This year’s horror slate has been nothing short of electrifying. Ryan Coogler set the tone with his acclaimed period film Sinners, followed by the hard-hitting psychological drama Bring Her Back, supernatural horror Final Destination: Bloodlines, and Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel 28 Years Later. Chris Columbus has helmed many enduring family blockbusters, including Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and two instalments of Harry Potter. You can probably see why that would make him a good fit to helm a movie revolving around Marvel's First Family.
The filmmaker was credited as an executive producer on 2005's Fantastic Four, but confirmed in a new interview that he "had nothing to do with it." Columbus intended to direct the Marvel Comics adaptation, but was fired after a meeting with studio executives.
"We were in a weird situation," Columbus said. "On the first 'Fantastic Four,' I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved.

Home Alone director Chris Columbus says he was fired from 2005’s Fantastic Four movie for criticising its concept art.
The 2005 incarnation of Fantastic Four – the one starring Chris Evans, Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd, among others – was directed by Tim Story. In another universe somewhere, it was directed by Home Alone's Chris Columbus, and released much earlier – he was initially attached to adapt the comic book in 1995. In the end, his incarnation never happened, however, though he did still receive an executive producer credit on the movie that emerged a decade later.

Chris Columbus, the director of Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, is credited as an executive producer on Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but he told the Fade to Black podcast that he “had nothing to do with it.” That wasn’t always the case, as Columbus was meant to produce the movies before 20th Century Fox fired him.
“We were in a weird situation,” Columbus said. “On the first Fantastic Four, I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas.

Chris Columbus has directed some of the most enduring blockbusters of all time, from “Mrs. Doubtfire” and the “Home Alone” films to the first two “Harry Potter” movies. But even with those movies under his belt, Columbus still found himself getting booted from 20th Century Fox’s original “Fantastic Four” movie. The director is credited as an executive producer on the movie “but had nothing to do with it,” he recently told the “Fade to Black” podcast.
“We were in a weird situation,” Columbus said. “On the first ‘Fantastic Four,’ I had worked on a script. There were a lot of writers involved. They were about to make a movie and I was producing it. I met with the director and had some ideas. Good things come to those who wait. Just ask J.K. Simmons, who finally scored his first Emmy nomination 40 years after his very first TV role as a bit player in the 1986 TV movie Popeye Doyle, starring Ed O'Neill as the New York cop made famous by Gene Hackman; 30 years after his breakout part as one of the jailbirds housed in the titular penitentiary of HBO's landmark prison drama Oz; and 10 years after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as a tough-as-nails drum instructor in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash.

When you think about the most anticipated movies of 2026, you have to know that Avengers: Doomsday is at the top of that list. The same can be said about Avengers: Secret Wars when it comes to 2027's most eagerly-awaited outings. The Marvel Studios double act are set to be two of the biggest films of the decade as the Marvel Cinematic Universe bids farewell to the Multiverse Saga.
It sounds like that won't be the only element of the MCU that the studio will be bidding adieu to as the two Avengers movies will likely follow in the footsteps of their predecessors (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) in bringing...

There are few places less glamorous than a laundromat. That constant hum of dryers, the flicker of fluorescent lights, the faint smell of detergent and despair. So naturally it feels strangely fitting that Woody Bess’s Portal to Hell should use such a setting as the launchpad for a horror-comedy about death, redemption, and the literal gateway to eternal damnation. It’s a film that manages to be both grim and goofy, playing its absurd premise with a straight face while quietly sneaking in questions about morality and mortality.

"Alright, let's do this one last time". Any Spider-Man fan can recognize these simple words in a heartbeat, which only goes to show how impactful a movie's opening can be. Peter B. Parker's narration about how he became the "one and only Spider-Man" is one for the history books, just like that first swing sequence in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, all eyes are on the wall-crawler's upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure to top things off and deliver excellence from the opening sequence all the way until the credits roll.

You can’t talk about Spider-Man without talking about his villains. Sure, Peter Parker is the friendly neighborhood do-gooder, but without psychos in armor, mad scientists with questionable safety protocols, and alien goo with abandonment issues, he’s basically just a bug-themed mall cop. And boy, have the movies given us a buffet of villains. Some legendary, some just okay, and some you only remember because you caught a “Worst Spider-Man Villains” compilation at 2 a.m.

Severancestar Tramell Tillman is stepping down from the severed floor, at least temporarily, to pursue a new role in Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The casting announcement has been met with celebration (maybe even a Music Dance Experience) from fans of the hit Apple TV+ series, as he is one of the show's fan-favorite characters. Those less familiar with the Lumon lot might recognize him from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, in which he starred in a memorable role as Captain Bledsoe opposite Tom Cruise.
As reported by Variety, Tillman has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in an undisclosed role. He is the latest...

We’re less than a year away from the return of Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and as filming gets underway in the wall-crawler's hometown of — checks notes — Glasgow, Scotland, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have begun to release a ton of information about the fourth entry in the series.
So here’s a rundown of everything out there about Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Brand New what?
Breaking with the naming convention of including the word "Home" in the title, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie takes its name from a divisive 2008 comic book storyline, which saw Peter's marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from the timeline — among other retcons.
But since the events of No Way Home already futzed with the memory of this universe's Mj, there's some of that title's DNA baked into the film's status quo from the jump.

Kirsten Dunst has thrown her hat into the ring: She wants a part in the eventual sequel to this year’s “A Minecraft Movie.”
The actress revealed as much in an interview published Wednesday with Town & Country. While discussing her upcoming projects, which include a film with “Anora” star Mikey Madison, “Triangle of Sadness” filmmaker Ruben Ostlund’s new film and a mystery project with longtime collaborator Sofia Coppola, Dunst said she also wants to star in the “Minecraft” sequel.
“Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?” the actress remarked, while also noting that her kids with “Fargo” Season 2 co-star and fellow actor Jesse Plemons loved the first “Minecraft” movie.
Dunst is no stranger to big-budget popcorn fare. She famously played Mary Jane Watson in all three of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” movies and has had lead roles in lighthearted comedy classics like “Bring It On.

Marvel Studios has a reputation in Hollywood. It's first and foremost a destination for hit movies run by Kevin Feige. It's also not a typical studio, with directors not necessarily running the ship and the movies often being retooled a lot along the way. Sam Raimi's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" went through significant reshoots before becoming a big hit. It's just part of the deal. Be that as it may, it's a part of the deal that "Black Widow" star Ray Winstone did not enjoy.
Speaking at the Sarajevo Film Festival, where he received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award (via Variety), Winstone had a lot to say about his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He played the villainous Dreykov in the 2021 blockbuster. At first, it was a good experience, as the actor explained he enjoyed working with director Cate Shortland on Scarlett Johansson's...

Kirsten Dunst is well known for teaming up with acclaimed directors, from Sofia Coppola to Lars von Trier (“Melancholia”), Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”), Alex Garland (“Civil War”) and upcoming turns in new films by Derek Cianfrance (“Roofman”) and Ruben Östlund (“The Entertainment System Is Down”). But sometimes, Dunst just wants to make money.
Speaking to Town & Country magazine for a new cover story, the Oscar nominee made the surprise revelation that she would happily star in “Minecraft 2.” Why? “Because her kids loved the first one and because she’d like to make a pile of cash,” the publication summarized, with Dunst adding herself: “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”

Could Xena: Warrior Princess be joining the reboot trend? It sounds like Sam Raimi and others are trying to make it happen!
Entertainment Weekly recently published an oral history of the show with Lawless, creator Sam Raimi and others taking part. Naturally, the idea of a reboot or sequel series came up with Lawless surprised it hasn’t happened yet.
“I gotta tell you, I don’t know why they haven’t been able to do it. What I keep hearing is you have to do it as well or better than the original, and they keep feeling like it’s not as good or better or totally different. It might need to be just totally different.”
Genre icon Bruce Campbell, who had a recurring role on the show as master thief Autolycus, added that “the themes are very relevant to today. Loyalty, friendship, complicated relationships. Xena said it’s...

Of the big two comic book companies, Marvel Comics is widely known as being lighter than DC. For better or worse, it has a reputation for brightly colored stories, quippy dialogue, and relatable, human characters who rarely struggle with more than they can carry. Want brooding dark knights, god-like superheroes, and violent, demi-god warriors? Go across the street.
Putting aside the debate that might surround the validity of this perception -- undoubtedly influenced by the generally all-ages content of the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- it certainly isn't comprehensive. Marvel can get seriously dark when it wants to, spilling as much blood, if not more so, than its competitors at any other comic book company. From crushed skulls and decapitations to ripped-out spines and stomach-eating sharks, we've found the most brutal deaths from across the Marvel Universe and ranked them, considering their narrative impact, violent thrills, and creativity, and, simply, how...

Any time a filmmaker takes over a popular horror franchise, there’s going to be apprehension from the fans. Most were certain that the Radio Silence team would do just fine in taking the reins of Scream, but that didn’t stop others from worrying about whether they could create the same thrilling magic as Wes Craven. All of us have that franchise that we hold close like a good friend. So, of course, we tend to get a little protective over how they’re treated.
Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead is one such franchise that has a legion of die-hard fans. I’m one who immediately fell in love with the slapstick-meets-demons world Raimi created. Who doesn’t love Bruce Campbell’s iconic portrayal as Ash Williams, or the filmmaker’s kinetic camerawork that has inspired every generation of directors since? It was a bit of a surprise, then,...

Stop motion. Full body make-ups. Puppets. Matte paintings. Miniatures. Opticals. These gloriously retro effects and more can be found in the regional B-movie jam, Tom Chaney’s Frostbiter: The Wrath of the Wendigo.
Shot over a handful of years in Michigan in the mid-to-late ’80s, Frostbiter is another DIY charmer that sees its lineage traced back to Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead. Whereas most of the prominent Evil Dead riffs largely reference and pay homage to the original film, Frostbiter takes its cues from Evil Dead 2 (the films even share an editor – Kaye Davis). It’s a zany, comedic little film that wears its influences on its sleeve and wants nothing more than to deliver a good time.
A good time, I’m happy to report, that it very much manages to deliver.

Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead (2013) reimagines Sam Raimi’s cult classic, pushing the gore to new extremes while rooting its horror in addiction, trauma, and the desperate fight for survival. Beneath the blood-soaked spectacle, the film is less about demonic possession than it is about the ways people battle their own inner demons—grief, guilt, and the aching need for redemption. The story centers on siblings David and Mia, who return to their family’s secluded cabin with friends Olivia, Natalie, and Eric.
Their goal is to help Mia quit heroin “cold turkey,” but the cabin harbors a curse far older and far more merciless than her addiction. When Eric recklessly recites passages from the Naturom Demonto, the so-called “Taker of Souls” is awakened, plunging the group into a nightmare where possession and withdrawal bleed together, transforming recovery into a descent through hell itself.

Firmly among the 100 highest-grossing movies in domestic box office history, director James Gunn's Superman has had a largely admirable theatrical run, which still hasn't quite ended. The movie will most likely pass the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office this weekend, even though it is now available to stream at home. Gunn said recently that the film's earlier-than-usual release on PVOD platforms was because the studio wanted audiences to watch it before the premiere of the second season of Peacemaker, and not for any other reason. That said, debuting a film at home only a month or so after its theatrical release must certainly eat into potential box office revenue.

Stephen King‘s name still carries a ton of weight in horror fandoms, and he knows it. The legendary author has been lending his endorsement to his favorite horror movies for years, and in many cases, like Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, it’s given the filmmakers involved a big boost.
Well, the summer’s biggest horror hit might not actually need any help from King, but you know the horror master wasn’t going to miss out on the film everyone is talking about. Yes, King saw it, too, and yes, he also loved it.

King had nothing but good things to say about the flick, calling it “confidently told” and “very scary.” It’s one of his most straightforward pieces of horror movie praise, and you have...

When your dog or cat is staring intently at seemingly nothing in the corner of your home, what if it was actually something supernatural that only they could see... and only they could protect you from? That's the intriguing (and chilling) question at the heart of Howl at the Dead, the new short film from visionary director Gregg Bishop, the filmmaker behind the unsettling SiREN, the eerily innovative The Other Side, and one of my favorite horror movies of all time, Dance of the Dead.
Following a successful run on the festival circuit, Howl at the Dead will be making its online premiere on August 26th, which is National Dog Day! Ahead of its streaming premiere, we have a look at the terrifying teaser trailer for Howl at the Dead that offers a glimpse into the supernatural short film that stars the talented canine Delilah Jane “DJ” Sassafras as Paws and Luke Speakman,...

Tobey Maguire is earning acclaim and strong press for his recent performances, and deservedly so. The characters he takes on are often hard to capture, complex, and sometimes unsettling. Pulling these roles off requires intense physical acting alongside his verbal delivery. Most agree he is a scene-stealer.
It’s wonderful that Maguire has been having a renaissance with this film and his recent appearance in Spider-Man No Way Home (2021), but anyone who enjoys movies knows Tobey has received this kind of praise for a long time. Since his first speaking role in This Boys Life (1993), he’s been captivating audiences with his charm and eloquence. It’s time to give him his full due. He’s shown incredible range throughout his rise and journey through fame—from playing desperate men in the military in The Great Gatsby, to voice acting in animated comedies like The Boss Baby (2017), to helping redefine...

With the spooky season right around the corner, it's time to start planning all the horror movie marathons you'll be having in the coming months. If you love the '80s and horror-comedies, then Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II is a must-watch every October. Now the 1987 sequel is getting a new figure from Sideshow Collectibles.
The latest sixth scale figure from Sideshow and Asmus Collectible Toys is Deadite Ash. The evil version of Bruce Campbell’s popular scream king, Ash Williams, comes with an alternate creepy head, multiple interchangeable hands, a severed hand giving the middle finger, an axe, and a bandaged stub hand accessory. This killer piece also comes with loose pages from the iconic demonic book, the Necronomicon, and a figure stand. Deadite Ash will be $210 Usd.
A Groovy Figure for a Horror King
When it comes to male performances in horror, there are none as iconic as Campbell's Ash William portrayal.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an undisputed triumph of long-term storytelling. The fact that franchise architects such as Kevin Feige have been able to tell interwoven serialized stories over the course of multiple films, television shows, and beyond, and have them still culminate in meaningful and affecting ways is remarkable. However, this approach has also very much not come without its pitfalls. For as awe-inspiring as the accomplishments of the MCU are when the franchise is viewed on a holistic level, many of those strengths directly correlate to frustrating or exhausting weaknesses within the individual films on a more individualized level. Perhaps no character is more indicative of this than Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
After years of being the sole cinematic property of Sony with films like Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in the 2000s and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man in the 2010s, the iconic web-slinger finally made his...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is well on its way to swinging into theaters, and Tom Holland has already started suiting up.
The last time we saw Spidey on the big screen, he was sharing it with his predecessors, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. That got me thinking: who is the best Spider-Man?
All of them… or none of them? They’re all awesome in their own way.
Today, we’re going to break down each actor’s portrayal of the web-head in their respective films, and explore how Spider-Man: No Way Home re-opened the book of possibilities for future Spider-Man crossovers.

When Ryan Reynolds Was Asked If PG-13 Deadpool Movies Were A Deal-Breaker For Him: “Gun To My Head…”
Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool(Photo Credit –Instagram)
The first time Ryan Reynolds appeared as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, was in 2009 in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which featured Hugh Jackman. It took eight years for the actor to reprise the Marvel character on screen in a full-fledged movie. Everyone loves Ryan’s characters and the movies. Hence, the anticipation for the third film, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ is through the roof.
For years, it was unknown whether Deadpool would return to the screen. However, in 2014, Ryan Reynolds leaked footage, followed by his personal contribution to the scripting and vision for the character, making sure we were entertained by those movies. Along with Ryan’s performance, these movies are loved for their humour, action-packed scenes, and edgy, bold, and unconventional way of story-telling.

No Marvel Comics superhero has starred in as many cartoon series as Spider-Man has. Indeed, long before Spider-Man was web-slinging on the silver screen, animated Spider-Men were mainstays of Marvel television.
Many voice actors have slipped on Spider-Man's mask over the years, with the cartoons running the gamut from simple low budget 2-D animation to fully realized 3-D CGI. The storytelling in "Spider-Man" cartoons has similarly varied from classical to experimental. Those in the latter category include 1999's "Spider-Man: Unlimited" (which features Peter Parker stranded on an alien world) and 2012's "Ultimate Spider-Man" (which turned Spidey into a fourth wall-breaking agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
There's been so many Spider-Man cartoons that some have even fallen through the cracks of history. For example, the 1981 "Spider-Man" cartoon remains mostly forgotten, completely overshadowed by a different series that debuted that same year: "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" (which...

Which Movie Did Will Smith Begin Filming Without A Finished Script?(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Back in 2012, Men in Black 3 kicked off production without a finished script, and somehow, it still turned out to be one of Will Smith’s biggest hits. Risky move? Absolutely. However, Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld believed the studio’s bold play had merit.
In fact, Sonnenfeld stood by the chaos, saying (via Newsweek), “Starting the movie without an absolutely finished script is not normally the right way to do movies. But I feel the decision Sony made was the right decision. On this one, we might still be waiting for the script. Sometimes, if you just dip your toe in, you’ll never dive in because it’s too stupidly cold.”
That icy plunge didn’t stop Men in Black 3 from pulling in a cool $624 million worldwide. Sure, it didn’t match the pop-culture explosion of the 1997 original,...
