We waited a long, long time for director Ridley Scott to make a sequel to his beloved 2000 Best Picture-winning classic, "Gladiator." That sequel arrived in late 2024 in the form of "Gladiator II." Gladiator II sees the historical epic sequel move on from Russell Crowe's deceased protagonist from the original film, Maximus Decimus Meridius, and make his son, Paul Mescal's Lucius Verus, the focal point. However, one of the follow-up's writers reveals a scrapped flashback scene that would have reintroduced Maximus despite his fate inGladiator.

Speaking with The Direct, Peter Craig, one of Gladiator II's original writers, detailed the scrapped scene, which would have seen a short flashback featuring Maximus after Lucius learns the former Roman general is his father and visits his grave. An early draft mapped out a sequence where Lucius would connect with his ancestors, prompting the connection with Maximus.

Sky has today that Derek Jacobi, Mawaan Rizwan, Maria Friedman, Meera Syal, Danny Dyer, Ray Fearon, Alice Eve, Lucien Laviscount and James Lance have joined the cast for its upcoming Sky Original Christmas film ‘Tinsel Town.’

They join the previously announced casting of Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson.

Sutherland plays Bradley Mack, a failed Hollywood action star who ends up in a small, snow-dusted village to star in the town’s eccentric production of ‘Cinderella.’ Here, he encounters a colourful cast of oddball locals who slowly come to hold a special place in his heart, including no-nonsense choreographer Jill (Wilson). Comedian Katherine Ryan (The Duchess) will take on the role of Mack’s long-suffering agent with the local villagers played by the legendary British actor Derek Jacobi (Gladiator II).

Ridley Scott is assembling a star-studded ensemble for his next film, The Dog Stars, adding the talents of Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce to star in his Gladiator II follow-up.

Per Deadline, Qualley, Brolin, and Pearce join Jacob Elordi in The Dog Stars, which is an adaptation of the post-apocalyptic novel by Peter Heller of the same name. Originally, Scott had tapped Gladiator II star Paul Mescal to star in the film. However, Mescal had to depart the project due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Elordi. Qualley was recently seen in the hit body horror film, The Substance, while Brolin recently reprised his role of Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve's epic sci-fi sequel, Dune: Part Two. Pearce can be seen in the Oscar-nominated film, The Brutalist, which is now playing in theaters. Pearce was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film.
