-Barbera, an animation company that quickly became the biggest name in Saturday-morning cartoons, thanks to franchises like Scooby-Doo. Covering a range of topics, styles, and genres, the company's original characters, as well as those they licensed, built up an impressive run of kids' entertainment, before eventually being bought up by Warner Brothers.
From adventure shows to superhero series, Hanna-Barbera's history remains one of the strongest in Saturday morning cartoons, despite the company being defunct. While some of the company's signature properties live on, others have needlessly been allowed to fade into obscurity. In an age where animation and nostalgia are both experiencing a golden age, some of the classic company's best hits need to make a comeback.

A great ending can be the hardest thing for a writer. For Robert Towne — who died Monday, having written and reshaped some of the most important films of the 1970s — finding the best way to wrap up a film was a career-long challenge. In the script that earned him an Oscar, the downbeat “Forget it, Jake — it’s Chinatown” finale was famously Roman Polanski’s idea.
And yet, there’s undeniable poetry in Towne’s passing: The Oscar winner died 50 years (and two weeks) after “Chinatown” opened, basking in the fresh round of appreciation that the half-century anniversary brought. Towne was a natural raconteur whose stories were every bit as rich as his screenplays — as evidenced by an in-depth Variety interview that ran last month — and whose best writing often went uncredited.
For those who weren’t around to have witnessed Towne’s transformative impact on American cinema in the 1970s,...

Brian Levant's 1994 film version of "The Flintstones" is a classic example of how major studio blockbusters, no matter now successful, can vanish entirely from the public consciousness. "The Flintstones" is rarely regarded in 2024, often seen only as footnote in its actors' careers, or perhaps a whimsical blunder not worth remembering. Those of us alive in 1994 recall the massive advertising glut that came with "The Flintstones," as well as the toy tie-ins, the magazine covers, the Universal Studios attractions, the Williams pinball machine. "The Flintstones" was a studio tentpole writ large, boasting a beloved, decades-old IP and a dazzling cast of celebrities; John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Elizabeth Taylor appeared, while the film boasted cameos from Laraine Newman, Jay Leno, and the B-52's.
Notably, "Jurassic Park" cinematographer Dean Cundey shot the film, while "Jurassic Park" Michael Lantieri similarly served as SFX supervisor. Everything was super-slick and polished nearly to death.

Nickelodeon and Disney might come to mind when you think of great kids shows. After all, both networks have been producing programming for kids for decades.
Despite that fact, both companies have been under fire in recent years, particularly Nickelodeon, following the release of the Quiet on Set documentary.
Here is the perfect list if you want to expose your kids to some great shows that are not associated with either company.
Hanna-Barbera Classics (Various)
The Hanna-Barbera cartoons are classics that kids and adults of all ages can enjoy together. Many of them are geared toward children but include jokes to amuse adults.
Founded by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in the late 1950s, Hanna-Barbera Productions produced 249 cartoon series between the 1950s and 1980s. Many of those have since become beloved classics.
A personal favorite of mine is Scooby Doo, and many fans share my love for the crime-solving dog and his Mystery Inc.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera are two of the most important men in the world of animation. After spending decades working for MGM on the Tom & Jerry cartoons, they founded their studio, Hanna-Barbera, which came to dominate animation on television. Though they have been criticized for their limited animation styles, Hanna-Barbera pioneered many techniques for making animation cheap and efficient, paving the way for more impressive animated shows in the following decades.

Tom and Jerry hold the record for the most Oscar wins of any cartoon characters, with 7 wins in total. Disney's most iconic character, Mickey Mouse, has only won one Oscar out of cartoon short nominations. Tom and Jerry's record number of Oscar nominations and wins for their shorts has to do with studio competitors' wider variety of cartoon characters across their shorts.

December 12th marks what would have been Frank Sinatra's 108th birthday. Sinatra is unquestionably one of the twentieth century's greatest entertainers. One of the highest-selling musical artists of all time, Sinatra's record sales surpassed over 150 million. In the late 1990s, Time magazine included Sinatra on their list of the 100 most influential people of the twentieth century. Famed music critic Robert Christgau named Sinatra the best singer of the twentieth century.
However, a gravely underrated aspect of Sinatra's career is his acting prowess. Not only is Sinatra an icon of the music industry, but he is also one of Hollywood's premier stars. Many of Sinatra's finest performances rank among cinema's most memorable movie roles.

Solar Opposites season 4 offers an explanation for abandoning its sci-fi premise, providing a surprisingly satisfying excuse. The show veers away from sci-fi plots in favor of purely comedic adventures, with only a few references to the alien characters. The lack of a sci-fi focus works for Solar Opposites as it embraces zany, far-fetched storylines akin to an R-rated family sitcom.
In Solar Opposites season 4, Terry finally offers an explanation for the series abandoning its original premise, and it is a surprisingly satisfying excuse. Solar Opposites debuted on Hulu in 2020 and immediately garnered criticism for its apparent similarity to Rick and Morty. Like that earlier Adult Swim hit, Solar Opposites was co-created by Justin Roiland and similarly had a premise that focused on sci-fi tropes. Solar Opposites tells the story of the eponymous alien family, a mismatched group who tries to assimilate into Earth’s culture and has a lot of zany adventures along the way.

This post contains spoilers for Solar Opposites season 4!While Solar Opposites season 4 may change some elements of the show’s familiar formula, the latest outing of Hulu’s sci-fi comedy is as full of references and Easter eggs as ever. Solar Opposites immediately earned comparisons to Rick and Morty when the series debuted in 2020. Like Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites was co-created by voice actor Justin Roiland. Like the earlier Adult Swim hit, this animated sitcom also parodies sci-fi tropes in its wacky, R-rated stories. However, since Solar Opposites focuses on a family of aliens attempting to assimilate into Earth’s society, the series is lighter and sillier than Rick and Morty.
However, while the two shows have their differences, there are still a lot of striking similarities between them. For one thing, both Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty parody movies constantly, with the two shows referencing famous and...

Chances are that if you're reading this, you're not part of the population that enjoyed Tom and Jerry during its prime. The franchise was created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, and it ran for almost 30 years until more powerful media franchises took over the market. We understand the TV industry worked differently back in the day, but what many people don't know is that at some point this small and very basic show was up there alongside Disney's Silly Symphonies and Looney Tunes. Yes, it was that big.
However, it was through reruns and syndication that the show regained its popularity as decades went by. We were no longer in the golden age of American animation, but Tom and Jerry grabbed our attention every time they showed up on the small screen. It didn't matter if the short was one we had seen before, we would watch Tom get humiliated,...

William Denby Hanna and Joseph Roland Barbera first teamed up at MGM to produce Tom and Jerry. In 1957, they founded their own company, Hanna Barbera, and their innovation in limited animation allowed them to dominate cartoons on television. Though the studio was merged into Warner Bros. in 2001, many of its younger animators and writers went on to produce the original lineup for Cartoon Network.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania continues Scott Lang's MCU journey. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Scott wants to make up for the time he lost while stuck in the Quantum Realm. However, his family including his now teenage daughter Cassie Lang, are pulled into the Quantum Zone. As they try to figure out how to get back home, they discover a new threat: Kang the Conqueror.
Peyton Reed returns to direct the third installment in Ant-Man's trilogy, the second director after Jon Watts to direct three MCU films for the same hero. While the Quantum Realm has been an important part of these heroes' stories, this will be the first movie to fully explore the strange, amazing, and dangerous miniature universe. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicks off Phase Five for Marvel and introduces the next major Avengers-level threat with Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror.

While The Simpsons might be a television institution in 2023, a behind-the-scenes battle almost cut the show’s existence short after only one episode—which happened to be one of the show’s creepiest outings ever. The tone of The Simpsons has changed immeasurably since the series debuted in 1989. For its first two seasons, The Simpsons was a more grounded family sitcom than the goofier, more anarchic show that viewers eventually grew to know and love. However, in its contemporary incarnation, The Simpsons is more irreverent than ever and less tethered to reality than almost any other television show, with its canon changing from episode to episode.
While The Simpsons season 34 breaks its own rules in most episodes, the series was originally envisioned as a more realistic show that based its humor on anecdotes from the creator’s childhood. Surprisingly, this led to a behind-the-scenes conflict that almost derailed the entire...

When it comes to cartoons on television, one animation team stands out above all others. Founded by animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the studio created hundreds of characters that embedded themselves in audiences of all ages. While the settings differed, their style is recognizable to everyone - vaudevillian-style humor, characters modeled after celebrities of yesteryear, cheap animation, and an inexplicable laugh track.

Stephen King's 1986 novel "It," for its overwhelming length and chronological sprawl, centers on a very simple and basic horror premise: clowns are terrifying. Perhaps there was a time in his planet's history when pale-faced, blue-haired ghouls with painted-on smiles and gin blossom encrusted noses were considered charming and delightful, but anyone who recalls that time died over a century ago. In 2022, many might readily agree that clumsy, "comedic" traditional circus buffoons are now merely greasy, manic, and threatening.
The monster in King's novel was an impossibly ancient shape-shifting Lovecraftian space deity that fed on human fear, with the ability to read human minds and manifest what they were most afraid of. Perhaps instinctually, the universal fear shape that this creature elected to take was that of a clown. It gave itself the name of Pennywise, and would hibernate in the sewers under Derry, Me, awakening every 27 years to frighten and eat children.

On Sept. 23, 1962, ABC debuted The Jetsons at 7:30 pm to television audiences. Like the Stone Age Flintstones, the futuristic animated family sitcom would become an enduring franchise for producers Hanna-Barbera. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review of the first episode, “Rosey The Robot,” is below:
The Jetsons is based on the same premise as The Flintstones, with the difference that the projection is in the future instead of the past. A family situation comedy, done in animation (and for those with color sets, color), the new Hanna-Barbera production should attract a good audience.
The jokes are familiar, but the setting gives them novelty and an added dimension, and cartooning is certainly suited to the TV screen.
Larry Markes’ script for the initial episode lightly sketched in the characters, mother, father, two children (boy and girl) of the Jetsons, a 21st Century family.

Video Version of this Article Photo: Adult Swim Cartoon Network Embraces its Adult Side On October 1st, 1992, Cartoon Network was launched, and in the coming years became a prominent face in entertainment. Labeled as the “best place for cartoons”, it was the first ever channel to have a specific 24-hour focus on animation. Consisting mainly of Hanna Barbera, MGM, and Warner Bros. series and shorts, the network slowly began to develop its original programming. Curiously enough, the first original program made by the network (Not counting the anthology series ‘The Moxy Show’) was ‘Space Ghost: Coast to Coast’, a show aimed at older audiences, in stark contrast to the very kid-centric cartoons that would follow later on during the decade. The network also dabbled in late-night programming with blocks of adult-oriented cartoons at this time, showing that even early on, Cartoon Network had more than just kids in mind. Things...

Cartoon stars Tom and Jerry were invented by Will Hanna and Joe Barbera in 1940 for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Tom, a mute cat, and Jerry, a mute mouse, starred in 114 theatrical shorts in their initial run from '40 to '58, and won seven Academy Awards. Thanks to the gods of Saturday morning, many Tom and Jerry shorts made their way into heavy rotation on television, and the ultraviolent animal combat films became deeply entrenched in the subconsciousness of several new generations. Tom and Jerry cartoons were typically pretty violent, often featuring new and interesting forms of abuse. Unlike the Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons, wherein a coyote was consistently harmed by his own hubris, Tom and Jerry cartoons were aggressive, even hateful. The characters loathed each other and were eager to do one another harm.

Roughly 50 years after the first episode of “The Jetsons” premiered, fans are gearing up to celebrate the birth of George Jetson, which according to lore, is July 31, 2022. But is that really his birthday?
On Thursday, a hawk-eyed fan pointed out that “someone is about to give birth” to the show’s main character, via a fan site listing the family patriarch’s exact birthdate.
The animated sitcom created by William Hannah and Joseph Barbera took place in the 21st century. Although no mention to a specific year was ever made in the show, promotional materials and articles from the time explained that it was set exactly 100 years in the future, according to MeTV.
Further evidence can be found in the episode “Test Pilot,” which aired Dec. 30, 1962. When Jetson’s doctor tells him he “should live to be 150,” he replies, “I’ve got 110 good years ahead of me!” – making him 40 years old.

If there was any doubt that the future is here (for better or worse), just remember that you are now living in George Jetson’s lifetime. Animation fans are celebrating an important milestone this weekend, as several savvy Twitter users noticed that the Spacely Sprockets employee, husband to Jane, and father of June and Elroy, is said to be born on July 31, 2022. That still gives us 40 years before the events of the show begin, so there’s no need to feel bad about not having flying cars yet.

The newly renamed facility, which was formerly known as Cartoon Network Studios Europe, operating from Great Marlborough Productions, will be WarnerMedia’s flagship television animation studio within Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation (Wba) and Cartoon Network Studios (Cns), and Vanessa Brookman, head of kids Emea, will jointly head the studio.
The original studio, Hanna-Barbera Productions, was founded in 1957 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and created several iconic characters including Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Yogi Bear.

Photo: ‘Tom & Jerry’/HBO Max Tom and Jerry were a huge part of my childhood. In addition to the ‘Looney Tunes’ and ‘Merrie Melodies’ series with Bugs Bunny and Co., Tom and Jerry were among the first cartoons I ever saw when I was a kid. I still have fond memories of sitting in front of the TV and devouring the shorts whenever Cartoon Network ran marathons of the series whether it’s the original run from William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the quirky Gene Deitch era (with its strong Eastern European animation feel), or the more stylized and comparatively subdued Chuck Jones years. There’s a reason the gray and white housecat and his brown mouse foil have endured for 81 years since their debut in 1940: they’re the quintessential cat-and-mouse team. There’s a simplicity to the premise: Tom tries to catch Jerry, plucky Jerry always outsmarts unlucky Tom,...
