The Forsytes hasn't even premiered and good news about Season 2 is already coming our way. Today, Masterpiece on PBS announced that the cast of the next season of the period drama series is expanding. Richard Rankin (Outlander) is one of the new names that will integrate the cast of the upcoming episodes, which are currently filming in the U.K. Season 1 is expected to premiere on Masterpiece on PBS in March 2026.
The addition only underscores how PBS is confident in the story of The Forsytes. The renewal for Season 2 was announced three months ago, way before Season 1 premiered. Rankin plays fan-favorite Roger in Outlander and has also been in the cast of other high-profile series such as The Last Kingdom and Rebus. In the vast, churning sea of streaming content where gritty anti-heroes and season-long arcs reign, a show like “Art Detectives” feels like an act of quiet rebellion. This six-part series from Acorn TV revives the case-of-the-week procedural, a format many considered a relic of broadcast television.
The show invites viewers into the Metropolitan Police’s Heritage Crime Unit, a department tasked with investigating offenses tied to the rarefied world of art and antiquities. At its center is Di Mick Palmer, a wonderfully eccentric detective played by Stephen Moyer, whose passion for history is his primary investigative tool.
He is quickly partnered with the sharp, pragmatic DS Shazia Malik (Nina Singh), forming a duo tasked with solving murders where the clues are hidden in Vermeer paintings and Viking hoards. The series promises intellectual puzzles over gratuitous violence, offering a type of escapism that feels both traditional and curiously fresh in today’s television environment.

What defines a "comfort" show or a "cozy" series? Most people would say that they are the type of shows that have low stakes, and you can watch mindlessly, but that's not always the case. For many TV lovers, procedural and investigative shows like Chicago Fire and Law & Order: Svu are their go-to titles for when they just want to kick back and watch something familiar, yet compelling. And some even dip into the horror genre, finding comfort in controlled anxiety. While promoting his new crime drama series Art Detectives, TV star Stephen Moyer talked to Collider's Maggie Lovitt about how we can change our perspective once we realize a series' true intentions.
During the interview, Moyer revealed to Lovitt that this happened to him back when he was preparing to join the cast of the hit HBO series True Blood. The actor talked about his former impression...

For Los Angeles-based production workers, 2025 was supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, the year quickly fell into a pattern that has become all too familiar for the local industry when the hopes that things might finally return to normal were squandered yet again by an unprecedented, devastating event.
In January, two historic wildfires ravaged the city, swallowing thousands of homes and leaving more than $250 billion in damages in its wake. After succumbing to runaway production for decades, which avalanched in the last five years following pandemic-related shutdowns and 2023’s historically long, dual strikes, California’s film and television production had been brought to its knees. But rather than view this latest tragedy as a death knell, it was almost as if it became the jolt the local industry needed to fight back.

The hour-long procedural has long been one of network television's go-to genres. When done effectively, they can last for decades and launch multiple spin-offs that make a gazillion dollars for creatives and suits alike. What's the secret to the crafting of a long-running procedural? In the case of the broadcast war horse known as "Law & Order," it's to hit on a unique narrative format (i.e. the criminal justice system viewed from the street and court levels), and hit big on every casting choice. For shows as unabashedly formulaic as CBS' "NCIS," it's good enough to hit big-ish on every casting choice, and get slotted into a favorable spot on the broadcast schedule.

It can often feel like Christmas movies are dominated by the classics, with many a 21st-century offering struggling to compete with the likes of It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and the many versions of A Christmas Carol. Alas, one such movie to become underrated thanks to the nostalgia-weighted festive period is Sarah Smith's Arthur Christmas. Boasting an impressive certified fresh 92% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an audience score of 77%, Arthur Christmas can be fairly considered a modern holiday classic based on quality, and perhaps deserves better mention when discussing the greats.

Lee Mack and Chris McCausland star in festive comedy Bad Tidings. Here’s the trailer for the upcoming Sky TV production.
Comedians Chris McCausland and Lee Mack are building up quite a portfolio of work together. They previously collaborated on an episode of the latter’s hit sitcom Not Going Out last year, in which McCausland played a passenger travelling in the same carriage as Lee’s family. They also presented at the BAFTAs together, and McCausland appears alongside Mack on game show Would I Lie To You.
They are now starring together in festive film Bad Tidings for Sky. The synopsis reads as follows:
This year’s Sky Original Christmas special revolves around grumpy home-security expert Neil (Mack) and his neighbour Scott (McCausland), who insists on keeping his Christmas lights illuminated all-year-round. And mixing up their bins, criticising Neil’s ‘project’ car and generally winding him up. Basically, Scott’s a git.

The film features entwined stories about family and friends, love and loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake.
In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lovia Gyarkye praised the “charming animation” while adding that the movie “slyly avoids the usual mawkishness by grounding its whimsical story in the real and prickly emotions of life.

There’s a great beating heart at the center of Lucy Kirkwood’s The Welkin, making its American debut after an ill-timed January 2020 premiere at London’s National Theatre. Fans of Sandra Oh’s masterful work on Killing Eve and Grey’s Anatomy won’t be surprised to find her bringing the same kind of acerbic warmth and casually razor-sharp intelligence that Eve Polastri and Dr. Cristina Yang shared to Elizabeth Luke, an 18th-century English midwife who finds herself wrapped up in a murder trial. Even churning butter, which Oh approaches with a ferocious purposefulness, Lizzy still has lots of bite.
The accused is Sally Poppy (Haley Wong), a maid who skipped town with a ruffian only to come back home to her husband drenched in the blood of the young rich girl she used to serve. She’s already been found guilty of murder, but she’s “pled the belly.

Give Me an A is a a horror, sci-fi, dark comedy response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and will be screening Sunday April 2nd at 3:30 at the Overlook Film Festival.
