David Duchovny is synonymous with FBI Agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files. The supernatural thriller series put him and actress Gillian Anderson on the map, and made conspiracies great again. However, the role was not the only agent part played by Duchovny as he played Denise Bryson, the DEA agent in Twin Peaks.
David Lynch’s Twin Peaks is hardly the usual procedural, but Duchovny has never been a part of such stuff. He played the role of a trans DEA agent who helps Kyle MacLachlan’s Dale Cooper in season 2. The part was originally supposed to be played by James Spader, who reportedly created the character as well.

“We are all Icelanders!”
So proclaimed Jerry (David Patrick Kelly) in the “Cooper’s Dream” episode of the original “Twin Peaks” back in 1990. Like much in writer/director David Lynch’s life and art, it was both exaggeration and truth.
Exhibit A: At Reykjavik’s vibrant Stockfish Film Festival on April 10, a panel titled “David Lynch and Surrealism in Film and Shorts” celebrated the work and worldview of the late auteur, who died January 16 at age 78. The nonprofit Stockfish fest focused its dynamic 11th edition on filmmaking issues relevant to the always-cool city at the top of the world, Reykjavik, as well as highlights of global cinema, and, in a centerpiece of the 10-day festival, a Lynch-a-thon that brought out Icelandic cineastes.
The celebration at Reykjavik’s cozy arthouse theater BioParadis — translated from Icelandic as “Cinema Paradise” — was, to use a phrase the “Mulholland Drive” director loved, a gas.

Drug addiction is a serious problem. Not just in America, but everywhere else too as the large part of the population it is affecting right now is young and brimming with unsurmountable potential. It is depressing to see how opioid addiction has become so rampant that we have declared it an epidemic. Director Spencer Folmar’s “Shooting Heroin” comes from a very worried and somehow personal point of view. However, it is a film so confused between being a story that throws you into a whirlwind of emotional turmoil and a faith-based melodrama that all it manages to become is a brooding, self-serious addiction thriller that is easily forgettable.

The Batman villain Harley Quinn made her debut on the "Batman: The Animated Series" episodes "Joker's Favor", where she was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. The character was envisioned as a clown-like moll for the Joker, and was given a ditzy personality and a broad Noo Yawk accent. She proved to be so popular that she was eventually incorporated into Batman comic books, and soon grew to have titles of her own. Over the years, Harley Quinn has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, most recently played in live-action by Lady Gaga in "Joker: Folie à Deux."
Fun trivia: Harley Quinn was actually preceded by a very, very similar character called Prank (Corinne Bohrer), a clown-like moll to a very Joker-like villain named the Trickster (Mark Hamill) on a 1991 episode of "The Flash." Whether or not the makers of "Batman: The Animated Series" were aware of Prank is a matter of speculation.

There have been a few cult classic TV series with the continuous allure of Twin Peaks. The 1990 series was co-created by filmmaker David Lynch and writer Mark Frost and chronicled the mysterious goings-on of a small Pacific Northwest town of the same name after high-schooler Laura Palmer's (Sheryl Lee) untimely demise. The surreal atmosphere of the setting and story is only as good as the eclectic cast that helps bring it to life, though - some of whom can also be easily recognized in other popular TV shows. Kyle Maclachlan, for instance, plays Agent Dale Cooper and can also be seen in Desperate Housewives, Portlandia, and, more recently, Fallout. Then there's Mädchen Amick, who portrays waitress Shelly Johnson and also appears in the largely Twin Peaks-inspired Riverdale as Alice Cooper. But perhaps the most fascinating of them all is Sherilyn Fenn, who not only appears in series such as...

When it debuted in the spring of 1990, David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks was inarguably the strangest show to have ever been made for American television. It was, simultaneously, a gothic horror story, a murder mystery, a supernatural thriller, a throwback to 1950s soap operas and movie melodramas, and a goofy comedy. Its stories intermingled human-scale nightmares like sex trafficking, drug addiction, domestic abuse, and incestuous rape with demonic possession, psychic visions, and periodic trips to another dimension where a dwarf hung out in a very red room.

Exclusive: David Lynch had a great knack for discovering leading-lady talent, actresses who would ascend to bigger heights. One of those is Lara Flynn Boyle, who played the role of Donna Hayward in Lynch’s early 1990s ABC series Twin Peaks.
“There goes the true Willy Wonka of filmmaking,” the actress said in a statement to Deadline on Thursday following Lynch’s death at age 78. “I feel like I got the golden ticket getting a chance to work with him. He will be greatly missed.”
The arrival of Boyle was declared in an October 1990 Rolling Stone cover she shared with fellow Twin Peaks actress Sherilynn Fenn and Mädchen Amick that heralded “The Women of Twin Peaks.”

Thanks to his performance as Johnny Lawrence in "The Karate Kid," William "Billy" Zabka's appearance exemplifies the archetype of all 1980s movie bullies. Suppose you close your eyes and think of the type of guy who would pester the charming underdog of an '80s teen movie. In that case, he's probably a tall, beefy blonde whose parents definitely had a photo of Ronald Reagan hanging above the TV in their living room. It's not Zabka's fault that he became the blueprint for this character type, but when looking at the landscape of high school movies from the decade, it certainly seems like every casting director was looking for "a Billy Zabka type." In some instances, that meant straight-up hiring him.
Zabka's follow-up to his breakout role in "The Karate Kid" is an oft-forgotten teen comedy directed by Lisa Gottlieb called "Just One of the Guys." A loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night,...

Being the child of an iconic artist like David Lynch comes with a lot of pressure, especially if you plan on making movies. Jennifer Lynch's Golden Raspberry-winning erotic thriller Boxing Helena bombed hard at the box office and took a beating from critics who couldn't stomach its outrageous story about a rogue surgeon who removes a woman's limbs. The young director went dark for 15 years after this distressing experience — but she returned with the stunningly original Surveillance, a must-see for fans of mind-bending horror.
Besides having big shoes to fill, Jennifer Lynch was just 19 years old when she began production on the movie that would thrust her into the public eye. Boxing Helena was a big swing in every way, and whether or not she deserved her Razzie for Worst Director, it remains a fascinating example of extreme cinema that could only come from a truly daring filmmaker. 15 years...

A year after Shining Vale was canceled by Starz and removed from the streamer’s library, the existing two seasons of the series, starring Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear, are available for streaming again, this time on Max.
The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer picked up the two seasons of horror comedy, produced by sibling Warner Bros. Television which at the time of the December 2023 cancellation tried to find a new home for it.
Season 1 of Shining Vale, from creators Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, followed Pat (Cox) and Terry Phelps (Kinnear), a married couple who cash in their life savings and move from a cramped Brooklyn apartment to an old Victorian mansion in Connecticut, as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. Doors slam, the piano plays by itself and when an old-fashioned-looking woman appears to hover outside the family window, Pat believes that she is going crazy — or worse.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 included one scene as a homage to director David Lynch, who directed the 1984 version of the film. Lynch’s Dune was an underwhelming film in many aspects and even the legendary director tried to distance himself from the film. When Villeneuve made the Dune remake, Lynch vowed that he would never see it because it was still a sore spot for him.

A one armed man selling shoes, a lady with a log obsession, evil spirits called Bob who feed on pain and suffering, dwarves speaking backwards, a ton of doughnuts, plus a murder mystery with a killer reveal. It can only be one crazy series, can’t it? That’s right my fellow wonderful gore-hounds, we’re taking a psychedelic trip to the fictional Washington town of Twin Peaks. The original show ran from 1990 to 1991 and followed an investigation by FBI agent Dale Cooper, played to perfection by Kyle MacLachlan, into the murder of Sheryl Lee’s homecoming queen, Laura Palmer. The series didn’t end there though, no siree, writer / director David Lynch had grander plans for the residents of Twin Peaks.

I’m trying to decrease my usage of “good” and “bad” when discussing art. They are lazy shortcuts that distill creativity into the simplest qualitative assessments as if art is worth boiling down to a pure binary outlook. It’s why whenever any movie is widely labeled “good,” I can’t help but approach it with some increased skepticism. Conversely, “bad” movies always pique my interest, and I’m more likely to look deeper for their successful elements than what I find from the consensus.

A documentary series about Elizabeth Taylor is in the works at the BBC, with Kim Kardashian among the producers.
Elizabeth Taylor is undoubtedly one of the most iconic film stars of her era. By the mid 1960s, she was the highest paid film star in the world.
There have been copious books written and films made about the star too – Taylor has been portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter, Lindsay Lohan, Sherilyn Fenn and Louella Parsons among others; a biopic called A Special Relationship starring Rachel Weisz and written by Simon Beaufoy was announced in 2019, but there has been no news since then.
Now though, the BBC has commissioned a three part documentary, Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar, which will be executive produced by Kim Kardashian, Kari Lia and Hamish Fergusson.

The horror comedy series Shining Vale premiered on Starz back in March of 2022, then the second season reached the airwaves this past October. Unfortunately, there won’t be a season 3, as Variety reports that the show has been cancelled for the most common reason a show gets cancelled: it “did not find a large enough audience to continue.” But Starz is going further than just cancelling this show, as they’re also going to be scrubbing it from their archives. “Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the Starz streaming service at the end of the year.“
Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the first season of Shining Vale followed a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town into a house in which terrible atrocities have taken place. But no one seems to notice except for Patricia “Pat” Phelps,...

Starz has canceled Shining Vale after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed. Sources close to production revealed that the Courteney Cox- and Greg Kinnear-led series “did not find a large enough audience” to continue.
Both seasons also are set to be removed from the streamer’s library.
Sources said producer Warner. Bros. TV tried to sell the series elsewhere but did not succeed.
Season 1 of the series from creators Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan followed Pat (Cox) and Terry Phelps (Kinnear), a married couple who cash in their life savings and move from a cramped Brooklyn apartment to an old Victorian mansion in Connecticut, as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage after Pat’s torrid affair with the handyman. Their kids Gaynor and Jake are pissed, and as disconnected as teenagers can get. Pat is losing her grip on them, and Terry doesn’t see that Pat might...

After just two seasons, the Courteney Cox-starring horror series “Shining Vale” has been given the axe by Starz, and that’s not even the worst news about the show this afternoon.
Variety reports, “The Season 2 finale of the horror comedy, produced by Warner Bros. TV, aired on December 1. Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the streaming service at the end of the year.”
“Shining Vale” Season 2 premiered on the Starz streaming service on October 13, 2023, and Variety notes that the show didn’t find enough of an audience to justify a third season.
The bigger issue here, however, is the news that both seasons of “Shining Vale” will be removed from the Starz streaming service. The series has to date not received a single physical media release, so this could be another case of a streaming project being...

Twin Peaks, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, is one of the most iconic and influential shows in TV history. Originally airing from 1990 to 1991, it was abruptly canceled after its second season; years later, Lynch went on to make one of the most acclaimed movies of the 21st century, Mulholland Drive. Like Twin Peaks, the film was a mystery brimming with Lynch’s signature surrealism, but something fans might not know is that the connection between the two works goes even deeper. As Frost shared in the book Conversations With Mark Frost (per IndieWire), the neo-noir classic was originally conceived during the 1990s as a Twin Peaks spinoff show centered on fan favorite Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn), whose storyline was left on a cliffhanger at the end of Season 2. In fact, the entire finale provided more questions than explanations about many of the show’s plot lines that weren...

J.R. was waiting in line with maybe 200 fellow fans to spend a moment getting the autograph of – and perhaps taking a selfie with – Christina Ricci, the actress who made her debut in the “Addams Family” movies in the 1990s who is now an Emmy-nominated star on the Showtime series “Yellowjackets” as well as a regular on Netflix’s “Wednesday.” The setting on Saturday was the Hollywood Autograph Show at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, a three-times-a-year movie and memorabilia event where fans can come to lay eyes on some old-time celebrity favorites, get their name in ink, pose for a selfie and maybe pick up a book or vintage photograph.
Eighty or so celebrities staked out tables to sign their name and pix for a fee. J.R. was one of those who got hooked on attending these shows a few years back and now never misses one.

Everyone loves fun car films. With Fast X spawning a spin-off and sequel and Gran Tusimo (out on VOD Tuesday) doing decent business at the box office, the genre isn’t going anywhere. We thought now would be a good time to check out some less-known (or underrated) entries into the genre.
Taxi
We’re going to cheat right off the start by counting this whole series and one entry on this list. The films here are action-comedy classics for fans of French movies and those who love a good car stunt. The first established the characters, but the second is possibly the best of the bunch. Only die-hard fans will want to bother from the third to the fourth to the fifth. However, those first two are worth seeking out what the French do with a modified Peugeot 406, the vacation town of Nice, and a cast that most will recognize from other movies.
