Former Vice President Al Gore's 2006 documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" helped a lot with opening people's eyes to the realities of climate change, to the point where even the Republican presidential candidate in 2008 campaigned on addressing the issue. It's rare for any documentary to have the reach this one did, especially one about a topic no one really loves to think about. Gore had his doubts about the project too, but a 2004 blockbuster helped assuage them.
"The Day After Tomorrow" producer Mark Gordon once recalled meeting Gore in 2007, after "An Inconvenient Truth" had become a massive hit, and hearing the former VP partially credit the 2004 movie for the doc's success. "Look, we made this documentary, and a number of people saw it," he remembered Gore telling him in a 2025 piece by The Hollywood Reporter. This post contains spoilers for the "Stargate" franchise.
In Roland Emmerich's "Stargate," we see an energy vortex created by the titular device rush out of the gate like a pressurized flood. On its return trajectory, it takes the shape of a whirlpool attached to a small trail. Dubbed "strudel" by Emmerich, this vortex effect was unique to this 1994 film, as every franchise title that came after (especially the 10-season Syfy series "Stargate Sg-1") opted for a slightly different visual effect to portray the same energy vortex.
If you've seen "Sg-1", you might remember the enduring image of a massive burst of energy rushing through the Stargate right before it's ready for intergalactic travel, taking on the appearance of a high-pressure water fountain. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) playfully refers to this unstable vortex as Kawoosh, as it forms as soon as the Stargate gears up, rushing through the rings and...

Christopher Judge's Teal'c was one of the most important characters in "Stargate Sg-1." Both the actor and his character's inclusion in the series were significant since neither had appeared in Roland Emmerich's 1994 "Stargate" movie, which kicked off the sprawling sci-fi franchise we know today. While "Sg-1" brought back some characters from the movie, the show also introduced new characters, most notably with Amanda Tapper's Samantha Carter and Judge's Teal'c. It's at least in part a testament to the actor's abilities, then, that the show managed to sustain itself outside of the Emmerich film, with both Tapper and Judge proving to be fan-favorite characters that stayed with the series until "Sg-1" was cancelled by the Sci-Fi Channel after ten seasons.
But Judge was integral to "Sg-1" in other ways, too. Though he never directed an "Sg-1" episode, he did write three: season 6's "The Changeling," season 7's "Birthright," and season 8's "Sacrifices.

Could one of the most iconic sci-fi shows of all time be coming back? The creator of Stargate sure hopes so!
Stargate has always been unique in that it’s the rare case of a TV franchise that’s become more memorable than the movie that inspired it. Indeed, mention Stargate, and most people will automatically think of the TV show and its spinoffs rather than the 1994 film.
Sadly, the franchise has been pretty dormant since Stargate Universe ended its short run in 2014. There have been numerous talks of a reboot or sequel, but nothing concrete yet. However, longtime writer and executive producer Brad Wright addressed the state of the franchise during a recent stage appearance at FedCon 33 in Bonn, Germany:
Yes, there probably will be another Stargate. No, I don’t know when. … These are smart people. They know that they don’t want to piss off the people...

In 1994, director Roland Emmerich unwittingly kicked off one of the most expansive and detailed sci-fi franchises of the last few decades with "Stargate." Though the movie was initially supposed to start a "Stargate" film trilogy, those plans were abandoned after the movie debuted, and instead we got multiple TV continuations and spin-offs -- most notably with "Stargate Sg-1," which picked up where Emmerich's movie had left off. Ever since, the "Stargate" franchise has continued to grow, comprising multiple TV series, direct-to-home-media movies, comic books, video games, and novels.
But back in 1994, such a sprawling saga must have seemed like a distant dream to Emmerich, who just wanted to tell a cool sci-fi story. "Stargate" was the result. The movie starred Kurt Russell as Army colonel Jack O'Neill, who, alongside archaeologist and Egyptologist Daniel Jackson (James Spader), leads a team of experts through the titular portal to an Egyptian-style alien world.

Despite the historical inaccuracies of Mel Gibson’s The Patriot, this American Revolutionary War epic is a hit on streaming a quarter of a century later. Coming from director Roland Emmerich, The Patriot tells the story of an American colonist (Gibson) who opposed the war and gets swept up in the conflict after his son is murdered by a British officer.
While The Patriot was the subject of some controversy upon release for fictionalizing aspects of the true historical account, this has not stopped it from surging the streaming charts in 2025. As a hit on Paramount+, it seems audiences have once again connected with this story of personal vengeance, sacrifice, and rebellion, even if the movie takes some historical liberties.

Dennis Quaid wasn’t kidding when he called The Day After Tomorrow “the mother of all disaster movies.” Two decades after it first melted box office records, Roland Emmerich’s climate-catastrophe epic is taking the U.S. by storm once again — this time on Hulu. Originally released in 2004, The Day After Tomorrow starred Quaid as climatologist Jack Hall and a young Jake Gyllenhaal as his son Sam. The story? An extreme take on climate change, where melting polar ice triggers a new Ice Age that sweeps the planet with superstorms, flash freezes, and tidal waves the size of Manhattan skyscrapers. Emmerich and screenwriter Jeffrey Nachmanoff didn’t hold back — and neither did audiences.
With a budget of $125 million, the film went on to earn an earth-shaking $555 million globally, including $186 million from U.S. theaters and a further $369 million overseas. The Memorial Day weekend opening alone hauled in $68.7 million, nearly 37% of its final domestic tally.

Liam Neeson is one of the best Hollywood talents of his generation, proving an accomplished action star, dramatic lead, and an undeniable funny-man. Nominated for just one Academy Award in his career, for his titular role in Steven Spielberg's horrifying epic Schindler's List, Neeson is worthy of as much praise as he can get, with the Northern Irish actor showing no signs of slowing down as he prepares to debut his take on the iconic Frank Drebin's son in the upcoming The Naked Gun.
Ahead of the Akiva Schaffer movie's release on August 1, one of Neeson's more forgotten entries in a filmography stacked with memorable titles has found unlikely streaming success in the U.S. As of July 1, the fantasy flick High Spirits, which was released several years before Neeson became a household name, is officially one of the ten most-streamed movies in the U.S. on streaming site Tubi.

Comedy was an enormously successful genre during the noughties. From biting political satires like Armando Iannucci's 2009 black comedy In the Loopto decade-defining comedies like the painfully relatableSuperbad, by 2010, many of us had burned out as the comedy formula was fine-tuned, and most releases felt uninventive. Alas, that left many comedies from earlier in the previous decade to go severely underrated, even ones with casts stacked with high-profile names.
That is the fate that befell You Again, the 2010 revenge comedy starring Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Bell, and Betty White. Directed by Andy Flickman, the movie stars Bell's Marni, who "is shocked to learn that her brother is marrying her school bully from the past. When she tries to expose her, things do not go as planned." Known to many as the face of the Scary Movie franchise, Anna Faris has had a wonderful career, mostly within the realm of comedy. From The Hot Chick to recently being reported as part of the voice cast of the upcoming Toy Story 5, Faris has a filmography packed with highlights. One of her more forgotten efforts, however, came in the 2018 romantic comedy Overboard, which she starred in alongside Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez, John Hannah, Swoosie Kurtz, and Mel Rodriguez.
Released to little fanfare, the film failed to capture the hearts and minds of critics and audiences, as evidenced by a disappointing 24% from critics and 54% from general audiences on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Written by Leslie Dixon, Bob Fisher, and Rob Greenberg, with the latter also directing the movie, which stands as his only directorial effort to date, Overboard follows working-class single mother Kate's (Faris) frustration at being fired by a selfish yacht owner,...

Although their paths may not have crossed in the MCU (not yet anyway), Deadpool & Wolverine’s Channing Tatum and Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jamie Foxx once put it all on the line in a gritty action thriller. Pressing the gas pedal down to the floor and steering subscribers directly into the summer blockbuster season, Netflix is officially the new home of White House Down. Though perhaps overshadowed by other similar blockbusters of the time, like the Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman-led Olympus Has Fallen, the 2013 title has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years thanks to its appearance on streaming platforms, bringing the high-octane story to an entirely new set of eyes.

The Day After Tomorrow, the disaster movie of 2004 starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has landed a new streaming home. Starting on July 1, Hulu subscribers can stream the thriller directed by Roland Emmerich, and considered by many to be one of the best movies by the director of both Independence Day movies, Anonymous and White House Down.
The film is not a direct adaptation, but inspired by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber's book The Coming Global Superstorm, a fictional book that explores the possibility of climate change producing a sudden worldwide apocalypse. It was adapted by Emmerich himself, who co-wrote the film with Jeffrey Nachmanoff. The Patriot is having a moment — again. Roland Emmerich’s Revolutionary War blockbuster, which originally hit theatres in 2000, is now #1 on Paramount+ in the U.S., marking a surprise streaming resurgence just in time for Independence Day. Starring Mel Gibson and a then-rising Heath Ledger, the film remains one of the most visually bombastic (and emotionally rousing) entries in the historical epic genre. And for Gibson, it was more than just another action role — it was personal. “Simply put: the story,” Gibson told Mohican Press back in 2000. “It’s a brave film about an even braver and courageous band of individuals.”
Directed by Independence Day filmmaker Roland Emmerich, The Patriot follows Gibson’s fictional Benjamin Martin — a battle-scarred widower and farmer who reluctantly joins the American Revolution after tragedy strikes his family. The zombie movie is as popular as ever right now, thanks to Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Years Later, albeit with the franchise not technically featuring any zombies. With this in mind, many are finishing their watch of the first of an upcoming trilogy, and looking into the streaming archives for some more undead, brain-eating fun. In doing so, it seems some are stumbling across a forgotten zombie comedy from ten years ago, that stars both The Office's Rainn Wilson and The Lord of the Rings icon, Elijah Wood.

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Starship Mine", the U.S.S. Enterprise has to undergo a massive, shipwide maintenance routine that requires every single living being -- including the plants -- to be cleared off the ship. It seems that, in its many merry adventures, the Enterprise has taken on a great deal of toxic particles that need to be cleared from the ship's systems. The best way to do this is to run a slow-moving wall of concentrated baryon particles through the entire starship. The field is lethal to organic materials, so everyone has to get off the Enterprise immediately. It's the sci-fi equivalent of getting one's house tented for termites.
This leaves the Enterprise's senior staff in the care of one Commander Calvin Hutchinson (David Spielberg), who aims to pass the time with an extended reception on the planet below. A chatterbox of the highest order,...

America declared independence from Great Britain when the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Congress debated, revised, and edited the document on July 2-3, meaning America declared independence from the greatest empire in world history more quickly than your manager responds to emails. Good thing the Founding Fathers weren't on Zoom, right?

It seems very long ago, but there was a time when Roland Emmerich wasn’t a household name. The name is synonymous with the destruction of Earth now, and always will be, but go back a few decades and he was just another working director who made mid-budget movies that most people don’t feel very passionately about. Making Contact? Moon 44? Okay, we’ll give some love to 1992’s Universal Soldier only because it still sorta rocks, but I bet when you first saw it you didn’t think much about who made it. Same for the 1994 sci-fi flick Stargate, a title most of us still probably associate with the TV spinoffs than the actual movie. So during the beginning of 1996, when the movie of the summer looked to be an epic alien invasion spectacle called Independence Day, the legion of us who were excited were thinking, “This looks awesome…...

Following his reprisal of Eric Foreman in the long-awaited sequel seriesThat '90s Show, the brilliant Topher Grace set his sights on a new project, made in the shadow of the Western genre's recent renaissance. That series was The Waterfront, created by Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson, which, like many others, has ridden the coattails of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and found fair success on streaming.

On this day in 1996, as America geared up to celebrate the upcoming 4th of July, the alien invasion of Earth began. A massive mothership arrived in the planet's orbit and unleashed saucers to major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C., causing destruction that would kill millions. It was only through the efforts of a disparate group of survivors, including the President of the United States, Thomas Whitmore, technician David Levinson, U.S. Marine Captain Steven Hiller, and the late former Air Force pilot Russell Casse, among others, that the world would eventually be saved. At least, that's the case in the movie Independence Day from Roland Emmerich. However, an account on X (formerly Twitter) called ID4 in Real Time is imagining how those events would be conveyed over social media, and, shockingly, some people are falling for it.

That’s right—Independence Day is back in action, climbing all the way to #1 on Tubi’s streaming chart and sitting comfortably at #5 on Hulu heading into this weekend’s holiday. Originally released in 1996, Roland Emmerich’s explosive alien invasion flick has become something of a summer tradition—and now, it's found a brand-new audience thanks to its recent resurgence on free streaming.

Fans of kaiju movies are always on the lookout for new giant monster movies to make their day, and fortunately, this is a great time to follow this genre. Apart from Japan's steady output of amazing films like Takashi Yamazaki's sublime "Godzilla Minus One," other countries have been upping their game considerably in the last decades. Hollywood has long since recovered from Roland Emmerich's 1998 "Godzilla," which was so awful that Toho's "Godzilla: Final Wars" gave its hated monster a humiliating second death in a fight against the real Godzilla. Between Matt Reeves' "Cloverfield," Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim," and Legendary Pictures' ongoing MonsterVerse franchise, Tinseltown has been establishing itself as a reliable hotspot of kaiju entertainment, and in 2006, Korean director luminary Bong Joon Ho of "Parasite" and "Snowpiercer" fame put his own spin on the theme with one of the greatest monster movies ever made, "The Host.

When it came time to turn Roland Emmerich's 1994 blockbuster "Stargate" into a TV series, "Stargate Sg-1" creators Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner were faced with recasting every character. Kurt Russell certainly wasn't going to come back as Jack O'Neill, the leader of the intrepid Stargate team, and neither was James Spader as Egyptologist and linguist Daniel Jackson. That meant Wright and Glassner had to start from square one when it came to the cast of their new show — though five actors from the movie actually did come back for one of the three main "Stargate" shows that sprang up in the wake of Emmerich's film. None of them, however, were main cast members.
After securing "Macgyver" star Richard Dean Anderson for the role of O'Neill, Wright and Glassner were evidently impressed with how well Canadian actor Michael Shanks could imitate James Spader, leading them to cast him in the role of Jackson.

It seems as though movie fans in the U.S. are gearing up for the July 4 holiday by watching a classic sci-fi movie that spawned a sequel two decades later. As of July 29, Will Smith’s alien epic Independence Dayis climbing the streaming charts nearly three decades after its theatrical release. According to FlixPatrol, Independence Day has now reached the No. 12 spot among all movies streaming on Hulu as of July 29.
The Roland Emmerich-directed movie is likely to continue to climb the streaming charts as July 4 approaches. Released in 1996 and co-written by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, Independence Day dominated the box office that summer, taking in $817 million against a budget of $75 million.

What makes a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (Mmorpg) stand out? For starters, it facilitates a dynamic sandbox environment for genres that require intricate world-building (such as fantasy or sci-fi), while bringing social interaction to the forefront. While standard multiplayer games have a limited scope of player-to-player interaction, MMORPGs can accommodate a gigantic playerbase, who need to interact with the in-game world at all times to progress. There's a reason why genre staples like "World of Warcraft" or "Final Fantasy Xiv Online" continue to attract new players despite sparking controversy. These online spaces also foster positive community bonding and offer a sense of comfort via their inherent longevity.

Hollywood loves a winner. In a landscape where some of the most marketable stories are underdogs overcoming the odds, the town still prefers seeing Goliath emerge victorious over and over again. In some cases, a presumed smash puts the cart before the horse, and the people making decisions up top have to recalibrate what their expectations are, especially when they make outsized bets on a property they believed to be a sure thing. "2012" was a very successful addition to the burgeoning portfolio of disaster movies from Roland Emmerich, and the film was a big feather in the cap of Sony Pictures for the year 2009 — a year that might as well be in another universe for how different that theater environment is compared to the one we currently occupy.

It's a testament to the talents of everyone involved in "Stargate Sg-1" that it lasted for ten whole seasons before being cancelled by the Sci-Fi Channel (now SyFy). After all, there was no guarantee that just because Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie was a solid box office success, audiences would respond to a continuation series without Emmerich's involvement and which had lower production values and featured none of the central cast from the movie. Kurt Russell, who played Colonel Jack O'Neill in "Stargate," wasn't interested in "Sg-1." Neither was James Spader, who portrayed archaeologist Daniel Jackson in the movie.
You can imagine, then, that launching and maintaining a series under these conditions seemed like somewhat of a challenge. But showrunners Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner were confident enough that they could rise to it that they each independently pitched their version of a "Stargate" series to MGM Television, before being paired...

The year was 2000. Mel Gibson was at the height of his superstardom and definitely hadn't said any questionable things yet, Heath Ledger was poised to become Hollywood’s next heartthrob, and The Patriot was rolling into cinemas as a massive historical epic from Independence Day director Roland Emmerich. Now, 25 years later, the Revolutionary War saga is making its streaming debut on Paramount+ starting July 1 — and with it comes a look back at the major what-ifs surrounding one of its most memorable characters: the role that nearly went to Jude Law.
Before Jason Isaacs made audiences hiss in rage as the sadistic British officer Col. William Tavington, the part was this close to going to Law. That’s right — Law, hot off his Oscar-nominated turn as the devilishly charming Dickie Greenleaf in The Talented Mr. Ripley, was the original choice to face off against Gibson’s Benjamin Martin.

Actor Will Smith has given us some memorable movie characters: Agent J in Men in Black, post-apocalyptic survivor Robert Neville in I am a Legend, Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness, and his Oscar-winning turn as Richard Williams in King Richard. The man was considered a major box-office draw back in the 90s and is loved by his fans for showcasing a wide range on-screen. Now, just in time for the 4th of July, his iconic film Independence Day has found a new free home at Tubi.
The film, directed by Roland Emmerich, follows disparate groups of people: a geek, a pilot, the US President, and a group of ragtag survivors, who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a worldwide attack by a powerful extraterrestrial race with their advanced weaponry. With the other people of the world, they launch a counterattack on July 4—Independence Day in the United States.

Jason Isaacs and Mel Gibson faced off in Roland Emmerich’s 2000 historical war drama “The Patriot,” and their antagonistic relationship on screen apparently took shape in real life after Gibson’s infamous 2006 arrest, which included the actor making comments disparaging Jewish people. Isaacs called Gibson’s tirade an “antisemitic outburst” in a new Vulture interview.
“He was very charming personally, and he’s intelligent and self-deprecating. He’s said and done some things that are unconscionable and unforgivable,” Isaacs said of Gibson. “I was invited by my friend to some charity cricket event for Australians in film. And he said, ‘If you come, Mel will.’ And I said, ‘I don’t want to see Mel.’ I hadn’t seen him since that terrible antisemitic outburst when he got stopped by the police. Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx teamed up for an underrated action film in 2013, and it is now streaming for free for everyone to see. Disaster film master Roland Emmerich made a smaller-scale action movie called White House Down. While it underperformed at the box office when released, it is available for everyone to rediscover 12 years later.
White House Downstars Channing Tatum as John Cale, a Capitol police officer who takes his daughter on a White House tour when mercenaries attack the building. Jamie Foxx stars as James Sawyer, the President of the United States, and the man the mercenaries are targeting. The film also has an impressive cast, with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, Joey King, and James Woods rounding out the lineup.

Brent Spiner is one of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s best performers. Playing Data, Spiner had the tough task of emoting without expressions as he was an android. Though it was difficult, Spiner pulled it off for seven seasons and four movies, while also pulling double duty as Data’s evil twin Lore and several other recurring characters.
Though Spiner shone in many episodes where the writing did not do complete justice to him, sometimes even he could not save the day. One of these times was during what is considered to be Star Trek: Tng’s worst episode, ‘Masks’. The season 7 episode sees Spiner go crazy with his acting skills, but the writing is just ridiculous.

In just 20 days of release, Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake is set to become one of the 100 highest-grossing blockbusters in global box office history. This weekend, the movie should comfortably pass the $850 million mark at the worldwide box office, with an outside chance of hitting the $900 million mark. Lilo & Stitch is set to become the year's first Hollywood movie to break past the coveted $1 billion mark, an achievement that has eluded Disney since last year's Moana 2. The film's running global haul now stands at $807 million, making it the second-biggest Hollywood hit of the year, behind A Minecraft Movie.
In passing the $800 million milestone, Lilo & Stitch overtook a host of past blockbusters, such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and the original Deadpool. Released in 2016, the clutter-breaking superhero movie made over $780 million worldwide against a reported budget of $50 million. It...

If I say the name Joey Tribbiani today, everybody on Earth who was born before 2000 and owned a television immediately pictures Matt LeBlanc with his mischievous smile and jet-black hair, uttering some nonsense line or asking a beautiful girl how she's doing. And that's exactly how it should be. In retrospect, the NBC sitcom's casting was pitch-perfect, and one of the reasons "Friends" turned into the pop culture phenomenon it's been regarded as for decades. But even back in the '90s, before the show kicked off, up-and-coming actors knew the main roles in this series were golden opportunities to stand out and boost their careers — even if they hadn't suspected the monumental global impact the program would have on the comedy genre and broadcast television itself.
So, every aspiring young actor in Hollywood who heard about the sitcom back then was trying to land a part in it. Among...

While Channing Tatum is best loved for the Magic Mike franchise, Step Up, and his comedy roles, he also has a slew of action roles. Among them is his collaboration with Roland Emmerich, White House Down, which sees him as a US Capitol Police officer, who is in a life and death situation. The exciting feature is now available to stream for free.
Tubi has added the movie starring Tatum to its roster this month. The movie follows Tatum as a divorced police officer, who has been denied his dream job of protecting the US President as a member of the Secret Service. Not wanting to disappoint his daughter, Cale takes her on a tour of the White House. While the two are there, a heavily armed paramilitary group attacks and seizes control. Now it's up to Cale to save his daughter and the president.

Roland Emmerich is cinema's finest chaos goblin working today. His loudest detractors have accused him of being all spectacle and no substance, but I don't see anyone complaining on the Fourth of July when their fireworks displays don't have enough character development. Subtlety isn't Emmerich's strong suit, and I absolutely love him for it. Give me a spaceship with "F— the Moon" graffitied onto it in a movie called "Moonfall." Use the panic of the "2012" Mayan conspiracy theory to make a movie where a guy literally throws his annoying child to safety in a sacrificial effort. And yes, give me President Bill Pullman delivering an "Independence Day" speech so invigorating, so powerful, it brings about world peace. Emmerich is as much a filmmaker as he is the host of a cinematic demolition derby with a multi-million dollar VFX budget. That is to say, he is an artist of the highest order,...

By the time "Stargate Sg-1" was cancelled by the Sci-Fi channel in 2007, "Bones" had been on the air for two years. That show's creator, Hart Hanson, had worked on "Sg-1" back when it was first getting started and it seems he took several lessons from his time on the cult classic sci-fi series.
After Roland Emmerich's "Stargate" became a box office hit in 1994, "Sg-1" was created to continue the story of the titular crew, and Hanson penned one episode for the first season back in 1997, before departing the show altogether. As the series drew to a close, Hanson was overseeing a much different show in "Bones," which began airing in 2005. The offbeat procedural paired the intellectual, socially awkward Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) with the fully grown jock that was FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). Ever since we first learn about dinosaurs as kids, the idea of monsters is fascinating. More powerful and fantastical than regular animals, they inhabit the closet space of our minds and dark corners of imagination. It's a bummer to grow up and realize that creatures like Bigfoot and Nessie probably don't exist, but it's a blast to see movies in which the only limits to the large, dangerous things we can see are the filmmakers' creativity.
"Monster" has many definitions, but for the purposes of this list, they are creatures that do not and have not existed in real life (so far as we know), with a feral or savage side. Horror villains that are basically intelligent, leveled-up humans don't count, but devolved humans like werewolves are fair game. Normal human beings who simply look or act frightening belong on a list of villains instead. Ironically, this rules out most of the Universal "monsters,...

After Roland Emmerich's "Stargate" proved a solid hit back in 1994, a TV series was created to continue the intergalactic adventures. Rather than leave fans hanging with a single movie, "Stargate Sg-1" picked up with the story of the titular crew as they traveled the universe via the Stargate portal, encountering new alien lifeforms and worlds along the way.
Unfortunately, when the series wrapped up, there was nothing to continue the story in the way that "Sg-1" had picked up where the film left off. "Stargate Sg-1" was canceled by the Sci-Fi channel (now SyFy) after 10 seasons back in 2007, and while there was the spin-off show "Stargate Atlantis," and two further spin-offs that arrived in the years that followed, the "Sg-1" story was very much finished.
Ever since, we've heard much about what could have been, including a canceled "Stargate" movie that would have brought the events of all the shows together.

A remake of the 1966 science fiction adventure film Fantastic Voyage has been making its way through development hell for decades now, and for most of that time it has had James Cameron attached as a producer. At one time, Cameron was working with Roland Emmerich to develop the project, and at another time he had chosen Shawn Levy to direct the film. Along the way, David S. Goyer was hired to write the screenplay – and for one stretch of time, Goyer and Cameron were working with director Guillermo del Toro to get the new Fantastic Voyage into production. The project has never gotten that far, though. Cameron was talking about the project as recently as last year, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Now, Goyer has said that he would like to get it back on track with del Toro back at the helm.

Stargate is heading to Prime Video. The 1994 sci-fi movie from Independence Day director Roland Emmerich will be added to the streaming platform at the start of June.
Beginning June 1, Prime Video subscribers will be able to stream Stargate. While perhaps best known today as a television franchise, Stargate began life on the big screen with the eponymous 1994 sci-fi action film starring Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O'Neil, who leads a team through the Stargate — an ancient ring-shaped device that creates a wormhole allowing for travel to a similar device elsewhere in the universe — to the planet of Abydos, where they find a society of ancient Egyptian-speaking humans ruled by a space-faring alien posing as the ancient Egyptian sun god Ra. Memorial Day weekend has always been prime time at the movies. It marks the start of summer in the U.S., and for studios, it’s one of the juiciest slots on the release calendar. Everyone’s either grilling in their backyard or catching a movie in an air-conditioned theatre — there’s no in-between. Over the years, this long weekend has hosted some of the biggest blockbusters Hollywood has to offer. And with the 2025 edition setting a new record, it’s safe to say that Memorial Day weekend is more than just a holiday — it’s a full-blown cinematic battleground.

It’s shocking that it took over forty years for an American Godzilla movie to be produced… but when one arrived, many were left wishing it had taken longer. The movie didn’t even deliver the Godzilla we were familiar with. The iconic monster was completely re-designed – and not for the better. So the film immediately earned a bad reputation. And now, we’re going to dig into What Happened to Godzilla ‘98.
American distributors bought the rights to show kaiju movies made by Japan’s Toho Studios in the States and Hanna-Barbera made a Godzilla cartoon, but studios took their time deciding to make their own live-action Godzilla movie. Hollywood had their first chance in 1983. Toho gave director Steve Miner, fresh off of making two Friday the 13th sequels, permission to shop around his own Godzilla project. It was to be a 3-D movie set in the San Francisco area during the Cold War.

Popular comic actor Hank Azariapaid tribute 1998's Godzilla on the anniversary of its release, but his tribute was anything but flattering. Azaria is perhaps best known for voicing dozens of characters on the long-running animated series, The Simpsons, but he is no stranger to live-action roles too. The multi-award-winner specializes in over-the-top characters, and he usually gives them a memorable voice that becomes an iconic part of the performance. Though he is best known for his TV parts, Azaria has also appeared in more than a few blockbuster films.
