Duster TV Review: J.J. Abrams and Lost star Josh Holloway reunite for a retro mystery roller coaster
Image
Plot: Set in the 1970s Southwest, Duster explores the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate that goes from dangerous to wildly, stupidly dangerous when a tenacious young agent comes into town hellbent on taking his crime family down.

Review: When Lost debuted in 2004, it introduced audiences to several fresh faces, including Josh Holloway. Playing the smart-ass anti-hero Sawyer, Holloway became a sex symbol and seemed to have a big career ahead. Despite a small role in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the short-lived series Intelligence and Colony, and a supporting turn on Yellowstone, Josh Holloway has been criminally underutilized in Hollywood. Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan set out to create Duster as a showcase for Holloway, which evolved into a rip-roaring retro thriller blending 1970s vibes and mystery series and an intense modern sensibility. Giving Josh Holloway a starring role tailor-made for his good looks and swagger,...

iPhone Vpn app security 'broken', Apple says issued a fix
Image
San Francisco, Aug 20 (Ians) After a security researcher claimed that iOS Vpn (virtual private networks) apps are broken due to a flaw, Apple said it has already offered a fix. However, ProtonVPN says its only a partial solution.

According to security researcher Michael Horowitz, VPNs on iOS are broken.

“At first, they appear to work fine. The iOS device gets a new public IP address and new Dns servers. Data is sent to the Vpn server. But, over time, a detailed inspection of data leaving the iOS device shows that the Vpn tunnel leaks,” he wrote in a blog post.

“This is not a classic/legacy Dns leak, it is a data leak. I confirmed this using multiple types of Vpn and software from multiple Vpn providers,” he claimed, saying that Apple knows about this flaw for at least two and a half years.

Apple insists it has offered a...

Trump Backs Unsubstantiated Claim the Nsa Is Spying on Tucker Carlson: ‘Totally Believable’
Donald Trump
Former president Donald Trump is totally buying into the idea that the National Security Agency is illegally spying on Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

In an appearance on “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show” — Fox’s replacement for Rush Limbaugh’s program — Trump said he thought there could be some truth behind Tucker’s seemingly madcap theories that the Nsa is monitoring his communications at the request of President Biden.

“I think it’s true. It’s totally believable,” Trump said of Tucker’s claims. The full clip of Trump’s remarks is available via Mediaite.

During a June 28 episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News, Tucker said he has been tracked by the Nsa and also implied that other members of either the show or at Fox were being targeted.

Tucker said an anonymous leaker “repeated back to us information about a story that we are working on,...

Rep. Cori Bush Demands Answers on Treatment of BLM Protesters vs. Trump Insurrectionists
Image
As a leader in the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in St. Louis after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, Cori Bush was used to showing up at protests and seeing police, often fully deck out in riot gear, already waiting for them. Those memories came back to her as she watched videos of rioters, including one toting a Confederate flag, break into the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. “We knew at any moment we would be maced, pepper sprayed, tear gassed, rubber bullets would start flying,” Bush says. “But that...

Hot Doc On The Selling Block: DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Howard & Grazer’s Imagine Making ‘Timothy Leary: Follow Me To Freedom’
Image
Exclusive: As documentary films and series continue to escalate in prominence in this age of binge watching, here’s a package that is creating some excitement as it is shopped this week and next. Imagine Documentaries and Appian Way Productions have partnered to produce Timothy Leary: Follow Me to Freedom, a docuseries that draws upon Leary’s vast archives and is fueled by exclusive access to his longtime personal archivist, Michael Horowitz. Malcolm Venville is set to direct what the filmmakers believe will be the definitive account of Timothy Leary’s odyssey, with never-before-seen access to Leary’s personal archive.

This is thanks to resources provided by Horowitz, a rare books and manuscripts specialist who was building a library in San Francisco on the history of mind-altering drugs when he learned that psychedelic scientist/LSD advocate Leary had been imprisoned in Governor Ronald Reagan’s crackdown.

Five Questions Still Remaining After the Release of the Horowitz Report
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz created waves in Washington last week with the release of a lengthy report about the origins of the “Crossfire Hurricane” Trump-Russia investigation.

Pundits focused on his finding of no “political bias” in the decision to investigate Donald Trump, while conservatives focused on abuses of the Fisa process. Horowitz left a lot of key questions about the Russia investigation unanswered, however, including:

Who is Joseph Mifsud?

A congressional source last week said, “I don’t see any way the investigation can be aboveboard if Mifsud isn’t a Russian agent.

President Donald Trump Tweetstorm – The Saturday Edition
An aggressive President Donald Trump warmed up for his appearance later today at the annual Army-Navy football game with some smash-mouth tweeting.

In an unusually busy early morning, the Commander-in-Tweet treated his Democrat foes like it was Ravens vs. Jets, running over them with taunts, threats and retweets. The game plan appears to be aggressive targeting of the 31 Democrats in Trump-won congressional districts, who must be feeling like a rookie cornerback facing Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers.

We’ll update as more communications roll-in. The tweetstorm so far:

The newly signed Usmca is a sweet relief to farmers in rural districts like mine, writes @RepTedBudd https://t.co/oZ5nUvUgHY

Donald Trump Calls Into ‘Fox & Friends’ In Extended Attack On Democrats, The Media, Impeachment And Ukraine
Donald Trump
Donald Trump gave his first extended interview following this week’s impeachment inquiry hearings to Fox & Friends, and it was what would be expected: A lengthy attack, even a tirade at times, on Democrats, the news media and Ukraine.

The hosts at times questioned some of Trump’s assertions.

Trump advanced a debunked conspiracy theory that the hacked Democratic National Committee server was somehow given to the Ukrainians to hide the country’s role – not Russia’s – in meddling in the 2016 election.

“The FBI went in and said, ‘We’re not giving it to you.’ They gave the server to Crowdstrike, which is a company owned by a very wealthy Ukrainian. And I still want to see that server. You know the FBI has still never gotten that server. That is a big part of this whole thing. Why did they give it to a Ukrainian company?”

Host Steve Doocy interjected,...

Kamala Harris Seeks Investigation Into Attorney General Barr, ‘He Should Not Act as the President’s Henchman’
California Senator Kamala Harris’ pointed questioning of Attorney General Bill Barr during this week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings garnered a lot of attention. Not only because Harris asked questions with unflinching precision but because she left Barr with no choice but to obfuscate about whether or not President Donald Trump or other White House officials “asked or suggested” Barr open an investigation into anyone.

On Friday, Harris sent a letter to the Justice Department’s inspector general Michael Horowitz asking for an investigation into the matter. According to CNN,...

“Prison Break” is back and busting loose again.

In the revival series, Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) have found out that somehow Michael (Wentworth Miller) is alive. But of course he’s in prison. Time to do what they do best: Break out of prison. Meanwhile, Michael has a plan, and it involves something very innocuous. Check out this never-before-seen clip:

Along with the clip, Callies, Purcell, Miller and Robert Knepper, aka T-Bag, and execute producers Vaun Wilmott and Michael Horowitz appeared on the Comic-Con panel today in San Diego. Although we didn’t find out just exactly how Michael is alive (since he had apparently died in the series finale) we do learn that his tattoos are different this time around.

Miller said, “Michael has a fresh set of tattoos and they’re central to the plot. But they don’t work quite as they did the first time around.

Fox Buys Conspiracy Thriller From Drew Chapman, Drama From Michael Horowitz
TV and film writer Drew (formerly Andrew) Chapman is set to adapt his upcoming first novel, The Ascendant, as a drama series for Fox through 20th Century Fox TV. In the vein of Three Days of the Condor, The Ascendant is described as a modern, subversive take on the white-knuckle thriller. It centers on Garrett Reilly, a 26-year-old NYC bond trader and financial wunderkind who recognizes a huge U.S. Treasury bond selloff and an opportunity to become incredibly rich but stumbles upon something much larger — and scarier: the first attack in a covert war of unthinkable proportions. The novel – which will be published by Simon & Schuster in January with a big initial print run of 75,000 — is envisioned as a franchise, with Chapman already writing the second book. In TV, Chapman, repped by Rothman Brecher Agency, Original Artists, Regal Literary, Ragna Nervik Management and Jonathan Shikora is writing ABC’s...

Faith Brook obituary
Actor of poise and beauty who enjoyed a rich and productive career on both sides of the Atlantic

Faith Brook, who has died aged 90, was an actor of remarkable elegance, poise and beauty. She was the daughter of Clive Brook, a pillar of the so-called Hollywood Raj, the British acting community that settled in Los Angeles in the 1930s. He appeared opposite Marlene Dietrich in Shanghai Express. Even if she was never a star on the scale of her father, Faith enjoyed a rich and productive career in theatre, film and television on both sides of the Atlantic.

She was born in York and moved with Clive and her mother, Mildred, to California, where her father had already put down roots. Her brother, Lyndon, was born four years after Faith and also became a successful actor.

She was educated in Los Angeles, London and Gstaad, Switzerland. She made her stage...

We'd better keep moving.

Winona Ryder
For nearly a quarter century, lovely actress Winona Ryder has been making legions of cinema-goers fall in love with her. Though she’s had her share of personal troubles, she is now experiencing a career resurgence. Ever charming, always entrancing, sorely missed of late ... the doe-eyed beauty is back. Winona Ryder was born Winona Laura Horowitz on October 29th, 1971 in Olmstead, Minnesota (not far from Winona, Minnesota, for which she was named). She is the daughter of Michael Horowitz, author, editor, publisher, and antiquarian bookseller, and Cynthia Palmer, writer, editor and video producer. Winona has a younger brother named Uri, as well as an older half-sister, Sunyata, and an older half-brother, Jubal. As the daughter of self-described hippies (not that there’s anything wrong with that), Winona’s godfather was Lsd guru Dr. Timothy Leary (for whom her father was an archivist). When Winona was 7-years-old...

Nickelodeon eyeing 'Spectacular!' sequel
Nickelodeon's TV movie/musical "Spectacular!" doesn't premiere until Presidents Day, but the cable channel is quietly laying the groundwork for a possible sequel.

"Spectacular!" writer James Krieg has been hired to pen a potential second installment, which would be directed by Robert Iscove, helmer of the upcoming original about a wannabe rock singer who joins the school choir. A green light for the project is still a ways away, but Nickelodeon is said to have high hopes about turning "Spectacular!" into a franchise a la Disney Channel's "High School Musical."

Additionally, Krieg and "Spectacular!" exec producer Jessica Horowitz have set up "Den Brother," a two-hour movie, at Disney Channel. The script will be adapted from an unpublished manuscript by Michael Horowitz about a high school hockey player forced to lead his sister's Brownie troop.

Also in the hopper is "After Midnight," an animated series Krieg is producing with Jessica Horowitz...
