Mark and Gemma Scout, or Mark S. and Helly R.? “Severance” star Britt Lower stans an entirely different relationship.
“I’m secretly rooting for Gemma and Helly, but that’s a whole other thing,” she quips.
“Severance” Season 2 ended on quite a cliffhanger, as innie Mark S. (Adam Scott) decides to stay on the severed floor with Helly R. Apple TV+ is now a significant player in the streaming industry and has successfully competed against established legacy studios like Disney and Warner Bros. Its success can be attributed to its backing of original content across a wide range of genres. From sci-fi dramas like Severance to heartfelt comedies like Ted Lasso and sprawling epic galactic sagas like Foundation, the streamer has dipped its toes in it all.
Since 2019, Apple TV+’s original library has only grown, and that’s great for the subscribers who want to watch gripping new and original shows. However, that’s not so great for us as we have to curate the top 50 amazing Apple TV+ original shows based on audience reception, critical acclaim, originality, and storytelling quality. But it’s an interesting task to undertake.

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed dystopian sci-fi thriller, Severance, finally returned with new episodes early in 2025 after a three-year hiatus. Season 2 of the series, which follows a group of employees at the mysterious Lumon Industries, garnered 27 Emmy nominations, including Britt Lower for her performance as Helly R./Helena Eagan.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter,Lower opened up about how she felt when she first learned she was cast in Severance, which currently boasts a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. The first season debuted on Apple TV+ in 2022, and prior to that, Lower had appeared as a guest star in shows like American Horror Stories, High Maintenance, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and starred in the Fxx series Man Seeking Woman.
Securing the role of Helly in Severance was a big deal for Lower, who said she fell to her knees when she got the news she’d been cast.

One week removed from the 2025 Emmy nominations and there are some clear trends emerging in the Gold Derby predictions. Among the marquee races, for example, Adolescence is the runaway favorite for Best Limited Series, The Studio has opened up a lead over Hacks for Best Comedy Series, and there's a substantial gap between front-runner Severance and The Pitt in Best Drama Series.
However, when it comes to that last category, a closer dive into the data shows a striking chasm between overall voters and the Gold Derby experts, which includes film critics, journalists, and historians. And it doesn't bode well for the Lumon industrial complex.
Although we're still in early days, and we still don't have a critical mass of inputs, Severance comfortably leads the combined-predictions race with 67 percent to The Pitt's 23 percent.

Last year, HBO's The Gilded Age made a major breakthrough at the Emmys by scoring six nominations, including Best Drama Series, for its second season. The third season is currently airing and won't be eligible until next year's Emmys. However, its presence could still be helpful for star Carrie Coon as she contends for her supporting role in another prestige HBO drama, The White Lotus.
This marks Coon's third Emmy nomination, after Fargo in 2017 and The Gilded Age in 2024. On the third season of Mike White's anthology series, Coon plays Laurie Duffy, a recently divorced corporate lawyer from New York City, who, along with her two longtime friends (Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monaghan), reunite on a girls' trip to Thailand.
Based on the early predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actress, the third time will be the charm for Coon. And having a juicy, highly visible role in The Gilded Age will only help.

There's certainly a lot of impressive shows, actors, creatives, and more nominated at the 2025 Emmys this time around, and Netflix alone has gotten itself a good amount of attention with a number of its different programs. However when it comes to You season 5, which meets the eligibility period, there's one star who's disappointed by their snub. And we definitely agree!
Actress Anna Camp, who joined the psychological thriller's final season, took on the role of identical twins Raegan and Maddie Lockwood. The two are Katie's sisters, and became Joe Goldberg's sisters-in-law. Their stories were certainly complicated, and Camp does not have a twin in real life. She ended up playing both characters, and did so wonderfully!

Severancemay have closed out its second season in March, but it’s climbing the streaming charts in July. As of July 19, Severance has passed another Apple TV+ sci-fi series and is in the No. 6 spot in Apple TV+’s Top 10 in the U.S. per FlixPatrol. The sci-fi thriller is now one spot ahead of Murderbot, which premiered on the streamer earlier this summer.
Murderbot just wrapped up its first season on July 11 and stars Alexander Skarsgård as a rogue security robot who can’t help but be drawn to humans despite them being horrified by their emotions. The series is based on The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. It currently holds a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and was just renewed for a second season by Apple TV+.

It’s a “Severance” world. The Apple TV+ series dominated this year’s Emmy nominations with 27 nods, and despite the show’s critical and ratings acclaim, Variety‘s Awards Circuit podcast hosts were still taken aback.

The quartet also looked at some of the other big news from this week’s nods, including another Apple TV+ powerhouse, “The Studio,” which led all comedies with 23.

When it comes to predicting the Emmys, there is one group of bellwether categories worth paying close attention to. Over the past decade, a notable trend has emerged: the winners for Best Drama Series and Best Drama Casting have mirrored each other seven times; Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Casting eight times; and Best Limited Series and Best Limited/Movie Casting nine times. That's a combined accuracy rate of 80 percent over the most recent 10-year period.
With that in mind, our gaze is fixed on the three casting races for the 2025 Emmys, where The Pitt, The Studio, and Adolescence are already making compelling cases as the early front-runners.

Severance fans have been waiting for Season 3 with bated breath. The longer the wait, the more the excitement the show seems to be brewing. Being a fan of the show, even I cannot hold up to this wait. But here’s one thing you need to know. “I don’t believe that we have a production start date yet, but we’re moving in that direction.”
Following this comment, the delay sends us into a frenzy, making us wonder when the show will be back on screens with its psychological drama, thrillers, and humble laughs, changing the way you see 9 to 5 jobs.

Adam Sandler has appeared in a wide variety of comedy movies, but he has only done very few sequels. One of those, Happy Gilmore 2, is hitting Netflix this month. If the movie is well-received, it could lead to another Sandler classic getting a new sequel.
To promote the sequel, which comes out on July 25, director Kyle Newacheck spoke about Happy Gilmore 2 in a new interview with ComicBook.com. The filmmaker shared his opinion that there are several other Sandler films that could benefit from having a sequel made after Happy Gilmore 2. Newacheck cited Little Nicky as one in particular that is ripe for a sequel, given how much Sandler continues to do the character's unique voice.
As Newacheck said, “Here’s one that I think would be interesting now. Because [Sandler] was always doing the Little Nicky voice on set like so just hearing it, I was like, I...

The announcement of the 77th Emmy Award nominations had everything we've come to expect. Snubs! Surprises! A cavalcade of guest stars from The Studio!
But, as any awards obsessive knows, while the reveal of nods may be the end of one journey, it's the start of another.
We here at Gold Derby have been following plot threads throughout the FYC season, and now with nominations in hand, the storylines for the Emmy Awards this September are juicer than ever.
Praise Kier! Severance gets a raise
The first season of Apple TV+'s work horror series certainly made a splash among viewers and the Television Academy. The freshman run scored 14 nominations, but some rough timing with two strikes in 2023 delayed Season 2. The nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally out, and it’s shaping up to be one of the toughest races in recent years. According to DiscussingFilm, shows like The Bear, Severance, The White Lotus, and The Pitt are grabbing the most attention after scoring multiple nominations across major categories. In the drama world, it’s a huge year for HBO’s The White Lotus, which picked up nominations in almost every acting category. Big names like Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell are all in the supporting actor race thanks to the show. Even supporting actresses like Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell are on the list. With Mike White once again nominated for directing and writing, The White Lotus could easily win big.

The second season of Apple TV+ series Severance was nominated for a whopping 27 Emmy Awards on Tuesday. It is a tremendous total and the most of any show, but still not an all-time record for a drama series: Game of Thrones was nominated for 32 Emmys in 2019. You just can’t compete with dragons.
Specifically, Severance season two received nominations for — deep breath — best drama, writing, production design, casting, choreography, cinematography, directing (twice: Ben Stiller and Jessica Lee Gagné), picture editing (three times), title design, music composition, music supervision, lead actor (Adam Scott), lead actress (Britt Lower), supporting actor (three nominations: Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman and John Turturro), supporting actress (Patricia Arquette), guest actress (three nominations: Jane Alexander, Gwendoline Christie and Merritt Wever), sound editing, sound mixing, special effects and stunt performance. Emmy voters are still infected with The Last of Us, rewarding the zombified series with 16 nominations on Tuesday, including Best Drama Series. Notably, Season 2 of HBO's adaptation of the popular video-game series didn't get everything for which it submitted, and there are three notable snubs that are causing an uproar on social media: supporting actress Isabela Merced, and the standout episode "Through The Valley" in both directing and writing.
Here are the categories The Last of Us got into — and missed.
Best Drama Series: Nominated
It was never a question whether the fungal apocalypse drama would receive a series bid, since Season 1 scored 24 nominations and won eight trophies in 2023. The Last of Us ended up placing fourth in Gold Derby's Best Drama Series predictions by the time the nominations were announced. It finds itself nominated alongside Andor, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.

The time has come to dive into the list of 2025 Emmy Nominations, where, as luck would have it, some of the most nominated shows are from the science fiction and fantasy genres. What may be more surprising is that HBO has beaten Netflix for the most Emmy Nominations, with a total of 142, thanks to hit shows such as The White Lotus, The Penguin and The Last of Us. That's the most nominations the network has ever received.
Speaking of The Last of Us, it joins the ranks of most nominated shows alongside Severance (Apple TV+), Black Mirror (Netflix), Andor (Disney+), What We Do In The Shadows (FX), and The Boys (Prime Video). Severance, The Penguin, The Last of Us, Andor and Black Mirror are amongst the most-nominated shows.

Emmy voters indeed fell into The Pitt. The HBO Max hit received 13 Emmy nominations on Tuesday, including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actor for Noah Wyle.
Here are the categories the medical drama got into — and missed.
Best Drama Series: Nominated
The medical drama has been the breakout hit of the year since its January debut. It quickly shot up Gold Derby's Best Drama Series odds and was in second place by the time of nominations. It's nominated alongside Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.
Best Drama Actor: Nominated
Wyle was the last one called alphabetically, but he's been first in the odds since May, a month after Season 1 ended and about six weeks after his tour-de-force performance in the 13th episode. This is Wyle's sixth Emmy nomination and first in 26 years. He was nominated in Best Drama Supporting Actor from 1994-99 for ER.

Sorry, Squid Game fans — it's game over at the Emmys.
According to Gold Derby’s odds, Netflix's most popular show was never expected to match the 14 Emmy nominations it earned in 2022, but nobody predicted Season 2 would get completely shut out. Just three years ago, Squid Game was nominated for Best Drama Series and brought home six awards: Best Actor for Lee Jung-jae, Best Directing, Best Drama Guest Actress for Lee Yoo-mi, Best Production Design (“Kkanbu”), Best Stunt Performance (“Stick to the Team”), and Best Visual Effects (“VIPs”). Three years later, Squid Game's second season continued to captivate audiences, logging over 192 million views on Netflix — but totally flopped with Emmy voters.
Here are the categories the second missed.

It’s clear Emmy voters remain fans of the HBO drama, which saw another impressive showing in this year’s nominations. Eight of the show's stars received nominations as did creator Mike White.
Best Drama Series: Nominated
The HBO series, which swept 10 Emmys in its first season and picked up five more in Season 2, has once again been nominated for Best Drama Series. At the time of the nominations, it was ranked third on Gold Derby’s odds list, behind Severance and The Pitt. It will go up against Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance and Slow Horses.
Best Drama Supporting Actor: Nominated
The show had nine contenders in the supporting actor category, but only three earned nominations: Walton Goggins as Rick, Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff, and Sam Rockwell as Frank. These three consistently ranked among Gold Derby’s top five contenders, with Goggins leading the pack.

The innies and the outies will be partying at the Emmys.
Severance avoided the sophomore slump in a major way, riding its meme-tastic Season 2 to an Emmy-dominating 27 nominations on Tuesday, including a bid for Best Drama Series, and nine acting nods. Entering Emmy season as the show to beat, per the Gold Derby odds, the Apple TV+ series was widely expected not only to improve upon the 14 nominations it garnered in its first season but to challenge last year's nomination champ, Shōgun. In the end, Severance eclipsed the Japanese period drama by two nods and fell just short of Game of Thrones' all-time mark of 32.
Here's a look at every category where Severance scored — and everywhere it was snubbed.

Scott Speedman's intriguing new ABC crime drama continues to grow, with an I May Destroy You star joining the cast. ABC has had good fortune by blending crime and drama recently, evidenced by the success of High Potentialand Will Trent. It will be looking to continue that trend with Rj Decker, which will be led by Speedman.
Rj Decker is currently in the pilot stage. But if it gets picked up, Speedman will still be able to continue his role as Dr. Nick Marsh for Grey's Anatomy season 22. Still, the new project could see one of TV's most reliable love interests step into a long-term leading role.
Deadlinereports that I May Destroy You's Weruche Opia has joined the Rj Decker pilot. She'll play Shay Bennett, the shrewd and unpredictable daughter of a powerful and corrupt state senator who has ties to the titular Decker, played by Speedman. If the pilot is picked up,...

Apple TV+’s sci-fi shows like Foundation and Severance are famous for their unrelenting plot twists and complex characters. However, the comedies of the streamer are not something to sneer at as well, especially when they’re led by heavyweights like Ted Lasso. But not many want to invest in a multi-season long comedy. After all, sometimes a short and sweet season is all one needs to get a few laughs before moving on.
Thankfully, Apple TV+ is a treasure trove of one-season laughter buckets that deliver a satisfying and funny story in a few episodes. So, if you are looking to cleanse your palate after heavy dramas with a satire on fame or perhaps with quirky workplace shenanigans, then this is the right place.

Bad Monkey stars Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a demoted detective who becomes a restaurant inspector in Florida.

WWE is hands-down the biggest name in the wrestling world, and a lot of its magic comes from the intense rivalries fans can’t stop talking about. Most of the time, those feuds are carefully scripted to deliver drama inside the ring, but every now and then, things get a little too real. Emotions run high, tempers flare, and suddenly, a storyline beef turns into an actual backstage feud.
Since it’s a full-contact sport, it’s not surprising that some wrestlers have clashed for real. Maybe someone got a little too rough during a match, or maybe a tweet hit the wrong nerve. Whatever sparks it, when the bad blood gets personal, it usually makes the on-screen story way more explosive and unforgettable.
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of those legendary real-life rivalries, ones that blurred the line between fiction and reality and ended up creating pure gold for the fans.

Looks like Dance Mom will boogie all the way to the Emmy podium.
Julianne Nicholson, who played the joyous (and drug-addicted) character on Hacks Season 4, now leads the Best Comedy Guest Actress race, taking down longtime frontrunner Jamie Lee Curtis for The Bear, who won last year. Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.
There's a new Hacks tonight, but I have not yet recovered from Julianne Nicholson dancing to Katy Perry's "Lifetimes" as Dance Mom in last week's episode. pic.twitter.com/SH3OPittFI
