Pete Rose & 1919 Black Sox Eligible For Baseball Hall Of Fame After MLB Commissioner’s Ruling
Image
Pete Rose, one of baseball’s greatest baseball players who was banned from the sport for life in 1989, will finally be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame after a ruling handed down Tuesday by the commissioner of Major League Baseball.

Rob Manfred ruled that MLB’s policy shall be that “permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual.” Rose, baseball’s all-time hits leader and a 17-time All-Star, died in September at age 83.

The ruling was spurred by an application by Rose’s lawyer and family, and came about as Rose was the first player banned after the tenure of baseball’s first commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis — who originated the rule of no gambling in baseball in 1921 — to die while still on the list.

Rose was banned from the game in 1989 after an investigation found he bet on games — a violation of MLB’s Rule 21 — while manager of the Cincinnati Reds,...

Why The Frasier Writers Vetoed A Joke On The Simpsons
Image
In 1997, both "The Simpsons" and "Frasier" were at the height of their powers. The former had already been on the air for seven seasons but was arguably at the apex of what is now recognized as the golden age of "The Simpsons." (Even the show's current writers know they can't compete with classic "Simpsons.") Meanwhile, "Frasier" was in its fifth season and had similarly proven to be remarkably consistent. Both shows were two of the smartest and funniest on TV, and with "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer having already guest-starred on "The Simpsons" a full five times, it was only right that the animated series pay full tribute to one of the only shows on TV that could claim to be on an equal level.

This tribute came with season 8, episode 16, "Brother from Another Series." Debuting in February 1997, the episode saw Sideshow Bob (Grammer) released from prison after having been arrested in "Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming,...

Sylvester Stallone Made An Uncredited Appearance In One Of The Greatest War Movies Ever
Image
The simple version of Sylvester Stallone's rise to fame has it that the young actor wrote "Rocky" and cast himself in the lead role, thus becoming a star overnight. Indeed, a 1978 Playboy interview began by recalling how, with that 1976 movie, Stallone had "burst upon the American movie scene like a Roman candle." As is so often the case with these things, however, Stallone hadn't simply transformed his life overnight -- he'd been struggling to break through for some time.

That very same interview with Playboy also detailed how Sly had "spent many years waiting in the wings for his career to take off," which wasn't just a metaphor. Stallone's acting career prior to "Rocky" consisted of him playing what he termed in a 1977 BBC interview to be "atmosphere." That is, after moving to New York in 1969, he spent years as an extra, playing "the guy that was being the...

"I'm Not Against It at All": Original 'Frasier' Cast Member Would Return if the Series Were Rebooted Again
Image
The Frasierrevival may have been cancelled at Paramount+, but if it finds a new home, Frasier Crane may just get a visit from his long-lost brother. David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles Crane on all eleven seasons of Frasier's original run, is open to a guest appearance on the series. Varietyreports that although Pierce turned down a regular role on the series, he'd be happy to drop in on Frasier's new Boston abode.

The series, which debuted in 2023 and ran for two seasons before Paramount+ cancelled it earlier this year, had Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) relocate to Boston to be closer to his firefighter son, Frederick (Jack Cutmore-Scott), in the wake of his father Martin's death. Several Frasier supporting and recurring characters have made appearances on the series, including Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth), Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe (Dan Butler), and Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris), but Niles, who...

This Is Your Chance To Live In Frasier's Actual Apartment (If You're Rich)
Image
Anyone who grew up on '90s sitcoms will surely have envisioned themselves living in Frasier's high-end downtown Seattle condo. Dr. Crane's home at the Elliot Bay Towers was pure fantasy, with its completely unrealistic view of the Space Needle and tastefully decorated interior that a radio psychiatrist almost certainly couldn't afford. How much does Frasier's apartment actually cost? Well, people have actually tried to figure this out, and rough estimates put the three-bed at roughly $1.5 million in 1993 — the year "Frasier" debuted on NBC. That's according to real estate brokers' best guesses and the fact we know Frasier's apartment cost the show's set decorators around half a million real-world dollars to make.

For most of us, then, occupying such an apartment will always remain a distant dream. In a strange way, that's part of the appeal of "Frasier," in that the show immersed us in a world that we'd never otherwise have known.

How Much Does Frasier's Apartment Really Cost?
Image
'90s sitcoms knew how to do apartment sets right. To this day, fans of "Friends" still wonder how Monica could afford that gigantic New York abode, despite the show's attempts to explain it with "rent control." The only apartment nicer than the legendary purple two-bed from "Friends," however, was surely Frasier's luxury Seattle high-rise condo.

At least in the case of "Frasier," we could imagine how a radio psychiatrist with a significant public profile might afford an impressive (and entirely unrealistic) view of the Space Needle. The doctor's home remains a truly iconic piece of '90s pop culture and has even sparked the birth of an aesthetic known online as "Frasurbane" — think wood-panelled academia-meets-Barnes & Noble coffee house. Not only was Frasier's expansive living room instantly recognizable for its view of the Emerald City and post-modern design elements, there were little features spread throughout that made it truly memorable,...

The 10 Greatest ‘Rashomon’ Sitcom Episodes
Image
Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 crime drama Rashomon took the concept of an unreliable narrator and quadrupled it. In telling the story of how a samurai was murdered, four people give their own contradictory accounts of the death while painting themselves as more virtuous than the others.

Despite the heaviness of the source material, Rashomon has gone on to inspire an unlikely medium: sitcoms. Since at least 1962, sitcoms have used the central storytelling device from Rashomon for comedic effect by letting characters give differing perspectives of the same incident. Each respective narrator typically portrays themself to be the hero of the situation, while describing others as guilty or incompetent.

For comedy, the device is perfect: It highlights character biases and breeds conflict as each retelling contradicts the last. And while it may be a fairly common trope now, some sitcoms have used it exceptionally well, with these 10 standing out as the best…...

Kelsey Grammer Is Rumored to Be Begging His Original ‘Frasier’ Co-Stars to Join the Canceled Reboot
Image
Frasier has left the building – and by building, we mean Paramount+. Earlier this year, the streamer decided that they wouldn’t be picking up the Frasier reboot for a third season, meaning that viewers hoping to enjoy the hijinks of Dr. Frasier Crane will have to get by with the 11 seasons of the original show, and the nine seasons of Cheers that he was part of.

But despite the fact that Frasier 2.0 was canceled, its star, Kelsey Grammer, seems oddly optimistic about the show’s future. Immediately after Paramount+’s decision was announced, sources claimed that the reboot was being shopped around to other platforms and recently, Grammer revealed that he feels “very positive” about Frasier finding “a better home.”

Grammer also suggested that, were the show to return, Sam Malone could be a part of it, since Grammer and Ted Danson are no longer on bad terms. Of course,...

Frasier Becomes a Streaming Hit Again 2 Months After the Revival's Cancellation
Image
The fate of the Frasier reboot remains unclear two months after Paramount+ canceled the new-age edition of the Kelsey Grammer-led sitcom. However, while producers try to find a new home for the revival, the original series becomes a hit on its streaming service, proving Dr. Crane's everlasting appeal to fans.

Per Flix Patrol, the Og Frasier has become a hit on Paramount+, ranking ninth on the streamer's Top 10 charts in the United States. The series is just above the 2023 supernatural teen drama series, School Spirits, in 10th place. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spinoff, 1923, tops the list.

Frasier remains one of the most beloved comedies and successful spinoffs in history, with the series chronicling the titular radio psychiatrist who fans became familiar with during its parent show, Cheers. Frasier sees Dr. Crane relocate from Cheers' home in Boston to his native Seattle, where he emerges as a popular Kacl...

Liam Neeson’s Performance in 'Suspect' Is One of His Best

Quick Links'Suspect' Features Liam Neeson's Most Challenging Performance'Suspect' Launched Neeson to Hollywood Stardom'Suspect' Is an Underrated Courtroom Thriller That Warrants Multiple Viewings

Liam Neeson has become so closely identified with the action genre over the past 15 years that it’s easy to forget what an accomplished and interesting dramatic actor he was before the surprising box-office success of the first Taken film completely changed the trajectory of Neeson’s career, with increasingly diminishing returns.

Neeson proved his dramatic ability with his breakthrough Hollywood role in the 1987 legal mystery thriller film Suspect, in which he plays Carl Anderson, a deaf and mute homeless Vietnam War veteran who is arrested and prosecuted for the murder of a Justice Department legal typist. Suspect stars Cher as Kathleen Riley, a public defender who’s assigned to defend Anderson in the trial, which is connected to the highest corridors of Washington, D.C. power,...

10 Best Episodes of the Frasier Reboot, Ranked
Image
Against all odds, a show that many fans never thought to see return was Frasier. It had been almost twenty years since the series finale in 2004, and yet Kelsey Grammer returned to the role in 2023 for a reboot brought to audiences by Paramount+.

Unfortunately, after only twenty episodes, the show was unceremoniously canceled. Fans were disappointed, especially due to the fact that the reboot felt right at home with the original series. Although the locations and characters were different, audiences felt like the reboot was just like classic Frasier. Even though the show won't continue, fans can still enjoy their best episodes.

George Wendt's Norm From Cheers Shows Up In More TV Shows Than You Might Expect
Image
Even more than four decades after its premiere, "Cheers" remains one of the best sitcoms of all time. The initial premise of the series was twofold: first, the show would focus on the denizens of the eponymous Boston sports bar and their daily foibles, and second, there would be a burgeoning romance between the bar's owner and the newly hired barmaid, Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), respectively. The first season alone of "Cheers" is a master class not only in incisive and hilarious comedy writing, but also in the ability to maintain 22 episodes' worth of stories without ever leaving the bar itself. Within that first season, a slew of characters who were both familiar archetypes and somehow fresh-seeming were established. Aside from the lothario Sam and the well-read and extremely intelligent Diane, there was the sassy barmaid Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman), the kindly but not-very-bright barback...

10 Must-See Romantic Comedies of the 1980s, Ranked
Image
Throughout the twenty-first century, romantic comedies have experienced a slow death. During this period, major Hollywood studios have focused primarily on action-based blockbusters, leaving little room for high-profile romantic comedies. Recently, when studios do decide to produce romantic comedies, they receive streaming-only releases. These films tend to feature poor acting, subpar screenplays, and corny, cliché-ridden narratives. Major publications such as The Washington Post, Variety, and Parade have all written articles declaring the romantic comedy as a dead genre.

While the current state of romantic comedies seems to be in limbo, the complete opposite was the case in the 1980s. During the 1980s, romantic comedies thrived both critically and commercially. In Hollywood, romantic comedies such as When Harry Met Sally..., Tootsie, and Moonstruck ranked among the most iconic films of the decade. Overseas, romantic comedies like Pauline at the Beach and My American Uncle earned numerous accolades at international film festivals.

“It’s kicking a dead horse… And it was… horrifying”: A Real-Life Kelsey Grammer Issue Almost Single-Handedly Got Frasier Canceled
Image
Frasier is widely regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, but it came dangerously close to being canceled, not because of ratings or creative struggles, but due to Kelsey Grammer’s serious addiction issues. Throughout his career, Grammer battled substance abuse, and at times, it threatened not just his own well-being but the very future of the show.

Despite his struggles, the series endured, and his portrayal of the lovable yet pompous Dr. Frasier Crane remained iconic. Here’s how his personal battles almost cost Frasier everything.

How Kelsey Grammer’s addiction nearly ended Frasier!

For 11 seasons, Frasier set the gold standard for sitcoms, racking up a record-breaking 31 Emmy wins. At the heart of it all was Kelsey Grammer, whose charm made Dr. Frasier Crane an icon. But behind the scenes,...

Celebrate the Anti-Awards Season with MoMI’s Annual ‘Snubbed’ Festival

What do Kim Novak, Jim Carrey, John Turturro, and the late Donald Sutherland all have in common? Well, aside from being acclaimed actors, these stars have never (we repeat: never) been nominated for an Academy Award. And that crime is now being celebrated by the annual anti-awards season festival, hosted by the Museum of the Moving Image.

The beloved museum announced its third iteration of the popular “Snubbed” screening series, which reexamines films that have been overlooked by the Academy. The 2025 theme is centered on actors and titled “Snubbed Forever: Great Actors, No Nominations.” The program will run February 1 through March 9, and feature 21 films starring actors who have never been nominated for an Oscar.

Highlights include Kim Novak in the enduring “Vertigo,” John Turturro and John Goodman in “Barton Fink,” Rita Hayworth in “The Lady from Shanghai,” Jim Carrey in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” and Danny DeVito in “Batman Returns.

Ted Danson, Shelley Long, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Nicholas Colasanto, and Rhea Perlman in Cheers (1982)
Frasier | Sitcom revival cancelled by Paramount+
Ted Danson, Shelley Long, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Nicholas Colasanto, and Rhea Perlman in Cheers (1982)
Paramount+ has cancelled the revived version of Frasier after two series. The show is now being shopped to other networks.

Frasier is undoubtably one of the most beloved American sitcoms of all time. Spun-off from Cheers, itself an 11 season American institution, Frasier had some of the wittiest writing on television, elevated by the magnificent casting of David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s equally fastidious brother Niles.

Along with the much missed John Mahoney as their dad, Martin, Jane Leeves as housekeeper Daphne Moon and Peri Gilpin as acerbic producer Roz Doyle, over 11 seasons the show became embedded in American culture.

According to Deadline, Paramount+ has decided not to move forward with a third series. One of the reasons given is that the show “could not break through in a major way on Paramount+”.

However, the creative team are shopping the show to other networks. There may yet be a future for the show.

Frasier tossed by Paramount+ after two seasons; who will scramble to pick it up?
Image
Put away the tossed salad and scrambled eggs because the Frasier revival has been canceled after just two seasons. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see more, as even though Paramount+ will no longer produce the show, CBS Studios is still on board for the future of Frasier.

While the future of Frasier is currently uncertain, as you can stream the original Frasier on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, that could be an indicator that the revival may find a home there as well.

Already a spin-off, Frasier didn’t initially seem worthy of coming back. But the nostalgia wave was strong enough for it to land on Paramount+; it, too, proved to be just what it needed to be: something comfortable for fans of the original to nestle into. Sure, it was missing both the late John Mahoney (who played Frasier Crane’s father Martin) and David Hyde Pierce...

This 14-Year-Old Sitcom Was Home to 4 Secret Frasier Reunions
Image
Hot in Cleveland may seem like one of the last places you’d expect to see any Frasier cast reunions. With its predominantly female cast and a setting over 2,000 miles away from Seattle, the show bears few similarities to Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce’s zany high-class world. In fact, it’s usually compared to Golden Girls.

However, against, Hot in Cleveland hosted many impromptu cast reunions for the turn-of-the-millennium psychological sitcom. Behind the scenes, it was written by Suzanne Martin, who contributed to multiple episodes of Frasier, and on-screen, it has some familiar faces as well. Jane Levees, best known for playing Daphne Moon in Frasier, is part of the series’ lead cast. Wendie Malick, who portrayed Martin’s (played by John Mahoney) girlfriend, is also part of the primary lineup. And they’re joined by many other well-known personalities as the show progresses.

All 11 Season Finales Of Frasier, Ranked
Image
Frasier (1993-2003) is a cerebral sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer as popular Seattle radio psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane, and it has several great season finales. When Frasier returns to his hometown in Washington state, his father, Martin Crane (John Mahoney), moves in with him, creating endless tension between the two. To top things off, Frasier’s brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce), promptly falls hopelessly in love with their disabled father’s caregiver, Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves).

The Crane family antics have been a beloved mainstay of the sitcom genre for the past 32 years. This 90s comedy show was recently resurrected in the 2023 Frasier reboot, although the remake was greeted with less critical acclaim. Over the course of 10 years on the air, the original Frasier show created big shoes to fill with its interplay of screwball comedy and universally relatable themes. Many of the most memorable episodes of the show were its season finales,...

The Frasier Storyline That Had Niles Actor David Hyde Pierce Overcome With Emotion
Image
When David Hyde Pierce signed on to play Niles, the titular doctor's brother in "Frasier," he initially thought the pilot script was "terrible." The actor thought the writers had essentially created two versions of the same character in Frasier and Niles and wasn't sure how the show's dynamic was ever going to work. Fast-forward two years to the 1995 episode "The Last Time I Saw Maris," and Pierce was fully converted. Having played Niles for almost three seasons, the actor had developed a bond with his cast mates and an appreciation for the writing quality on "Frasier," which remains one of the best and most consistently well-written sitcoms in TV history. But it seems he'd also developed a real affection for his character's wife, Maris, despite the fact she had never been seen on-screen.

By 1995, audiences had become well-acquainted with Niles' wife even though they'd never once seen her in the flesh.

The 12 Best Remakes & Revivals Of TV Shows From The 80s, 90s And 2000s
Image
The mere mention of a remake or revival has the potential to strike fear into the heart of any entertainment lover. It evokes nauseating flashbacks of brain-rotting shows like 2008's "Knight Rider" or 2021's "Gossip Girl." That said, it isn't always a bleach-in-the-eye situation. Yes, there are good revivals and remakes of TV shows from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.

While nostalgia often holds back people from seeing the forest through the trees, there are instances when the modernized version of a series proves to be better than the original. Take "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" as a prime example. The sitcom turned Will Smith into a household name and features a legendary theme song, but it isn't often credited among the best sitcoms of all time. By comparison, the reimagined "Bel-Air" flips the focus to the intercharacter drama rather than the situational laughs, coming out a much stronger and resonating program in the end.

Every Cheers Actor Who Appeared in Frasier
Image
In 1982, Cheers captivated millions of American households as it introduced them to the weekly mishaps of Sam Malone and the eccentric people in his Boston bar. During the third season of the series, Kelsey Grammer made his debut as Frasier Crane, a snooty and intelligent psychiatrist who soon became a regular at the bar. When the series ended in 1993, the fan-favorite shrink was given his own spin-off series, which followed him back to his hometown of Seattle.

Where Cheers had been a series that revolved around relatable problems of typical working men and women, Frasier instead highlighted the eccentricities and elitism of Crane. Alongside his equally snobby brother, Niles, the series followed Frasier as he clashed with his working class retired cop father, Martin, and navigated the world of Seattle alongside more grounded friends. Naturally, some of his old friends from Boston made appearances throughout the series, reminding fans of Frasier's beginnings.

Peri Gilpin Holds a 31-Year Frasier Universe Record That May Never Be Broken
Image
Few sitcoms have the same flavor as Frasier. Carried on the talented backs of David Hyde Pierce and Kelsey Grammer, the Seattle-set comedy entranced audiences with a unique blend of timeless humor and cerebral witticisms. Addi Frasier’s core cast was decidedly masculine. At their luxurious apartment, Frasier and Niles often bickered with their father, Martin Crane (John Mahoney). The only consistent feminine presence in the Crane household was Martin’s live-in caretaker, Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves). The next most important female role would be Frasier’s radio producer, Roz Doyle. There were other feminine influences, but only one of the show’s actresses played more than one role in the larger Cheers continuity.

In 1993, Peri Gilpin appeared as Holly Matheson in Cheers. This seemingly minor one-off part would ultimately propel her to superstardom, as she went on to star as Frasier’s radio producer, Roz Doyle, in Frasier. By...

Frasier's Peri Gilpin Landed Roz After Playing Another Character In The Universe
Image
In 1993, "Cheers" wrapped up after 11 seasons. That same year "Frasier" debuted, and ran for another 11 seasons until 2004. Almost 20 years after that, star Kelsey Grammer led a revival of the beloved sitcom that saw Dr. Crane relocate from Seattle to Boston, the city in which he first appeared some 40 years prior, during the third season of "Cheers."

When you factor in Frasier's 1992 guest appearance on another show set in the "Cheers" universe, "Wings," you have a character who has been played by the same actor since his debut across four separate series and four decades. That's pretty impressive, regardless of whether season one of the "Frasier" revival felt like a series that should have been a one-off special. The only character to match Frasier's four-show record is Bebe Neuwirth's Lilith Sternin, who returned for the "Frasier" revival and secured her place within sitcom history as a result.

But there is...

Frasier Once Broke This 69-Year-Old Western's Most Impressive Record
Image
It may be hard to remember all these years later, but NBC's Frasier was so popular during its first airing that, throughout all 11 seasons, the series' primary cast remained completely unchanged, which is nigh unheard of in the world of television (especially these days). By the time the series ended in 2004, that longevity had earned the show's lead, Kelsey Grammer, an incredibly impressive record that only one other person in the history of show business had accomplished to that point.

In 1955, televisions all across America continually tuned into one incredibly popular Western: Gunsmoke. Set in the town of Dodge City, Kansas, in the late 19th century, the series brought to life the dramatic excitement involved in settling the American West through the eyes of its central lawman, Marshal Matt Dillon, played by James Arness. Nominated for 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, Gunsmoke also earned its lead star a unique recognition that...

The Real Reason Frasier Is Set in Seattle (& Why the Revival Went Back to Boston)
Image
In todays world, when a beloved TV show ends, the idea of making a spin-off often feels almost obvious. But back when sitcoms were the biggest thing on the airwaves, spin-offs were much more of a gamble. How do you capture the magic of the original while building something fresh? This was the conundrum faced by Kelsey Grammer and the creators of Frasier after the Cheers finale. Grammer initially wasnt interested in reprising his role as Dr. Frasier Crane. Of course, audiences know today that he ended up returning to the character that he still performs today in the aptly named Frasier. Many consider the original run to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. But why was there hesitancy in the initial stages?

The original pitch was not a Cheers spin-off at all, but actually Grammer taking on a Michael Forbes-like wealthy paraplegic publisher having difficulty living with his street-smart nurse.

How Frasier's Dead Dad Was Retconned Back to Life
Image
Quick Links Was Frasier's Dad Dead in Cheers? How Was Martin Crane Retconned Back to Life on Frasier? How Has John Mahoney's Passing Been Mentioned in the Frasier Reboot?

In many ways, Frasier Crane's contentious relationship with his family not just his brother, Niles, but also his father, Martin was the entire foundation of Frasier's premise. Sure, his radio show at Kacl and his many, many romantic relationships throughout the years provided ample comedic fodder as well, but at the end of the day, Frasier was always a show built on family. That's why it's always surprising to remember that prior to the very first episode of Frasier airing on NBC, the character of Martin Crane had already "died."

For those of you who are unaware (or maybe have just forgotten), Frasier Crane's character originated not from his own TV show but from the hit sitcom Cheers. During one...

Why Kelsey Grammer Didn't Want Jane Leeves in Frasier (& Who Almost Played Daphne Instead)
Image
Quick Links Daphne Was Originally a Latina Housekeeper One Actress Got Too Big for Her Boots Jane Leeves Impressed a Very Stubborn Kelsey Grammar

Frasier is more than just a spin-off of the hit sitcom Cheers; it's a celebration of intellect and comedy. Though the show is best known for its pretentious titular character, fans immediately fell in love with the surrounding cast. As such, it was Frasier's friends and family that helped to keep this show grounded and ensured that it still maintained some of Cheers' middle-class gags.

Daphne Moon is a premium example of a secondary character. Though she starts off as a humble Pt, she soon becomes part of the furniture and later develops a loving relationship with Frasier's little brother, Niles. As such, many fans believe that without her, the sitcom would just be an amalgamation of pompous references with no actual development. Yet, it seems...

Frasier Producers Reveal the Spot-On Reason Why the Reboot Will 'Never Be the Original'
Image
While not a carbon copy of its predecessor, the Frasier reboot continues to carry the legacy of the Emmy-winning original series. However, the revival series' producers insist that no matter how much the updated show tries to build that legacy, it will "never" match the Og version for various reasons.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris delved into the Frasier reboot so far and why it was important to re-establish connections with the original series during Season 2, particularly during Episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane." While he was "excited" to bring back Og characters for the Seattle return episode, which saw Kelsey Grammer's eponymous protagonist bid one last goodbye to Kacl, Cristalli said there's a "balancing act" that's done to ensure the reboot isn't living off nostalgia and relying on the original show.

It's a Sad Week for Frasier Fans
Image
It's a sad week for Frasier fans as Season 2 of the revival series came to an end with Episode 10, "Father Christmas." The show has not been officially picked up for a third outing.

Frasier is essentially a sequel to the 1993 sitcom of the same name, which allowed Kelsey Grammer's Cheers character to leave the confines of the famous Boston bar behind. The original show followed the psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he returned to his hometown of Seattle to pursue a career in talk radio. He also reconnects with his father, Martin (John Mahoney), a retired cop, and his younger brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce), who is also a psychiatrist.

Why An Original Frasier Cast Member Won't Return For The Revival
Image
After two seasons of the "Frasier" revival series, the show still can't shake the feeling that had it managed to assemble the surviving cast from the original series, it would be much better. That's not to say the new series is as bad as some reviewers have made out, but there's no doubt "Frasier" 2024 just feels odd without the original gang.

There's more to this feeling than the lack of the original ensemble, though. A "Frasier" revival just felt a bit off from the moment it was announced. Aside from the fact Kelsey Grammer was saying not-so-modest things about his character being the key to "Frasier," (and overlooking the contributions of the outstanding ensemble in the process), there was the fact that the actor had clearly been struggling career-wise before rebooting his beloved '90s sitcom — the truly abject "Money Plane," in which Grammer put together an airborne heist being one rather lamentable example.

Frasier's Latest Christmas Episode Gives Kelsey Grammer Another Chance To Activate The Waterworks
Image
Kelsey Grammer has been crying quite a bit of late. He cried prior to the launch of the "Frasier" revival. He cried during the production of the "Frasier" revival. And he teared up during the eighth episode of season 2, where Frasier returns to Seattle in what was ultimately a missed opportunity for the series. In the episode, as the good doctor prepares to deliver his famous "I'm listening" catchphrase while sitting at the very desk from which he hosted his talk radio show for 11 years, Frasier — and therefore Grammer — is clearly emotional, and rightly so.

The actor being perpetually on the verge of tears is understandable. Frasier is a character he has played since 1984 when he first appeared on "Cheers." As such, Grammer has portrayed the lovable psychiatrist across four decades and three separate series. What's more, the character literally gave Grammer a career, so you can imagine that the...

Wendie Malick Can Only Stand Tall

NBC’s long-running hit sitcom Night Court revolved around the idiosyncratic cases argued in its titular location, and the lovable weirdos who worked there — none weirder than youthful judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), who never let his work on the bench interfere with his true passion: close-up magic.

The sequel series, which premiered last year, doesn’t stray too far from the original. Once again, the presiding Night Court judge is young, quirky and optimistic about most people she meets. She’s also a Judge Stone — Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch), Harry’s daughter. She’s exactly the kind of judge who would eagerly sign up for a program called Operation Second Chance, which hires formerly incarcerated people. And since original prosecutor Olivia Moore (India de Beaufort) has departed since the Season Two finale, Abby’s decided to fill the vacancy with Julianne, whose record for (among other crimes) arson has recently been expunged.

One Frasier Episode Was Seemingly Banned From Airing In The United Kingdom
Image
"Frasier" is one of those shows that's so inoffensive and comforting that it's strange to think an episode could be banned from airing. The original show, which ran from 1993 to 2004, followed Kelsey Grammer's fussy yet lovable psychiatrist as he hosted a talk radio show in his native Seattle. But the series was really about Frasier and his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) reconnecting with their blue collar father, Martin (the late John Mahoney) — there's a reason, after all, that Frasier, Niles, and Martin are the only characters appear in all 263 episodes of "Frasier." While the series was a sitcom, then, it had a lot more depth to it than others of its kind.

Right from the off, the show established this formula of humor and heart. The "Frasier" pilot — an episode that Hyde Pierce thought was "terrible" at first — saw Martin move in with his son, only for the...

The 5 Worst Episodes Of Frasier, Ranked
Image
One of the most remarkable things about "Frasier" is its consistency. When the "Frasier" pilot aired back in 1993, Niles actor David Hyde Pierce thought the episode was "terrible" at first. Oh, how wrong he was. The pilot, entitled "The Good Son," remains an exceptional debut episode in TV history, simply because all the characters arrived fully formed, their dynamics dialed in and their chemistry immediately evident. The writing was as good as it ever got, too, and most importantly, the show demonstrated its commitment to an underlying moral depth right from the off, with Frasier and his father clashing initially before making up in a touching moment that saw John Mahoney's Martin Crane calling into his son's radio show to smooth things over.

Not content with debuting a show that appeared to have been running like clockwork for years, "Frasier" writers continued to pump out quality over the ensuing 11 seasons.

Frasier Season 2 Officially Ends The Original Series 20 Years After It Went Off The Air
Image
Warning! Spoiler ahead for Frasier season 2, episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane."The Frasier reboot season 2 brings Frasier Crane back home to Seattle, and in the process, it wraps up the original series 20 years after it ended its run. While Cheers capped off its 11-year run on NBC in 1993, the network found a way to continue capitalizing on the success of the Boston-set sitcom. Admittedly, giving Kelsey Grammer's standout but still supporting character his own show was risky, considering the failure of Rhea Pearlman's The Tortellis. That said, the original Frasier only took 1 episode to prove its quality, which it maintained throughout its run.

Grammer was and continues to be great as the elitist but with a heart of gold Frasier Crane. That said, the original Cheers spinoff couldn't have succeeded without the rest of the cast. The old Frasier had to create a couple of plot holes to...

The Only Frasier Actors To Appear In Every Episode Of The Original Series
Image
Any fan of "Frasier" will know that while the titular doctor is the star of the show, the series itself would have been nothing without its ensemble. The beloved sitcom ran from 1993 to 2004 and managed to sustain its quality throughout — a rarity for any show, but certainly for sitcoms of the era if you consider that even "Friends" was cranking out some of its worst episodes by its tenth and final season.

A big part of what gave "Frasier" its durability was its ensemble, which comprised not only multiple other main characters, but also an entire world of supporting and guest characters that made Dr. Crane's world feel like a real, living place. Of course, the main cast itself was most crucial to this aspect of the series, with John Mahoney's Crane patriarch, Martin, and David Hyde Pierce's Niles, the equally fastidious yet lovable brother of Frasier, being the most integral.

Frasier Season 2, Episode 8 Review: Frasier's Return to Seattle Is Just Enough
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Frasier Season 2, Episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane," now streaming on Paramount+.

Frasier Season 2, Episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane," is the episode fans have been waiting for. Not just since news of Frasier Crane's return to Seattle was publicized back in July 2024, but since the Frasier revival ever premiered. Old fans and new want to see the Paramount+ show bridge the gap between Seattle and Boston, and many people want to watch more of the original cast. Writer Stephen Lloyd serves up a script that may not live up to those sky-high expectations, but provides enough nostalgia to be satisfying.

"Thank You, Dr. Crane" explains the trip to Seattle by saying that Frasier has agreed to return to Kacl for a day as part of a tribute piece Roz is doing. Lloyd doesn't hinge his script on fan service; it's not just about talking up...

Ronee, Martin Crane's Wife, Not Returning For Frasier's Reboot Makes One Moment Much More Important
Image
Its looking like Martin Cranes wife Ronee wont be returning in the Frasier reboot, so the revival shows only reference to her suddenly carries a lot more weight. In the original series, Ronee was introduced as a Seattle lounge singer and Frasiers childhood babysitter. Although Frasier initially tried to woo her, she ended up entering a romantic relationship with Frasiers dad. Ronee and Martin eventually got married in the Frasier finale season 11, episodes 23 and 24, Goodnight, Seattle giving Martin the happy ending he always deserved.

Despite being mentioned, Ronee still has yet to reappear in the reboot. Ronees actor, Wendie Malick, was asked about her potential Frasier return, but she cast doubt on reprising her role. Malick said that it wouldnt feel right to return for the reboot, because she had a deep connection to John Mahoney on the original series. She wouldnt want to play a widowed Ronee without Martin at her side.

Original Frasier Star Explains Why It Wouldn't "Feel Right" To Return For Paramount+ Revival
Image
An original Frasier star explains why it wouldn't "feel right" to return for the Paramount+ revival. A spin-off of Cheers, the sitcom originally aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004, following Kesley Grammer's titular psychiatrist as he returns to his hometown of Seattle, where he reconnects with his father, Martin (John Mahoney). The Paramount+ revival, which premiered in 2023, brings Frasier back to Boston and while it follows a mostly new cast of characters, does feature the return of some original stars, such as Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle.

Now, another original Frasier star has addressed a potential return in the Paramount+ revival. Talking to TV Insider promoting Apple TV's Shrinking season 2, Wendie Malick said it wouldn't "feel right" to return for the Paramount+ revival without John Mahoney, who passed away in 2018. 'I Just Don't Think It Would Feel Right': Og Frasier Star Explains Turning Down the Reboot
Image
While the Frasier reboot is slowly but surely bringing back some familiar faces from the original show, one actor casts doubt on a potential appearance in the updated sitcom. Og series actor Wendie Malick believes it wouldn't "feel right" to feature without one of its most beloved stars.

Speaking with TV Insider, Malick, who played the late John Mahoney's on-screen love interest throughout the original Frasier's 11-season run, admits her connection with him makes it hard to consider a return. "Its sort of like when people ask me about Just Shoot Me. Without George Segal, I just dont think it would feel right. I had such a connection to John Mahoney playing his love interest and finally marrying him that Im not sure that I want to revisit that," Malicl said.

Wendie Malick Says It Wouldn’t ‘Feel Right’ to Return to ‘Frasier’ Without John Mahoney
Image
The Frasier revival has brought back stars from the original series in each of its seasons (the second is currently airing), but Wendie Malick doesn’t see herself as being one of them in the future. Malick had a recurring guest-star role as Ronee Lawrence in the original Frasier. Ronee used to be Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Niles’ (David Hyde Pierce) babysitter, and she struck up a romance later in life with Frasier and Niles’ dad, Martin Crane, played by the late John Mahoney, who died in 2018. The characters ended up getting married in the Frasier series finale that aired in 2004, regarded as one of the show’s best episodes and one of the best sitcom finales ever. TV Insider connected with Malick, who can currently be seen in the second season of Shrinking on Apple TV+, and the sitcom legend tells us that without Mahoney, it doesn’t “feel...

Kelsey Grammer's Wants to Do a Specific Number of Frasier Episodes
Image
Kelsey Grammer loves portraying Dr. Frasier Crane... so much so, that he hopes to play the character for "another 100 episodes at least." Grammer began portraying the iconic character in 1984 when he appeared on Cheers as a love interest to Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). Grammer remained on the sitcom until its concluding Season 11 in 1993, but Frasier wouldn't be gone for long. Months after Cheers wrapped, Grammer was back as Dr. Crane, this time on Frasier, which saw his character back in his native Seattle, working as a radio psychiatrist and surrounded by a new, and equally incredible, cast of characters.

Nearly two decades later, Grammer was back in Dr. Crane's (more relaxed) shoes for Paramount+'s reboot. The revival is now in its second season, and Grammer hopes it runs for many more. During an interview with the Toronto Sun, he shared:

"I want to do another 100 episodes at least.

There's No Hope For Fixing The Frasier Reboot's Cheers Problem After Surprising Remake Announcement
Image
Given the recent Cheers remake announcement, there really seems to be no hope for the Frasier reboot's biggest Cheers-related problem. Despite taking place in Boston, Massachusetts, which also served as the setting for Cheers, Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) has yet to run into any of his old pals in the Frasier revival. For the most part, the Frasier reboot's cast of characters also skirts around the original show's ensemble, bringing in only a few familiar faces. In the Frasier season 1 finale, Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) showed up, and, before her, Frasier's ex-wife, Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth), guest starred.

Since the reboot isn't set in Seattle, Boston provides a somewhat-fresh slate for the post-Frasier series finale revival. However, it's still hard to overlook the fact that Cheers was set in Boston. Not only did Frasier attend Harvard University and open his first psychiatric practice in Boston, but he pretty religiously grabbed drinks at Cheers' blue-collar dive bar.

'This Is What I'm Meant to Do': Kelsey Grammer Reveals Why Tragedy and Family Motivate Him to Play Frasier

Thanks to his feature in the ongoing Frasier reboot, Kelsey Grammer celebrates playing Dr. Frasier Crane for the better part of four decades, spanning its parent series, Cheers, and the original Emmy-winning sitcom. According to Grammer, Frasier is more than a role for him, with tragedy and family being his biggest motivating factors to continue playing the beloved character.

Speaking on CBC's Q with Tom Power podcast, Grammer opened up on why starring in Frasier means so much to him and why he's still driven to portray Dr. Crane all these years later. The Emmy-winning character found a family in his Frasier castmates after tragic fates met many of his loved ones, including his father's murder, the rape and murder of his sister and the death of two half-brothers in a scuba diving accident before his acting career took off.
