Exclusive: As a sequel to Dirty Dancing is in the works, the resort that inspired the original is getting its own small-screen treatment.

A scripted series set at Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel, which inspired the movie as well as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is in the works from Alan Zweibel, an original writer on Saturday Night Live and co-creator of It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, and Dr. Ruth Show producer Harris F.B. Salomon.

It is the latest project set at the Borscht Belt resort in upstate New York after a documentary from Bungalow Media + Entertainment.

It's July, and baseball season is in full swing, with the All-Star Game looming on the horizon. Combine that with the Fourth of July weekend, and viewers across America have decided that it's the perfect time to catch The Sandlot. The coming-of-age baseball classic is climbing up the streaming standings this week, and is currently the fifth-most-popular streaming movie on Disney+.

Part of a wave of baseball comedies that hit in the wake of the 1989 hit Major League – including Angels in the Outfield, Little Big League, and Rookie of the Year – The Sandlot was written, directed, and narrated by David Mickey Evans. It was the most successful of the lot, grossing $34 million Usd, and was also well-reviewed, currently holding a 66% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In a retrospective review, Collider's Chase Hutchinson calls it "tightly written and sharply funny as it paints a portrait of youth that is sentimental without ever being superficial.

The classic sports adventure movie, The Sandlot,is currently trending on streaming an astonishing 32 years after it was released. The Sandlot is an American coming-of-age sports comedy which was co-written, directed, and narrated by David Mickey Evans. The 1993 movie followed Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) as he befriends a group of young baseball players during the summer of 1962.

The great baseball movie grossed $34.3 million at the box office worldwide, and starred Denis Leary and James Earl Jones in minor roles. Despite the movie’s somewhat indie premise, The Sandlot has become a bit of a cult hit over the years, with many looking back on it fondly, cementing its status as one of the best teen summer movies.

As the saying goes, No Good Deed goes unpunished. Amid a day when the cancellation axe has already cut down the comedic murder-mystery The Residence and the medical procedural Pulse, Netflix is also hitting the pause button on its darkly comedic anthology series, according to Deadline. The show, which featured a bevy of talent led by Lisa Kudrow and Linda Cardellini, has been waiting for an update since its first season dropped back in December, and it was becoming clear that the news would not be good when it arrived. Fortunately, there is a ray of hope as, while there are currently no plans for a sophomore outing, sources have said that a second season is possible in the future with a new cast and an entirely new story.

Part of the reason for the indefinite pause likely came down to the lukewarm reception to the series from audiences. Although...

No Good Deed won’t be burying any more secrets at Netflix — for now, at least.

The streaming service has no plans for a Season 2, though there is a theoretical possibility that it could continue down the road as an anthology with a new cast, per our sister site Deadline. TVLine has reached out to Netflix for comment.

Lisa Kudrow and HBO aren’t letting the Friends star’s cult comedy go without a proper goodbye, and so it is that The Comeback is getting revived for a third and final season. The series, created by Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its launch earlier this month, making today’s news monumental for fans. The revival speaks to the show’s lasting appeal, Kudrow’s endearing screen presence, and HBO’s desire to bring a familiar face back for more much-needed laughs.

The third and final season of The Comeback heads to production this summer for a 2026 HBO and HBO Max debut. In The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish, an ex-a-list celebrity attempting to rekindle the flame of her once prominent acting career with nothing but a camera crew and some determination.

Meet the Makers: Going Dutch and Animal Control

There are plenty of similarities to be found between Fox’s two live-action comedies, Joel McHale’s “Animal Control” and Denis Leary’s “Going Dutch.” Both are single-camera workplace comedies with characters in uniform: A quirky group of animal control workers in Seattle on “Animal Control,” and a quirky group of U.S. Army soldiers stationed on a tiny Netherlands base on “Going Dutch.” Making things even more personal, McHale’s “Community” co-star Danny Pudi now stars opposite Leary on “Going Dutch.”

So how about a crossover inside the Fox comedyverse? “It makes perfect sense,” Leary said during the Variety FYC TV Fest. “The guys who are the creators of ‘Animal Control’ are guys I’ve worked with before. Fox Entertainment’s upfront presentation to advertisers was a star-studded affair that began with Jamie Foxx mocking Elon Musk and President Donald Trump, and ended with Joel McHale popping a bottle of champagne with a prop knife in Gordon Ramsay’s honor.

At one point in between, Tom Brady flubbed a stunt pass to Rob Gronkowski so bad, the ball landed among the Madison Avenue execs. (That was not long after Gronkowski took a shot at his and Brady’s 73-year-old former coach Bill Belichick for dating 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.)

Held Monday at the Manhattan Center in New York, the event showcasing Fox broadcast network’s 2025-2026 schedule — as well as programming across ad-supported streamer Tubi, Fox Sports and Fox News — kicked off with some jokes from “Beat Shazam” host Foxx.

“It’s been a hectic few weeks for me,” the actor said. “But truly I wanted to be here.

The Fox fall 2025 schedule was announced today during the network’s Upfront Presentation at the Manhattan Center in New York. Fox is bringing back both Animal Control and Going Dutch for the 2025-2026 primetime season. The network confirmed they’ve renewed Animal Control starring Joel McHale for season four, and Going Dutch with Denis Leary will return for season two.

This included a number of seasons produced under strict Covid protocols with the music competition guessing game, which has aired one season at the start of the year and one in the fall, never missing a run throughout the pandemic.

However, Deadline understands that this is about to change with the show eschewing its traditional fall 2025 season and planning to return for Season 14 in January.

The news comes as the Season 13 finale is set to air tonight. This season has featured the likes of Cedric the Entertainer, Oscar De La Hoya, Aubrey O’Day, Scheana Shay, Flavor Flav, James Van Der Beek, Candace Cameron Bure, Method Man, Erika Jayne, Matthew Lawrence and Edwin McCain. Four celebrities have yet to be unmasked – those performing as Boogie Woogie, Coral, Mad Scientist Monster and Pearl.

Fox has renewed both of its workplace comedy series – Animal Control, starring Emmy Award nominee Joel McHale, and Going Dutch, starring Emmy Award nominee Denis Leary, for a fourth and second season, respectively, it was announced today by Michael Thorn, President, Fox Television Network. The single-camera shows will return in the 2025-2026 season.

Seattle's favorite Animal Control office won't be shutting down just yet. As expected, Fox has picked up its flagship live-action workplace comedy series starring Joel McHale for a fourth season, meaning more animal-based antics are to be had with Frank Shaw and his rag-tag team of fellow officers. The series has continued to be a hit both critically and in terms of ratings for the network, being sold to over 70 international territories and more than doubling its live + same-day ratings thanks to streaming on Hulu. It'll be back in time for the 2025-26 season, locking up Fox's comedy slate with the also-renewed Going Dutch.

Through three seasons, Animal Control has followed the jaded and cynical Frank (McHale) as he learns to embrace life as an animal control officer after being fired from the police force for trying to expose corruption in the department. Fortunately, he is almost supernaturally capable of understanding animals.

Going Dutch is returning for a second tour of duty. The freshman Fox sitcom has been renewed for a second season at the network. Deadline reports that both Going Dutch and its network stablemate, Animal Control, will be returning next season. The series' first season is now streaming on Hulu.

Deadline reports that although the Denis Leary-led series' ratings were not spectacular, the fact that the series is produced and owned by Fox may have played a part in the network's decision. Fox is also selling the series internationally; unlike many sitcoms, it is an international production, with a military base in Ireland standing in for Garrison Stroopsdorf, the fictional US Army base in Holland that serves as the show's primary setting. Additionally, Going Dutch and Animal Control are the only live-action sitcoms currently on Fox. This may also mean that Fox may not order any new half-hour comedies for the upcoming TV season.

Fox is sticking with laughs. The network has renewed its two live-action comedy series Animal Control and Going Dutch.

Animal Control, which stars Joel McHale, is returning for a fourth season, while Going Dutch starring Denis Leary returns for its second. Both single-camera shows, which are owned by Fox, will return in the 2025-26 season.

The renewal of Animal Control is not a surprise; the show remains Fox’s live-action comedy flagship and was the network’s first fully owned live-action series to break out. In addition, it has sold the show in more 70 international territories including in the UK to Channel 4, in Australia to Foxtel and Binge, in Canada to CBC and in New Zealand to Tvnz.

The network said that with in-season streaming on Hulu, it more than doubles its Live+Same Day ratings.

Vanity Fair has released the first new images from The Roses, the upcoming romantic comedy in which Cumberbatch stars alongside Olivia Colman and Kate McKinnon. The film is a reimagining of the 1989 classic comedy The War of the Roses, and it follows a couple whose marriage crumbles into a catastrophic and hilarious divorce. Denis Leary said authenticity to the military is as important as being funny on his new show Going Dutch. Leary plays Army Col. Patrick Quinn, who gets re-assigned to a base in the Netherlands after ranting against the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He and the base’s soldiers engage in comic hijinx, but they’re never making fun of the Army.

“I know we’re supposed to be funny but we’re also supposed to be soldiers,” Leary said. “We’re all dressed that way. Even if we’re just in the hair and makeup trailer, generally we’re in our uniforms. It’s a constant reminder.”

Fox veterans The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers have never really been on the bubble because first, they remain strong performers for the network, and secondly, due to the longer lead time needed in animation, they would always get an early renewal. That was taken to a new level this year as all three, along with American Dad!, returning to Fox after an 11-year run on TBS, have just been given four-year pickups, keeping the 20th TV Animation-produced comedies off the bubble list for the foreseeable future.

Also safe are the two Fox-owned animated comedies, Krapopolis and Grimsburg, which are not as strong in the ratings as the three long-timers but still bring eyeballs while also making money for the network via international and streaming sales. Sitcoms have a harder time than ever to really catch on to what the public wants.
