A Les Paul guitar that was famously stolen from The Rolling Stones in the early ’70s was recently discovered in a collection of guitars obtained by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The 1959 sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard belonged to former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, who purchased it from Keith Richards in 1967. The axe was notably played by Richards during the Stones’ historic Ed Sullivan Show appearance in 1964, as well as by Taylor during the band’s infamous Altamont gig in 1969. Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton were also known to have borrowed and played it at one point.
Until now, the guitar was considered long gone, having been stolen from The Stones during the sessions for 1972’s Exile on Main St. at the Villa Nellcôte mansion in Côte d’Azur. The burglary, purportedly the work of local drug dealers that Richards owned money, resulted in the theft of nine guitars,...

There are many, many ways that pop-culture fans have discovered shapeshifting rocker/actor Michael Des Barres over the decades. Some may know him from his big-screen debut at age 17 in the 1967 Sidney Poitier film To Sir, With Love; or as the frontman of the Deep Purple- and Led Zeppelin-associated bands Silverhead and Detective; or as the cowriter of Animotion’s 1983 hit “Obsession”; or as the longtime host of the Little Steven’s Underground Garage morning show on SiriusXM; or as iconic MacGyver villain Murdoc; or for his many other television appearances on shows like Roseanne, Seinfeld, Melrose Place, Northern Exposure, Frasier, and Nip/Tuck.
But if you’re one of the Gen X kids among the estimated 1.9 billion people (nearly 40 percent of the world population at the time) who watched the global Live Aid concert broadcast 40 years ago, on July 13, 1985, then you might best know Des Barres as the...

Stars: Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, Tom Atkins, Darlene Love | Written by Shane Black, Jeffrey Boam | Directed by Richard Donner
Nearly four decades after its explosive debut, Lethal Weapon remains one of the defining films of the action genre. Now, with Warner Bros.’ new 4K Uhd release, Richard Donner’s 1987 classic gets the restoration it has long deserved, reaffirming its place in the pantheon of buddy-cop cinema.
The film that kicked off the enduring franchise stars Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs, a volatile, grief-stricken former Special Forces soldier-turned-lapd detective teetering on the edge of self-destruction. Opposite him is Danny Glover’s Roger Murtaugh, the seasoned, sensible family man counting down the days to retirement. What follows is a masterclass in chemistry, conflict, and camaraderie — a mismatched duo navigating drug cartels, conspiracies, and car chases while redefining the buddy-cop formula.

Long before Gary Clark Jr. jammed with Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, and Foo Fighters, and headlined festivals all across the globe, he was an unknown, unsigned blues guitarist in his hometown of Austin, Texas, desperate to make a name for himself. In the year 2000, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was the biggest game show on TV. Like all popular game shows, it wouldn’t be long until they cranked out a celebrity edition of the show. In fact, it debuted that same year. For Celebrity Millionaire’s second week, the contestants were a truly eclectic group — a group that included Tyra Banks, Vivica A. Fox, Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen and disgraced rapper P. Diddy. There were also a host of comedians, the most memorable of which was Norm Macdonald, who was the very last to compete for his charity.
It was worth the wait, however, as Macdonald cranked out a number of hilarious zingers during his short stint on the show. Here are his 10 funniest jokes and answers…

Exclusive: Live Nation Productions has tapped Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Nickel Boys) to pen a feature centered on “Godmother of Rock and Roll” Sister Rosetta Tharpe, with rock legend Mick Jagger producing.
Hailing from Tribeca Studios, Jagged Films, and Inaudible Productions, the project has the participation of Tharpe’s estate, which has granted rights to her music catalogue. In the making of the film, the producers will also draw on Gayle Wald’s definitive biography Shout, Sister, Shout!: The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, to which they’ve secured exclusive rights.
Rising to fame in the ’30s and ’40s, Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a trailblazing gospel guitarist and singer whose fearless transgressions of musical boundaries laid the foundation for rock and roll. Canadian singer-songwriter Matt Andersen has an unrelenting work ethic. Since the early 2000s, he’s seemingly always been on tour or recording new music. Andersen immediately cites his father, a self-employed tree logger who worked long days in the northern woods of Andersen’s native province of New Brunswick.
“He always told me he wanted to work for himself,” Andersen tells Rolling Stone. “And I always had that in my head.”
Calling in from his home not far out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the cell service is spotty and scratchy at best.

This article contains Major Spoilers for Sinners, now showing in theaters.
Audiences didn't have to wait too long to find out Sinners had a post-credits sequence. Director Ryan Coogler confirmed that epilogue was first on his priority list: it was his personal tribute to someone important.
Director Ryan Coogler said his late Uncle James was one of the reasons Sinners was made. It was also crucial that they cast blues legend Buddy Guy as the older Sammie in the epilogue. "I wrote what I thought [my uncle] think would be cool," he told Entertainment Weekly. "[Buddy Guy is] the only artist that my uncle would consistently get dressed for and go see a lot." Coogler's uncle grew up in Mississippi, the birthplace of Delta blues; Buddy Guy's style is rooted in the genre. A renowned Chicago bluesman, his musicality inspired Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray, and many other guitar legends.

Amadou Bagayoko, one half of the Malian musical duo Amadou & Mariam, has died at the age of 70. Known for fusing Malian music with classic rock influences, Bagayoko is survived by Mariam Doumbia, his wife and musical partner, and his three children.
According to Mali’s Minister of Culture, Mamou Daffé, Bagayoko had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time. Daffé revealed on television that the musician passed away in Mali’s capital, Bamako, which doubled as Bagayoko’s birthplace.
Bagayoko was born in 1954 and became blind at 15, the result of a congenital cataract. This led him to study at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind, where he met Mariam Doumbia in 1976 while playing in the school’s Eclipse Orchestra. The two would eventually marry in the 1980s. Doumbia lost her own eyesight when she was 5 years old, and the duo was often labeled as “the blind couple from Mali.

It’s about damn time! Someone is finally making a movie about Rosetta Tharpe, the gospel singer who transcended the art form to become one of Rock’ n’ Roll and R&b’s most influential pioneers. The biographical project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with four-time Grammy award winner Lizzo (Hustlers) shredding the electric guitar to play Rosetta.
In addition to her starring role, Lizzo is producing the film with Kevin Beisler, Significant Productions’ Nina Yang Bongiovi, and Forest Whitaker. Natalie Chaidez and Kwynn Perry are writing the script, focusing on the life and times of Rosetta Tharpe, the mother of Rock’ n’ Roll. Simply put, there would be no Rock ‘n’ Roll without Tharpe’s influence. She inspired icons like Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and innumerable others to set fire to strings and give their souls to the musical art form.

The Saturday Night Live “host who doubles as musical guest” doesn’t have a great track record. Sure, we get the occasional Ariana Grande showing off her Nick Kid chops, but more often we’re subjected to one-dimensional pop stars looking to cross over into acting careers. Can Bad Bunny, Halsey or Charli Xcx conquer new worlds? Usually not. Sometimes they’re okay, but okay shouldn’t be the bar. Isn’t being Jack Harlow enough? Does Megan Thee Stallion have to prove she’s Megan Thee Comedian?
But sometimes, we’re treated to someone like Lady Gaga. Fresh off her Worst Actress Razzie nomination for Joker: Folie à Deux, Gaga fronted one of SNL50’s best episodes of the season. While none of the sketches were instant classics, SNL served up a consistently satisfying show by leaning on the host’s ability to channel the fizziest, most talented kid in the high school musical.

A day after her latest album, Mayhem, was released, Lady Gaga reminded Saturday Night Live that she can sing.
“I know you might be thinking I’m here to promote my album, Mayhem, but I’m actually here to remind you I’m an amazing actor,” she said during her monologue.
But, it turned out, Gaga was in full voice during the sketches.
After riding across New York on an electric suitcase in the opening sketch alongside Marcello Hernandez, Gaga teamed with Bowen Yang for a parody duet. Dressed in a red dress, the pair mocked up their own version of Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight.”
“It’s later that evening and we’re wasted in Times Square,” sings Yang. “So, I eat a full Big Mac and I shave off my body hair,” sings Gaga. “And then she bites me on both my nipples left and right, and I...

It’s springtime, and love is in bloom on Saturday Night Live… with a little help from Eric Clapton.
Lady Gaga and Bowen Yang played a couple on a first date in a sketch on this week’s SNL, with the two teaming up for a duet of the Clapton classic “Wonderful Tonight.” The date got increasingly bizarre, though, as the two of them got to know each better. Gaga’s character Janelle warned Yang’s soul patch-sporting Gianfranco that “if you’re hoping to get me into bed tonight, you’ll be disappointed.” But then she clarified: “I’ll sleep with you.

Paramount+ is ready to rock — and they've released over 125 episodes of musical performances to its streaming service to prove it. Coming at you from the other Viacom-owned properties like MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, and CMT Crossroads, many of the episodes haven't been seen since they first aired. And with a list of performances that includes the likes of Elton John, Neil Young, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, and even Nirvana's now-iconic November 1993 performance — which aired a mere seven months before the singer Kurt Cobain died — the list is a treasure trove for any music fan.
According to a press release from the streamer, more than 70 of the episodes have not been available to the public for more than 20 years. And, considering how much purging of content Paramount Global has done over the years, it's a relief to see that some things still get saved in the digital age.

A massive trove of live performances from the late-Nineties/early-Aughts glory days of music television has finally made it to the streaming era, with Paramount+ uploading old episodes of MTV Unplugged, CMT Crossroads, and VH1 Storytellers.
As Billboard notes, these collections aren’t entirely comprehensive, with random episodes and full seasons missing here and there for all three programs. Nevertheless, there’s still a deep assortment of classic performances to dig through, including most of the episodes that appeared on Rolling Stone’s list of the 15 Best Episodes of MTV Unplugged.

The word "legend" is thrown around frivolously in pop culture, but there are only a handful of musicians that genuinely achieve a status so acclaimed that their impact lives on for decades beyond their lifespans. On the list is undoubtedly the King of the Delta Blues, Robert Johnson. The singer only recorded 29 songs during his life, tragically dying at the young age of 27 in 1938. However, his legacy is one that would go on for years to come — earning a place in the Rock of Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 — influencing some of the most established artists in the world today including the likes of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelinand Jimi Hendrix. In fact, he was so widely hailed that the myth of his time was that he sold his soul to the Devil for his mastery of the guitar. Now, many decades on from Johnson's death, the first...

Exclusive: Jesse Collins Entertainment and Concord Originals are partnering on a biopic of Robert Johnson, the influential musician nicknamed the King of the Delta Blues.
The project will mark the first authorized narrative feature on Johnson, a figure famous for his culture-defining influence on rock legends like the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin. Ridgeway Wilson (Black Girls Rock!) is set to write the script.
Born in Mississippi in 1911, Johnson pursued his passion for music partly as a way to avoid the sharecropper lifestyle prescribed to him by the American South. He took the tortuous lifestyle that came with being a Black man in that time and place and transformed his personal experience into music of universal relevance and global reach. When he died at 27, allegedly murdered by the jealous boyfriend of a former lover, his few recordings debuted posthumously at Carnegie Hall. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,...

Frank Sinatra was the odds-on favorite to be the big winner at the inaugural Grammy Awards in 1959, but — perhaps as an early indicator that things wouldn’t always go to plan at the Grammys — ‘Ol Blue Eyes lost out on both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
The music industry’s most recognized awards were established in 1958 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the United States.
The first Grammy ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, with only 28 categories, a number that since has swelled past 100 and now settled at 91. It was attended by many of music’s elite. Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini and André Previn gathered for a black-tie dinner and awards presentation inside the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton.

Back in the Eighties and Nineties, the release of a major rock star memoir was a fairly uncommon event. Noteworthy ones like George Harrison’s I, Me, Mine (1980), Iggy Pop’s I Need More (1982), and David Lee Roth’s Crazy From the Heat (1997) popped up every once in a while, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that this genre started making regular appearances on The New York Times bestseller list, thanks to landmark works like Anthony Kiedis’ Scar Tissue, Bob Dylan’s Chronicles: Volume One, Eric Clapton’s The Autobiography,...

The executor of his estate executor confirmed the news to the Toronto Star.
