Doug Liman has been set to direct a feature version of Stephen King’s 1978 post-apocalyptic fantasy novel The Stand for Paramount Pictures.

Liman will produce with Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures and Paramount is believed to be fast-tracking development.

The epic King novel is about the aftermath of a pandemic of weaponised influenza that causes the surviving humans to divide into good and evil factions.

The novel has been filmed twice before, both times as a TV miniseries. A 1994 version for ABC starred Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald, and a 2021 version for then streamer CBS All Access featured James Marsden and Odessa Young.

A movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand is in the works. Originally published in 1978, the classic Stephen King book follows characters during and after the outbreak of a virus that kills 99.4% of the world's population, and the epic battle of good versus evil that ensues. After reimagining Road House, filmmaker Doug Liman is set to reboot the Stephen King story The Stand. The tale has already spawned two TV series adaptations in the past, but Liman will be making a big change with this version, as it would be a singular feature film.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Liman is attached to direct a feature film adaptation of The Stand for Paramount Pictures. Tyler Hompson of Cross Creek Pictures is also serving as a producer on the project. Currently, a screenwriter hasn't been named, but with the change in format, they may have their work cut out for them with this adaptation.

Largely thought to be one of King’s greatest accomplishments, “The Stand” takes place in the aftermath of a pandemic caused by a weaponized virus (dubbed Captain Trips), where the survivors are either swayed by the forces of good or those of evil, personified by Randall Flagg, who would go on to become a recurring figure in some of King’s other work, most notably the “Dark Tower” series of novels.

Filmmaker Doug Liman is attached to direct a feature film of the post-apocalyptic bestseller for Paramount Pictures, with Cross Creek Pictures’ Tyler Thompson on board to produce. The project does not yet have a script, however, so development may take some time as Liman and the studio winnow King’s novel — which runs 1,153 pages in its 1990 unabridged version — into a single movie. THR reports that Doug Liman is set to direct The Stand for Paramount Pictures. The novel, which is considered to be one of Stephen King’s best, deals with a deadly pandemic that kills nearly the entire population. The survivors are drawn to two opposing communities, one led by the kind, prophetic Mother Abagail and the other by the sinister, demonic Randall Flagg. This all leads to a final battle between good and evil. The search is now on for a writer to tackle the project. In addition to directing, Liman will also produce alongside Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures.

At 1,152 pages, The Stand is King’s longest book. While you might think that Paramount will be viewing this as something that will span multiple films, sources tell THR that “Liman and the studio have a particular take and that the feature would be a one-off, not a multi-movie endeavor.

The annual celebration honors United States veterans, servicemen and women and military families, uniting the country in remembrance and appreciation of those who gave their lives for the nation.

The television event includes musical performances, documentary footage and dramatic readings, as well as celebrities sharing real-life stories spanning the broad history of the nation’s military conflicts, musicians performing songs in tribute to the country’s true heroes and performers from the United States premier military choirs and ensembles.

Joe Mantegna is no longer hosting the 2025 National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday (May 25).

Two days after the announcement that the Tony-winning actor would be co-hosting with Gary Sinise in Washington D.C. as they’ve done for years, Capital Concerts announced that the 77-year-old Criminal Minds actor would not be hosting this year and that actor Esai Morales would be stepping in instead.

At the time, there was no reasoning given for the replacement, but now we know why.

On paper, the heist movie “Reindeer Games” should have been a slam-dunk. Apollo 13, NASA's third planned moon landing mission after Apollos 11 and 12, saw an extremely unlucky and nearly fatal problem become a triumphant display of human ingenuity. Pacific Palisades residents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have pledged to help their neighbors who were impacted by the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks and Wilson, who have been married since 1988, are donating $1 million toward LA fire relief across several aid organizations.

The Green Mile, a supernatural prison drama from 1999, is finding new life on the free streaming service Tubi. The Stephen King adaptation stars Tom Hanks in one of his genuinely underrated performances. The film currently sits at the third spot on Tubi's Top 10 list of the service's most-watched films.

Written and directed by Frank Darabont, The Green Mile follows a group of prison guards working at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row, or as everyone calls it, "The Green Mile." Led by Officer Paul Edgecomb (Hanks), the group receives John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a new inmate who has been sentenced to death for a horrible crime. Coffey doesn't behave like a murderer and claims that he's innocent. Edgecomb eventually realizes that the convict even possesses an extraordinary power to heal people. But we'll leave it at that for those who still haven't seen this classic, as we'd rather not spoil it for you.

Tom Hanks' beloved space drama Apollo 13 will arrive on Netflix this January, almost thirty years after its debut. Produced by Universal Pictures and Massive Entertainment, the film was commercially successful, grossing over $355 million against a $52 million budget.

Fans will get the chance to re-experience the glory of Apollo 13 when it hits Netflix on January 1. Directed by Ron Howard from William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert's screenplay, the 1995 docudrama film adapted astronaut Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger's 1994 book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13, dramatizing the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission. The movie follows Lovell and fellow astronauts Jack Swigert and Fred Haise aboard the ill-fated titular spacecraft for the United States' fifth crewed mission to the Moon. Gary Sinise is opening up about his decision to step away from Hollywood to care for his wife and late son during their cancer battles.

The CSI: NY actor recently told Fox News that he paused his acting career in 2019 and moved to Nashville in 2021 to be with his son, McCanna Anthony Sinise, who died in January from a rare spinal cancer called Chordoma, and his wife, Moira Harris, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We were in the cancer fight during that time,” Sinise said. “My wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer. My son was diagnosed with this very rare cancer within two months of each other. My dad had just had a stroke, and my mom was alone, and I had to take care of her. I kind of had my hands full.”

Blu-ray.com is reporting that Reindeer Games, the final theatrical film by John Frankenheimer, is getting a new 4K Blu-ray release from Kino Lorber. In an Insider video, retired NASA astronaut Nicole Stott watched and rated the realism of how outer space is portrayed in movies, including what went wrong with the mission's lunar module and how the crew returned to Earth in Apollo 13.
